This is literally me as well! Same goes with writing. Sometimes for a month or two I’ll write almost every day then I’ll spend almost a year not writing a damnnnn thing. And I finished my first novel at 17. Haven’t finished a single story since then. 😭
Yes, I wouldn’t even read one book in a month but then read 7 books in one week, and its not even like my scheduale and school work amount is different.

The grandmaster is demonic cultivation is originally posted as a web novel with about 1000 pages so it kinda makes sense that it’s slow in the first part. I really recommend continuing it if you’re up to it, it gets better and better. Also, the official translation wasn’t really done well which was really disappointing 😭😭 the fan translation was wayyyyy better

Same here though. I’ve got 4 books that I’m currently reading and I just can’t be bothered 😭. If I started reading now (at 13:28) I could probably get 2-3 of them read but I just… can’t be bothered 😢

Good luck ! It's nice to set goals for yourself! My only advice is make sure you read when you're not too tired, maybe try when you notice you're getting distracted on your phone ^-^ have a nice day!!
@@laobozu549 another suggestion is don’t be too strict on yourself. Well yourself to read when you’re in the mood and don’t force yourself. Enjoy reading and finish a book at your own pace. But make sure the books always with you so when you are motivated you can read. sorry I meant to say let not well yourself
I have a goal of reading 100 pages every single day, but if i'm really enjoying the book i will read more. i am currently reading "the prophet of yonwood" (book of ember #3).

to be honest, kudos to anyone who got into mdzs through the translations, before the donghua and the drama came out. Y'all were in the trenches fr fr 😂 I recommend watching the donghua (animation) first! It organizes the chapters of the novel in a way that makes more sense tbh, and it's more fast paced than the drama which takes forever to get to the point (don't get me wrong, it's enjoyable anyways, and it kinda canonizes a fan-theory that had been brewing for years 👀, so it's fanservice even though it lacks on-screen romance)

I totally get how you felt at the beginning. I have so many books to read yet I just get stuck in the void and watch TV for hours. I am slowly trying to get into my TBR list listening to audible books on libby walking to work. That has helped me get out of my rut.

If you can't get into the novels I would still highly reccommend the untamed or the anime for grandmaster of demonic cultivation. It might be easier for someone who is just starting with mxtx's work.
Personally, I don't like The Untamed. Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grand Master of Demonic Cultivation) is my favorite fantasy, along with Tian Guan Ci Fu (another fantasy by the same author), but my first contact with her work was the Mo Dao Zu Shi anime which, in my opinion, is an adaptation much better (and faithful) than The Untaimed. The book starts really slow and I probably read the series at an incredible speed because I already knew the story from the Anime... Since you're in an Anime phase, look for Mo Dao Zu Shi to watch. You have the full story in an adaptation that's pretty faithful to the books.
"My mind was just not in it- I was like I just wanna binge anime" it's so relieving to see someone else going through the same mentality as I am. I've neglected so many of my hobbies while studying architecture and now I'm like an empty vessel trailing from place to place. I was thinking that perhaps it's not the loss of my character that I need to regain but more so a rebirth as I become someone new. I like the idea you conveyed that these parts of us are yearning to see the light again and so we have to feed them! That's nice and I think I'll put it to the test.
seeing you read Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation makes me sooooo excited omgggg lol I would recommend you to read Heaven Official's Blessing by the same author. It's their most recent work and it's my personal favorite out of the three series
Mo dao zu shi actually has a Chinese anime adaptation which I think is one of the reasons so many people enjoy that series. I heard the drama was so bad compared to the anime. May be try an episode just to feel the vibes. Idk I hope you'll enjoy it more ❤
You actually weren't far off when talking about the origin or Alice's Adventures in Wonderland! It was originally a story Lewis Carroll was telling his friends' daughters while looking after them on a trip and everything in the book is heavily inspired by their real lives, down to Alice herself - she is supposed to be an insert for one of the daughters, whose name was, you guessed it, Alice. Her sister inspired the character of the Dodo, all of the boat and water imagery is because they were on a boat at the time and so on. It's interesting to look into the story's origin and the author if you have the time because he was kind of a wacky character himself; for example, Lewis Carroll isn't even his real name and he was professionally a mathematician, not an author. In any case, I am so glad you liked the book! It's one of my all-time favorites, I've lost count of how many times I've read it or had my mother read it to me before I could read myself. First book I ever read fully in English, too.
The thing about Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation it's that for some reason it's divided in 5 vol when the story itself it's only one really big book. So reading one vol at the time might make you feel that the book it's not complete or has little plot

I absolutely adoreeee this vlog hehe! I will say, as a big fan of the series, i really recommend checking out the animated series for Grand Master of Demonic Cultivation if the novel wasn’t really your vibe! Honestly the animated series is one of my all time favorites and the animation, voice acting and dynamics in this show are SOO GOOD!
Well demonic cultivation is a slow burning story, at first many things will be uncleared but later on the real magic starts, I have not read the novel yet so I don’t know how the English translation has justified to this masterpiece, but I think you shud give it a second try, but this time try to read the Manga first, the pictorial depiction will help u with better understanding, I did the same too nd finished the whole manga in two days binge sitting, it’s readily available in manga site, but man Wei wuxian’s character is epic , he is mischievous no doubt, but very righteous in heart, on later chapters you wil understand if u read ;) ✌🏻

👑Sometimes, a book that is lovely for others will not works for you. So don't feel bad. I have been in this situation many times. Mo Dao isn't an easy book to attracted to it by first volume and it is necessary to have someone who has already read it to spoil the some part of the story to you. I know it's crazy, but i think at the first spot of reading danmei novels it works.

I totally understand if you didn't like the grandmaster of demonic cultivation (mdzs) and I'm happy you also tried watching The Untamed as well!! I fell in love with the animated (donghua) version nearly 3 years ago and have rewatched it so many times its not funny and I loved The Untamed as well (although it takes a little while to get into the story and 50 episodes is a huge commitment). But to be honest, the original novels didn't hit the same for me and I felt I was just reading until I got to my favourite parts of the story. So yeah completely understand if you didn't like it as much but still happy you gave it a go!

watching your vlogs and hearing you talk about books always makes me so motivated to read! *prepare for a my ramblings on grandmaster of demonic cultivation* although I like the author's writing style, I can totally see why you may not vibe with it. it was originally a web novel written in chinese and then traditionally published recently, and there's a lot of nuance and words/phrases/grammar that don't really translate well from chinese so a lot of the meaning can get lost and the phrasing can get awkward in the translators' attempts to provide the most accurate translation. personally, I really enjoyed the show but I would definitely agree that it's honestly pretty slow and kinda confusing at the start 😅
since i read the english translation i didn't find the show (or what i saw of it) to be confusing it's just not something i personally like 😭🤧 i'll just quietly make my exit and hope no one gets offended i didn't like their favorite adsfg 🏃♀️💨
I really feel like you should try the animated version of MDZS. It’s shorter than The Untamed, the art style is beautiful and the soundtrack is great! And you already really like anime so you might really enjoy the donghua. I watched the donghua first, and it really sucked me into the fandom! I highly recommend it!

My goal is usually 100 to 200 pages depending if I am reading one or two books at a time since I don't have a lot of time most days because I have a 1 year old and a 6 year old. I am enjoying reading Kingdom of the Wicked so far and oh my goodness Eva Evergreen Semi-Magical Witch is sooo good so far I get Little Witch Academia/Kiki's Delivery Service vibes, thanks for the suggestion.
