I like the idea that you basically admit you dont have any content anymore and "create" new content by "playing" Games again. Next: < I tried Duke Nukem again>
I adore Arkane. I think Prey and Dishonored are all time greats. But when Prey gets a 6/10 and this gets a 10 I’m wondering what I missed. Prey was so clever and the mooncrash dlc did this better. I’m wondering if since the one founder left we’re just going to see tonal shifts in writing and design. Deathloop and now Redfall seem to want to be quirky
Prey launched with a lot of technical issues that brought its scores down, and was more of a hardcore immersive sim. Deathloop is completely different. It has immersive sim elements but it’s not trying to be Dishonored or Prey, and it seems like a lot of fans of those games were disappointed because they wanted it to be just that. Deathloop is extremely fun and brilliant when you take it for what it is, not what you hoped it would be. It’s not for everybody though, especially if you wanted more Dishonored
@@bizmonkey007 To be fair i would also put Prey at a 6 because its tough and not as accessible as most games. Not to say the first hour isnt an experience. But man getting lost on what to do next at any point of the game just forced me to quit at like 15-20hrs especially because of all the backtracking and doors and loading screens. DEATHLOOP is actually more immersive moment to moment
Yo facts tho, this games the most wannabe dishonored, the health bar, ap bar, teleportation, most things were copy and pasted and just look different 💀 and dishonored is way more limitless
Deathloop is not a masterpiece like Dishonored, but I do think Arkane did an excellent job with this game. I thoroughly enjoyed playing through & finishing it. Also, while it is technically considered a rogue-like, it's still so unique and Arkane has even more respect from me for really trying to think outside the box and try something new. I can't wait to see Arkane's next project.
Deathloop 7.8/10 Dishonored 9.2/10 Those are my reviews for what it's worth, which is nothing lol. Deathloop is fun for a while until you realize it's actually linear as fuck. Also playing the same levels over and over gets old. Dishonored is amazing although I feel like calling it a masterpiece is hyperbole. If that game is a masterpiece then I would say deus ex has to be an uber masterpiece but it's not
@@toastertarts2990 I'm tempted to agree but I'd say like a 9.6 only because there are other games i think are better. The only 10/10 games I can think off the rip would be Witcher 3, divinity original sin 2, and kotor (prob just nostalgia talking for kotor). If kingdom come deliverance made a sequel with more money to spend to improve on everything from the first game, which they are from what I've heard, that def has the potential for 10/10. I'm sure I'm forgetting something
@@toastertarts2990 and honestly I think mankind divided is just as good as human revolution but people always have feels for the earlier stuff. God u wish they'd make another one of those games
I think one of the biggest issues with Deathloop is that it's so hard to explain what it is (including for the devs themselves prelaunch) that people who come in with different expectations will have completely different opinions on how well it executes them. Some people seem to wish it was more rogue-like (a la Mooncrash), some wish it was more of an FPS, others more like Dishonored. I also avoided following clues (as far as through the menu or waypoints) and so I had a very different experience than most people who found the game too linear or hand hold-y. I explored the way I would Dishonored and didn't really understand the complaints in that regard because my experience was very different. But it was refreshing to see a gameplay oriented title get that kind of praise as opposed to the usual cinematic story game with passable at best gameplay that the industry has been trending towards more and more lately.
The game director wanted deathloop to be completely different to the release. She wanted it to be less linear and more open for exploration. Once the game was play tested they had to change the direction of the game which is why the execution and the premotion aren't the same.
@@littleoldmanboy I didn't say it was leaning towards linearity, I said it was leaning towards cinematic games. If anything, I wish more games would aim for linearity (Hi-Fi Rush is a damned breath of fresh air!). Elden Ring only "has no story" for anyone not paying attention.
Indeed: in a game where the usual Uncharted, The Last of Us or God of War that try to hard to be interactive movies with only the graphics to be the real highlights, a game that is actually inventive and creative like Deathloop is a breath of fresh air.
