Man, I agree. I’ve had a number of whiskies over the years and these just seem like the basic mainstream bottles that were picked. They’re not the greatest but they’re not supposed to be. But they’re also not the worst. For me, Lonehand and High West Campfire are two that have really stuck out to where they were so terrible that I couldn’t even finish the glass.
I agree, there we’re never meant to be great and are not advertised as exceptional. I would put most of these on decent list but definitely not the worst whiskey available.
Kolme Leijonaa (directly translates to Three Lions) is the worst Finnish labeled blended Scotch, that I have ever tasted. The taste is somewhere between brake cleaner and paint thinner. Using it to make a whisky & coke is a perfect way to ruin a good can of coke. Hankey Bannister blended Scotch is the close second with just slightly less paint thinner-ish taste. Bourbons are not my favorite type, but I still haven't had the displeasure to buy a bourbon, that I couldn't finish.
@@EiKk4__ Oh god yeah Kolme Leijonaa is abso-freaking-lutely turbo cursed to the max. I remember a friend bought it once and the only way we finished the bottle was to give it to the most drunk person at the end of the night in a few separate hangouts til it was finally done. :'D
Putting Devil's Cut, White Label, Basil Hayden's and Jack Daniel's on a list of "Worst whiskeys" is crazy. They might not be your favorite but I don't think you can justifiably call them bad. I remember I was at a bar one time and they had a really cool looking bottle way on the top of the end of the bar and I told my buddy "that must be the fancy stuff," and the bartender heard me and said it's not very good. I figured maybe he just wasn't a whiskey fan. He told us he'd do shots for $1 cause nobody bought the stuff. Needless to say we immediately bought a round. It was horrible. The first whiskey I've actively hated. Tasted like vinegar. I wish I could remember the name of it but it's been years.
Agree. I was expecting the $2.99 half pints in the fishbowl by the register. Things like Glen Stag, Town Branch, Canadian Mist, Black Velvet, Clan MacGregor, Bear Gulch, Irish Diamonds, Long Road and other turpentines. I'd drink McCormick or Mr. Boston first. They're actually drinkable.

In Australia Jim beam has a whole line of canned cocktails, one is a Devil’s Cut and Cola with 6.66% ABV. They really missed the chance to bottle the regular Devil’s Cut at 46.66%.
@@philipmoser3784Basil Hayden distillate comes off the still at a lower proof than OGD distillate too, and then it’s further proofed down before barreling. I see it as competing with Gentleman Jack.
Was really surprised you threw Bulleit up there for honorable mention. I think it's a really good all around bourbon that's great for an old fashioned and a solid sipper also.
It feels like a lot of these votes were cast by people who don't like high rye content whiskies. It was stupid to see Basil Hayden in the same group as that gross JD honey syrup.
Dickel Tabasco is good! I drink it neat when I eat Mexican food at the house. I'm an old soldier, we used to carry bottles of Tabasco to make our C-rations palatable. So I love Tabasco, always have it available at the house.
I’m not much of a whiskey guy, but do appreciate it. I love hot sauces. Tobasco being kind of a mainstay go to gotta have it around in case thing. I think I’d like this.
The problem isnt so much that commodity spirits are undrinkable, its that they are easy for a newbie to pick up and think that the spirit isnt for them. Especially if its 'supermarket premium'.
I find it funny. Those barrels that Tabasco uses go from Lynchburg, TN to Avery Island, LA, back to Tullahoma, TN. One town and county away from where Jack Daniel's emptied them. Tabasco Sauce is fermented for three years in used Jack Daniel's Whiskey barrels before bottling. I wonder if George Dickel paints over the Jack Daniel's logo when they arrive?
Recently bought a Willet Pot Still its pretty good i agree its young and a little harsh but they were on sale at 75 bucks at a local place and for that the bottle was worth it!
We did a tour of Dickel and our guide mentioned her husband loves the Tabasco whiskey. The only place he's able to find it anymore is at base exchanges because things tend to sit on the shelves there for a long time. I think she said the DOD is their #1 customer buying for PX's/BX's. Once they finished the Dickel in the Tabasco barrels they sent them back to Tabasco and they did a Dickel finished hot sauce.
"This does seem like an awful lot of bad decisions made it through an awful lot of decision points to bring this to Market." Killed me! Low key one of the funniest things I've ever heard on a RU-vid video. Keep up the great work, love the reviews & love the hunting vids. I do wish you would make highlights of your live streams, as I usually can't dedicate the time to watch them in their entirety.
