I wonder if you did the challenge after sparring if it would be easier? With the hunger and adrenalin it might open up the appetite. I know I'm always hungrier after working out.
What a dream team we have here. Two champions in one video. I've seen your old fights, both of you guys are amazing then, and you make my favorite kind of content now.
@@JunkFoodJapan I only just now found out! You guys definitely have a good thing going here...just don't get too full doing these food challenges in the future!
You know, I just started watching Beard Meets Food myself, and was thinking of him the whole time you two were struggling, wondering how he might fare in this challenge -- then you mentioned him, and it really caught me by surprise. It was like you were reading my mind, man! ;)
You guys did a great job ! That was a lot of food. Hope your editor got a chance to take on that challenge. On a side note, I think you and Ryosuke should have your pictures added to that place.
I got a stomachache just watching this, oh my gooooodness! I did just eat all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ this weekend, so I was sympathizing with you guys greatly throughout this. The meat sweats are real!
I think I enjoyed the reminiscing more than the challenge. Looks good, but maybe not something so extreme. Junk food is more enjoyable with company, so no killing the company! :D
I don't normally eat a lot of food, especially for someone my size but I can easily eat like 2 kilos of steak. I dunno why but there's something just primal within me that's like ''Eat the meat, you never know when the tribe has the next successful hunt!'' that helps me eat more meat than any other kind of food. 3 plates of rice would be what does me in, that's a crazy amount of plain white rice and you get bored of that before finishing even the first plate.
I feel bad whenever my fav youtubers go through this pain for videos for us. We've all had that FULL feeling. haha Less challenges man, showing us great food is good enough for me!
When I saw the title I genuinely started drooling!! Thinking “oooo maybe a challenge I might like doing next to the Wanko Soba” then I watch the video… 3 STEAKS!?!? Thick as well that’s why it’s so hard. It seems tempting to do though like I can probably manage 2 steaks at best but a third? Mannnn. Do you remember how much the challenge was? Then could you tell us the price for a stand alone steak? That’d be great to know when I go to Japan and treat the family! (I did read your article and saw you mentioned a few items on the menu. But not the price for the challenge. You can answer just how much the challenge would be haha
@@JunkFoodJapan so essentially the moment you hit the third steak you either win ¥10,000 or pay up ¥10,000 hahaha. Makes sense. I feel it’d be easier if the side dish wasn’t rice haha but alas I think I’ll follow your words and just go for a single steak
As a fan of JFJ, Champ, and Pro Wrestling, this is the perfect video! AND a BreadMeatsFood mention! Favorite video so far. Hope the 2 of you do more videos together. (Challenges optional) So... did you both get Ribera jackets?
@@JunkFoodJapan Thanks! Comes with being a lifelong wrestling fan and hearing all the stories about Ribera and how getting a Ribera jacket is a huge deal. So....can we see your Ribera jacket if you still have it? Please?
Man, rice is the easy part, after that first stake, I bet their jaws were hurting so much. Beef is really hard to down in big quantities not matter how smoothly cooked it is. I could eat half a large pot of rice with some basic sauce easily and feel hungry after a few hours, but 1 stake is enough to conk me out for the day.
@@phoenixskyward9972 Guess we're opposites. Carbs fill me up. When I have steak I usually have 800g plus rice or potatoes and vegies so just doubling the amount of steak whilst removing the carbs would be an easy challenge. Also good steak is easy to chew... you got to prioritise quality.
@@kristianbasile7141 True, fair enough. Yeah, I find a big amount of beef is a bit daunting and quite loses it's flavor as I eat more of it, unlike chicken or fish. But yeah, I love a lot of veggies steamed with my rice as well and grilled chicken, just perfect. Also you are defo right about quality, but even the best can be too much when it's too much haha.
Another one for the list Nik! A non Wagyu steak house will be the perfect addition to the food cruise to fend off the home sickness. If you ever find yourself in Calgary Alberta, check out the char bar and have a crack at a 32oz, dry aged, prairie raised AAA Alberta beef porterhouse steak. Comes with a fantastic chimichurri, and a choice of sides, and is the PERFECT dish to share with a friend. Japan may be the home of A5 Wagyu, but it's so thickly marbled and greasy that you can only enjoy it in small, super deluxe quality portions. But here in Alberta, AAA beef is considered our national pride when it comes to meat, and some of the best meat in north america. light to medium marbling depending on your cut, perfect for dry aging, grass and grain fed, simple perfection. We enjoy a good marble like anyone else, but we let the meat to do most of the talking here ;)
Passing out from eating food is called "The Itis" and it's pretty darn effective. XD But this one makes me wanna challenge the 2.04 Kilo(72oz) steak in Amarillo that's just south of me. Where if you win.. your whole table's meals are Free. You know.. I've heard of plenty of Japanese food challenges going from Dumpling, Raman, Soba, Curry, Katsu, Karaage and Burgers.. But I haven't seen one for a Huge Hambagu Steak.
Loved this. Love when people test what it means to be a human being. It transcends language and cultural barriers. Shout out to both champs in this vid
As a pro-wrestling fan, I've known about Ribera for years. Getting one of there jackets used to be a big mark of honor among the wrestlers. Happy early birthday Mr Pettas!