Atmosphere was pretty cool. I liked Colt and Julianna's dialogue. The guns and slabs are cool to mess around with, and i enjoyed tge exploration of each area. The problem I had is how convoluted it is to actually end the loop. It didn't keep my attention long enough to actually finish the game. I've tried to play it twice and couldn't be bothered to finish it.
Tbh the quest marks helped A LOT, Deathloop is a complex game with an overwhelming feeling when u jump in, in the end the devs had to choose "do we make this game appealing to the majority or we make it super hard in to people who are accustomed to time loop games?", yeah it wasnt ground breaking, like all the games from 2021, but its well made.
Deathloop is the equivalent of that film that really wrecks at the Oscars but now nobody really mentions, it's like "oh yeah, that movie, I remember that!"
@@NaumRusomarov Deathloop is a babies first puzzle game that doesn't let you think for yourself while Prey is like the big boy game. Then Mooncrash is like the adult version of both of those games.
@@bevanmcnicholl2525 I've played all of them. Prey:Mooncrash can be annoying to play, it's only for hardcore fans of the genre. Deathloop is a lot more chill, but even with it some people had difficulties completing the main storyline.
I enjoy these "I tried X again" videos, but sometimes I question what's the point. Has Luke ever actually changed his mind about any game later down the line? I'm actually curious
I think another thing to consider with deathloop is that 2021 was a ROUGH year for gaming, almost nothing was coming out, so in comes a game that’s a solid 7-8/10 and in comparison to the rest of the year it was amazing. I think that affected the scores as well
@@Coxy-b34 There's been a few big releases earlier this year, at least one good-sized release with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this summer, and will several higher profile games set to release this fall. I would call this a pretty good year. 2020 and 2021 were both worse in terms of games for obvious reasons lol
It's definitly a must play if you like carefully reading, listening and immersing yourself in the world while also loving the rush of an invasion. You need to be very observant to catch many of the details in the game. The game was indeed a 10/10 for me but I am the kind of person the game was made for.
Deathloop is a game I can enjoy from time to time with the use of slabs and a variety of guns but the games biggest flaw is that there is no real incentive IMO for anyone to finish it. You just stop the loop and then do it all over again which is what you do regardless. The "boss fights" are also a let down seeing how much the visionaries were hyped up. If 3 slabs could be used with reprise the gameplay would go to another level at least despite the story flaws but without that you just have a less good dishonored 3 with a worse story and watered down gameplay. Still fun though just more of a 6-7.5/10 than a 10/10🤷♂
exactly. It has too many barriers in its convoluted design to not have any real payoff. There isn't challenge in the gameplay, or reward: to me, it's just insanely simple, while also needlessly complex in all the wrong ways.
@@paddington2063 This perfectly describes the game. The codes and the clues to actually move forward with the story are way too hard to find but after your first or second day of playing you can easily clear all the visionaries and the whole map using stealth or aggression. It's too easy and honestly is in need of a difficulty slider or update of some sorts. The map changing with each loop would have done this game wonders as well. Different bosses in different maps would have been very fun. Can't say it changes each time yet have a very linear and boring story
Deathloop felt like more casual Arkane, I really like that. Have regen energy made the power fantasy feel even better than dishonored (having limited resources caused me to play really conservatively). Was a bit worried I'd have to play around a timer, super glad that's not here; I prefer to play at my pace. The story had me more interested than most, the ending kept just enough ambiguity to keep me hoping for more. PvP was also very casual, made invading and being invaded really fun. Only two abilities was kind of a bummer but I'll take it over having to wait forever for limited mana regen. 9/10
I played through the game about six months ago, maybe longer. It was my first time loop game and I really enjoyed it. Yes it holds your hand but as someone who doesn't have a ton of time to game I liked knowing what I'd done and where I was at. I'd say for me it's a solid 8/10
When a above average game came out on a time where literally nothing came out, it was seen as a pot of gold........now (and I felt like this at the time) it is totally forgotten, nobody talks about it, matter of fact this was probably the first time you thought about this game ( game of the year for some people ) since it came out , so it goes to shows you how things swing when nothing else is around to out swing it....it's a 7/10 game, good but not fantastic. Don't get me started in death stranding
The same thing happened with TLOU2, Rage 2 and Wolfenstein young blood and so many other games. Sometimes some games just release critics try to praise them, but they eventually die and you don't see them in any top 10 or 5 after a year. While some other games like Zelda BOTW, Skyrim, and now Elden Ring keep getting praise from the actual gamers everyday.
