I HATED The Ritual as well! It barely had a plot and I was struggling to finish. It was also hard to like the main characters.

Still Beating is my absolutely favorite book. However, your criticism is what most people who don't love it feel. I do think Dean is the reason I love it so much.

I just finished reading The Ritual and I had to find otherreviews about the book because it had glowing reviews ib Goodreads and I wondered if I was the only person who didn't like it. I felt the same thing as you did. I finished the book and I still don't understand the purpose of the society, how do they get in, how are you punished, what kind of betrayals have the people died done, how do you join, etc. It was spicy for the sake of being spicy. There's also a disconnect between the female's character in the beginning and the reason why she joined the ritual. I missed the connection there. I think what frustrated me the most is when the fmc said maybe she's the toxic one because she's bringing out the bad character from Ryat. Oh wow! The whole plot frustrated me or the lack thereof.

I almost didn't finish The Ritual. The "plot" was almost nonexistent, and by the end i forgot how it tied to the beginning. such a flop. ☹

I was happy to hear your opinion of Still Beating. I’ve wanted to read it, but I was afraid to pick it up. Now I know I don’t need to worry about it.

Overall, I really enjoyed Amo Jones writing, but at the moment I am a little salty with her books. I read the first 3 books of her Elite Kings Club series and then wanted a little break from that world but loved her writing so I picked up another one of her books...Sicko. They are basically the same story with only minor differences. It feels like Sicko was written and did well so The Elite Kings Club was written with essentially the same story to capitalize on that.

The Ritual was probably one of the worst books I've ever read. Glad I took a pass on Still Beating as it sounds like tragedy porn wrapped up as a romance. Bad Saint gave me Green Arrow vibes. I kept picturing him on this deserted 🏝 "beefing up", "shooting arrows at 🥥 ". Complete with the "Eye of the tiger 🐯 " soundtrack. 🤣🤣 Not good. I've given up on Amo Jones. Most of her books are the same and just poorly done, imo. If you want good dark romance then you go to the dark diva queen 👑 Pam Godwin, Kenya Wright is also good. As is Sam Mariano, Adelaide Forrest and Danielle Lori. It is very difficult to find dark romance that is also well written.

Wow I agree with amo jones I haven’t ever read Sicko I have the physical copy but I don’t think I’ll ever read it because I read the first book of elite kings club and hated it nothing made sense and I hated it and do not get the hype of her books..

Amo Jones has the same effect on me. There is just too much. The potentional is there but Amo tries to outsmart everyone with the complicated twists that just make everything kinda nonsensical. I read first 3 books from Elite Kings series and quit. Nothing got explained the whole time, just more "plottwists" adding up over time made the story ridiculous at the end.

I couldn’t make it through 5 chapters of The Ritual. Every other sentence made me cringe. The story setup was bland, but the writing style was just borderline atrocious.