I have the same Bottle of the George Dickel you guys have. Read the tag! Should probably say that it was aged 14 years! It's my favorite Whiskey in my collection. has a very oak taste. I work at a store in the same Market as Spillway Wine and Liquor. You guys came to my store a few months ago and bought some rum from us. Love the channel and hope too see you guys again!!!
Well i've been to Cascade Hollow (George Dickell) distillery and they admitted that the Tobasco whiskey is not a drinking whiskey, since nobody is going to drink it neat. They did recommend that it should be used for food or as a mixer in drinks. Like for oyster shooters, buffalo wing sauce, and chili.
@@robertjr1254that was my thought. I imagine it’d be alright if you like a lot of Tabasco in your Bloody Mary mix. Personally, I’m partial to horseradish as the dominant flavor and still probably wouldn’t care for it
You either like Dickel or you don't, there is definitely a uniqueness to it. Dickel 15 is one of my favorites, but I've been know to chew multivitamin tablets (not kid's vitamins either).
Basil Hayden in a hot glass was the first time I ever had bourbon and actually liked it. Eventually I landed on Woodford, but now I know I just don't like bourbon. Although, I hope they never stop making it because all my favorite whiskies are aged in old bourbon barrels (like single malt scotch)
I got a bottle of the Golden Apple Crown Royal for Christmas and just now opened it up. I put it over some glacier water ice and was very surprised. It's a 23 year old Crown Royal blended with the Golden Apple flavor. I was very surprised. I was thinking it was going to be some gimicky whiskey that was syripy and just good for a mixer. This is really good whisky with just a strong fruit note and just delicious. I couldn't be happier with it. Then I went on line and found the price. It was more expensive than I EVER imagined. The first place I found was over $250 and some even more, depending on what state you're in. I would like to see your take on it if you happen across some or have a desire to try a wacky choice for a video. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
The worst whiskeys I’ve ever tried are Screwball, Fireball, and Jack Daniel’s Apple. I know some people will get mad at me for saying that, but that’s my taste palette. Old No. 7 is good but I would drink it with coke instead of sipping it, because it’s almost like something is missing. And I was disappointed with Jim Beam, I always felt like that one is too dry and leaves a lot to be desired. I was also disappointed with, because of it being too dry, is Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack, it’s like what’s the point of going through 3 feet of charcoal mellowing after it’s been barrel aged.
Irish Mist Honey Liqueur is the best honey/whiskey mix that’s on the shelf near me. Much less of the “artificial” flavors like the JD variety. Definitely worth the purchase price. Over ice or chill the bottle
The only reason major distilleries use column stills is because there is no cleaning involved so no down time which equals higher volume output. Over the next few years a lot of the major distilleries are going to start going back to pot stills because it gets back to the roots of original whiskey. You are correct though smaller distilleries tend to almost scorch their liquor and they tend to want to use smaller barrels both equals bad product.
I love knob creek, but the knob creek maple is the worst thing I have ever had. I was just wrong when I bought it, thought it was a maple barrel or something like that, but no, it is just maple syrup with whiskey in it.
Basil Hayden is a good entry level bourbon, but once I tried others and expanded my palate I went back to the Basil Hayden and found it to be very bland. It was a very easy sipper.
Nothin wrong with good ol Jack. I enjoy #7 now more now than when i was young and mixed it or drank shots of it. It's easy sippin and pretty tasty. After having lots of expensive whiskey, i appreciate a solid affordable product.
@aaronbatt9528 I've never had any kirkland stuff. My state doesn't allow them to sell alcohol. Not sure about the Tennessee whiskey, but i think the Kirkland bourbon is made by barton 1792.
A few YT “experts” hate on Dickel for what they perceive as that vitamin taste so now everyone with an opinion wants to be one of the “cool kids” and hate on it too. I agree with Jill on this. It’s a very good pour and the 15 is excellent. Yes it’s got a different aftertaste to it but different and diverse are good things. It’s not off putting just different and adds to its uniqueness. The Dickel hate is ridiculous.
I just tried a bottle of Dickel Tennessee whiskey and was not a fan. I knew nothing about it, just thought it looked cool. It wasn't bad, just not worth the money.