@@n124ajdx Dont really think TLOU2 is one of those games, its still talked about and no where near the level of games like rage 2 or wolfenstein young blood
I genuinely rate it 10/10, I’ve found anyone critiquing the game either didn’t enjoy it because they weren’t good at the game or felt like it was “open world enough”. I platinumed the game and collected every multiplayer outfit and enjoyed it so much. It has so much story to offer and attempting the trophies make it so much fun. Some of my best memories last year was ruining peoples runs in multiplayer. People really need to immerse themselves more in the lore and game. Try and enjoy it and mot rush it, cause you wont have fun otherwise. 🔥
I think critics like it because it’s easy. They rarely like hard games unless public opinion has already established their love for it and that being honest about not liking it is social suicide
Good weapons: “broken!” Settings that he doesn’t like that can be changed: “game holds your hand” “Ima bash the whole game and then say it’s interesting, and then give it an 8/10” This guy is a joke. Won’t be coming back.
It's certainly not a 10/10 but I enjoyed the shit out of my time with it. Just the moment I realised "oh it doesn't actually matter what I do it's all gonna end the same" kind of let me down and has killed the replay value for me. It's a decent 8 and needed more honest marketing.
@@unicorntomboy9736 Well I think it can be a good thing after the hype has cooled off a bit or the environment of the gaming industry has changed. You revisit the game to see how you feel about it after all the excitement and other people's opinions have died down a bit. Game can go from being called bad to "I actually ended up playing and liking it" or just simply stays as you remember it. For example The Order 1886 came out at the time when QTEs were in every other game, the game was also quite short, expensive so people spit on it. I played it and loved every moment despite the flaws. Today I see more and more people enjoying the game after actually giving it a try.
@@unicorntomboy9736 I’d argue that more reviewers need to do this sort of thing as it truly tests the game and whether or not it held up over the years
@@bronzin1445 I think it's more like Luke has just ran out of ideas. He needs to try out games outside of his comfort zone, that being RPGs made by Western developers. Again, why not talk about Persona 5 Royal, or Nier Automata instead
I think this game in particular needs to hold your hand because there's so much going on. You'd forget half of it if it didn't keep track of it. Like I stopped playing half way through the game. I'm glad it's kept track of it so I can continue with it. I would have to start again if it didn't keep track of everything.
You can turn off quest markers if you want to discover everything Check your settings. Some people need quest markers, some people have disabilities. They give you both options. Best of both worlds for all people.
I thought Deathloop was alright. It had an interesting concept, but I felt the execution could've been better. My most favorite game from Arkane Studios is Prey though. I just loved the level design of that game.
To be honest I enjoyed Deathloop more probably because I enjoy the look of the world and concept more. It might be watered down version of Dishonored regarding parts of the gameplay but other factors which are subjective also matter.
I’ve been noticing this trend lately that streamlined games are getting higher review scores than games with deep and thought provoking gameplay because layman gamer
@@bronzin1445 Even Elden Ring compared with Bloodbourne or Sekrio. Bloodbourne has a unique setting with a unique back story.combat is fast and fuild and the boss fights are much better designed. Elden Ring gets a such a high score when it has allot more faults with how its bosses are designed and have allot of repeated boss fights as well. Might be due to Game standards getting lower
Fun Fact. Luke Stevens says you can’t change the FOV on PS5 but on Nov. 2021, patch 1.2 added a FOV & Motion blur options. so either too lazy to check or just didn’t know that was an option
He simply wanted so hard to jump on the bandwagon of “is NoT a 10/10”! (While completely ignoring other game way more overrated like Uncharted or the new God of War). But i can’t expect a lot from someone who fawn for the Mad Max game.
