Hey Alex, I've got a *fantastic* disaster save sitting in my folder for you--I'm playing as Byzantium in 1964, I'm at war with my former allies, the Axis, the fronts have been largely stagnant for at least fifteen years and I've inflicted over 100 million casaulties...actually, no one deserves to play that save, not even me lol
@@rcpwProductions Playing the save rn, finally conquered the European Axis powers, now just to Sea Lion and I’m essentially the world’s foremost power Apparently the AI likes to build forts everywhere, given enough time lol Edit: It's over...it took until 1968, but Byzantium has finally returned, more powerful than ever before (and I got the Bad Romeance Achievement)! It only took 20+ hours altogether, too!
@@BarinadeCo I ended up with 7.5 million spare manpower, thanks in large part to careful management of what I had (hence the years of static fronts) plus the cores you get for reconquering parts of the Empire…overall, I think growth had a lot more to do with it for my enemies actually, as Germany and Italy could still levy millions late into the war, despite losses of tens of millions each! Of course, this is why I essentially remained on the strategic defensive for twenty years before finally launching a series of offensives led by my Cataphracti (re: medium tank divisions) through the Balkans and into central and Western Europe…by that time, the main Axis powers had less men than me in both the field and reserves
I've had a game where england and soviet union went to war and the republicans won spain and joined comintern, so england sent their entire army to spain. I took england without a fight. Literally landed 5 divisions and waltzed through england like I was on holiday. Maybe that's how he beat england. This game is why I generally don't take allies as germany.
Is it just me or does Italy consistently snipe the Highlands and that one tile in UK that cuts it in half if you take the rest? It's like the AI is committed to a particular kind of border gore in the UK. I don't know if there is some unique strategic value to them or what.
If you enable debugging mode, there is a stat named "strategic value" for each state. This value is based off of victory points and resources, also the location of the state. The ai is probably trying to snipe the ones with higher value since its programmed to do so.
I think I heard once that the Italian ai was made to want some state more than others but the numbers got changed and Scotland's number was in Africa or something
I remember when I played US. It would be awhile before I could build up for D-Day so I decided to try and invade Morocco. Invasion goes off without a hitch, but then I see the great migration of Canadian, British, French and Indian divisions to the sandy beaches of the western Sahara, next thing I know my offensive has stalled because I'm out of supply my lovely 40 width Amtrack and Marine divisions are being swamped by 130 divisions killing the supply and dying in the desert. Fun times.
Well, I was going to tell Alex how much I have enjoyed this week. Now, however, Matt is the man. Matt, you are doing a fantastic job, especially for the RU-vid videos. The beautifully brutally honest depictions of Alex bring the package together. Truly. As always thanks, and this time to you both.
Better than your allies killing the supply instead, but le rambler forgot that he could just request expeditionary forces from spain, italy and all other allies and send them to chill in berlin.
I did manage to once mess up a combined paratrooper/nuke mix. Was playing KR as France and fired nukes/landed paratroopers on every major German city. It worked but a lot of paratroopers got there first.
Nukes are so underpowered in this game! I remember once having to use them rapid fire against the US in order to force their armies back and capitulate them!
@@TheDanDude17 Realistically it would just delete whatever divisions are in the tile, which given the AIs love of stacking as many divisions in a tile as possible, would basically end the game. The idea that a couple guys somehow don’t melt during the nuclear blast and just grab their rifles and keep fighting is hilarious given the fact that they’d start to suffer from severe radiation sickness almost immediately.
I tend to find the British AI in... honestly every version of Hearts of Iron I've played, but 4 included, will throw their entire army into anywhere but the British Isles. 4 is slightly better as they'll leave at least a token garrison of something like 4-10 division in the home island. But it's not unusual at all for me to see something like a UK that has 300 Divisions... and 290 of them are in Greece allowing themselves to be utterly capitulated while their armies starve in Athens, over the supply limit. Probably what happened, if I was to guess. He basically had the UK throw everything it had into Egypt while he sent 5 Marine divisions and some infantry to utterly dominate the Home Island.
Back in the day that strat really worked. Just basic 20w divisions and you could beat the game. Didn't need an airforce or tanks. At least I never did.
I'd rather invade beefed up soviets rather than beefed up United States. It took me like 7 years to invade up through Panama and a metric ton of nukes but Poland controlled the world
Don't you love how the developers can release 5 paid DLC's but can't fix allied over stacking. You have to love that moment on d day when Brazil, France, Norway and China landed 200 divisions into a small pocket you created.

I usually play Italy and I always see that you better defeat first the soviet and then the allies.... if you let the soviet build their army and industry the eastern front became a nightmare, you have to micro so hard and it became exhausting... After you defeat the soviet then you go to the uk and after that you go slowly to america
