In the 20 or so years I've been building and repairing PCs, at least for me, it's ALWAYS the RAM. It's become the first thing I test when most problems occur.

I learned a thing or two about negotiation in my years and I can tell from my experience that you are better at making videos interesting than you are in negotiation, my friend! Anyway, I fully watched it and it was entertaining, nicely done!

As a person who has worked at a charity shop (they didn't buy stuff from people they only accepted donated items) and as a person who has a lot of knowledge when it comes to pawn shops when it comes to selling electrical items here in the UK you have to have a guy working for you who is a certified PAT tester (Personal Appliance Tester) who are people who are usually contracted by big companies as well as schools and public buildings and they have to go around and physically test each appliance and check if it passes all the safety tests as well as check if the product has been recalled or not and usually these guys check electrical items in public buildings and work places and do rechecks like every year because it is legally required to do that in public buildings but even pawn shops have to have a certified PAT tester here in the UK to check items and the charity shop where I worked the PAT tester made a minimum of £5 (like $7 or something) per item he tested and he only worked one day a week at our store (he may have worked in other places during some of the other days but making £5 in essentially like a maximum of 5-20 mins depending on item is a lot) . As a result of this many charity shops and pawn shops try not to accept items that may look like they are not worth it or items that don't work because faulty items have to be recycled by these companies and it costs them money for recycling faulty electrical items too so basically the 2 things I have mentioned are costs that pawn shops and charity shops would have to deal with that consumers may not know about

This is awesome! I have been a pawnbroker for 10 years and always have a price in mind when walking into a pawnshop.

Why did you not go in there balls to the wall claiming that this is a one year old supercomputer that is not used anymore, cost $3000 and you want at least 1k for it? Also you may have sold it for a little more than it cost, but what about the time you spent working on getting the parts and building it? I would say you lost a lot of money doing that. But yeah the lesson learnt is the same - don't sell stuff in pawn shops ;)

When I built my first pc, mine would power cycle and luckily before replacing parts I realized that I had the reset button plugged in wrong and was constantly resetting

lol the first time I put my computer together, I didn't properly install one of the sticks of ram and it was power cycling too. I took both sticks out and put them back in and it worked.

With the ram issue its called a boot loop, happened to me a few months ago, you didnt need to replace the ram, you just needed to take the ram out, clean the slot out and reseat it and it would work.

Sometimes I drive around and look at pawn shops in Vegas and I wish I saw the computer in a pawn shop.

I honestly thought that after you got someone to bite and make you an offer that you would accept it but eventually before anything changes hands tell them what you were doing and such and not actually go through with it. A small profit is better than no profit, though the gas wasted, like someone else mentioned, does take a toll

The worst thing about something like this is someone could say "yeah it has an i7 in, it's super fast" even though it is a terribly slow i7, it is still an i7 which many people think is the fastest CPU out there

should've put the little speaker thingy that beeps to save yourself a headache and tell the pawnshop that it have "error detecting feature" built in.

Ram is the LAST thing i would expect to make a problem like that

i can tell you otherwise, because when you count in the money you spent on gas getting the parts and looking up the pawn shops, you did lose money on this for sure.

its actually a half decent pc for what he built it for especially in 2021 where a 560 ti is the price of the computer he sold to the pawn shop.

so the ram power cycle with older hardware is very common. being in IT i had to swap out ram fairly often on old PC's the first time it happened took me forever to figure out what happened

A buddy of mine has almost the same specs, but that runs gta 5 on low/medium graphics. Its a HP H8 Pavillion 1123-sc and its an absolute beast for the price we got it for, its an amazing system overall. Normalize not having 2000 Dollar systems!

The problem with selling something to a pawn shop is MOST of them try selling everything these days for retail prices. Some will be fair and just aim for fair market value but not many. So knowing what it will sell in a fair market, they need to low ball the shit out of you so they make the most profit they can. Which making profit isn't the problem, it's pawn shops, again, trying to sell at retail prices.

The power cycle with ram was a problem for me once and that is what I thought after I saw it power loop but for me the ram wasn’t clicked in all the way

I worked at a pawn shop for 7 years. You could've gotten more guaranteed. you started off too low. They don't have it in the system for custom PCs. That's strictly up to the manager. When you say $300, they know that's what you consider retail. If you threw it up on CL, that would be your asking. If they gave you $175, that would leave them $125 profit. They can come down a little for the next guy and still be up.

1 rule of thumb is pull RAM and reseat it or match the memory with the Mobo
