As someone who lives in west Virginia, the pepperoni rolls are what wives made their husbands in the mines. The pepperoni roll was a quick, cheap, and easy way to make food given the circumstances.
As a Rhode islander coffee milk is not actual coffee, it's made with coffee flavored syrup made here. Also i always imagined it to be Rhode island style calamari or stuffies

Oven roasted with garlic and herbs, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, mashed with either savory herbs or butter and brown sugar, pumpkin bread or gnocci......so many ways to enjoy an extremely nutritious, relatively inexpensive food. Easy to grow, too. If you have some space.
