Conceptually it invokes thought and discussion, but in practice - we already have jackets that fit better and convert into shelter. We also have ponchos that can be used like a tarp to rig a shelter. Having to carry sub-pad tent poles is just wild, IMO. It's been done before, but done better.
@@ricardoronaldo837 yep, survivalists and bush crafters are properly across this, but whilst ponchos are a no brainer, there's literally been jackets that convert into sleep systems.
This was great and well shot. Props for actually using it and showing the wear and tear. I love ISPA stuff. I would love to collect these types of releases.
The ISPA Tabi kicks are super tech but I found them incredibly tough to style with anything on my clothes rail - they go well with your 'Lunacore' fits 😎
@@ThisIsAntwon Also Kicks-watch 5:14 is that the Merrell MOAB2 sliders..? If not looking very similar, I picked some up for a song off TK a couple weeks back and they are now my 'House and Yard Winter Shoes' :o
I watch couple of your video back then and didn't watch you for some time, you're doing much better right now, looking more natural in video and edit and environment looks better, keep it up
It’s giving Mothman but make it gorpcore. It really feels they want the Final Home clout but can’t swing it creatively. I almost wonder if they should have just made ISPA a full on experimental department where limited edition creative products drop in limited quantities, which would release them from the expectations for a finalized product and generate that lovely hype they want and love, and those products that get good reviews may go back into R&D and eventually even production. Just the premise of being “let in” on the design process and get your hands on what are essentially weird and funky prototypes would be so good for Nike, but instead they went with these overbranded and underbaked products that don’t have much to offer.
From Gucci x The North Face to ISPA's tent jacket, these products all seem to cater to the idea of camping, without actually serving anyone remotely interested in hiking or camping. It's an odd thing, especially since Nike has a lot of experts in functionality and worked with people like Errolson for ACG. Not that I don't like experimentation - quite the opposite - but this "exercise just doesn't seem to serve an end goal. I've also bought a few ISPA items in the last years and the quality is always "aspirational, but not there". Their latest vests felt very plastic, the tabi toe sneakers you showed had a very narrow opening to put your feet in and while I hoped ISPA to be the new Errolson type ACG label, it's just not it.
In its current form I think you're right, the Metamorph isn't going to appeal to anyone genuinely wanting to use it for camping (although you can keep it stored in the bag at which point it's a perfectly serviceable 'day-tent'). It feels like a first-gen product, where maybe in future Nike or someone else will iterate or improve on the concept to something that feels more legitimately functional - Nike have shown that it's possible, but it's up to someone else to show that it's practical. Totally agree on the drifters, they are weirdly hard to get your foot in. That and the difficulty in styling them are their main downsides imo, I think the tabi shape works pretty well.
@@ThisIsAntwon Absolutely. I still wear them regularly and I think with the regular fit borro pants from Maharishi, it works. I'm also very happy that we are still seeing experimentation from a brand like Nike. The question I'm posing: should such a big company bring out experiments / first drafts for these prices? Frankly, you could make a comparison to Cyberpunk 2077 and how CDPR brought out a "first draft" to the public. We wouldn't want the fashion industry to turn into the gaming industry, because you can't patch a garment (well... you get what I mean haha - sorry Junya Watanabe).
i have a tent-like cabana i love taking to festivals but its not exactly on the most approved list this would be a cool alternative to that and be easier to pass security if i would look a bit odd.
The Drifter Gaiter felt VERY close to something in the "niche innovation" department, but never considered their demographic: cyclists. A lot of cyclists have specific shoes to go with their bike and you couldnt reasonably have your cycling shoes AND the drifter gaiter as someone who might actually WANT to protect their legs while cycling. Little details like that have always made ispa more "wow thats cool" and not "gotta get that"
Interesting concept. I wonder if introducing tailoring would help. I also think adding more pockets for actual camping gear might bring it more into full “ass-ing” this concept. The Nike ACG line has def not been doing it for me for a while.