Deathloop had fun combat, solid art direction, endearing characters, a good amount of customization, and great level design when compared to most games (just not Dishonored). It has a neat premise that could have been executed better, but I still think it handled it fairly well. The only thing I truly think it did poorly, and the warped, corroded linchpin that’s causing everything praiseworthy to wobble, is the enemy AI. Why bother with the great level design or the inventive build variety when you’re unopposed unless Juliana shows? What consequence do the roguelite elements have when it’s so hard to lose? It is only one flaw, but detracts heavily from the experience.
I told my friends, "Deathloop is the most 7/10 game I've ever played." The only reason I enjoyed it more was because the whole time I was looking for clues that possibly tied it to the Dishonored universe....and, well.....let's just say I was hype by the end.
@@deadeyemidget0892 Minor SPOILERS: The main one I found is actually an environment asset. If you've played Dishonored 1, there's these neat metal chairs with visors that suggest they would be used by the people of Dunwall to protect them from the sun. Those same chairs are found on a roof and in the library in Updaam. Major SPOILERS: At the end of Deathloop, Juliana hands you a dueling pistol that uses whale oil cartridges like the Dishonored pistol which confirms it's in the Dishonored universe. I don't think it's too speculative to infer the Visionaries are studying and tapping into the Void.
They have so many new things they could experiment with: 1. 3v3 elimination match (So they could make up a story where all the colts and julianas somehow are all in the same loop and need to fight to death) 2.a story mode about juliana, (DLC) how she even got colt and everybody else to do this operation in the first place. 3.another part of the island could be included for a extra level for weapons, abilities and even a extra person to kill. 4. A PvE could be a good one with all players being colt and just fighting of the etrernalists and it gets processingly harder, with of course you earning points for abilities and weapons. 5.they could obviously make a DLC story mode where you play as the previous colt you seen in the first mission(the one who tells you the code is on the postcard) who's story Is everything leading up to that's situation I enjoyed deathloop but I feel like there is more they could have added.
i finished it twice, it was amazing each time. I loved it thoroughly. For me the game is a good 8/10 or 9/10. Probably one of the most innovative games I've played in a long time. But the game has its problems such as its weak AI, mediocre gun-play, as well as the time-loop mechanics, which confuses a lot of people as you have to pay attention and remember key details. For me the best part was that the 4 maps together with the time-loop mechanics made the game enjoyable and pretty easy to play. Games nowadays either go for an open-world setup, where the entire world is a single large scene that you roam, or a sequence of 12-16 different maps/worlds that you pass through. Deathloop removes that and simply gives you 4 fairly small maps that change over time. This allows the player to learn the setup and become proficient at the game quickly. The time loop mechanics and the story-line keeps everything fresh. Spectacular! :-)
In my opinion it's a 8/10, it's well crafted, the story is pretty good, the mystery kept me hooked till the end even if I found the ending a bit lackluster. Gameplay is solid, not groundbreaking like it was in dishonored 1/2 (which I think are 9/10 and classics), but competent. Setting was pretty cool, music was awesome. it came out a time when nothing else was, and in a era in videogames where we have become used to unpolished turds full of microtransactions being sold to us for 70$. Had it been scored a 9/10 (which in my opinion is still inflated) people wouldnt have batted an eye. 10/10 should be reserved for masterpieces, which this isnt. It's not a 7/10 either.
The PvP invasions are a little more complicated than that if you're invaded by players that know what they're doing. It's not always who sees who first.
Are the extreme high critic scores some sort of journalist' compensation for Arkane's earlier work which often didn't get the recognition it deserved? I believe some gaming journalists (and also in other media actually like movies and books) see their taste as something really special or clever. The more en vogue or outspoken a product, the more they love it. But general public just wants a good game. In my mind that also explains some discrepancy between the general public and journalism.
