WEELLLLL. Tis that time of the year where I just need to futz around with my look. And more specifically, my eyebrows. I thought it would be a good time to sit down and take you (and myself honestly) through a little "Eyebrow History", cuz I think they tend to get overlooked when it comes to beauty trends of the past. I also was curious how they would look on my own face and so: this video was born.
It's a wild ride and I hope you have fun lol.
I LOVE YOU ALLL.

I've been watching your videos for a long time and I think you have really gotten better at doing your brows in a way that suits your face. I'm sorry you are not feeling good about yourself right now. I'm sure it must be difficult to edit videos of your face all the time because it forces you to pay an unnatural amount of attention to minor details of your appearance. I know I would not have the confidence to do it without getting depressed/obsessed. I think that's why so many content creators whose faces and bodies are featured in their own videos develop mental health issues. (PS: Marlene Dietrich's name was not pronounced "Mar-leen" but instead it was pronounced "Mar-lee-nah" Just Fyi :) )

Drag queen here! Great job blocking the brows!! (I didn't look away) If I may offer a tip, when gluing go against the grain first and using a spoolie brush comb them downward and glue downwards then comb them back upwards and continue gluing as normal (everything else was perfect!) This coats the brow hair from both sides and helps them lay flatter :) I hope that was helpful!! I love your content!!!

oh beauty standards are SO ridiculous, the fact that people's body parts can go in and out of fashion!? I remember when having a big arse was seen as absolutely hideous and ugly, hence the phrase "does my bum look big in this?" being a common boomer couple joke thing (obviously the husband was supposed to say no because having a big bum was bad) and then suddenly arses were in fashion. I also lived through the plucked eyebrow years and never did anything to my brows and finally became trendy when thicker brows suddenly were in.

I recently saw a classmate who did microblading to his eyebrows and trimmed and shaped them to look like mine always have lol

Eyebrows do still definitely have a purpose. I have alopecia and my eyebrows come and go. When my eyebrows are non-existent, more dust and stuff seems to get in my eyes. Even if my lashes are still there. They come and go too. When my brows are nonexistent and I sweat, bing! Right into the eyes. When they are there, they block most sweat and channel it to the sides. As mine are intermittent, I definitely notice they have a real purpose. So there ya are. :)

My mother was a British 1950s movie starlet. The studio taught the actresses how to walk, talk and manage the brow action. This was done with the aid of a razor and a pencil. Unfortunately, as many of us know, eyebrows plucked or shaved over a period of time don't grow back. We end up with a bald spot. Eyebrows are a sensitive topic for my mum. To this day, bless her, she won't even answer the door to the postman without pencilling in some eyebrows despite being ** years old.

@AA-jt8xn

I’ve been shaving off my eyebrows for years, I like pencil thin eyebrows. But they always grow back if I give them 3-6 months. The problem is plucking, not shaving. Because with shaving you don’t pull from the root. The root is still there, so there is no damage being done to the hair follicle. Of course you have to use an eyebrow razor though, and make sure to be careful to not cut yourself or else hair won’t grow there anymore. Never had any problems though. I start seeing stubble immediately a day or two after freshly shaving my eyebrows. I just cover the stubble with concealer (does a pretty good job) and just keep doing that until the stubble is too noticeable, then I shave them off again.
@sisterkerry
@sisterkerry Год назад
@@AA-jt8xn I am not exactly sure how the situation with my mother's eyebrows works. I just know that her eyebrows, and many other women from the period cannot grow their eyebrows back. I have been wondering if some of these treatment oils work. They are ridiculously expensive, and as you pointed out, if the root has been damaged somehow it will not grow back. The active ingredients in these treatments seem to be caster and argan oil. It would be better to try this rather than get ripped off by the advertising. I have been plucking or years, so I have areas I would like to bushy-up a bit, but the subject is too sensitive for my mother!
@AA-jt8xn
@AA-jt8xn Год назад
@@sisterkerry if you have been plucking for years, chances are your hair follicle has been permanently damaged and the eyebrow hairs will never grow there again, but you can try the oils and see if that helps. If not, there’s other options that can help make it appear like you have hair there, for instance I don’t know if you know about microblading, it’s a tattoo done with semi-permanent ink so it fades in about 18-30 months. Maybe it’s something your mother would consider doing as well. A microblading artist takes their time to tattoo thin individual lines so it looks like eyebrow hairs. The outcome is very realistic! Its nothing like the horrible tattooed eyebrows from the 90s. Just look up “Microblading” on Google to see some examples.

