Learning from Fast Freddie Spencer....thats a dream come true. One of the best thing i did as a youngster was to learn how to race at the local track. That experience save my life numerous times when riding on the street. How to react quickly, learn counter steering, apply brakes effectively and most importantly to know that if i want to ride fast the track is the safest place to ride. Theres no cars, no pedestrians, no curbs, no pot holes, no on coming traffic, no trees, etc... plus theres an emergency crew at the track just in case . If you want to ride fast the track is the way to go. Great vid again Doodle

Taking a course like this should actually be a mandatory for a license, even if you don’t want to be a canyon carver, trackday regular or racer. Let me explain, I had been riding Harleys for 20+ years before I ever put a leg over a sport bike. On impulse bought a sport bike, and went to a track school. The massive amount of mind blowing information and technique I got from that one day school completely rewrote my approach to riding! In my case, I ended up being a racer, but the bedrock riding skills I got from that initial training seriously can’t be overstated. It’s like buying a good helmet, the training from these kinds of classes are life savers!

From my own experience, what you likely learned: The machine is more capable than you realized it was. YOU are more capable than you thought you were. Result: You’re safer on the street, because you now know you can handle more situations than before. Plus, trackdays are a blast! I’ve had some training and trackdays, and am seriously considering Yamaha Champions, this fall. Thank you for sharing your experience with it.

Every rider should put in some track time. I had been riding for almost 20 years, had repeatedly studied and practiced the techniques in Twist of the Wrist One and Two. I thought I was way above average... and probably was, on the street. Then I got on a race track and instantly realized I didn't know crap. Felt like a total newbie. After my first 1/2 dozen or so track days I felt WAY better and more competent. After a dozen or so more, with some real good (and expensive) coaches, I was going fast enough I felt like shortcomings in my physical fitness were holding me back more so than my skills. Track riding is exhausting! Anyhow, I have a very high level of confidence in my ability to ride safely on the street these days.

In 40+ years of riding I’ve never actually done a track day so my children got me one for Phillip Island as a Christmas present. One reason was that they have seen more than enough of my races on video, TV channels and RU-vid. Phillip Island was my home racetrack however I stopped racing before they were born. My eldest is 15 so it also comes with added pressure even though I’ve lost count of the number of races and have literally done around 1000 laps of the Island. Can’t believe I’m actually more nervous now than gridding up in front of over 100,000 people trackside and full TV coverage. Lol

I went to Champ School this year in AZ and hands down it's the best experience ever! Your skills and understanding get upgraded 100x. You don't know riding until you do a two-up lap with a pro! I'm a 54 male, 220lbs and I was giggling the whole lap. I never knew how fast these bikes can go and how hard they can brake! I learned so much in such a short amount of time, they really have the training down. Champ School is world-class for sure. Highly recommend for every rider! 👍✌

You are an inspiration!!! I attended Kieth Code's California Super Bike School many MANY years (okay, decades) ago. Like you I was young and just wanted to learn as much as I could about riding. That, and I was in the sport bike crowd and was in the process of pouring all my money into building up an insanely fast KZ 1000. I had taken a good amount of safety classes because I was in the US Navy and they required it. But those pro's teaching me on the track was the most I learned and helped me correct some bad habits in such a short period of time that, to this day, I still use what I learned from that experience. One other thing....if you can find the time to read "Twist of the Wrist" by Kieth Code, I highly recommend it. I've read it SEVERAL times since the early 80's and I still have a copy on my bookshelf all these years later.

Freddie Spencer! THAT is a life-goal right there. That man is a hero. That era the riders were so skilled and so nuts. OMFG Doodle. Loved, loved this video. I was getting disheartened because it's been awhile since you posted. But honestly, none of the other channels I watch have been posting much either......Must be because of the holidays. The reason for loving this so much is a few reasons. First, I enrolled in Champ U a couple of weeks ago myself. LoL such a coincidence. Second, I literally spit out my coffee on the expectations vs reality portion of the vid. I've done 7 track days (becoming an addict) and I'm really close (I've dragged a toe) but not quite dragged a knee yet. Second, I'm so jelly that you actually got to take the road course with them. I'm know it's big bucks and it's awesome that you got to receive top notch instruction. I haven't had the opportunity to attend a Champions road course, but I have attend 3:16 track Superbike Camp training in Texas. Great bunch of guys, and let me tell you, they have some pretty fast female instructors when they have their track sessions over in Houston. Lastly, Everything you talked about is exactly what happens. Concentration, information overload, fatigue, apprehension. Eventually, if you continue the journey, you'll get much better. Already in the video, I could see how you slid your bottom from side to side based on the turn. I still have issues with that one, it seems to be something that I have to concentrate hard and be quick to get right. LoL. In the end, It's not about speed, it's about technique. Remember the adage "Be a technical rider, not an emotional rider." Eventually I'll get to do a track session at COTA and I've already gotten a bike for that Yamaha R7. Still, going to the track my Ninja 300 helped out immensely with expectations vs reality. I wanted to go oh so fast, but with 300cc's it takes a LONG stretch to get up to triple digits. This means that I have to focus on technique more to keep up with the big boys. Wait till you get to the oh crap moment where you have caught them and you are faster, but you have to PASS THEM cleanly. Overall I'm happy to see you back in the saddle. Even more happy to see videos on your MC riding journey, especially in deviating from just cruiser -more specifically Harley- riding. Don't get me wrong, I have an Indian Roadmaster as well, but that just doesn't get the adrenaline going like Track riding. Keep up the great work. J
