Something really interesting to look into is the correlation between fasting and mitochondrial biogenesis! I would never be able to keep up intermittent fasting long term as my schedule and life doesn't really allow it (I work a physical labor job and love the gym, so ya girl needs the cals), but I have found a major improvement in my digestion and overall clarity over the long run by just doing a 12/12 schedule (12 hours eating, 12 hours "fasting" - although it doesn't feel like fasting because the eating period is so big). I don't know if the culture surrounding IF necessarily vouches for this in particular, but allowing time for your body to get into rest and digest mode is something we often don't pay attention to. Thanks for always being so unbiased and educational, I always love watching your videos and feel like I've come away more educated and not so much like a RU-vid zombie.

For anyone who want to do IF I highly recommend to consult with gastroenterologist before doing it. If you have any problems with digestive system like gastritis, stomach ulcers, cholestasia it can made things worse. The best plan for your stomach health will always be eating small portions often so that the intervals between each food consumption will be less than 7hours. Sorry for my bad English, it's not my native.

I've been doing intermittent fasting for 5 months now and have found that it is easier to skip breakfast altogether rather than just trying to jam 3 meals into a short window. I'd recommend anyone doing IF, start eating later in the day than 10AM. Also, don't be so strict about the start and end times. If you have a late dinner planned one day, start eating later in the day. You don't have to eat in the same time window every day.

I’ve been doing IF for about ten years now, without realizing what it was until it became “popular”. I stopped having breakfast when I was about 19 because I just didn’t feel hungry in the morning and I quickly realized my body responded very well to it, I used to feel bloated and lethargic when I had breakfast and since I was not hungry anyway and was just eating because that’s what you’re “supposed to do” I decided to start skipping breakfast and see how I felt. It worked wonders for me, I feel like my body was not happy being forced to digest food so early in the day and giving it a few hours to wake up and get going really helped with my digestion and energy levels!

You don’t need it to be so strict, you should be more flexible with the hours, don’t necessarily have to do 10-6 can push back and do 12-8 if you have a meeting or do 9-5 if you want to eat earlier. Even a 10-12 eating window has been shown to produce same benefits in the research!
@fairyfreak1
@fairyfreak1 5 лет назад
But you need to be consistent with the time. The fasting period needs to be at least 16 hours, so if you’re doing 12-8 one day and then 9-5 the next you wouldn’t reach the 16 hour fasting period.

@annamcentee2300
@annamcentee2300 4 года назад
Your eating window didn't need to be the same every day, especially if you're willing to shorten it a couple hours. There's nothing that says you must eat for the whole 8 hours, and most people over time end up tightening their window naturally. Plus, you are technically in the fasted state usually after 12 hours, though it varies from person to person and based on the volume you ate the day before. The problem with only trying IF for 7 days I'd that it is almost never enough time for the body to adapt to metabolic flexibility. It takes time, sometimes even a month or two for the body to sufficiently empty boy bookstores enough to where you're in ketosis

For me, IF only ever worked short term (tried it several times). My body always caught on pretty quickly and ‚made‘ me eat more later in the day. I would even get cravings and overeat after a while...I‘ve heard, that it can seriously mess with your leptin regulation, if you do it longterm, especially as a women. Would love your opinion on that...there’s science‘ on that topic, but I‘m not the best at figuring all that out...I just heard about it in podcasts and such. I eat almost 2000 calories daily now and I've noticed better changes this way. I used to fast and restrict and it slowed my metabolism ultimately. Wishing you the best🙏🏼

Thank you so much for sharing! I love how you show that IF isn't for everyone and that's okay. I personally follow IF loosely and eat two really large meals a day - without worrying about the timing - and this works awesome for my digestion and energy. Again, all about finding what works best for you and your body

After years of experimenting with different intermittent fasting timings, I've found that an 'early time restricted' eating window seems to work best for me. It aligns with our circadian rhythm and I think, that from a biological perspective this could also be a better match with the cycling female body. The cortisol spike in the morning is not prolonged by postponing breakfast, which is important, as increased cortisol can create problems for the female endocrine system. Then, during the day the body is being fed all it needs between 3 nourishing meals and then from this fed (/'safe') state the eating window can be closed around say 6 or 7 pm. If breakfast the following morning is between 7 and 9 that gives 12-14 hours of fasting. An occasional longer fast can easily be achieved by skipping dinner every so often if desired (just not in the week before the period starts as progesterone is easily disregulated by stress). Bonus is that going to bed with a relatively empty stomach is might do wonders for sleep ☺️

hey sweetie! ☺️ thank you, it's true he's always making me laugh so I can't help but chill out! 😂 That's a good question, I guess for me the biggest risk to that is overthinking and I just combine the pattern interrupt technique I talked about back in the day, and then just trying to stay around things that give me perspective on how unimportant the things I get stressed about are 🤗 those would be my biggest two tips!

