I really don't know, what your reading style is or what books you like, since that's the first video of yours that I have watched, but still, I struggle with that dreaded reading slump myself and I also know that feeling of picking up average books and feeling kinda meh about it. So, here is a tip for you that helped me + a short list of books that fit my advice and and at least for me rekindled the love for reading: The advice itself isn't much of a spectacle, it's rather simple - start reading shorter books first. Sounds silly, I know, but here's why: At least from my experience my other hobbies like gaming really messed up my attention span and my sense for gratification. So by reading shorter books I managed to get done more in a shorter time and don't feel as pressured as I'd say by reading Tolstoi's Anna Karenina or something. This method is about slowly building a habit and making progress in little steps and getting small accomplishmends along the way. And here is a short list of books, that left me with a sense of wonder and the desire to read more again: Susanna Clarke: Piranesi Haruki Murakami: Sputnik Sweetheart Oscar Wilde: The picture of Dorian Gray Banana Yoshimoto: Sweet hereafter Yoko Ogawa: The memory Police Again, that's just something that helped me, but I really hope, that I could help someone and remind people that there's no shame in reading shorter books. EDIT: Just a second tip that helped me - carry a book with you, espacially when you're someone, who relies a lot on public transport. Often whe are too distracted when we try to read at home, so try to sneak in a few pages whenever you've got some downtime. Some people find it heard to focus while being on the road, but I manage to sneak in around 20 or more pages on my bus rides.
i actually found your advice sooo helpful! it may be obvious or simple for some but i definitely needed to hear it! also thank you so much for your recommendations, dorian gray is my favorite classic along with frankenstein so i'm very interested in trying out the other books that you mentioned! thank you so much for taking the time to write this!
@@throneofpages I am really happy that I could help you! And about the books: Well, they don't really have all that much in common except for the lengh, so maybe they might not be quite to your liking. Heh, it's always a bit risky to recommend something to someone you don't really know, so I am both a bit excited you want to check those out and worried you won't like them😅
honestly i think even when you do know someone, recommending a book is always going to be scary because you don't want them to be disappointed by the book that you told them to read, so it's always nerve-wracking but don't worry!! i'll keep an open mind uwu
for me it's the pressure to hyperconsume. It has my neck, i tell you. I recently brought 4 books to a two hour road trip just to read 3 pages and fall asleep. Theres so much to read that it becomes overwhelming
@@MadeleinesMadeleines For a reading slump u just need to calm and let it be. Read Manga, illustrated books, graphic novels, middle grade books (short). And so you slowly will fall again for reading. It helps me so much.
@@CURTAINS_ don’t think about reading in terms of finishing a number of books. Think about it in terms of time, like devote 30 minutes to reading everyday. The reason you shouldn’t think about it in terms of books is because some books are longer so you obviously won’t read as many, also people read at different speeds and some people like to annotate do it’s gonna take longer for them to finish. Also something that gets me out of a slump is rereading a favorite book or a book I gave 5 stars and than write after I finish it I grab a new book because momentum helps. And if your reading a book you really love you’ll probably end up reading more time than that anyway. Also, if you don’t like a book after reading a third of it, don’t finish it. There are so many books out there and not a lot of time to read them, so don’t waste time reading a book you don’t really like. Read a third of it at least though because sometimes books get better as they go but if you do and you still don’t like it, move on to a different book. Hope that made sense!
@Chanely Miceli Nardi lol and all my library books are due for return and I’m there crying abt it. I waited 1 month to get six of crows and haven’t even read 2 chapters lmaoo😭
@@deborahbello1631 I started six of crows in June and I’m about to complete it. Given that I’m a really really slow reader, 2 months for this book I think is good. It’s a really great book and I haven’t read any book as good as this (till now). I’ll definitely suggest reading it when you’re free and trust me the chapters are so good with a lot off plot twists. Just try to read one chapter each day and you’ll finish it!! ✊🏻
I totally understand the struggle of having so many hobbies. One always suffers! You did great with this challenge def made me want to try to read 100 pages a day. Doing a challenge where we pick the books sound so fun. 👾
This is probably a sign for me to finally start my reading list again because this reading slump that i am in is literally a whole struggle but this challenge looks very fun to do and it gave me a lot of motivation
literally i've been in a reading slump this since june 😭 i've read a total of 2 books since then, and i usually read 4-6 a month. i'll try doing this challenge in order to get me out of my slump.
