You are correct...my problem is I don't think I'll stay interested long enough to even get to Tier 3, which is where things seem to get going. Somehow the characters seem weaker and in Helltides, those Meteor Storms are even more frequent and they are just annoying busywork. I have 2 Level one-hundreds and a couple of 60 levels...but it feels like I'm starting in the middle of a game. This seems a bit like the S-one, S-3 season stinkers.
Diablo is supposed to be a simple but deep game. Blizzard's games have always been simple. Diablo 2 is basically just left clicking and it has basically nothing going for it, yet it's the best. It's aged like wine. Mobile games usually add more complexity to compensate for the lack of depth. It's why Diablo Immortal is better than Diablo 3 (we all know it's the truth).
So let me get this straight, they've carefully crafted an open world Diablo game...and THE BIG endgame system is contained within 1 small room. Incredible.
@@The69Oskar69 At absolute endgame, helltides are completely useless and just too easy. Currently, I can stand still and afk until logout in any part of helltide and my thorns will kill everything in virtually 1 hit. I am not specced for crazy thorns either. We need something new and unique, not the same ol crap. It's literally diablo 3 mechanics all over again.
I agree. It feels less end-game and more like something to do to get materials. This is fine, as it is nice to have options, but it needs to be a small part of what the next season has to offer and not the focus.
While correct. I feel like they finally got loot (e.g. affixes) mostly right. And now they’re trying to add grind activities via seasons that will permanently added to the game.
@@jamiestoehr7331 I think they've taken a great step with look, but it's still basically bland. I still play D2 and know every item by heart, but I find myself looking at every piece anyway. They just nailed it there and need to make the look more than just functional. It needs to be exciting, They can do that in updates. Let the gameplay content be more of an expansion thing.
It's *almost* literally the arena from Last Epoch, right down to the "every 5 waves" and pick your affixes between waves. I think it's a good addition, although it's maybe the bare minimum and without an infinite wave leaderboard like LE there's really no reason to engage with it in perpetuity.
There has never been endgame activity in D4. You level to 100. You get the good loot. You keep playing to get slightly gooder loot, but there’s no point. There’s nothing to really achieve. Also, going from 75-100 is pretty simple and uneventful. But its not like there’s 14 ways to build your character. Each season has pretty much gimped several classes (sorcerer) and the Meta becomes 1-3 builds in various classes.
They should just make it similar to how Call of Duty Zombies Round-base mode is. Have unlimited of rounds, and put players in a small maps that gets bigger as they "unlock" additional rooms by spending resources that is dropped by killing the mobs. Each room should have some "buffs" that players can unlock with the resources. As the rounds go by, the monster difficulty obviously increases as well as its density, requiring players to venture further into the map, unlocking more doors to have access to better "buffs". Have a special boss appear at XX number of rounds that drops special loot / chance for uber uniques maybe.
@@JasenKiefer tey definetly have the budget on doing something bigger, ability? new blizz got barely enough ability to nerf the event they advertised as op lol
In a game like diablo that already has high enemy density, a horde mode is probably the least inspired worst idea someone who gets paid too much can come up with.
more joke is last epoch is 1 time pay2play but this one is paypaypaypaypay(infinite)2play if every expansion cost 40+ dollars i am not gonna play it better go to play poe and last epoch or w/e else will release like once human is gonna release on july 10
I like the idea of fighting the council once again, but I don't like they're stuck inside some game mode. I loved the trek up to them in D2. They should have put them in an expansion quest.
My ARPG hot take is that I actually prefer how PoE never has public PTRs and the new league mechanic and endgame reworks are a surprise. It sometimes causes them to need to make quick patches after launch but I think that's fine. The benefit is that league launch feels really exciting and like you're discovering the mechanic, rather than everything already being solved before it even launches.
What I like about seasonal mechanics is that they change the builds and the gameplay, the way you play... this is 'only' a game-mode but doesn't affect your character per se. Would have liked that this mode dropped unique item modifiers, like special gems with passive habilities or maybe an extra tempering slot to set to a specific game-mode unique manual.
