I think that the value is sentimental more than monetary. I didn’t want a class ring, but my mom really wanted to gift it to me. I continuously told her I didn’t need it, but she surprised me with it. She had designed the ring to both of our tastes. During all this, she was battling cancer, and unfortunately passed a couple months after. I appreciate her gift so much because it was the last thing she ever gave me, and I feel that I carry a part of her with me always.
Its 330 now. The dude at my high-school today trying to sell it seemed super shady not saying the price, just saying you cpuld make up to 12 payments for as low as 40 dollars. It seemed so scummy knowing a good majority of teens in that audience don't have a sense of money yet. He had a QR code on the site, and it was exactly in my 200-400 range I was thinking of.
I got a class ring because my father didn’t get a class ring and he severely regretted it. That is quite possibly the only time I’ve benefited off something that my father didn’t get. Everything else has been emotional trauma.
@@kayleigharnoldif you have any interested I would suggest going online and looking around. That was what I did and was able to get a nicer ring for cheaper than the company that had a contract with my school.
for anyone wondering : A class ring is an academic memento ring worn by American students or alumni to commemorate their high school, college or university graduation. For most of ... 6 answers Top answer: A class ring is a scam your school pulls, where they convince you that there’s some luck in the ring.
@@toffiet3347 It depends on what metal/stone/design you choose. Like two rings could have the exact same look but a ring made with white gold is gonna be more expensive than a ring made with sterling silver. From what I’ve seen, they can cost anywhere from $250 to around $4,000. Obviously they can cost less or more, but generally they fall anywhere within this range.
I cant imagine getting one from highschool unless you were from like a prestigious school. Funny enough school rings are a really good body identification if you're murderd
I really didn't care to get a class ring but my mom insisted, saying I'd appreciate it one day. I'm 35 and still waiting for the feelings of appreciation to begin haha
When I was a senior in high school, my mom took me to a jewelry store and let me pick out a ring to keep as my “class ring.” It was almost the same price as the rings from school and I still wear it all the time.
I did the same thing and am so happy I did. I wasn’t a fan of the traditional class rings and the ones I got are timeless and go with everything even 15+ years later!
I think class rings are so special for some people. Here’s why: My mom didn’t get a hs class ring bc yk she didn’t finish hs. So later on she went and got her GED (equivalent of a hs diploma) and then started college. By this time she was basically a single mom w two kids (my older siblings) and she put herself through college. When it came time to order her college class ring, she decided to get one bc it symbolized her doing something hardly anyone did in her family. She actually j told me the story of it yesterday and said that it took her a full year to pay it off bc she had two kids three jobs. It really j makes me appreciate my mom so much more bc she did so much for my older siblings and still got her education
I said the same thing in my comment. My dad never graduated high school. So when I was a senior he was so excited to watch me walk that he bought the ring. He keeps it with my diploma, cap and gown, every report card, cords, rewards and graduation pictures. The ring also came in a cute miniature cap.
I didn’t order one when I graduated, instead my grandparents surprised me with one at my open house. Much more subtle in size and it’s cute enough to wear regularly
They wanted $430 for my class ring. I told the lady that was selling them that the price was ridiculous and she had the nerve to say “if you got a job you could probably afford it”. Obviously, I told her to suck it.
I still have my class ring 22 years later and still wear it too. I was proud I accomplished high school and it reminds me of all the great memories I had made in those four years.
I wore a fake engagement ring when I bartended. Definitely cut down on how often guys hit on me, but the real sleazy ones still tried. Idk what people don't understand about customer service employees. It's part of our job to be nice to people, doesn't mean we like you or want any "attention " lol you know?
im so glad that i didnt order a class ring, i had a letterman jacket but that was given to me for free by my band director my first year and then my letter patch and pins were given to me the following years. every other club/organization had to buy their jackets and patches so they usually got it senior year but my director wanted us to have our jackets for as long as possible and i made so many memories with mine :) especially late night bus rides home when it would become my pillow lol
Hol up so yall just got Letterman's for free, like clean empty ones? That's sorta cool an empty jacket to wear out. I never practiced my trumpet, probably why I never got a top score for my solos. 😖 I like to think if I applied myself I could have been better; if I could have my senior year range as a freshman it would have been lit!