I just started this on my steamdeck. So far I like the game for what it is. I'm playing returnal on ps5. It's a rogue like game, but aside of a sci-fi shooter, it's also a psychological thriller. I think you would like it. The story leaves a lot to the imagination and I have a personal theory what the game is all about, but nothing is set in stone until I finish the game. If you read this, then please try returnal if you haven't done so already
For me, it's between 8 and 8.5. The story was awesome, but you won't grasp everything by the end unless you read every single note and complete every side quest. I do wish the game fully revealed the story before the final act of the game. The A.I. can be dumb at times, but I feel it's also what makes you feel like a badass as you slash off the heads of unsuspecting eternalists. There weren't really any boss fights in the game and it did make the visionaries almost the same as the eternalists. Juliana was always the toughest to best in my opinion, and not because she was really fun to fight against, but because she spawns outta nowhere and unloads enough rounds into you to make you feel like the unlucky target in a firing range. With all that, I still had an awesome time with Deathloop. It kept me hooked from start to finish with intriguing mysteries, fun discoveries, tight gameplay and a long list of other great features I'm too lazy to mention. I don't think it's a 10/10, but I do believe it was very much worth my time and money.
Deathloop was a great game with a great story and premise. Just finished it and enjoyed every single Loop. Every single new piece of information gathered was an accomplishment and finding all the secrets of the island. I don’t understand all the hate this game gets. Yeah there’s some flaws I think could’ve been better executed but it’s not for some people and that’s okay. Puzzles were fun and gathering intel and going back to explore the areas at different times of day and seeing how they change was satisfying and fun to do. This game gets a bad wrap and it doesn’t deserve it at all. Overall it’s a 8/10 in my book. Colts history and slowly unraveling what brought him to the island and who the Visionaries are to him was interesting and kept me motivated the whole time. Wish more people knew how great this game is
I'm not far in the game but I like it....not the best player...so I find it hard. I do wish that Bethesda would figure out how to make games without load screens. With all the improvements in SSD. Not sure why they're still doing this. Starfield would have been way better if it was seemless. Other than that I like it.
Deathloop is a game that works if both Colt and Juliana are being played by high ceiling players. The fact Juliana can technically help Colt out is absolutely awesome. I helped and took down so many Colts in my day.
What was most bizzare for me regarding Deathloop was its marketing, especially early. A lot of people actually believed that this is a multiplayer heavy coop game instead of a single player game because of how the trailer were presented. They really gave an impression of a multiplayer first game.
Just looking at the menu showing the times of day and areas to choose from is another reminder of how disappointing this game turned out to be. The central concept is SO GOOD and was done so well in Prey: Mooncrash, and yet here most of the actual time and exploration aspects of the loop are based not on how your actions in the loop but instead on picking things on a menu. Similarly, you don't find the final solution by trial and error, repetition, and experimentation, but instead by following a prescribed series of objectives. The studio stripped the best aspects of their previous games out of Deathloop for reasons I still don't quite understand, and it's not a surprise to me that the general consensus among most reviewers (and many publications now) is that other Arkane titles were far more deserving of this kind of reception, while Deathloop arguably was a big step backward for them.
If you watch interviews w the developer he explains it is bc all the testers didn't understand or know what to do even after 2 updates they made adding markers and tutorials. So the answer is we got this bc ppl are dumb and lazy minded
I tried playing deathloop, just couldn’t get into it. The story was too confusing. And if I can’t understand the story of a narrative game, then I’m just pushing buttons and wasting time
Does anything get you closer to killing all of the visionaries in one go ? I loved the game when I got it but the idea of having to rush through all of them turned me off from it ha don’t know why because I liked speedrunning dishonored levels. It was easy too once you got down the secret paths & stuff
@@rossbob5583 Well, the good thing about the game is that you don't need to speedrun. Time only moves when you go to different area. So you can take your time in first area, find them all, then go to next one and repeat.
I recently played Deathloop when it popped up on gamepass. I enjoyed it for about 4 hours and then was kinda done with it. It didn’t really hold my attention, I didn’t find any of the weapons or powers particularly interesting. The game also felt small. Normally I don’t mind playing the same areas over and over again, hell I’ve played probably every mission on MGSV dozens of times, same with the Sniper Elite games and Hitman. I didn’t find anything super compelling to bring me back to Deathloop. It’s not a bad game by any means, just didn’t really appeal to me after the first few loops.