This wave-based mode in Diablo 4 Season 5 feels really tacked on. Masterworking is already extremely grindy as it is, and it's very boring. It's also not really that different from Nightmare Dungeons-I would keep one and discard the other. It feels like they are rushed to add modes to compensate for how poor D4 was for such a long time, and they are not spending the amount of time and depth required to create great modes. Path of Exile did it over many, many years, and they are trying to do it across 2 seasons. The lack of depth and originality shows. Like, let's face it, these modes don't even remotely compare to any of the evergreen modes or new seasons PoE does. They need to focus on quality and polish, not rushing them out. These modes feel like they are re-using and re-purposing so much of the base game rather than genuinely making something new.
I really hate Diablo's boring conditional stats and buffs and upgrades... "While slowed by growth, expend no resources". Its so boring and situational. Why not let me juice up my powers directly? Why not go crazy with this mode and have fun upgrades at the end like "cooldowns reduced 50%" or "damage radius for all attacks doubled"? You know, FUN STUFF. I swear they put no thought into it anymore. Community has to hand hold everything.
I was hoping this would be like endless waves of enemies that become so overwhelming you can’t stop them… like an endless hoard. Having a short timer like 10 seconds to choose the boon/bane would ramp up the intensity.
I like how the elite mechanics changes as you progress towards level 200, though if they could add some lore to the unique loot or some mockery from the council when you lose a round that would be more interesting
I play those Shrines in season 4 in Helltides on softcore. I think that's where they got the idea from. I don't see them being used in HC, to often. If they think this is worth $100, they ought to just quit now.
I'd say what D4 is missing, is open world content. Now i might get some heat for it, but Lost Ark made a really cool open world experience. Besides of all the negatives like p2w and so on. This topic is something what made my friends at the end quit, cause you're just farming for a Build to work and if you've achieved it, you're sitting here and think, "what now?" But s4 was a banger so far. So kudos to blizzard(finally) for that👍
Dear god no more Open world stuff. It's bad enough needing to level up in a helltide for 70 levels. THe idea is bad and they should go back to making ARPG content
This doesn't seem bad, per se. It's not exciting, though. The perks just don't seem very interesting, imo. They needed to do crazy or interesting stat buffs, but they made them event modifiers instead which is the worst choice they could have made. However, I may still play since the end game is generally entertaining at this point and this is the past season before the expansion.
I was hoping the boons would be something like: "Your attacks cost +20 resource but ricochet 3 times" "Physical damage spawns a bolt of lightning that deals 40% of the original hit" "Lightning damage has a 50% chance to shock, you deal 25% more damage to shocked enemies"
is druid fun? im considering making a druid, for season 5 ( i played druid as my first hero but only until lvl 45 then i changed to minion necro, im also having a barb now)
its wild how last epoch is eleventh hour games' first swing at an arpg, from a damn near indie studio, and it shits all over this game, with an almost ubiquitous name, monster budget, and massive team lol
Give the Druid and Sorcerer and Necromancer an extra aspect slot somehow and you don’t have to buff everything and it creates builds!!! Druid - can wield 2H and Totem at attack speed cost. Sorc - + 1 amulet or enchantment Necro - +1 ring Or add a micro slot that’s like a half aspect. The opposite of amulet/2H. Necros are doing fine but it would open up so many builds and you wouldn’t feel majorly punished taking a 2H. 1H would still be valuable due to the variety options.
@@MixMeister5000 oh would to I completely agree more endgame bosses is a must, I just prefer that they consist of actually fighting the boss not the environment
@@Valverde713 I hated Season 3, pretty boring, but having one boss where you fight the enviroment isn't all that bad in a sea of bosses where you don't. Variety man.
I did hell tides and NM’s for a bit. Nothing dropped for me. I did the whispers one time and it dropped. The compass doesn’t always drop. I think I spent 3 hours playing and only got 2 compasses. One was from the quest it gives you. Then having to spend time thru the 5 waves, only to get bs drops. If they’re going to give you random bs gear then compasses need to drop more often. I thought it was a waste of time. Curious if the aether you get stacks for the next run. I had 75 on one run.
I mean even if its just there to shake things up, and you only do a certain amount of runs a season its additional content. Which means, if they add a bit of end game every season, then you will have lots of variety sooner then later.
@@draftingish4833correct 👍 Will be interesting to see what the seasonal mechanic is gonna be. Considering it's a shorter season and they most likely still polish the expansion I don't expect it to be that much but also hope they prove me wrong lol
@@sonoftristram yeah I mean, it seems like hey are at least trying to give us some stuff. Yah know? Even if its a bit of a miss at first, if its permanent then it means it can be iterated on later.