Yooo so nice to see you know beard meats food. You should do a collabortion if possible in japan where he trys a lot of crazy food challanges in toyko.
Another great episode, and I'd love to see you do another challenge but maybe with a wider variety of options? (maybe a sushi train challenge or akin?)
I'd much rather you take on challenges of skill than watch you damage your health. The cooking challenges are awesome. Blind taste tests of rare/unusual junk foods or guessing ingredients in a dish/food are loads of fun. Scavenger hunt challenges are great: a 3rd party gives you both (or more people) a list of foods to shop for within a time limit. Or you each find "the best" version of some foods/ dishes, and a 3rd party will judge the result. Watching athletes hurt themselves breaks my heart. You all work and have worked very hard to achieve results that most people can not do. Thank you for your hard work, I'm having lots of fun watching your channel!
From your Xmas video, you asked about favorite junk/comfort foods. One I love is taiyaki, which is hard to find in the USA. The few Japanese markets I've gone to, there are only frozen ones and only with the red bean filling. I'm wondering if there are savory fillings for taiyaki. I've only heard of sweet filled taiyaki.
Thank you for recognizing our hard work, I actually always wanted to challenge the steaks but never got around to it. I also thought I would be able to finish it but you saw the video. About the taiyaki, they come with green tea and custard, check out the 10$ challenge video from Sendai to learn about it
These challenges are not for the faint of hearts. Leave them up to the professional eaters like Takeru Kobayashi 🙏. It was fun to watch you get overstuffed, not a good feeling when hitting the gym later.
I guess it must be the perfect day to finish that much food. For example I can't eat much when I am really hungry. But when I am simply looking forward to eat something nice I can eat quite a lot. Once I was still very hungry after an 750 gr. Steak with potatoes and vegetables at side. Can't explain why but I guess it was just because it taste so good and I was in a good mood.
Ahh. Very nice! Ribera seems a great place to enjoy amazing food with friends! Great Energy at the beginning, steak 1 got Destroyed! Seems you actually spoke defeat into your own mind afterwards though. Remember to Stay Positive and Speak Only Victory, Tomodachi! Don't talk about the pains, Focus Only on the Gains! Another key may have been to be hydrated everyday for days in advance, that way you can afford to take less water, and avoid drowning yourself into unnecessary fullness. Pro-Tip: Boost your fat-burning metabolism by drinking more Green Tea 🍵 Green Tea cuts grease and fat from your arteries, benefiting your heart, mind and youthful appearance. May also help to get up or move around a bit more while battling. I know you'll Learn from this experience, Train Harder, and make Strong Comeback in your next food challenges! 😉💪 Ganbatte!
Great advice and I drink green tea every day but this challenge is for the young people or actual food fighters. I am glad to have tried it but happy not to do that again
Maybe i'm greedy as an eater*, but where is the challenge in this?? My grandma would make this an appetizer for family reunion :) *not sure i translated that right, my english isn't that great
Love you having the champ on the channel with you, but would definitely rather see you enjoying good food than making yourself sick. Still enjoyed the video very much.
Ive always wanted to visit ribera, gets delicious meal and a nice jacket! Thanks for this video, I was actually searching for one recently on this restaurant!
Bet something like Mapo Tofu with lots of veggies would have been easier! Had some Korean pancakes for lunch with spring onions, lean bacon, surimi and gratin of cheese on top. Full after 3...so a challenge idea? Hope the next day wasn't a challenge
I hope you both were okay after that challenge. The food looks amazing and delicious, however I never saw the point of pushing eating until feeling sick. It takes the enjoyment out of it.
Well it was a steak challenge and I wanted to beat my old friend. I was convinced I could do it but… you saw what happened. Maybe next time we can challenge something different
when i saw the first set i was super confused about the challenge, it wasn't until the second plate came that it looked like something that would dissuade me from dessert
Nicholas, I've always wondered why it feels that I've seen you before. I just found out that I used to watch ImagineNaton back when it still aired on NHK World! Big fan of that program, it's unfortunate it has to end but, all things have to move on someday. keep up the content!
Hey welcome back to TOMODACHI ! I hosted Imagine Nation for 7 years! It was a lot of fun. The Olympics that never really came to Japan shut our show down... don't ask me
Thank you, I gotta say though. Watching Beardmeatsfood makes you over confident when going into a challenge like this! He is incredibly talented at what he does.
Fun video, but maybe a bit too extreme challenge. Reminds me of a burger meal in Sendai that was probably supposed to be a challenge but it wasn't that challenging and we ordered so many that they ran out of meat.

Oh man, I forgot about this video. I thought this was doable but if you guys can't do it, I'm not going to try. Especially since it's been years since I've tried something like this. Man's gotta know his limitations. My old trick for overeating was to drink some fizzy water and move around a bit. I remember taking some friends to an all-you-can-eat buffet for lunch and that's what I did. My girlfriend at the time decided to try to take a nap, as did her friend. They did not feel better until the next day. I was fine by dinner time and I ate way more than they did. (I was then forbidden from ever taking my girlfriend to that restaurant again.)