I'm definitely going to have to try this challenge. As even though I'm reading it's taking me a long time to get through even short books. Think my brains forgotten how to read anything that isn't for my degree
Every time I’m in a reading slump and I watch your reading vlogs especially the ones you’re challenging yourself in I get so much motivation to read so I start reading and I get out of a reading slump so thank you so much for doing these vlogs🥺❤️📚
Okay it's a struggle when u read, watch k drama, anime and play genshin and its hard to choose from what to do next😭😭😂😂 That coat definitely suited u....omg the emoticons from the server!!! And the burning God confusion is real!!! Love the detailing of ur video always... Really motivates me to read 100 pages per day!!👾👾
I love you 🥺👉👈 finding the balance between all of my interests has been SO HARD but also so fun??? It’s an infinite struggle 😩😩 ahh I’m so happy you enjoyed!! Thanks for staying until the end 💛
This 100 pages reading challenge seems like a pretty reasonable way to start a reading habit, in comparison to the 24 hpur readathons, but maybe that's just me! 🧑🏽🏫 Great video, but hope you don't burn out from all the challenges! Keep up the good work!
i agree with you! this challenge is more about building a sustainable habit instead of reading as much as you can. I also feel like these reading challenges are doing the opposite of burning me out, they're actually inspiring me to try out new things and find more ways of making reading fun!! (n˘v˘•)¬
This is the most relatable video I have seen in a while. I have been lacking on my reading habits and turning to new excites such as kdramas, anime’s, new music groups, etc. I have been feeling distant from my books and I miss the feeling of getting excited about character development in books and actually finishing a book; feeling proud of myself after I finished the book. This video is actually giving me inspiration to do a similar challenge, so thank you ! 💙💙💙
you're so very welcome 🥺👉👈 it's nice to know that i'm not the only one going through the same struggle! if you do end up doing this challenge i would love to know how you did, and also which books you read 👀💛
When I'm too distracted or not in the mood of concentrating on reading, I listen to an audiobook. It helps because it really supports multitasking. I can clean, do house chores, text, shop while listening to a book! And as someone who has seasickness "getting dizzy in any means of transportation" It helps spend time during long rides! I'll leave the fact that it helps my language since English isn't my main. So what I'm trying to say, try audiobooks, you'll find yourself getting things done, and when you feel like it you can turn on the page and read while listening!
You give me the motivation for picking up my hobbies again (books, anime, games etc) so thank you for that 🥺❤️ also love your video as always! Ps. What kdrama where you watching? 😳
Stop, your editing is always so cute ☺️ Lmfao the emoji/meme inserts😂 This came at the perfect time, because I’ve been feeling meh about reading. So, I’m definitely going to try this👀 You definitely should be proud of yourself!🥰👾
Finallyyy someone I can relate to!! I had this huge reading slump and got too busy with kdramas, kpop and all that jazz lol. I really want to re-discover my love for reading and this video really motivated me to start 🥰👾
I’m so happy to hear that!! If you read any good books hit me up 👉👈 my next challenge definitely needs to be “finding my new favorite book (or any book that’s I’m not a 2 star 💀)
That's cool ! I haven't pick up a book for like 2 or 3 months. A lot of unexpected things are happening in my country like people are murdered by militaryCoup, Covid thirdwave and also personal stuffs. It's not like I am depressed but I wasn't able to read a book for too long without getting bored and tired. Also I'm familiar with Booktube and watched people doing these kinds of challenges but idk why I find your video motivating. Thank you. I am going to try it out 💕
First time I have seen a challenge like this, and it's such a good idea! Definitely gonna give this a try as I'm quite a few books behind on my 52 books this year challenge
Been in a reading slump since Feb. It's brutal. Only been watching Anime and scrolling through Tik tok but I picked up Dune today and actually managed to read 70 pgs in one sitting and I'm loving it. Hope it will end this slump
wow I'm so inspired to do this rn! I'm on a 3 weeks rest from work and I honestly can't find the balance between reading and binging anime 🥴 I really enjoyed this video! thank you isa
A 3 week rest sounds so good right about now 😩😩 maybe you can try the animedoro method where you watch one episode of anime, switch to read 50 pages of your book and then go back to an anime episode 👀👀 I’m so happy you enjoyed 🥺 thank you so much for watching!!
