I wanted to get good at illustration fast, so instead of doing art studies and practices, I decided to just draw along with one of Ina’s stream to try and absorb some of those god-like drawing skills. This video is a brief process of my attempt at drawing along with Ina, and some tips and techniques that I’ve learned along the way.
Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Wacom Intuos Pro

As an art noob, I can only assume she merges the layers at a certain point because eventually it becomes a hassle to have to swap between many layers and remember which is for what, so she saves herself more time by just merging them once she feels confident in the current results. It leaves less room for errors moving forward, as counterintuitive as it looks on the surface.

Remember: Copying others’ art is not plagiarism unless it is posted without clearly stating that the work is not original and credits are not given. It’s actually a great practice method, especially if you’ve hit an idea drought. A good analogy I’ve heard is “The first few times you cook a recipe, you do it exactly how it’s written. When you get more comfortable you can start making your own changes.”

This channel is so underrated! I really enjoy the way you break down artworks :) In your last video, you also asked for artist recommendations. So I personally really love Ruan Jia, Feng Wei (c12), Huang Guangjian and Fenghua Zhong. All of whom often paint directly using only limited layers to amazing effect. I think breaking down some of their work would be a cool challenge. And there are a few process videos of them on RU-vid too.

2:04 Hello! I use PS to draw. I'm quite sure that Ina used here was a feature called "color lookup"! it essentially places several "filters" ontop of the image, changing the colour drastically. It is a powerful tool, as it can quickly help you set the mood for the piece, or simply build colour.
@moonshardch.4351
@moonshardch.4351 Год назад
but she use clip paint studio tho
@KitKat-sv9qp
@KitKat-sv9qp Год назад
@@moonshardch.4351 I use both programs... and while Im not too acquainted with all CSP features as I've only started using it a year ago, the quick flashing of colours she used there reminded me of Color lookup, which might have helped the artist following along keep up quicker. I've seen it common for digital artists to switch between both CSP and PS- While I personally find Clip studio better for painting and rendering, as it has a more versatile brush system, I personally believe Photoshop is better for applying colour, or changing the image's values. I believed that might have been the case with Ina here. If it isn't what Ina utilized, then let me rephrase the original comment as a recommendation of a feature that can help achieve a similar switching of "filters" to quickly change the ambience of the art you're working on. thanks for telling me !
@Ana-oc1ht
@Ana-oc1ht Год назад
@@KitKat-sv9qp I highly agree with you! I use csp to draw and color in grayscale, and ps to color and correct values. In these aspects, ps is better than csp, but not too intuitive as csp for artists.

3:58 - ina used gradient maps and a blending mode. any additional blending modes would require a merge to commit the gradient map with that blending mode to normal color. she has the ability to duplicate layers for backup but because she's her own client she can use destructive techniques.

@@miaomiiao I'm not denying that artists don't do this, but to post and speak on it publicly, there's bound to be at least some amount of backlash. What I personally experienced was that there was lot of rhetoric about originality and uniqueness in style so there was a lot of added pressure. And I'm assuming by noobs you mean internet trolls or in my pov users policing the art community on what is considered creative property. Perhaps it also depends on the intention of the artist and the viewer too, if copying is an issue of breaching creative property rights or a tool for artists to expand their creativity.

Coming from analog art (went to art school), went into digital art (self taught) a few years ago I wish there was something like your channel back then, all the techniques, tips and analysis you make are more than useful ! Seeing all the beautiful pieces of art all around the internet one can only wonder : "HOW THE F, is this made ?!" Sure, videos of said artists are posted online, but they're only showing their stuff. You're analysing / eteaching / explaining / de-mystifying the way to do it. Any intermediate artist that has their basics done, should watch your vids, even the more experimented one for exposure to other art techniques ! You an OG for making these videos. I drew along with Artgerm once and even though he provided the lineart and it was only coloring I almost broke my fingies, so props to you. We all want to be at a certain skill level to be satisfied, but will we ever be satisfied as artists? Why do we want to skip the process that's going to stay the same just higher up? Don't be like Diavolo who only wants the results. What we really need to do is earn money to support ourselves along the way. Even while I'm typing this my monkeh brain tells me "make draw fast, good art". We're all in this together but sometimes it still feels lonely. The thing that calms me down the most, is when people I admire are as frustrated as I am sometimes. Keep making cool videos amigo.

This is kinda like master studies but you can watch the master paint. Really cool! The forms and everything look really accurate! I think as Ina goes on she adds more contrast and color to her image. She starts off with a relatively grey piece and changes the colors to be more saturated, along with adding more shadows and distinct highlights. I think raising the contrast slightly and adding a few more darker shadows and highlights would really bring the practice study closer to the original. Changing both your pieces to black and white can help with controlling the value of your drawings. Thanks for sharing your findings with us!