Our band also gave us ours a year early 😆 so I got to enjoy it all of junior and senior year. It's a really great winter jacket I can wear around the house sometimes 😊
idk i got my ring last year and it's in a style closer to an engagement ring than anything. it's white gold, has accent crystals, my birthstone and my school + class in tiny letters. i wear it daily
Wore mine through out college and still might pop it on now and again. It’s pretty, and also was really customized because we didn’t go through the school. Ordered mine online and had so many more options. Was the only one who got the school logo imprinted under the stone. Was a nicer metal and cheaper to boot.
Dam why I didn't think of that. I was actually really happy about graduating in general and opted to buy it, even if it wasn't a valuable resale. Nowadays it serves the same purpose as my dog tags, ID upon death.
The people we ordered from were through the school and everyone could still customize which ring they wanted, which obviously I did, I don't understand why all junior ring companies don't do this instead of having a limited style of rings
I have my great-grandfather’s class ring, and it’s always been too small to wear lol. But it’s definitely a very cool piece for me to own, especially as someone who loves vintage and antiques and is quite sentimental 😊
My senior year, a lady from the office came to my computer class to hand out flyers and explain some of the "cool stuff" we could get to commemorate our last year of high school. There were graduation jackets, class rings, personalized tassels for graduation caps, badges, pins, bracelets- all that good stuff. Our cass rings were 95 dollars. Like three people busted out laughing when she said that and some dude said "this dump isn't worth that", which only made people laugh MORE, and the lady got upset 😭 she left shortly after. Our teacher didn't say shit against us either despite how rude we were bc he knew we were right. Told us to save our money when the lady left
Bro they advertised them for us and they were all AT LEAST 300$, and they could easily become more if you wanted something other than a basic design and a basic metal. God forbid you want something that looks half decent; that's 400$+.
My mom graduated college in the 90s and she had a high-quality gold class ring with a black onyx. When my brother graduated, she wanted to see if she could sell it back to the company since it was the same one still to pay for his ring (he had picked out one that was pretty expensive) and they said they would owe her way too much money to do that. 🤣
Depends where you live. I was class of 2008 only 4 people have them. My old high school stopped 2 years after my class. My kid is testing out so no regular High school for him. Most people rather spend on college or a car.
I’m so glad my great grandma got one and kept it. When my grandma passed I was gifted my great grandmothers class ring. I only met her once, and I was a baby, so it’s so special to hold something from her. I’ve heard she was an incredible woman ❤️
I actually still wear my class ring sometimes because I picked out one that wasn’t giant and ugly lol it just looks like a nice ring, and has my favorite color stone too
In 2018 my senior classmates and I clapped the ring person off the stage at the assembly. We kept clapping after their introduction until they left the stage. They didn't get a penny out of any of us 😂😂😂😂
I still wear my class ring here and there. I got one of the smaller natural looking ones with a diamond since its my birth stone. I feel like the only ones that were a waste of time were the big flashy bulky ones because they cost so much and again were really flashy
Those class rings start to mean a thing when you hit 30s and 40s, and by the time you're going past your 40s, they are like gold. Little memories you can look back on and know they really happened, when you yourself are so far away from them.
I'm 44 and lol stupid then and still stupid. Kids spend money on stupid shit and the school gets a kickback. I was in school in the 90s and some of the rings were $300! For a piece of crap worth $30.
We got our class rings sophomore year, which I think gave us a lot more use out of it. I wore it almost every day of high school, as did my friends, and our school had us customize them with things that represented "us" at the time. A lot of us even got our signatures engraved on the inside of the band, which we thought was super neat at the time. I still have mine and am glad I have it to look back on, but it's definitely only worth something in sentimental value 😅
I still have mine! Its a silver double band with a purple heart stone and on one band it says Ashelyn Rose and on the other band it says class 2011. I love it!
my mom told me right away when she saw the whole paper thing in my hand that i wasn’t getting one. didn’t even ask or have time to say anything about it 💀
They're still a pretty big deal. I remember everyone in my class spending days designing theirs online and then spending a ton of money on them. It just seems really important when you're in school. And then school ends you're like "why did I bother paying for this?"
Back then I didn't want my school ring. Now, it is one of my most precious accessories. High school might have not been the happiest days of my life,, but I know I put in effort to make myself happy.