I LOVE this challenge idea so much!! I think I want to try it out myself because preparing for college has left me with so many little tasks to complete, and I'd love to make specific time for reading! Really enjoyed this video
This was on my feed and I enjoyed watching you so much! When you were flipping through Burning God to see when the chapter ended but it kept going, I couldn’t stop laughing HAHAAHAH 👾
oml i'm so happy you found my channel, here's a heart for all your trouble ♡✧( ु•⌄• ) first video and you already stayed until the end??? you're a real trooper T___T have a wonderful day!
I do understand your feeling after so long in a reading slump (like, I've just finished my finals) and to get back to reading, I need a mind-blowing book for starters. To get into 100 pages of a book you are not enjoying but want to keep the pace, is difficult. And, taking breaks is okayyyy, no harm done (especially when you're reading non-enjoyable books) but KEEP GOING GIRL! LEVI MUST BE PROUD!!!
I love this intro! Omygosh! You look so pretty! 😍😍😍 I love your blazer (or shirt)! 😍😍😍 Omygosh! Look at your mug with the little cat! I love! 😍😍😍 Yeah, I feel like reading 100 pages can sound so simple in your head…but sometimes it’s really hard. I’m struggling to physically read right through here too. It’s like a snails pace. I’m trying to get my mojo back tho! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 I’ve been gaming & listening to audiobooks while I play…so I’m still reading…but I miss being able to really physically read. Yaaay! You finished! 🥳🏆🏆 Awww! The Powerpuff Girls! 🤗🤗🤗 Well, it was great to watch you complete your challenge! 🥳🥳🥳 Yaaayyy! I hope your having a lovely day & I’m wishing you a wonderful week! 🤗✨✨ Love you! 🥰🥰🥰 Happy Reading! 🤓📚✨
You’re so sweet 💖🥺💗 I’m so happy you enjoyed! I actually haven’t tried listening to audiobooks while gaming, maybe I should try that soon 👀 I hope you have the best week! 💖
I'm literally just emerging from a two year reading slump. It helped to listen to audiobooks first, which really cracked down on my tbr list. Now I'm back to reading on my Kindle and reading paperbacks like I used to before I graduated high school. What kills it for me is reading a book for a class in uni, knowing that I have a strict time limit because I'll have to write an essay on it as soon as I finish
i found your video in the PERFECT moment bc i'm in a reading slump right now 😭 is so much easier to just watch a kdrama or anime or play genshin for a few hours, while reading i need to get in the mindset and my attention span has been shitty since last month. especially bc of work, it swallows my entire day and then to read at night i feel too tired, i read two pages and fall asleep. you inspired me and i'll try this challenge with 50 pages a day and maybe try to slowly make the goal bigger.
Yay, a 40 minute long video from Isa, I‘m so excited to see if the challenge worked! If it works, i shall try to do this as well! Stay happy and healthy and make sure to keep making lots of typos on discord so i can keep taking screenshots to frame them! 🥰
STOOOOP HAHAH DO NOT EXPOSE MY SPELLING MISTAKES I'M ABOUT TO GET MY MASTER'S DEGREE :MADDOGE: 🏃♀️🏃♀️💨 but i hope you enjoy the challenge and try it out for yourself!! it was really fun to see where i could go if i pushed myself and it felt very exciting uwu
I’m need to fall back in love with reading too. I’ve been reading like 4 books a month for the past many months and I hope I can pick up my reading before the summer ends
it needs to be said you're a queen of video editing!!! i swear there's just something so special about your videos that got me hooked! it's a bummer i can't watch them as soon as you upload because i am now employed, but i know you're always there for me to unwind
6 months late, but your channel and this video especially is exactly what I needed - I've been in a sort-of-slump for almost 2 years now, reading less then 10 books a year. I've now divided my 100 page goals, and I'll start my own challenge tomorrow :D thank you so much!!
1- Girlfriend that outfit in the first scene- i'm in love. 2- This vlog is one of my favorite so far, it was so interesting and motivating! I'M PROUD OF YOU
I'm glad you enjoyed the book! I also went in with the book without knowing anything and really enjoyed it! I love that you're incorporating so many of the discord's emojis lol Great editing! Love it!