@@aaronbatt9528 fair enough! Everybody’s taste is different. You thought it was just ok. But I guess the Hate for it is strange to me. I loved the 15. And it won a blind with 6 other buddies of mine against Buffalo Trace, Sweetins Cove, and Four Roses SB. All nice bourbons. But oh well😀🤷♂️
Great list BUT, I hated Basil Hayden, but now I like it as a starter, tastes different to the old label. It helps that it costs $38 now where I live (not $100😆) !
When it comes to {JIM & JACK} I am a huge fan of those being used in the SMOKING OF MEATS & ANYTHING BBQ/PITMASTER RELATED...... My favorite Marinade is the JACK DANIELS Baby Back Marinade & i use it for my steaks as well
The worst bottle of whiskey I ever had was a Willet Pot Still. I was excited to try it. I'd been eyeing that beautiful bottle for some time. It was so bad I thought something was wrong with it. I distinctly remember the tasing notes being rusty nails, dish liquid, and urine. I put it up and left it for weeks hoping it would change when I went back to it. Nope. Still tasted like a rusty nail dipped in urine. Left it for months. Went back. Still rusty nail dipped in urine with a side of dirty dishwater and dish liquid. I tried everything. I tried mixing it. Nope. Just brought out the urine note. I let other try it, to my surprise it was unanimously hated. I eventually poured it out. It was so bad I wouldn't even give it away. To this day, it's the only bottle I've ever poured out in 30 years of drinking whiskey. It is terrible.
No Maker’s Mark on the Hated list?? I am newish to bourbon precisely BECAUSE the only exposure I had (other than an exceptional exposure to Old Forester 1920) was the regular garden variety Maker’s Mark that’s usually at every bar. And to my novice palate, it’s absolutely jet fuel. I can smell/taste more alcohol than the notes I can smell in an Old Forester or even a Wild Turkey 101.
I had the George Dickel Tabasco at the Distellery. I had it straight and was not happy, I then poured a bit into an RC Cola and was pleasantly surprised. This is novelty whisky at its finest, it is fun to use as different mixer in whisky drinks.
i love their rye, which is alrighty a bit spicy, but sweet. I cant see myself happy with the straight tobasco dickel either lmao, you were right to mix it.
Hey TJ. Love your content. If you’re open to it, I’d love to hear your review of whiskeys in terms of value. I know you mention it some in your hunts but videos where you go over what’s a good price for the bottle and then also whats the most you’d be willing to pay. I know it varies by state some but I thought you may have seen enough to give a range so beginners like me can know
In early 2022I had a craft whiskey from Broken Bow, OK Hochatown Distilling Company Small Batch Select, 104 proof. I tried to like it for two-thirds of the bottle, then poured the rest out. There was some kind of nasty funk to it that I couldn't identify due to inexperience (my whiskey journey started in 2020 just before COVID) and it did not taste like the juice I taste-tested at the hotel where I was staying in Norman, OK. It's the only bourbon I've ever done a drain-pour with.
I have a bakers 7 that’s an 8 year 11 month bottle. I have only had a small tast of it with my friend so far. It’s decent but not necessarily my favorite bottle I’ve ever purchased. I have a bookers that is still unopened as of right now but I’m excited for the day I open it. About to purchase a bottle of bombergers and probably gonna compare the bookers and bombergers once I get it. Also I don’t hate my bottle of potstill, agreed that it’s not great. But I love willett products. My 4 year rye is one of the best ryes I’ve had (orphan barrel scarlet shade is the best try it if you can find it.) but my Rowan’s creek is one of my favorite bottles I have right now
I absolutely love that most people hate Dickel because of the minerality. It reminds me of single malt scotch and i love Dickel and single malt scotch. It adds complexity. It balances out the sweetness. I would assume the minerality comes from a combination of their water and their sugar maple charcoal filtering.
I was at first ashamed devil's cut (which at one point was my bourbon of choice in my early twenties) was on here. But after hearing him I'm like "Yeah that's fair". It has a really heavy wood flavor (which I love for some reason) and yeah it was about 20-25 bucks last I checked, and at 45% abv. Since I don't have "buy a $100+ bottle of bourbon money" I say for what it is, it's really nice. Fun note, when I use to drink this, I would get a bit tipsy, to say the least, and say I was robbing the devil of his booze, cause you know... screw him, lol.
I think Jack Daniels was picked because a lot of people have had a Jack and Coke night go terribly wrong, and now the smell reminds them of the time they almost died.
That Jim Beam Devil Cut holds a special place in my heart cause when it was newer to the shelves, I bought a fifth and drank that harsh shit with my uncle who loved it. R.I.P., Uncle Catfish Willy!