Another issue is that it isn't an actual time loop. The day is split into four phases within which you can spend as much time as you like doing whatever. I was excited by the premise of this game because I expected it to have a ticking clock; one single day-night cycle to accomplish your task and where events and environments dynamically change as the day goes by. That would have added some much needed urgency and challenge to the game. What we got was far less interesting/engaging.
@@anubisgod23 there's an interview with the game campaign director somewhere on youtube. deathloop seemed to have begun like prey:mooncrash but players were confused, irritated and bored. they had serious problems figuring out what to do next in the game. over an endless number of iterations this is what we got -- it's dumbed down but also "consumable" by most players.
Um, as someone who played the HELL out of Dishonored 1-2 like crazy... yeah, being a big fan of Arkane did nothing to make me -like- Deathloop. If anything, it added to the disappointment because of realizing they'd watered down their own gameplay. In fact, several aspects, like the handholding, are precisely the opposite of what I expect from an Arkane game. They did this to make their style of game more palatable to people who DON'T typically play their games. That's why you're seeing Deathloop review better - it's easier to beat and has shinier, zanier presentation. Typically, if you have good presentation and aren't too hard to beat, that's sadly what seems to get an 8 out of 10 minimum these days. Also, no, professional game critics don't typically even get to choose their assignments if they're working for bigger sites. Like, I'm a big horror fan - yet one site kept giving me strategy games to review instead. Honestly it's pretty baffling at times, and other times it's down to who's available for the work. Like, that infamous Polygon Doom 2016 video? JRPG fan got assigned that because the FPS-inclined staff were busy on other content. There's other historic examples of this, like how Game Informer always has a separate person previewing games as opposed to the person reviewing them. For example, Mike Futter was super on board for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, but the actual reviewer gave it an "average". Same for Army of Two with Megan Marie as opposed to Dan Ryckert who dismissed it out of hand.
I couldn't finish this game. A shame because I just binged played Dishonored 2 and Prey back to back and loved them both. I was so enjoying Deathloop for the 2-3 hours then I went "Oh no this is it isn't it" then just dropped it. I was really disappointed by this game.
Deathloop is the manifestation of the fear I have of roguelite/likes getting as popular as they have been and big AAA studios catching on going like "Wait, you mean we can re-use a few levels, re-use assets and have the players constantly go through those same aspects of the game over and over again with nothing really new..... as long as it's 'roguelite' and.....we'll get praised for it? Fucking sign us the fuck up." And I like roguelites, don't get me wrong. Hades is one of my favorite games of all time. But that formula and marketing it as THAT is like a fucking godsend for big budget companies that are doing this shit anyway. But even for fans of Arkane games I don't understand how anyone can give this a perfect or close to perfect rating. It's a mish mash of all of their games and none of it is done as well as they were in those games they drew it from. Like Dishonored 1 and 2. Both better Arkane games, better games than Deathloop.
Luke there’s literally a field of view option in the ps5 menu😂 you have it set to only 80. You said you hated the field of view and wished you could change it. But you can change it on ps5, you just completely missed it lol.
DEATHLOOP is the truth. I had an outstanding time, I really don't get the apathy toward this game. It was like untying a giant knot; little by little it opens up, and solving it is mad satisfying. I can only guess that people went into this expecting a shooter. It's not; it's an information-gathering puzzle game with shooting. 10/10 for me. Arkane wins yet again.
Reviewers especially can't just enjoy games they have to compare it to dishonored or something else. 10/10 is crazy though... GOW 2016 was a 10/10..Mass effect, RE2.....not saying it's not a good game....but definitely not 10/10.
I adored the Dishonored games and still I consider Prey the best Arkane game to date. So you can say I'm a fan of these kind of games. But Deathloop is not a 9 or 10 for me. It's a low 7 and just because I got it for free as a birthday present. Otherwise It would be a 6. I don't think critics rated Deathloop so high because they were simply fans of the genre...
