My grandparents didn't even know what paper towels were. They lived till 92 and 101.

Something else to consider aside from the paper waste is all the plastic that paper towels come wrapped in. So using unpaper towels is saving paper and plastic.

Thats why I just use regular face towels then simply rinse them out whenever they get dirty or throw them in the laundry

I still use dishcloths. I will typically use papertowels when I need to clean up something that I do not want touching my reusable, anything. I'm talking about pet poop and urine, raw meat pieces or juice, bug spray with the dead wasp, and maggot. I absolutely do not want to rinse these out with my hand, in the sink. I don't want to touch it. I don't want to wash them in my laundry or dishwasher.

I pretty much only use paper towels for drying meat. Based on this I think I will stick to paper towels.

I made some for pennies compared to that- I really wanted some and could not see spending that much, especially not knowing how it would go- the only difference is mine aren't sewn around the edges yet- still working on that but the fabric store has tons of patterned or solid, 100% cotton flannel fabric and for relatively cheap- I think I spent 12 dollars and made tons of these in several patterns.😊

Have you used picking shears on the edges? I read they help with fraying

I mean the point of paper towels for me is to be able to throw it away! I use paper towels for gross messes. I have pets. Also, if I clean the counter after cutting up chicken or something like that. Otherwise I use dish towels and rags.
@tracywilliams5779
@tracywilliams5779 5 месяцев назад
I suggest making your own and you can make them out of different fibers depending on what you will do with it. For instance I have some microfiber rags and I hate the way they feel on my skin. I have dry skin always have had, and if it is especially dry the microfiber towels stick to my skin. Currently in my kitchen I use a dishcloth to wipe off the counter, and dish towels to dry dishes and hands. I buy the scotch Brite natural sponges with the SCRUBING material on one side, they last a lot longer than the other ones and you can put them in the dish washer to wash them. I use a lot of bleach on my sponges and dishcloths because I make my own raw cat food so I have raw chicken in my sink all the time. I am a bit of a germ a fobe so everytime I feed the cat which is at min. twice a day I clean everything used and the sink with bleach, and since I wash the cat dishes after she eats I clean her dishes and the sink with bleach at that time as well. This keeps your dish rag and sponge from smelling icky. If you make towels out of cotton or buy the floursack towels you won't have any lint, so no lint on your apple. I have stopped using terry cloth in my kitchen, I only use flour sack towels now. And I am a single woman and I can't believe the amount of paper products that I use it makes me sick, so I will be making my own napkins and unpaper towels soon, I am in the middle of organizing my sewing room, so as soon as I am done with that I will make a large amount of unpaper towels, I will only keep paper towels around for things like cat puke and other unpleasant things. Just my two cents.

I stopped buying paper towels about a year ago. I just don’t like spending money on things meant to be thrown away. I realized in my house we were using paper towels as napkins. Napkins cost a fraction of what paper towels cost so I get napkins for the table and we clean with microfiber rags.

It really depends on the initial price point on how long it takes to pay for itself. I made mine for a lot less because I own my own serger.

Considering you throw away paper towels every time you use them it would take a lot less time than a year to recoup your money, or 100 uses. So with the unpaper towels you use it, rinse it and hang it if the job isn’t bad, but paper towels your def throwing away regardless of how dirty the job is

I put most of my paper towels in with my compost and use microfiber to clean. I had 2 bags of clothes that I was going to give away but I’m going through them to keep some of the fabric for rags for my dirtiest tasks. That way I can just discard anything that’s too soiled.

I ordered some Reusables from Amazon. They are not cute, but I love them. I purchased 100 (way more than I actually need) for $32. Rather than roll, after laundering, I fold and place them in a drawer. They are very thin and very absorbent. I got them May 1, and I find I now rarely use paper towels.

My primary use for these things are as napkins. I use washcloths and old sweatshirts/shirts that I cut up for heavy duty cleaning. I’ve gotten this brand plus others, and using cloths to replace paper towels has saved me from so much waste. I used sooo many paper towels. I have a constant need to wipe every little mess as I go along, so it’s been very helpful and economical for me. I just throw them in the laundry and wash at the end of the week and fold and place them into a basket.

