Hello lovelies,
I thought it would be fun to try Jean Harlow's 1930s Shampoo Recipe.
It is effortless to make! Jean Harlow used Kirks Castille Soap and grated it. She then mixed it with 3 cups of boiling water. Once you mix it together, you pour it into a mason jar and let it cool overnight. Jean Harlow would rub warm unscented castor oil onto her scalp before she washed her hair. I was pleasantly surprised by the results, and I got so much shampoo.

@@arturodiaz1063 Hairstylists always want to think they know the secrets to how anybody comes up with any color they get, the truth is they can only guess. My hair is platinum blonde and they would assume mine was double processed, the truth is it's natural and grows right out of my head that way. My ancestry is Swedish, German, and Dutch. She used peroxide on her hair which made it super porous. She needed the film left from the oil and Castille soap to keep her hair from frizzing and giving it a shine. I washed my hair with Dr. Bronner Castille soap once and my hair was a greasy mess and had to rewash.

I've been using dr Bronner's lavender since I was six. I haven't used shampoo since. I have dry, frizzy, curly hair so it doesn't leave my hair greasy. I could see how it could have that effect on someone who has neutral or oily hair. Olive, coconut and amla oil all are very good on dry hair. Like most Indian women I use amla oil.

I have scalp psoriasis and I will put coconut oil on my scalp before bed occasionally. The trick is to lay a towel over your pillow before you lay down that way it doesn't ruin your pillowcase. I never put it on the ends of my hair because it will usually travel down the hair shaft from the scalp anyways and it just gets too greasy and hard to remove if I add extra. Maybe try that with the castor oil next time and see if that helps. Great video. I'm definitely going to get some of the body wash. I have to do some research to see how the Castille soap would affect my scalp before making the shampoo, though. I'd love to see even more ideas from that book.

Laura, Jean Harlow was ahead of her time. She needed the Castor oil because peroxide is very drying for her hair! It will probably make a good bubble bath; as well! I purchased a bar and will make some! Loved this recipe! Thank you.. ⭐😄⭐💖

The chemicals made her hair extremely porous and everything gets soaked up....her hair dresser invented the "bottle blonde" and she was an experiment. It seriously drys out the scalp and she had "touch-ups" all the time. I've been doing this almost 30 years and it's a pain in the butt.

I use the liquid version of Dr. Bronnors' Castile soap. It is the best! I never tried the rose scent. I use the Tree Tea liquid version for my hair root and skin, especially the face mixed with witch hazel instead of water to give it more oomph. Really helps combat acne, especially adult acne and other skin disorders. Highly recommended. I also use Ponds' cold cream but very little of it afterwards to add the oils back and balance the skin. Wash it all off using Yes to Tomatoes face scrub to stimulate the skin and get ride of surface build-up from the cold cream and exfoliate the skin cells off. I've been doing this for two weeks and seen a dramatic difference in how my skin and looks. Bio-oil for morning and afternoon routines is a must and using hemorrhoid cream after at night routine 30-an hour before going to bed. Hemorrhoid cream helps with combating and preventing puffy face and eyes in the morning. Also finish every face wash using cold water. Cold water helps to close pores and wake up the skin, especially at morning. After a steam facial I wash off with warm water and finish it off with icy cold water to close everything smooth. It is incredible seeing the difference. Anyways thank you for your videos. More ladies need to know these classic tricks that still work today.

Is it great for hair ? I dress authentic 40s in my everyday life and so I do overnight et set, but my normal shampoo from Garnier I think mosturize too much my hair and so it curl less, so I wanted to try and more "natural shampoo", used in the 40s in order for hair to curl better. But is this liquid shampoo is ok ?

Pto-tip for using castile soap as a shampoo. If your hair isn't super dry (as I'm certain Harlowe's was after near constant peroxide + ammonia bleaching) you should rinse it out with a gentle vinegar. I'm allergic to a lot of soaps so I regularly turn to castile soap for personal washing. I use a 50/50 apple cider vinegar and water rinse when I use it on my hair.

I bought Castile soap at my local CVS pharmacy…they had peppermint and lavender for $3.45 each. I followed Jean Harlow’s recipe by watching your video and with just the peppermint I filled 2 mason jars and I used it this morning as a shower gel and I absolutely love this cosmetic. I haven’t washed my hair with it yet but I will when it’s time to wash it. I have read that Castile soap is not good for color treated hair because it strips the pigment. However I don’t color my hair, I get highlights which means I bleach it just like Harlow did just not as frequently so I think it will be fine. Smells amazing! Very cost effective too!