I’ve been doing IF for a couple of years now and I love it. As a scientist I’ve read the literature and I’m very convinced of the benefits, I really hope you do a video on it! Furthermore it works really well for my lifestyle! I vary from 16/8 to 20/4 depending on the day. I will say it takes a month or so to really adjust. I would recommend pushing your breakfast time back by 30 min every week until you get to the full 16/8.

For someone thats so intuitively in tuned with your body, maybe IF wont show as much impact! Especially when you know and get the energy and hunger cues. Personally, it has helped so much for my digestion and funnily enough, to help with my binge eating. Which seems to be quite common for many people

IF actually works great for me because I sometimes binge while rushing through hw at night. IF prevents me from binging since I can’t rly eat at night, and my lazy ass doesn’t like preparing food in the morning either. Not too big of a commitment for me personally.

Hi Natacha! I've been doing IF for a year now, and I find it helpful in my case: I used to binge a lot, especially in the afternoon, and now I have decreased significantly my BED episodes. I started with a 12 hours window the first week (11 am to 21 pm), and the narrowed it down to 13 am to 21 pm. Actually, now I'm just skipping breakfast and I prefer that, because I can eat more for lunch and in the afternoon, and I feel more satisfied this way. I really love your channel and find it very informative, but maybe trying IF just for a week isn't enough - my fist week was the worse LOL. I needed a couple of weeks to get used to it. However, I know that there are things that don't work for everyone, and that's ok. It's not a critic, just my personal thought. Love you!

It's interesting how different it is for different people. After starting IF I almost never think about food. And I noticed that I'm eating only when I'm *actually* hungry, not when I'm bored, sad or stressed. I also started craving healthier food which is absolutely crazy for me. But then again I always HATED breakfast and noticed that if I ate it I would eat more later in the day. But I guess it's really not for everyone

Cool video! So I prefer to do IF by skipping breakfast and just eating lunch at around 12:30pm or 1pm and then dinner around 7:30pm to end the window at 8pm. That way I workout during my eating window around 6:30pm or 7pm because I hate working out hungry. Looking forward to your science video!

Now I have no rules and eat in accordance to my hunger cues 🤗 Honestly cannot wait for your new guides, the hypertrophy one sounds RIGHT up my street and will be purchased immediately 💃 It's the closest thing to actually being able to train with you 🙌😩 Thanks for this vid Natacha xx

Some people only start eating at 1pm 😊 however, a lot of people I know who practice intermittent fasting don’t stick to it religiously. If they want to go out for dinner with friends every once in awhile, they go and then just start again the next day 🌸

It took me about 6 weeks to really start to adjust to the fasting time. It wasn't easy at first, especially in the evenings (I used to snack a LOT in the evenings), and I'd often find myself watching the clock for when I'd "get to eat", but now after about 5 months, it's much easier. It also helped learning how to make sure that I not only ate healthy meals, but also got in enough fat and protein (from various sources) for my body, but also for satiety. It made a huge difference! It's also important, when starting or considering IF, to learn the benefits outside of weight-loss (which I assume is what motivates most people). There are many ways your body benefits, from giving your body a chance to stop digesting and focus on everything else. It's pretty fascinating, actually!

My experience with IF (last yr for 3 months) was almost exactly the same! I felt like I was thinking about food 10x more than when I wasn't on IF! Its stressful trying to plan your workday, meetings, when to train, and evening social plans. And I agree, deadlines get me focused way more than fasting :P if you do do a science based video on IF, I'd be interested in your thoughts on prolonged (~72 hr) fasts :) PS. CAN'T WAIT FOR YOUR NEXT TRAINING GUIDES!
