Probably worth mentioning that the biggest reason for this monthly option is to get a ton of people driving around adding to the massive database of info Tesla already has. The more it knows, the better FSD gets.
Good point. And that may be really worth the subscription which can be cancelled. I'll try it for a couple months or whatever it takes to get some experience. BTW at $200/mo the breakeven on $12,000 is 60 months which is 5 years! Musk says Tesla will likely raise the subscription rate once it's in full release and we don't know if that will include raising the rate for existing subscribers but it could.
@@thewaltersshow609 amazing because Shelby preferred it over Austin an Dallas TX. Check her videos on the topic. Such a crappie place still better then two Texas Cities. Something tells me you will find this news bad lol.
i would be interested to see how it behaves when it comes into contact w another tesla in the summon feature. If both vehicles are agressive, then how to the Tesla's decide which one would take priority in a parking lot environment??? The car seemed to be fairly pushy and allow the other human drivers to back off so would be an interesting battle between the Tesla's as to who would back down, and if the car would reverse in the summon mode.
Or they will be like, "What do you mean only 200 miles of range? Did you mean to say 2,000 miles? Also wtf is that ugly circle on the left side of the car?!"
@@Talven81 I've seen other vids of actual FSD and it's still not that usable. Drives like a first time driver except in very easy scenarios. It'll get there but it has a lot of learning to do.
@@Helthurian well you can't expect any self driving car to drive like a guy who has been driving those streets for years. It's certainly usable for certain routes, but most youtubers actually decide to drive really hard routes to challenge FSD. Yes for e.g. a crowded inner part of a city with occasional constructions it's not quiet there yet, but I think for many daily drives e.g. from and to work it's already really good.
Full self driving sounds great, I can look at my phone and contemplate my failures and let my car dodge the other people doing the same in regular cars
Auto Park is meant for tough spots between 2 cars where it's also easy for the Tesla to create a "space" to park in, otherwise it should usually be easy/straightforward for the driver to park it themselves, so they don't really enable it for those (yet).
Fun video! I appreciate it that you still have a critical and honest opinion, despite you being a Tesla fan :) Of all the features I think the green light chime is the most useful one, personally.
What a great video Shelby! The fact that this technology is available to us right now is insane compared to the other makers. Thanks for trying it out for us.
The fact that Tesla charges a monthly fee is insane let alone the price.. $200 is a car payment. It’s just not a trend the should continue. Thanks for the review. Your videos are so well done and informative. I’m trying to learn from you and implement some techniques in my videos in the future:) Take care!
Great start to the video Shelby "Why is it going that way?" LOL Cool that you tried it out, did not know Tesla had started a subscription service for AP. I've never been in a Tesla, so I have no idea about the experience...one of these days, maybe I'll rent one off Turo? At the current price, would take just under 5 years to get to the $10k flat rate. Definitely worth "testing" for $200/mo first.
We've had FSD since we ordered our M3 and it has never once successfully allowed smart summon to work in any parking lot. The straight forward and reverse only seem to be good for about 20' and will time out. It's convenient pulling it in the garage after I wash it though.
Tesla needs to fine tune the parking lot feature. For example, you approach another car at a corner of an aisle, and the other car stops for you first, (like at 9:55). It is then a delicate dance to know which car will go first. Sometimes the other stopped car wants to go first. Sometimes the other stopped car wants 'you' to go first. How will a computer figure this out?
I think the Full Self Driving subscription may be worth it to some people once they actually release the full self driving software. It will be able to self drive on city/suburban streets and not just the highway/freeway as it is in your car. Should be capable of driving itself anywhere with minimal driver input once they get it out of beta. There are videos of RU-vidrs that are testing the FSD beta currently and it is impressive, not quite 100% yet though. Could be awhile before it is perfect!
Shelby has videos on real estate, renting apartments in major cities, electronics, cost of living in various cities,...etc! Now she is an "EXPERT ON TESLA",...jack of all, master of none!
If you are the first time trying, it’s better you purchase it and try. If you don’t like it you can return within 3 days so no charge at all. No need to purchase subscription to try it
What happens when you have 10 Tesla's trying to reverse at the same time? Which one will give the right of way? Or will they just smash each other in reverse?
My car is a 2010 and it has the auto park feature for parallel parking only. Once instructed on how it works, it's honestly a walk in the park, I use that feature any chance I get, in fact I just used it yesterday in a rather tense situation, but knowing how and when to use it, it got me in the spot faster than I would've and I didn't hold people up as long as they probably thought I would. Gotta commit to it and trust in the cameras and sensors. I have to regulate the speed of the car using the pedals in my old car, but I know newer cars do it all by itself to some degree, I'm sure this Tesla is fully automated too. Let it do it's thing, it won't hit anything, even if it goes a weird way, it knows rule #1 is to not hit things.