I'm brand new to the channel and I'll have to see whether y'all's style suits my preferences. But I can tell y'all right off that I *love* hearing southerners talking about whisky. I'm a Texas boy stuck in New Mexico, and whether in real life or online I'm starved for people who talk right. 🤠
I am a beam white label drinker. Because it’s cheap and I really only mix it with diet Dr.pepper. Jack daniels I like as a shot, but dislike quite a bit as a mixed drink, particularly with my go to diet dp.
....I like Devil's cut for mixing tbh I also am OK with meh at 20-30 bucks a bottle. Not at 50 or more! And the honey whiskey crap...the only way I like it. You take a hard cider, pour 10-15 ounces in a large glass. Then put in 3-4 ounces of the honey stuff. I call it a candy apple.
I dunno what it is about Jack No.7 but I really sets off my gag reflex and idk why I wouldn’t say I’m a whisky drinker and more so an amateur but I’ve never had this issue with others just with No.7 Probably something to do with my pallet or something
How did Old Crow escape this countdown? I picked up a 1/5th at the BX/PX back in 2004 for a whopping 4 dollars. It was absolutely horrible. That bottle was given away no less than 4 times. I should have ponied up an extra 2 dollars for the Military Special.
Y'all from Opelika, damn, I'm from Ohatchee, my middle brother lived in Opelika in the 90s. Y'all are definitely his kind of folks. I like a little Beam myself, from time to time. Not much of a connoisseur, as yourself. My op: JD is vile, vile, manwater. Let me pour some perfectly good liquor through my barbecue grill trap, and there you go. Vile.
Try Heaven Hill’s “Quality House” gin. $7-8 a bottle. Pure rotgut, and it’s what the bartenders use in Kentucky when you ask for a gin cocktail. Also, I don’t understand the hate for Basil Hayden’s. It’s not an amazing whiskey, but it’s a pretty good one. It’s a nice, easy sipping whiskey with a lot of good, bourbon flavors.
Jim Beam: I used to call it "Ianwater" and bought it because my roommates wouldn't touch it and it would still be there when I got home from work/school.
I drank Jack Daniels back in my early 20s and had no taste buds to speak of. You couldn't pay me to drink it now, though, not with Four Roses or any of my other favorite bourbons out there. It's not actively awful, but it's not anything special at all; I've had *far* better bourbons that are the same price on the shelf, or even cheaper. I like whiskey liqueurs sometimes; a local distillery here in NC, Mystic, makes a sweet bourbon liqueur that I'll mix with a dash of bitters and some club soda over ice as an occasional nightcap.
So did George Dickel just use the TABASCO BARRELS to make their whiskey in? Ive seen the whole process of MAKING TABASCO & how they place a ton of salt ontop the barrel so nothing can escape & im curious as to how much tabasco actually comes out in the flavor of this Georgia Dickel/Tabasco Collab
Not gonna lie, I really like Basil Hayden’s AND Tennessee Honey haha! There’s a Texas Honey Liqueur called Silver Star that I also think is really tasty. Also 21:13 unintentional Fall Out Boy reference haha! Much love from Texas, y’all!
I cannot do anything honey or syrupy tasting in my whiskey. I had a bad experiences with Wild Turkey Honey 2 years ago. Now, if i taste any syrupy, honey, or sweet in my whismey or bourbon, i will throw up. I cant do fireball either.
I have Jim Beam at the house for a well if I'm making mixed drinks. But TBH I usually prefer Jack Daniels, so I'm surprised it made the list! But I have to agree... JD Honey is rancid 🤢🤮 Also do you have a personal vendetta against George Dickel?! 😂😂😂 I'm joking, but TBH their whiskey isn't that bad and I enjoy the rye a lot.
I got tricked into buying a bottle of Jim beam white label because it came with a free glass as a gift set, it's still sitting on my bar but it's a nice glass 🤷♂️
So glad you guys made it a point to pretty much say jack honey is not real whiskey. I saw a video of some dude saying how to take a shot of Jack and then proceeded to pour himself a shot of Jack honey……………
I agree with the honorable mentions including Bulleit personally. The bar I work at used it in our old fashioned. I find Bulleit to be kind of harsh, for some reason. Maybe just a touch metallic? I'd rather just use Maker's over bulleit being that they are similar in cost. And I was REALLY disappointed with the Larceny when I had it. Also harsh and metallic, but it was just too hot. Like it wasnt mellowed out at all.
