I tried the Gerber Dime for a week, here’s what I really think about it.

Gerber Lifetime Warranty success story here. Broke the pliers on my Gerber Suspension at work, sent them some pictures, they asked where and when I had bought it, and they sent me a replacement.

I've used the Gerber warranty and was incredibly pleased. I sent them a email with including pictures of said items and within a few weeks I received brand new products.

I've had one for years. I don't use it much, but as it hangs with my keys it means that it's always with me and I can depend on it in a pinch.

I’ve had mine for over 5 years and carry it every dar. I paid $15 and it’s been worth the money. It’s definitely not hard use, more of an office carry. The scissors are great to touch up my beard, the package opener works great and the bottle opener is great at parties.

great and informative video. I've used the gerber warranty for one of their knives with zero issues. it was a 12 year old knife that had it's assisted opening mechanism break and they just sent me a new one.

I brought it to use in an office environment. It worked out great. At the time, I was traveling overseas frequently, and this small tool was never a problem. For yard work the SAK Hiker is my go to.

What I like about the Bottle Opener is when you're using the Pliers the curve of the Bottle Opener in the palm of your hand gives you a good, not painful purchase. And yes, the scissors aren't very good.

Good video. The weak point on it is the wire cutters. I used and abused it for 1 year. I’ve opened tuna cans with the package opener. It’s very dangerous I wouldn’t recommend it. I tried to cut 14 gauge wire the screw snapped it was a catastrophic failure. I bought a new one it’s so handy. I use it every day. Scissors cut zip ties real good. The key ring I took off. I use a quick release on my key chain. I snap it on the bottle opener.

Have it in two first aid kits & one small EDC cargo pocket pouch because it has a knife blade, a scissors (it's ok if you do some sharpening with a rod), wire cutter/pliers to pull things like cactus needles & the bubble pack opener works great cutting zip ties or shoe laces in case you have to access footwear (most used feature opening packages). Since it's for emergencies, doesn't matter if the blade needs re-sharpening after heavy use since I also carry a pocket knife everywhere. I've resharpened/rehoned these on the bottoms of ceramic coffee cups or just flat rocks in the field. The bottle opener is more often used as the attachment point if you don't trust the flimsy key ring. I've had them for 8 years and maybe have used them a handful of times.

Yeah I think I've used the package opener more than anything else. Its a good addition. I consider it more of an emergency tool as well. Thanks for sharing 👍

I would say that for zipties and cordage, I've used the package opener as opposed to the scissors, and I'd say that has worked better than my swiss army pen knifes....

Good review on the Dime. I find it a tool perfect for urban EDC and light emergency use. it may not be the strongest, but it is easy to always keep on hand. one thing I recommend is getting a keychain pocket clip for the lanyard ring, makes it loads more accessible. Another thing is the retail package opener is far stronger a tool than people will think. on top of controlled cuts for boxes, it is the best thing ever for dealing with sealed plastic packaging. I like this over the (now sadly discontinued) Leatherman squirt because while both have mostly the same tools and quality, the dimes package opener and tweezers beat out the squirt in terms of utility. also the dime has a much more accessible flat head which can be used for scraping in a pinch. only thing the squirt beats the dime on (in my opinion) is definitely its file. Another great tool in this size range is the Nextool Mini Flagship. it has a comparable toolset, but a much beefier knife, scissors, full length flathead and flat phillips screwdriver. it's file is ok, and it has a bottle/can opener. The scissors on it is the best part and passes the paracord cut test. only downside on the Nextool is it's slightly awkward bulk, but if you want a mini tool with some beef, I do recommend checking it out. and it helps that it is within an affordable price range (less than $30)

Those are good options too. I really enjoy the retail package opener on the dime, im gonna try it on sealed plastic packaging for sure. Thanks for the comment 👍

I bought a Gerber dime. I had higher expectations. I used the pliers in a twisting motion and now they no longer line up as they should. Not happy. 😕

i carry one or two of these "do everything" tools because I always find out I never use them and then they become great gifts to people who have helped me. Person who gets one of these, they are very happy but they put the tool in the back of their box and unlikely ever to use it. I work with workmen who use real tools for real work

2 years ago I was slowly dying for internal bleeding... I was coughing blood at work and had to go at the hospital with just my edc bag. To pass the time I started doing cordages with plastic bottles using the dime. Blade is quite terrible but overall it's a serviceable knife.

The only thing I use mine for is opening packages. I have been using Gerber Multipliers since the early 90's and have had a few occasions where they replaced them, my current everyday carry is the Gerber Multiplier Recoil which has been discontinued, but when I the belt carrier gets destroyed they always send me a new one. ;-)

No multitool can handle heavy-duty work. For that, you'll need stand-alone tools. This Gerber Dime is for very small fixtures. Gerber is definitely not a premium brand, but the price makes it more attractive than the Leatherman Micra, for example, which costs more than twice as much. Also, the Dime has both pliers and a pair of scissors (the scissors suck, I can tell). The tweezers suck too. The nail file seemed pretty ridiculous as well because it's too short. Gerber is trash, but for $22 I'd give it a chance if I occasionally ran into this knife in a store.
@kgrdiy1928
@kgrdiy1928 6 месяцев назад
I agree with you. It's not high-end and most certainly cannot handle heavy duty tasks. But in a pinch, it can be useful for a thing or two. Thanks for the feedback 👍

Multitools are a good idea but not practical. Have given up on these in favour of proper mini tools like Knipex, Milwaukee etc -in an edc type format.

Seems always to be the case, that in every new Dime review that appears every now and then, that the reviewer needs to be reminded that the scissors are left handed, using them with the right hand makes them to underperform.

I honestly thought all Gerber products were terrible like the dime but recently got a US made Gerber 600 so good I ordered a 400. Would never buy a non US made Gerber again though. Absolute shite. Nextool is way better quality if you want Chinese made.

So I found this tool to be terrible like the gerber clutch. Got a LM Squirt and it was much better. Now I have a Nextool mini flagship. Great scissors, okay knife, needs to get rid of bottle opener and improve the file.

It's trash. The scissors was seldom used and its spring broke after 2 years. The clam shell/package opener broke after a year. I live in South East Asia and there's no way I'm sending it to US for warranty. Waste of money. My advise is to buy a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife instead, the quality is superior.