I can park my SR+ in Brooklyn without any problem. And unless it knows how to double park a block away and come back and get me on the Brooklyn streets, summon is useless. The only thing I want is the green light chime. When I test drove the car had it. All the cars should have it as it isn't a control feature, but I'm not paying for that. We already have it on all cars in Brooklyn anyway, the car behind you is going to honk, and the driver is going to shout something about parts of your anatomy.
For our couple 3-4000 mi roadtrips, navigate on autopilot drove 95% of the time. If you’re gonna keep your tesla for a while, it’s well worth having if you roadtrip a lot
Tesla's packages are a bit weird. Back when I bought my Model 3 in 2018, EAP and FSD were completely separate, and from what I recall, could be purchased separately (for $5000 and $3000 respectively). Right now, you can purchase EAP separately, but if you purchase FSD, it comes with EAP. So, the $200 monthly fee actually includes both EAP and FSD, but if you already have EAP, then it's only $100 a month (at the time of writing). It's also worth noting that the features in the video are all from EAP and not FSD. I can say that Smart Summon does get some interesting reactions. I rarely ever used it, but I do recall using it once when leaving a restaurant where the car was parked on the entrance side but all the way in the corner. This lady saw my car just back up on its own and make its way toward me, and she just yells, "Is that car moving on its own!?" Although, I typically ran into the same problems that you did in the video. It was just a bit too problematic to use around people because the driving was just too jerky and robotic. I never really used AutoPark that often because I found that it rarely parked well. It often took multiple forward-and-reverse movements to get into a spot when it should have only taken a single reverse movement. It also didn't help that -- as noted in your video -- it used to require physical boundaries (e.g., cars, pylons, etc.) to determine where to park. However, it was updated within the past year to actually look for parking spot markings, and that does work. Albeit, I found that even after the marking update, it still had issues parking smoothly. Now, back with my previous car, I was in the FSD beta, which does provide extra benefits in tandem with existing functionality. For example, having FSD provides light and sign control with cruise control. The problem is that it can easily miss signs (a car at your side can easily block one), and it doesn't always understand what a light means. For example, it consistently thought that a flashing yellow/caution light on the side of the road was a traffic light turning from yellow to red. I'd have to always keep my foot on the accelerator in that spot just to ensure that it wouldn't start slowing down for no reason.
Smart Summon failing is so embarrassing. I use it sometimes at the grocery store and when it doesn't work I feel so stupid just running through the parking lot to get it.
Nice vid mate!!! ❤️ Hardship everywhere... People are complaining about employee wages and it's the more reason to start your own business. Even if its something small, make yourself your own ceo... Nevertheless, Investments (like; BTC trading, Gold, stocks, Shares nd others) are easiest means to accumulate money.
If that 10k price would allow to transfer the feature to a new car then maybe lock it in, but if you have to pay it again and more when you get a new car then obviously it only makes sense to pay monthly subscription right now.
Having had my M3 for almost 3 years and purchased FSD when I got my car for 5k for EAP and 2K for FSD or 7k, I love the NoAP, especially for long trips. Then I do have over 92k miles so have had a lot of experience with it. 8 to 10 hour trips don’t wear me out near as much as before I got my Tesla. Do you have to pay attention and be ready to take over, yes. Even that though is a lot less taxing in my opinion on a long trip. Now if you drive as many miles as I do, then FSD is a game changer, making the commute so much less stressful. Now it does take some getting use to, but over time you start to predict when you need to be ready to take over. Like my normal route has a point when the right lane widens to create a slow truck lane as the road curves to right. If I don’t take over steering it will like center then at last second jump back to left to stay in center lane. So as we come up on this curve I force steer to stay I left lane disabling AP and after the lane markers start up again to show center lane markings I re-enable NoAP.
The quality of you videos are so amazing. I feel like I’m ok at editing but literally if RU-vid ever falls off you could edit tv, movies, etc. I’m so excited for the Air bnb I’m hoping to stay there soon!
Also fyi to those wondering, certain Model 3s need a $1000 hardware upgrade in order for the FSD to work. I have a 2018 M3P and my app won’t allow me to ‘subscribe’ unless I pay $1000 for a hardware upgrade. Slightly disappointing considering all Model 3s were advertised as being FSD capable/ready from the factory.