I do like the story behind the theme for the season. I expected a valient last stand against the infernal horde, but instead found the hells to be more empty than Sanctuary. You get more density and better rewards for doing Helltides compared to the new Infernal Horde event. Especially considering you have to farm and upgrade the event it should be at least twice or more as rewarding compared to killing infernal maiden in helltides. I want to battle the horde of enemies Inarius and the church of light army fought or similar threat. I would suggest you change the event to never ending stream of enemies that either upgrade by kill count or increasing at set times (starting with small demons upgrading to larger ones, champions, elites, bosses etc). Make it tiers of difficulty how long you have to survive the infernal horde l. Tier 3 example survive 5 minutes with the difficulty of mobs ramping as time progresses in intervals (every 30 seconds or so ) tier 8 being surviving for 10 minutes before fighting council. Base rewards on time survived, hardcore characters would have to choose their tiers wisely. You could still do banes and boons, attack a mass, fill a soul well, or destroy an alter etc to modify waves or give bane and boon but I believe would be better while in combat. You could give mini objectives during the wave if you fail it then you get a bane otherwise you get a Boon if you succeed. I also like the idea of being cast out of hell after defeating the council by a prime evil something or by the council itself and being left with a reward. Not sure how the portal to escape makes sense otherwise. I believe a true survival mode would be really engaging, with truly endless waves to a time. Keeping the highest survival time around 10 minutes then plan for a 2-5 minute council fight depending on your character’s gear/progression.
i dont think the endgame modes have to be super long and be able to be repeated over and over, i just think there has to be more choices, so this is a good addition
People are just crazy in chat 😅 personally I play all the arpgs from season to season and Diablo 4 is fun enough now to play, and season 5 still has more improvements. I’m excited for the grim dawn expansion and titan quest 2 as well good time overall for ARPG players. I play PoE the least but it’s still a decent game.
@@ezcoreg759 aren't ARPG's all about quantity though? Lots of enemies, lots of loot, lots of numbers, lots of activities, lots of builds, lots of neuron activation
I was hoping when I heard about it that'd it'd be a full on keep playing until you die mode where every round you pick your bonus and just hope that you get the best set in order to go further. Having everything be a negative and some of the positives being get more aether just turns it into a mat farm event and not an endgame activity. There are many games out there that whole concept is the rougelite push further, faster, get stuff that can slowly your gear/character overtime to push further faster. That would be sick if they had that. It actually gives you a reason to farm for gear and min max and replay levels. I guess the main problem with this theoretical game mode would be that they'd nerf it to make it easier for the general population, as well as easier on the weaker classes meaning there won't be a challenge for a maxed out barbarian. And even if they did create two tiers, where the second was a harder mode that had better loot, it'd still be disappointing if you had a weak class that season that struggles in the easy mode and felt like you were forced to create (again, probably barbarian) so that you can breeze the easy mode and do the hard mode. Endgame activities are truly fked until classes receive equal buffs or equal nerfs. They don't need to have identical balance stats, but they do need to converge towards each other.
They know it is mediocre shit, but they still play it and they will also promote expansion with their names. Blizzard should get kick in their but, not attention.
With expansion it will be the same story as with core game release, content creators will hype it up, people will buy it and then, all of the sudden it will turn out to be shit. Can`t take these people serious. Wudijo`s cope about Diablo Immortal is still the best example.
My only problem with this is that it doesnt really bring something new that we havent already done. It just feels recycled, like you said some of the mini events are like from helltide just combined with this game event.
Who is bringing something totally new and innovative that doesn't have pieces from existing games? I don't see any game being innovative like that and haven't in years.