So, I use an old paper towel rod to roll them, then slide the bundle out, they stay together and easily slide onto a regular paper towel holder. I wash them a few at a time per loads, use a linen bag so no sifting. They don’t go into the dryer, air dry. Use microfiber cloths for cleaning and these for like moderate use, eating etc.

We keep ours stashed in a bag. I'm glad the creator made this video. I can't relate to her much, but I think that's only because I've ever lived in a home that uses a lot of paper towels. Once you're used to cloth, it's second nature. I'd recommend folks wipe with flour sack towels to avoid the lint problem.

Today, Newwiee reusable paper towels are 12.98 for 24 (41% off), 100% cotton waffle weave, so I'm going to try them. Swedish dish cloths have been amazing, but work better for wetter messes. I suggest laying the towels on top of each other in a line with a 3 inch over lap, so you can roll a whole bunch in one roll.

Ditto the "make your own". Just bought a bunch of flannel in our kitchen colors from JoAnn during a big sale before Thanksgiving. $2 for a yard of flannel, 12 towels ~ 17 cents each. I already own a sewing machine and will just run a stitch around the edge to keep it from fraying.

Great video, thanks for the in depth review. I use kitchen towels, I wash them, then fold them. Seems like a lot less work than this. They are larger and I can let one hang on my dish washer’s handle for us to wipe our hands in the kitchen.

If using a normal paper towel holder.... just place the reusable towels near the edge of worktop. That way the base of the holder can hang over the edge during rolling.

The Swedish cloths were soooooo bad for wrinkles! And they dry stiff as styrofoam! I got rid of them cause I couldn’t even store them! And the lint- is likely from OTHER cloths adhering to the flannel. Great video btw! Thanks!

Wow! Mine didn't cost anywhere near that much and came with a flannel roller to stick the first one on easily. It does take awhile to "replace" the use of a paper towel but I have also seen cotton (not flannel) towels as well so they may absorb differently.

Think of the extra water and energy that goes into cleaning these all the time. As long as I have dogs, I’ll use regular paper towels for cleaning up messes. Can’t imagine cleaning up pee or vomit with one of these and then rinsing it out and tossing it in the laundry. If you’re talking about cleaning your counter or drying your hands, any rag or regular hand towel will do for that. 😊

Un-paper for 50 years. No special purchase. Different stages of other cloth that lends itself to be a “rag” . Never tolled them. 😂. I always have a roll of paper towels just for the super ick messes (or use a rag that’s actually ready for yhe trash) 😂. Different sizes and thickness of old dish cloths and dish towels work well) or just but a 10 pack of cheapie was cloths. Yours are pretty though. ♥️

Also, when it comes to having to sort them from the laundry - just throw them into a mesh laundry bag; presto, problem solved! & To keep lint down.. don’t wash them in the same load as all the other clothes and towels!! It’s important to separate dark and light clothes as well, if visible lint on clothing is a pet peeve of yours!

It might be because he doesn’t want to do all the extra maintenance required with these towels. (I’ve recently realized that my decisions to recycle etc; it makes things much harder on others, and it really is my choice to make it harder.. because it definitely is a compromise.. it’s better for the environment & cheaper, BUT for - inconvenience, time consumed, and labor. - So, I’m willing to make a compromise somewhere along the way!) 🤷🏼‍♀️ Make it to where he can just throw them into a bin after use; and those can then be washed whenever either of you have the time to! I think that’s a great option and solution to your problem!! 😊

I watched til the end... and, was pleased to hear the true reveal of Cons. Lint Issue: Do some research 1st. Microfiber is usually 100% Polyester & the cheap, ugly, machine surged/overlocked edge is 100% plastic polyester, so it's a "Lint Collector", which also includes picking up any & all fur, hair & pubes, too. Cotton is a "Lint Producer". Solution is to sort & wash your laundry correctly. Don't mix them. Or, just stop buying plastic junk, because it's never going to decompose in your lifetime or those that you just birthed. 😢