Initiating lane changes with the directional happens immediately. This is much better than waiting 5 blinker clicks in some conditions. Love green light chime. You get to keep that even if you don't continue your subscription.
As you stated, the most dangerous part of driving is the human drivers. Once more vehicles on the road are self driving, that danger goes away and things just run much more smoothly and faster.
first time subscribed this month i love it. I am commenting after an year and it still required several updates on algorithms such as making a left turn from the bracket if a car comes from the opposite direction fsd disengages. If speed limit on the street is 50 miles per hour the camera should see a little bit far to make a proper left turn.
I tried a month of FSD on my Model S. I noticed it tried to stop at every traffic light, even with a green light. It was not for me. Thanks for sharing.
Tbh I got the FSD monthly subscription because I wanted to see what the technology was capable of. There are a lot of bugs with the software that need to be addressed. The car slows down randomly while on the highway and the summon feature doesn’t work that well.
Ken B, I think it's amazing all the hype and money spent to create the true self driving car. In reality it seems like a ways off for now. I can't imagine how long it will be before it can work in all types of weather conditions or judge if a person will start walking into a crosswalk or not. It makes you realize how amazing humans are and all the complex situations we can figure out in an instant.
@@tomruth9487 all people working with Teslas full self driving are focusing on FSD BETA and not the old autopilot software that's why it sucks it's because it's not their main focus
Shelby did you try innbig parking lot? Like it doesn't do it like you have to too close so I find this feature useless. For autopark you need to be under 5 more like 3 mph
Enhanced Auto-Pilot is so underrated.... I have a 2018 Model 3 LR with the enhanced autopilot, it has all the summon features and navigate on autopilot. The only thing it doesn't have is the city driving.
I saw you blurred your license plate entire video but you missed it at 8:22 & 13:05 , hope you can edit it or something if you don't want it out there.
Useful "when it rains" - it NEVER rains in SoCal ;) But seriously - I have a narrow driveway and having car pull out would be nice, but the rest is definitely feels "beta". Thank you for an honest review.
So the hardware etc that allows this car to self drive comes with it from the factory (you are obviously paying for it) but you then either have to upgrade for 10k or 200 a month to unlock it? same with heated seats, the heated seats are already installed when you purchase the car, but still have to pay more to use it? I'll stick to German cars haha.
If u have to park far away from your home then the summon would be great. A few mins before you leave you can summon it to be at your door right on time. My sister lives downtown Toronto and has to find street parking and it can be pretty far from her rowhouse sometimes.
Thing is my 2012 skoda superb (european wagon) had an autopark feature with paralell parking (even being a manual transmission car) and it just used it's parking sensors to do it. So it's not a new feature, and it probably works on that car much better than the tesla due to less interference from less sensors. This coming form a current tesla owner, but regardless i don't think i'd ever buy the FSD since the roads are covered with snow 6 months of the year and roads are in pretty poor condition for FSD AI.
The real Full Self Driving feature that includes turns on city streets is just starting to roll out to the public in another week, still in the form of a beta. That will be the real game changer, when you are able to pop in your destination, enable FSD, and then the car essentially chauffeurs you there. All while you oversee it and remain vigilant, since it does not claim to be full autonomy at this point. Again, using it to avoid accidents is the reason it is worth the investment. It has eight "eyes," versus your pair, and reacts automatically to many conditions a human driver could never anticipate. I'm not sure the video covered that aspect, but it will become clear in the future!
Stop signs and stop light recognition is easily my favorite (will note I purchased FSD for my car when I bought it). With Autosteer and stop light/sign recognition, the car will pretty much drive you on streets with painted lines.
I think Tesla needs to get the basics working well...auto lane change and auto park for example. FSD still seems like something far in the future if the car doesn't even read speed limit signs reliably or allows you to select different route options in the navigation system...
Darn, you made this video a few weeks early! The huge "FSD Beta" (city streets beta) is just at the brink of coming out to a wider audience this month, and is the actual feature you would want to pay for. You plug in a destination and press go, and it drives you there including roundabouts and left turns as controlled intersections. I'm not even sure why they launched up the subscription service before the headlining feature was available.
Didnt see you mention that Navigate on Autopilot will handle changing from one highway to another. To me that is the best part of it. If you have a trip that involves multiple limited access highways it will do basically all the driving until you exit to local traffic.
I can get it for 5k cause I paid 5k for EAP in 2018 can’t get monthly subscription cause my car has H W 2.5 and needs a upgrade for 1k or I can buy outright for 5k. I think once you pay it should follow you when you buy a new Tesla otherwise it’s not worth it
I've been testing it out the last couple of days as well. It needs a lot of work before I will be comfortable using it. It's very rough in its movements like merging onto freeways or turning off of them. I found the summon mode to be a neat novelty, but I don't know that I would actually use it. The worst part for me is when it came to a full stop at a yield sign and the car behind almost hit me. Needless to say, I removed it from my cybertruck pre-order.
