I tried miinimalist and dot en key sunscreens, but they were very greasy and led to a lot of sweating. Then I tried littlleeextra’s rice berry sunscreen, and I must say it’s the top choice available!

@@krissy012p having used the Australian gold sunscreen before it’s a fairly thick mouse-like formula. I personally don’t think I would’ve liked the look of liquid foundation on top of the texture the sunscreen left. I don’t know if it’s just me but it definitely oxidized on my skin and is a solid medium coverage (you may not even need foundation on top of it, I always just spot concealed)

The problem is, you put it on in the morning and go all day to see what it looks like at the end, but you are suppose to reapply every 2 hours to actually have consistent sun protection

@@brooksbutler8256 it’s dermatologist’s opinion, and what it says on the back of every sunscreen I’ve ever seen. But it’s all circumstantial. If you put it on in the morning, but don’t go outside till 3 pm, then it is necessary to reapply. If you put it on in the morning, run some early errands and then are inside the rest of the day, then it’s not necessary. But when in the sun, yes, it’s necessary to reapply if you want consistent sun protection, which I do, or I wouldn’t bother with it at all.

@@teeeff8337 ya we generally agree. Lots of people’s lifestyles doesn’t involve going outside that much. Or if they do it’s maybe before 8 a and after 5 p. Plus I am also referring to people who live at certain latitudes as well as in certain seasons, when the UV index won’t even be 3 at peak sub

Brittany, with summer travel coming up to destinations that require a ton of walking, I would love it if you could test walking shoes. It needs to be functional, comfortable, supportive, and versatile in that it looks good with jeans, pants, skirts, shorts, and dresses 😃.

Just as a heads up, you should never mix your spf with anything. It breaks down the minerals in the spf and your skin is then unable to absorb the sunscreen. Learned this from multiple dermatologists

Minerals used for sunscreen protection sit on TOP of your skin and create a barrier that reflects or absorbs UV light, preventing it from reaching your skin. They are transition metals. They do not get absorbed into your skin like chemical sunscreens.

I love that you did this! I’d recommend against mixing sunscreen with a foundation. It disturbs the sunscreen’s formulation to provide an adequate film on the skin. Makeup sponges and brushes also soak up a lot of the product, so you’re not applying the full amount to get the spf labeled on the sunscreen 😔

Funny, I have normal to slightly dry mature skin, and Australian Gold, while excellent in all other respects, is way too oily and sticky for me. YMMV, as always.

I have been wanting to try tinted sunscreen for years now, but all the videos of "wear tests" have been heavily filtered and don't show me anything honest. Re your mixing SPF with foundation. DON’T do this-it degrades the efficacy of the SPF. Any dermatologist will tell you this! I learned the hard way (more sun damage).Maybe do your UV dot test one with the full SPF and one with the mixture and note difference.

None of that matters when she’s only applying it to her face in the morning (like she did in this video) and not reapplying every 2 hours. She wasn’t protected for most of the day anyway.

Yes it states that you need to reapply every 2 hours - regardless of what the UV dot test suggests.

@@teeeff8337 True, if you're not reapplying, it doesn't matter. However, the downside is those who are watching her YT videos will think it's ok to mix/dilute SPF with foundation or moisturizer when it's not. So while shes not protected, others will take her lead and do the same.

My derm says that it depends on the order of the products. Sunscreen should be last step of skincare before makeup. Chemical sunscreen also sinks into skin while mineral sits on top. She says to use plenty of sunscreen and let it set. Reapply sunscreen throughout the day.

I noticed that you are not using enough sunscreen to get the full SPF protection that is on the bottle. You need to use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of sunscreen on your face according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

I was so interested in your final verdict b/c I, too, have combo-to-oily skin. The Australian Gold is wonderful but even the lightest shade is too dark for me. The other ones are all too oily for me. The ONLY actual matte sunscreen I've been able to find is the Ulta Tinted SPF 30, that one I don't even have to powder and it stays looking great all day. I wish it had a higher SPF rating but it is what it is. The Misscha is wonderful but if you apply enough to actually get the SPF rating, you'll look like all heck with a whole lotta product on and that's never good. BTW, applying sunscreen with a sponge or a brush will never give you the SPF rating on the label. Don't depend on those methods - 2 finger lengths rubbed in is the amount recommended. Thank you for doing this comparison test Brittany - so we don't have to!!

Hi Brittany The only drawback of the LRP sunscreen is that it only contains titanium dioxide as a filter and titanium dioxide does not cover the full range of UVA unfortunately. So one cannot rely on this sunscreen alone .