@@ThmsDouglas Exactly why game companies arent doing it, we havent really had any real big innovative games come out(you can argue Palworld mixed it up a bit for a couple of months which is why it peaked so high)and the gaming community is starving for the next best thing, which is why they keep drip feeding us cause they know they just have to do the minimal amount of effort and we will eat it up, because sadly we have nothing better to do or play. Almost 30 years of the grind, I know the grind and I understand its always going to be in our games, Im fine with that, but dont try to sell me on a new endgame content which is just the same content mechanics that we previously had. Take the pit for instance, its just Abattoir of Zir from season 2, and both of them are just recycled Greater Rifts from D3. Ya know? Im not saying D4 is a terrible game, I just wish the Devs would come out with something completely fresh or atleast make more effort to add more layers to previous content you are recycling/reusing. We still dont know all of whats in store for the expansion so -hopefully- something unique and enjoyable. I agree with DM, its not bad, but how long will it keep our attention for? PoE2 is right around the corner and while PoE doesnt compete with D4 because their targeted player base are not the same, PoE2 might because its fresh and a brand new start that might call to d4 players to try out for something new and more challenging.
So from what I seen so far all even seasons are different colored helltides as well that makes the roadmap season 5 horde mode, season 6 another helltide, and season 7 will probably be an extraction mode knowing blizzard.
I hate it in Diablo that the events are all at night. at least most of them. I would like to see my abilities during the day without a red bottom. Maybe I did too much helltide. can no longer see the colors at night. I mean hell isn't just blood and darkness. Build acid fields with meat-eating plants. something with a different color tone.
I feel like this this to go on for longer, it just being 4-10 waves is just way to short, they could just ask you at the end, ''Keep descending ?'', So people could have the choice to leave at the end, or to keep going, upping the difficulty.
Honestly I felt the same. After my first run I loaded up a second run, and when I was picking the aether modifiers I just stopped caring about which one I picked because whats the point if its only 5 freaking waves.
It would be good if the loot was amazing and maybe you can get angel breathe and any other material from the pit randomly through the waves. That would be fun.
@@vividly94 how is it stupid? Having to use a 3rd party like discord or reddit to find people to boss with is stupid. Same with trading. We need a group finder in game, and an auction house in game.
Class buffs??? People are skipping tiers 1-3, and leveling from 0-100 in less than 4 hours as is. They're literally walking through 99% of the game until they finally hit a challenge in late game pits, and at that point, that's the only thing left to do. They've made the game ridiculously easy, and you want more player buffs?
Monster diversity should be the next focus. They improved player mechanics so they should make monster variety more interesting. And with that, they should expand the skill tree to help deal with the unique monsters.
Seems like a good xp farming bonus, depending on the rewards at much higher levels (if there are such) could be useful to grab rare resource such as Angelbreath and gem dust in quantity. Otherwise it's just bonus levelling mode.
well, actually🤓 for them to run out of ideas, they would need to have some in the first place... copy pasta of things that worked in other games doesnt count as an "idea" (atleast in my book).
My problem is the lack of new assets. Other games have brand new environments, textures, enemies, voicelines, etc. D4 feels like it gave some teenager control to make a mode with zero monetary support.
I don't exactly understand what everyone is expecting out of an endgame or a seasonal activity in a hack and slash ARPG. It's gonna be a form of hack and slash and people will just call it the "same old shit". That's it. That's the game. Maybe it's not the genre for you?
@@habib6863 People expect poe leagues honestly. New art, textures, NPC's, lore, music, voicelines, boss's, content, uniques, core game updates and more. D4 is in a fun state, and I do enjoy it right now. But it is pretty amazing a giant company like Blizzard, puts out less than poe.
D2 over 1000 hours D3 over 500 hours D4 60 hours and uninstalled. I occasionally check in on videos just our of curiosity but always leave with a big "meh" Seriously this is it? One class for this expansion. Boring loot still. Skill trees so mediocre any fan could come up with more creative ideas in a pinch. Armor sets all boring unless you spend $ to look decent. POE2 cannot come soon enough at this rate.
@@habib6863 There's a group of people that think its some flex they rather say they barely played it. D3 was worth 500 Hours? that was trash in comparison. Maybe ARPGS are not for him.
D2, can't blame you due to nostalgia. D3 sucked and has sucked for a long time - so i don't understand how you like D3 more than D4 XD or have you not tried loot reborn? Way better than D3 by a mile.
I love d2 it's always a game I go back to and play but I'll be honest the game is actually annoying to play... All I do is start game farm a few areas, close game and repeat over and over it came to the point that I wasn't actually even playing the game but constantly refreshing maps just in hopes of getting a godly drop... Don't get me wrong I love the game but it's just annoying to play if that makes sense lol
@@updaterequired1173 Yeah, that or, you aren't getting any gear that works for your build, making progression slow and brutal. I love the game, but, some classes are more dependant on gear, making it hard to kill things if you don't have any luck.