Not sure I'd agree with saying Arkane fanboys/girls love Deathloop. It definitely isn't a 9 or 10/10 or up to scratch with Arkane's previous immersive sims. A lot of reviewers who loved Dishonored and Prey critiqued Deathloop for its more linear structure and crappy AI. I guess I'm thinking of smaller names but Arkane fans are a rare breed.
Almost all the powers are variations of the ones in Dishonored 1, 2, Death of the Outsider and Prey. In Deathloop you'll even run into various assets that they've also used in the games I've mentioned. Also, like Prey, the sound mixing is seriously effed up. Sometimes enemies sound like they're walking and talking right next to you, while they're 30 feet away. The user interface is probably the worst I've ever seen in a game. It's so confusing! I had to watch a RU-vid walkthrough to understand how to navigate the menu...
I agree that the game has many issues but i really enjoyed the game the story was interesting and it was also something new funny and also a good time killer so in my opinion its a good game with some issues that could be resolved but also not necessary
This game is not a 10/10 but I feel like most of the points you made are moot because you didn’t play the game again, you just continued playing it, to play it again you reset colts progress, the whole point is to figure it out for yourself and build your arsenal, by the end colts power level is so strong that it is a reward to fly through levels you struggled with before now finally mastering the loop, and unlocking the real end game which is the pvp invasions meshing contextually with the non breaking the loop ending eternally having fun killing each other with Julianna. Its just a different game it wasn’t sold as a grand story it’s praised for its exceptional creative gameplay. Also it’s your choice to do things the same way over and over that’s not the fault of the game.
I 'accidentally' found the dual wield handguns that can combine into an automatic rifle in the first hour of playing....i never took them off for my entire playthorugh...
This game is weird. I find it satisfying, and there’s something about replaying parts to get the jump on enemies and bosses. The shooting feels punchy. But it’s weird because sometimes deaths feel cheap and this game is realllllly punishing. Still, stabbing a visionary through the back makes you feel like a master assassin wizard
It feels bad, it looks bad, time loop is boring, all the enemies are the same and it basically feels like the bad version of Dishonoured. Honestly just play Dishonoured, it's a miracle of a game
Doesn't seem like you played much pvp, and yet were very quick to judge/dismiss it. You don't have to immediately hack the antenna, you can continue on your objectives and make her come after you. Regardless of equipment, either player can sneak up and assassinate the other from behind or with a drop kill. But Colt has a huge advantage over Julianna because he has 3 lives and has more information.
I also think that review copies of the games are a bad thing , you spend 60 or 70 bucks for a game you expect good experience , for reviewers that don't have to do that , if the game is just ok it's no big deal but if you have a budget of like 60 $ a month for a game that you will play for whole month or even longer good or medicore games are not gonna cut it . This game even when pretty good had bugs at lunch and was not worth the full asking price.
I don't even think the issue with the reviews came down to expectations, because Dishonored was one of my favorite series and Prey was a masterpiece on it's own, but Deathloop is a 6-7/10 on a good day
When I played Dishonoured I was itching for a more linear game with a lot more guns and zero ramifications for killing everything lol. Deathloop scratched that itch so I give it a solid 8.
It's amusing to me that the game about breaking out of a loop is the one with the least player agency out of all the Arcane titles so far. Not only in the objective structure but the sandbox is probably the worst too. The AI and lack of enemy variety is obvious problem, gun ballance further handicaps it because the most convenient solution to all you kills is shotgun spam, you have to get out of you way to use some of the more creative abilities. Overall I found Deathloop to be just weirdly easy to beat outside of maybe the invasions but those are more cheese than difficult. So with that, all it has going for it is the story and characters. Colt is pretty awesome and he is probably the one thing that kept me playing til the credits. Imo 7/10 at most if I don't count the bugs it had on launch when I played it.