I'm sure if you were willing to increase the complexity of the transformation you could shape it into a more conventional-looking and performing jacket, there is a lot of material to work with after all
i ended up getting a pair of the drifter split for $80. I had to get used to them but I wore them the last couple days on a hike and they are so comfy if your gonna wear them for awhile and super annoying to put on. I just got the metamorph vest and it has some really really cool mad scientist, zelda shiekah tech vibes to it that i fw a lot. I had seen bluekros wear it and thought it was insane. I also saw the vest and jacket that have this kinda diving suit vibes to it. Im planning a fit with the vans vault boot scoot lx but ISPA line is severely underrated. I just started getting into techwear this year and its been super fun.
2:38 kinda, most people weren’t on the dunk hype until the pandas in 2021. I remember quite vividly getting SB’s on sale in 2020 (I have receipts for the Jade Ivory Low , Baroque high and the Mahogany low, all bought in 2020 all 15-45% off.) In fact I remember before the stangeloves came out and I had 3 skate shops all reserve me my size, no one had an issue as no one knew if they were going to sell 😂 People have only given those accolades (incorrectly the chunky’s and the Travis are atrocious) to the 2020 dunks in hindsight. The average sneaker enthusiast in 2020 was still looking at Yeezy 350’s and Jordan 1 highs. The road warrior wasn’t really that mental, it sold out in every colourway almost immediately and I saw my size trade at meets for more than the Travis Dunks during 2020.
this feels like a very "fashion industry" execution of a poncho tent. I've recently been using a Six Moon Designs Gatewood Cape, and it is such a different, and I would argue better execution of a similar idea.
I feel like because Nike has always been more of a hype marketing brand they can’t do collabs which feel authentic and novel like adidas with Rick Owens or Y3. Their Rick collabs specifically offer something you can’t get from other Rick shoes and can’t get from adidas, while things like the Nike bodes offer something you can just get from bode, minus Nike branding
Kinda reminds me of what PAF does aesthetically, very much influenced by the functionality that we could potentially need in the near future, not necesarilly what we need now
I’m a big fan of this multi-purpose concept for clothes when it’s done right. Though I wonder how many will ever be used as a tent even once. This also piqued my interest in ISPA, curious what this’ll lead to.
Not sure if I am the only one, but I keep having quality issues with ispa shoes, including but not limited to Anglet breaking (isap react low, sense flyknit), insole pierced (ISPA joyride enveloppe)
The face fabric is really cool, very weighty and structured so it feels like a pretty indestructible jacket. Tbh though if you already have the J1B-GT they're pretty similar, so you might find you'd get more wear out of a different model with a different look/featureset (or at least a different material as you say)
11:42 this data appears to be inaccurate, Anta are the second largest athletic goods manufacturers with profits at £47.23 billion. Anta have out performed Nike in China for years now and will probably eclipse them in profits sometime in the next 2 financial quarters.
I think a better test is to walk around the city wearing it while pushing the rest of your gear in a shopping cart or garden cart. Then set up at sunset in a city park. I believe this is the market they wish to reach, but the price point is wrong.
man the ispa gang on their way to fuck the shit out of this industry got my olive mindbodys a few weeks ago and these things fing rocks I love them so much
Just another trend-driven influencer-targeted concept taken straight out of a catwalk. This is not innovation and definitely not sustainability. It's completely wrong and gets worse the more I think about it. How often you'd wear it? Why is it white if you're supposed to put it on dirt? How do you wash it? Innovation comes from new and better materials, cheaper ways to manufacture them, more comfortable patterns, hardware that's easier to operate... Sustainability has to be systemic road to make less goods, of better quality, with no trends, made in fair conditions... ISPA is just glorified fashion student projects.
You dont need 4 walls for camping if the climate is good, there are no high ammount of mosquitoes and your sleeping bag is rated for the temperature. Ive camped without tent a few times :) its called vivac. Some roof to protect you from humidity is more than enough in chosen situatiobs
This kind of stuff reminds me of crypto bros. "Researching" and "exploring applications of technology" while solving problems that don't exist and don't actually contribute to any actual scientific discovery