It's been a year and they have literally added 0 content. It's just hell tide with a twist every time. Meanwhile Last epoch is adding shit ton of new content and mechanics to explore... What a fking shit show
I am hoping that this is just A game mode, and not the ONLY game mode being added into S5, but it is an odd number season, so history tells us that this season will suck.
I agree except Horde should be Horde, pit should be pit. Pit is where you push the content and inch out every bit of damage as you can as you go forward in Tiers. Rogue Lite in Dungeons is fine, but only for nightmare dungeons. Because honestly Nightmare Dungeons are so dull now and can'r even be considered an end-game feature anymore.
I'm liking the new legendary aspects that I've seen so far, I'm interested to see what they do to balance existing uniques as well as what new uniques they come up with as I haven't seen any yet. The ability to resummon a boss after defeating it is really convenient (don't spam them too fast, it bugged out on me and took the materials without summoning the boss). Unfortunately that was the limit of the pros. Damn does this seasonal event feel disappointing. This was supposed to be the _deeper_ season than season 4 and it's laughably shallower. The primer quests were shorter than the iron wolves ones, and the event itself is more like a large event you might run into while running a nightmare dungeon, _NOT_ the epitome activity for an entire season. Even if it is only a 2 month season. Not to mention how buggy the PTR is today. I get that it's a PTR and you should expect to see some bugs, but some of the mechanics, even existing ones, are completely broken. I couldn't spend obols at the purveyor of curiosities so I had to repeatedly leave obols on the ground every time I opened a Helltide chest (the most reliable source of compasses) or finish a nightmare dungeon. Said nightmare dungeons don't seem to drop compasses at all when they're supposed to. Summoned bosses don't drop compasses (I was 0/10). I was only able to get one from a tree of whispers cache and 5 from Helltide chests when I opened like 20 through 2 complete Helltides. God knows I'm not looking forward to another season where we have to live in Helltides after I ground out the rep for 8 characters in season 4. Then people are reporting having scrolls to upgrade said compasses disappear out of their bags, while I never saw a single one and they're critical in progressing past level 3 in the event. And the worst of it is The Pit is so completely and utter broken that it's an absolute abortion. You have players that normally push 90-100 struggling with 60s, while other people were reporting strolling through a 200 just to meet an invincible boss at the end. I normally farm 90s but I had to battle through a 60 for 5 minutes, then had to turn around and go back to the first level because I ran out of mobs, to then have a single elite back on the first level fill the last _QUARTER_ of my progress bar, just to spend several more minutes on the way too strong boss to die after running out of potions around 80%, then rez and annihilate the boss in under 2 seconds! 🤣🤣 Like I said, I get that it's a PTR and you expect to see some bugs, but this is such a mess that it feels pre-beta and nowhere near what you would expect from a PTR. I'll give it a day or two and see if they can apply some bubble gum and duct tape to piece it back together, but so far this is looking to be easily the most underwhelming season yet when 4 was easily the best we've seen. Blizzard never disappoints to disappoint.
They definitely should have ways for you to get compasses within the event. Kind of like getting nightmare dungeons. Otherwise it feels like you're pretty limited on how often you can take advantage of the new endgame which seems odd.
hell ya this is exactly what the game needed. stuck in a room full of buttholes all over the ground fighting the same enemies we've been fighting for over a year with nothing new
So the last two patches have been: Copy D3 greater rifts with 20 quadrillion hp bosses Copy Last Epoch’s exalted items Copy Last Epoch’s arena mode, which maybe .5% of people enjoyed?
As a fan of most games with a horde mode or waves of enemies I’d like to test it for myself to know if I enjoy it but I’ve enjoyed most games with stuff like this
When they talked about a rogue-like season before. I expected map tile sets you go down, getting powerups until you die. The farther you go the better the reward for finishing. I expected Hades but dumbed down basically. 😂 My expectations were high. That ones on me...
rofl at that explanation at the end, that's grade 1 maths, you don't need to make it sound like grade 2 or something :))) it's ultra basic, we understood after you said "you use the burning aether to chose what you get" that was enough my dude :D