As someone who was bullied relentlessly in secondary school about her eyebrows, I really appreciate this content. I tried doing different styled brows from different eras to see which kind suited my face too. I remember my mum taking me to get them professionally plucked before my prom and the lady said "We were taught to never pluck above the brow, only underneath, however I'm going to have to take some of this out from the top because they are very bushy and pointed". This all happened over 20 years ago and I still remember it, so suffice to say it scarred me. I'm better now and I've accepted myself, so I just wanted to come here with some words of encouragement for anyone who's struggling. Remember that you are beautiful just as you are, other kids are cruel, but you don't have to be to yourself. In the immortal words of Roald Dahl: If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely. Big love from Manchester UK xXx

Don't heed this nonsense... once I started taking off both sides I finally got the eyebrow shape that took the 'villainous' peak away and smoothed out my expression. I still can adjust easily to trends like the bushy brows if I want to after having had very thin eyebrows in regular intervals... so there are bonuses to lots of eyebrow hairs.... you just have a bigger canvas to play with

You probably know about Lana Turner & Lucille Ball, who had their brows shaved relentlessly in the 1930s early in their careers, so makeup artists could pencil in those thin brows, then their eyebrows never grew back and they had to pencil them in for the rest of their lives. Lucy went for the utterly surprised look late in life, with brows hovering about an inch from her hairline, which always made me smile. Cheers~

I'm certain my villain brows played a large roll in those incorrect readings of me, and it used to really bother me so I had tried playing around with different brow shapes, but l never really found something I liked. Now in my late 30s and not caring one bit what other people think, I love my brows and am fully and proudly embracing my natural villain look, lol 😈

I really loved those Billie Holiday brows on you! With your rounder face they fit very well. I have naturally very thick eyebrows and an aversion to plucking them, so every time I try to do a 1920s or 30s look it just does not look right. I am however glad we are no longer in the 1990s to the early teens with super thin eyebrows, because I did not fit in with that trend at all.
@SilvaraDragontear

Same! I was one of the few girls in my high schoolclass that did not overpluck my brows back in the roaring 90s. Not to mention that I was blessed by nature with thick & almost black eyebrows, so I rarely have to do anything to them when trying to be fancy & putting on makeup, at most I comb them with some clear eyebrow wax/gel to shape them but that is pretty much all I do to them.

It's wild how much eyebrows can change your face! Plucking mine makes my face look like a swollen tomato for three days after, so I've really gotten into the trend of shaving the tails off. I've tried upturned ends, leaving them round little ovals, longer, shorter, little ends, thick ends, and everything in between, and it's so fun! It's so hard to choose a favorite, but I'm definitely going to be taking some inspo from eyebrow history going forward!

Thanks for making me think about eyebrows as one of the ways you do those miraculous transformations that utterly mystify me. About the most attention I've really ever paid th the dark fuzzy caterpillars on my forehead is the occasional use of tweezers in the interest of not letting them meet in the middle! I had no idea big brows were ever "in", I think by the early 90s (my mid-teens) I'd mostly quit wearing makeup except for special occasions, now it's pretty much only for weddings, Halloween, and Alice Cooper concerts. And actually, I thought catbrows was one of the few things I might ever try myself if I could ever be bothered to find some makeup.

I think with the Jean Harlowe brows, you didn't take into account that her eyes are a *lot* closer together than yours. If you look where her brows start, running horizontally parallel, they're immediately above her eye's inner corner. Your eyes are much more wide set, and you started the brow a good centimetre behind the inner corner, so that probably added to the brows looking strange.
@anna_in_aotearoa3166

Back in the early 2000s, when thin brows were in, my mom wanted to pluck my eyebrows because she though they were too thick. Mine are somewhere between Lauren and Marilynn, and it’s one of the few facial features I have that I really like. I’m glad I never let her do anything to my eyebrows or change them. If I really want them to stand out, it’s a brow brush and mascara, and that’s all it takes to make them bold.