I was fortunate enough to have parents that were willing to buy me an actual ring instead of the usual class ring, I got it in the right colors but I figured I’d wear it a lot longer than I’d ever wear the actual class ring
A ring that you get your sophomore year you get to pick the gem the color like of the ring it has your activities you did in high school and the graduation year and your name and it’s special because you can wear it for your senior year or junior year
I’m not an expert I’m not even in high school yet but, In the United States, a class ring is a ring worn by students and alumni to commemorate their final academic year and/or graduation, mostly for a high school, college, or university.
I just ordered my class ring, it's very pretty and looks nothing like hers. The styles have really changed for women's class rings to where mine was thought to be an engagement ring. I have my birthstone in it and my class name around it. Very pretty, anyways. Class rings are what you order to wear for graduation like you order your cap and gown in the same place (you don't HAVE to order a class ring.)
Overpriced customized graduation rings lol, they’re still a thing as far as I’m aware. I graduated in 2020 and the Josten’s scammers came by to promote their $400 graduation rings
I’m going to have a job in high school, so I’m gonna have money for things like cheerleading, letterman jacket, class rings ,and robes, so that’s the whole reason I’m getting a job….
I would recommend you not to. Especially the rings. They are too expensive and not worth it and neither is the letterman, honestly. I would say save up your money for other things that are more worth it.
I just got my hs ring for 2024. I chose to get a simplistic $300 ring with my favorite color of gem. I did this so it won’t look like a “class” ring from afar but still look cute.
I love mine! It has my birth stone, but its more like an actual ring than one of those types of class rings. It was my favorite choice i found so glad i got one 🙏
I remember how my mom wanted to get me one as a gift for graduating college. I didn't avail of one with my classmates as I thought it was a waste of money, and wanted a puppy instead lol. It's something I keep now, and something to remember my mom by as well... We lost her last December 2022. Still miss her everyday, it's always a shock to my heart and body whenever I remember she's really gone.
Old high schoolers wear them as trend they 'bout $200 rings, some are over $400, it's trendy at that time, they're year, name, school something on them as you see in this short they look like that. But people still wear class rings nowadays, they have many pretty designs.
I'm glad the more recent rings are made like real rings. My class ring isn't dainty but you'd think it was a normal ring until you look close enough. It's got a smooth sapphire inside and its sterling silver. I actually had a coworker of mine think it was an engagement ring 😂
For me, I really wanted a class ring when the time came, even though I went to a small charter school and pretty much no one even knew we could get them. But I wanted one because my parents both had them, and had given them to me when I was a lot younger, so it meant a lot to me to have one to finish our family set in a way.
fr, my parents made me get one even though i told them i didn’t want one. like what part of “i’m never going to wear it, school sucked anyways, i don’t want a reminder” didn’t get through to them
We got hoodies each year the were so comfortable and whoever didn’t have money for it the school would give it to them and say ‘Shh it’s a gift for being well here’ it was adorable I still have all of them
My school had the option to have a necklace, shirt, or whatever else, it didn't have to be a ring. I chose a necklace because I knew I would wear that much more often than some bulky ring, and I still have it to this day
i added mine to my sun necklace bc i like the way it clinks against the sun pendant. personally i still don't think it was worth the money but my mom insisted. it's pink tho so that's nice
My grandmother handed down her class ring to my mom (they went to the same high school) who then handed it down to me…different high school but the garnet stone is my birthstone! It’s so classic and pretty and worn…love it!
We got actually classy ones, we were given the boxy looking options as well but ours didn’t even look like a class ring. I wear mine all the time just because it’s pretty and dainty.
I was so hyped for mine. Wanted one in college too but didn’t end up bothering. Still got mine tucked away too. I went for one of the smaller ones though.
I have my grandma's class rings still and it's one of my favorite pieces of jewelry. To anyone feeling like they wasted money you kid or grandkids may end up like me loving it.
The seniors had an assembly to showcase the class rings. I just liked that we had an assembly that day during math class. I was still not convinced to buy one.
my family’s getting me one even though to me i don’t care..but they have this little tradition of keeping everyone’s highschool rings so it’s kinda cool
I have a hs ring and I’ll occasionally slip it on. I love mine so much. It has my birth stone, my initials, the year I graduated and the name of the school I graduated from. It’s gorgeous
My grandma still wore her college ring. She was proud that she graduated in the University. Then years after my brother's birthday came up and ask my Grandma's ring as a momento of her.
I got a high school class ring. I even got a middle school class ring. I love them and I’m proud of them and thankful my parents put out the money to get them for me ❤