I don’t think you should be disappointed with reading x amount of pages every month, I think you should give yourself time and space if you’re not feeling happy with your hobby, just read what you can and if you don’t feel like reading, that’s ok. The way I see it is: if it starts to feel like a chore, don’t do it. Give yourself time and space, it’s ok, it’s natural.
Thanks for this video, I'm going to do this challenge next week , because I'm facing the same things I watch K-drama more than reading books and I really want to fall in love with reading again, so I will do it
really gonna try and do this because I’m in a huge reading slump:((( my recent reads have also been 3-2 stars ps: where was your livestream for one last stop/ your buddy reads in general?
Best of luck 😭😭💛 if you read any good books, let me know 👀 I have a discord server where we host watch parties, buddy reads and we have the liveshow right there too 💛✨
I related to this so much, since the beginning of the year Ive fallen in love with kpop and Kdramas and I ended up stop reading and being more involved with other interests and Im trying to get my love for reading back also!
It feels so good to know that I’m not alone 😭 maybe trying out some reading challenges will get you back to reading 👀 best of luck to the both of us uwu
I love your videos so much! Great job getting through this reading challenge! 👏🏻💗 I also want to find a balance between reading and kdramas, movies, games, kpop, etc. it’s so hard but we will do it someday ! XD
I’m so happy that you enjoy them 🥺👉👈 finding the balance is definitely a boss fight but I’m slowly leveling up so hopefully one day I’ll get to Bowser’s castle 😭
I'm so glad that i just discovered your channel because your hobbies are pretty same like mine, so i'm looking forward for more contents like this. Hope you have a nice day and stay healthy❤
You'd be the only teacher I'd take notes for (coming from a future English teacher) I wanna fall back in love with reading but it's difficult when you're reading the wrong classics ._. (Aka Wuthering Heights😭)
PLS PUT WUTHERING HEIGHTS DOWN YOUNG LADY; if you want to keep trying classics i would recommend jane eyre or a modern classic, the secret history 👉👈 you can always go back to wuthering heights but DON'T LET HER GET THE BEST OF YOU :maddoge:
I have 2 weeks off of work so I'm gonna do this challenge, I'm behind on my reading goals and need the motivation.😳🥰 And I wouldn't mind having you as an english teacher, those vibes! 👌👾
Can't even imagine how fast one should read to complete 100 p a day (especially if you annotate in process, or get distracted, or take rest). A few years ago I tried reading 50 because I had a HUGE book, like, 900 pages or so, and it took more than and hour. Two, I would say, but not quite sure now. So, this challenge would take too much time which is unreasonable. I personally would start at 10 pages, and then mb would rise stakes to 20p and so on, if needed and if you feel like it. But it's me, a person how just fed up with reading so many years ago, that I assume making myself read this much pages would drive me insane and turn away from reding even more. What helped me is when I tried putting time goals. Like, I read for 20 minutes, that's it. If I want to read more, it's great, if I don't - I don't push myself. It didn't get me through many pages, but at least something! And I could manage to do it everyday. A nice habbit when you're also a writer, tbh. So, that's was just my experience, and I'm happy that this challenge was successful for you. That's great that the challenge helped you and you managed to complete it! Congratulations!
Thank you so much!! Lately I’ve implemented a daily time goal instead of a page goal and I’m reading 30 minutes every day which gets me reading 50 pages or more, depending on how much I’m enjoying the book 💓
7:18 IS THIS 18 AGAIN?!!! Omg I’m crying. This is literally one of the best kdrama i‘ve ever watched along with my mister of course. Love it so so much.
lol I think I'm commenting too much but YOUR EDITING SKILLS OMG... also I totally related when you said your amount of reading went down after watching kdramas... same sis.. and 18 again omg!!! the drama that got me into lee do hyun :')
isa omg is we living the same life?? 😫😫 i can't read more than 10 pages because I'm distracted with something else. sick and tired, como dirian los bts, of reading 2 starts book, like WHERES MY TASTE⁉️⁉️⁉️ currently reading one last stop and I'm 🤏 close to dnfing that shit because NOTHING IS HAPPENING,,,, I'm done with this mediocre reading
i don't know if you've read it, but the warcross duology absolutely blew my mind and i cant stop thinking about it. i think you'd really enjoy it and each book is only like 350 pages