Loved your video. I have a question bec i paid $10k and i can’t figure out how to make it work. Is there a button or Something under controls to turn it on? I think i like the auto park feature the best. Thanks
I was happy paying $5k for EAP which had summon, autopark, nav on AP, and auto lane change. Summon comes in handy when someone parks close to you and you just want it to pull out 5 feet so you can easily enter the car. Auto lane change is a great safety feature using it outside of nav on AP, since it will only begin the lane change if it is safe to do so, you don't have to worry about missing someone in your blindspot. As you mentioned autopark requires a car on either side, never used it, easier to just park myself.
intresting assesment of Tesela self drive.. i Drove 2020 Corolla LE with Lane Centering, Radar Cruise (which is really self drive) and was very impressed, very basic level and very stable. Amazing.
Been in the same boat. Feeling like a moron having to go chasing after my car to get it out of the way when it got stuck blocking traffic. Very embarrassing. Now, will only use it in a very empty parking lot. I feel like it's rude other drivers to make them have to wait for this thing to figure out what it's doing. Plus, the fact that it drives on the wrong side of the aisle all time. Very cool feature, but still far from ready for primetime use!
I am very happy with FSD on highway. Auto lane change and navigate on auto pilot. Long drive becomes so comfortable, relax and enjoyable. City roads also it helps a lot auto lane change ( you have to initiate though) and traffic light stop and go loved it. I drive 99% on auto pilot 1% where I disengage due to left right turn. I really recommend. Auto park , summon are not good for daily use I don't use them.
I tried it on a busy street in Florida. The speed limit was 50 mph and when the car came to a blinking yellow light it stopped. It almost created a multi car accident.
Tried for a month. The most useful feature was the Autopilot lane change. Canceled it. The rest of the features gimmicky.. maybe Tesla will sell just the lane change feature? I would buy that.
Other features not shown/talked about in the video: The car will stop/go at lights and stop signs, and On-Ramp/Off-Ramp driving with Navigate on Autopilot.
I saw a video on issues with them, and the battery platform, where the cost to address the problem. There are the many cells that make up a unit. The alternatives between tesla v other party that address the drop in power/range. The problem when goes out of warranty, and after market warranty w 3d party cover that too on tesla?
7:27 "It was kind of aggressive about it" ... Since it is still in the beta stage, I wouldn't be comfortable using Full Self Driving mode on a routine basis. But, I did use your Omaze link and entered for the Tesla S. Still hoping for the Austin house too :) Best wishes.
Great video Shelby, really interesting! It definitely needs much more work for it to work seamlessly like a normal human driver would, but hopefully Tesla improves on it. Still fun to try out/party tricks with other people.
Im planning on getting a model 3 soon and was on the fence about whether or not i should purchase the fsd right away or wait. then i came across this video and for whatever reason, your video helped me better than all the others ive seen.
A lot will change when the FSD beta 10.x is released to the public. As of now it's enhanced auto pilot. Auto parking works best if you are driving below 5 mph and between two cars.
Hi, I did have FSD subscription, i did trust lane change and stop signs. Only the freeway works for full self driving . The beta 9.2 would make more worth it on city and highways. Since i live country area FSD does not navigate on these old Highways . Auto pilot and beta Sterring works for me. Until they release version 11 then it might be worth it. Francesca
Is it really full self driving ? I thought it wasn't fsd yet. I think 🤔 you are calling it Full self driving but it's NOT and I don't believe Tesla has released FSD yet
Lane changing would be useful for a semi or box truck. Sometimes it's hard to see the cars when your changing lanes. Sure Elon is probably working on trucks next
Yh i would get the Full Self driving package based on numbers only cos eventually its gonna drive itself so getting the package now is more economically sound than $200 a month and later on if you like it and wanna buy the full package $10,000 making it $10,200 .
Right now? No, it’s NOT worth it. However, once the beta is available, yes it is. Btw don’t expect FSD to be OUT of beta until it’s absolutely perfect. And that could take years…it’s close…but it needs to convince regulators that it’s safe, and that will take longer than actually getting the software ready. Keep in mind that pricing WILL go up as it becomes more capable! I have a model y coming in January, and plan to purchase the $10,000 FSD option as soon as I can save up the money for it. The subscription doesn’t make sense if you plan on owning the car over four years.