Awesome video! My absolute favorite is the Australian gold light. I have very oily skin and this one stays matte throughout the day. It's Completely waterproof. I have to use an oil cleanser to get it off at night. The sun protection is excellent. The price point is so helpful so that you don't go sparing and actually apply an adequate amount. I use powder foundation over it for extra coverage. It usually goes out of stock in the summer unfortunately. And it's definitely not light enough for fair skin.

It’s perfectly fine to mix a foundation and a moisturizer to use over an spf,and I’ve done this for decades. The issue with mixing anything with your spf is that the efficacy goes down, but more importantly the spf will be patchy and uneven, since it wasn’t formulated in a consistent setting.

You should try Murad tented moisturizer spf and paulas choice. Both are amazing. I wouldn’t really think they would have coverage since it’s just a moisturizer not a makeup product

Almost all the rest “try” any product and recommend it based on their personal preferences, or based on the payment made by the manufacturer or merchant (nothing wrong with it, just be sincere), or based on “someone” (perhaps another RU-vidr?) telling them about a “good” product. Brittany, as we are already accustomed to, does not fill her videos with cheap verbiage, she does not “recommend” something that she “likes”, but she makes us see what works, what really works. ¿Why is it so important? because it is skin care, the skin is the largest organ of the human body, our barrier against the external world. Thank you so much for doing this for us!!! I've been completely unmoooooorrrred since Aveeno ended their tinted spf cc cream. My face has a WEIRD issue - just genetically huge pores. So soooo many mineral or just any actual makeup foundational things.... ONLY sink into my pores - and leave me looking like a micro-polka-dot MESS... it's been HORRID trying to find a replacement.... the only one that came close you ranked 2nd - the neutrogena one....... I broke down and bought the magic balm "old lady face balm" lol before watching this....... I think I'll try the LaRoche Posay one next!

The only active spf ingredient in the LRP is titanium dioxide, which protects from sunburn (short UVB rays) but not skin aging (long UVA rays).

Did you reapply at all? Any sunscreen needs to be reapplied after 2 hours at least, or like 80 minutes if you're sweating or swimming.

Great video! I really like the La Roche Posay Athelios melt in milk sunscreen, as well as the Fenty mineral sunscreen and the Kiehl's Better Screen UV serum. I really enjoy trying out new sunscreens for some odd reasons so this was a really fun video for me to watch 😁. For reapplication, I really like the Shiseido clear stick. It does not appreciably affect my makeup and it is so easy to just pop in your purse and reapply when needed. It does give a little bit of a dewy finish which can be handled with powder if you like. Reapplication is always such a complicated thing. I saw someone today using a spray sunscreen on their face from Bondi Sands. I'd be curious to know how that is, because it would be a super easy reapplication method for sure.

I exclusively DIY my own BB cream with a sunscreen, oil absorbant (milk of mag), and moisturizer. I've used Milk of Magnesia to manage my oil, which works AMAZING

Australian Gold is the answer to all my prayers. Such oily, icky skin with giant pores. I'm 59 but my face is still as oily as when I was a teenager. I've tried the new Neutrogena tinted sunscreens and the Eurcerin one. Too greasy. Australian Gold keeps winning.

It’s $$$, but I use skinbetter sunbetter. It’s a tinted spf 70 with an absolutely beautiful finish. It isn’t too orange (I’m pale so most are very orange leaning on me) and stays on all day. Looks like very light foundation. Worth the splurge IMO

If sun protection is the main concern you have to be careful. You need at least 1/4 teaspoon for you face to get the coverage on the bottle. It’s a lot more than most people think and way more than you would typically use for foundation coverage. And the two dermatologists that I follow strongly advise against mixing sunscreen with foundation since it can break down the formula and decrease its effectiveness.

I don’t understand putting retinol in sunscreen. You should only really put retinol on during the night, because it can degrade in sunlight. Even if it was encapsulated, the amount of retinol needed is a pea sized amount. For sunscreen, however, you need at least two full finger lengths to cover your face. Again, I just don’t get it. If someone can explain, I would love to hear it.

I use the fair Australian Gold and am very happy with it. I am a golfer so need an SPF that is high and lasts. It is great and reasonably priced.

I've been using the Australian Gold light to medium for approx 5-6 years, so I am glad to see it performed well in terms of protection! The price is great and the coverage is good - lasting all day. I just use some concealer in the t zone. Almost haven't worn foundation since. Plus it doesn't settle into fine lines, so I think I look younger than when I wear foundation! Would love to try to La Roche-Posay, but not really in my budget :)