I killed all the enemies with that 2 hand guns that combine into 1 caus I just found headshots so much more satisfying. Style over efficiency for me lol
This was a classic example of the disconnect between what reviewers want in a game and what consumers want. Deathloop is by no means a bad game (it's competently made with some clever gameplay), but the fact that it got 10's is what's so disconcerting. The whole point of a "play as you like" game is just that: you should be able to approach any given situation in any ways you want. Deathloop, oddly enough, has zero replay value. How, in a game structured in the way it is, is there only (and I mean only) one solution to the game? How stifling it felt knowing that there was only one way to kill all the Visionaries and "beat" the game. There should be at MINIMUM 3 ways to kill all the Visionaries. It was so boring funnelling them to the Wolf's party, with only the slabs offering different tangible ways to progress the game.
As a huge Dishonored fan, and I mean that as in favorite games of all times. This game just kinda fell flat in more ways than the ones you mentioned. you'd think that the stealth and fluid game play and the abilities would have me hooked like they hooked me at first in Dishonored because let's be real here. they did steal 90% of the abilities from their own Dishonored. i mean the teleport ability is just blink like come on, same for the linking people and killing them all the same way. and masquerade they took from Dishonored death of the outsider. Whilst i don't mind that it does raise this problem: strangely it didn't hook me, it just made me wanna go back to dishonored instead because somehow that feels more repayable than the game that was marketed with infinite repeatability in the form of a time loop. It was such a weird feeling, and I want to like this game but i just constantly had Dishonored in the back of my head when playing and not in a good way but rather in a ''I just wanna go play Dishonored now'' way. though i fully agree with your 7 or 8 out of 10. somehow Arkane made a game for Dishonored fans that didn't resonate with a day one Dishonored fan. Odd.
Dove back into this game. It's even better with the new options you can tweak. Try this game on one reprise with limited HUD (removing quest markers was a game changer). So challenging and good.
@LESON Still cannot understand the reviews… it’s basically a Prey Mooncrash but worse. 4 maps, not a single interesting mission (with the exception of the intro) and basically just a fetch quests that are turned into main ones. Not to mention the hideous enemy variety (meaning none)
@@samdixon3719 Tbh it is very simmilar to other games from arkane that are good + they have a good shooting. Not to mention that Doom for example, is on whole other level. I can't really enjoy shooting when there is no enemy variety and non-existent AI. It just makes it dull in this game.
I honestly think that progression would get meeeessy without some of the quest markers pointing in the right direction. There's a lot that needs to get done in this game and if you miss some details it could derail into you scouring the open world for hours wondering what to do.
After playing it for many hours, I admit you were pretty right about this game. I'm even starting to feel bored in a game that was really exciting at the beginning...
If a reviewer had played dishonoured in the past then they would’ve dunked on deathloop, dishonoured are amazing games and deathloop was a huge disappointment
Deathloop and its reviews feel... Desperate. It's like the game itself and reviewers really wanted desperately for this to be another classic immersive-sim, or the one game that would make the genre even more mainstream.
As a massive Dishonored and Prey fan, Deathloop is the most 7/10 game I've played, it's like Ubisoft made it before they became hyperobsessed with sheer scale
It's hilarious to behold everyone pretend they don't understand why Deathloop got a 10 out of 10 despite the gameplay and "story" being at best a 7 out of 10
You think they paid their way to all these 10/10? They are not a huge studio compared to the rest of them. If that's the case, almost all AAA games would constantly be 10/10 I would think. What are you thinking the cause is?
@@madmatt6454 Not unlike how The Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance got harangued by the media/game urinalists for not having any black or brown NPCs, while A Plague Tale got raving reviews and not a single media outlet got angry even tho there's not a single black or brown NPC in it. But it did have a female lead, and all the antagonists and NPCs are evil huwyte males. And since Deathloop features 2 black characters, "everyone" gave it raving reviews despite it's one of the most lackluster games Arcane Studios since its inception. At least that's how I conclude following the industry.
@@diligencehumility6971 _"You think they paid their way to all these 10/10?"_ No. _"What are you thinking the cause is?"_ Antiwhiteism, preferential treatment, and pure and utter activism within the "games" media.
