I was beginning to doubt the Canadian authenticity of this post when there was no maple in the first four minutes, but then you came through with maple glazed salmon nuggets, a maple butter tart and even maple whisky (which I've never even imagined existed). Now that's Canadian!

This is an over-simplification: Canadian whiskies usually use rye as the grain in the mash, although other cereal grains may be used. Comparatively, Scotch and Irish whiskies usually use barley, and Bourbon often uses corn, but other grains can be used. Cheers from Ontario!

The salmon nuggets and butter tarts (I'm originally from the Prairies, where butter tarts are a staple) made me drool. The ketchup chips were amusing. I'm not much into either chips or ketchup, but a couple of years ago I was coordinating a homestay for students from China. We were providing lunches for their program and were serving sandwiches (with deli meat and cheese) and chips. We have great little items down here like Lake Erie Yellow Perch, with a light flour coating and deep fried. Next item, is Windsor Style Pizza. Windsor style pizza consist of thin crust, cooked on cornmeal in stone brick oven, but the toppings is what makes it regionalized and so good. Most places in the region use Gallati Cheese, but others use there own, mozzarella, which has a very strong flavour. Then there is the Pepperoni, and we don't leave it in circles, we shred our pepperoni. Then lastly, it's the battle of Mushrooms, 50% use can and 50% use fresh. Both have a different flavour to the Pizza along with texture. Windsor Style Pizza has sprung up in different cities across Canada, such as Halifax, Toronto, and Calgary, for those former Windsorites who miss the pizza. But many of the great Pizzaerias restaurants in the region, offer a par bake version, for those traveling home for a visit, to send home a frozen, and finish cooking at home. The next item my list, which you ended with, is the whiskey/rye item. You will be amazed, that Canadian Club, which was originally produced here in Windsor, is no longer, except for the very old stuff (aka 30 and plus years old). It was produced in Walkerville Region of Windsor, which the Hiram Walker Family Started a distillery, right on the banks of the Detroit River, back in the 1800s. To this day, we still produced Whiskey here, but its no longer Canadian Club, but Weiser Brand. We do have tho, in warehouses, that lie on the outskirts of Windsor, old brew Whiskey from Canadian Club. To top this off, both areas were linked with the Railroad, the Grand Trunk Western of Canada, which later became CN Rail. To this day, rail lines pass between both places, but its only Via Rail daily trains, which start its journey, in the Center of Hiram Walkers Factory, and pass the old warehouses. To add on to the Railroad information, Weiser, Canadian Club, and Crown Royal Whiskey, all get bottled in this region, with Rail Shipments of Whiskey coming from Gimli, Manitoba, to Amherstburg, Ontario for Crown Royal, on the Most Southern Railroad facility in Canada, on the Essex Terminal Railroad, which also switches out Hiram Walkers on its most northern part of its line. Southern Ontario has lots of other great items like Large green houses of Tomatoes and other vegetables, and we also produce lots of other items for Canada, and you can find those just at home. My last item, is more of Southern Ontario/southeast Michigan/northern ohio item, and that is Vernors Ginger Ale. It's been a staple for years, but during the pandemic, Kureig Canada stop making it, but many Canadians have been getting it imported from the Detroit region, to supplement, and paying top dollar for it. Here mike some fun facts from Southern Ontario, maybe 1 day we can meet up and you can try some Southern Ontario items.

In 1996, I stayed with my friend that lived in Toronto. We also went to Niagra Falls. I realty enjoyed Canada. We ate in CN Tower, too, one night.

I think you sampled a lot in a day. However I would love to see you do this more often or spread it more into your Canadian videos as well as local snacks when you can travel to other places again. I love watching people try new food because you (nor the viewer) know whether it is a good choice or not (i.e. whether you will like the food or not) so the reaction can be priceless, like the chips with ketchup. Could you do a video where you compile all the different ketchups from all over the world as you travel more again. I have my favourite ketchup from a certain country, but it is so interesting that tomatoes can be made into so many different ketchup recopies. Thank you for a different video for a change, but I come to your channel to travel.

Fifth generation VI islander here, butter tarts are a common Christmas treat there. Currents and raisins are not the same. There are strong opinions on that. Nanaimo bars are a year round treat, and are best when eaten on BC Ferries with a hot cup of coffee. I love your videos, great escapism during the pandemic!

Oh, a video idea: the Nanaimo Bar Trail in Nanaimo BC. There is a map on the City of Nanaimo website that lists dozen of restaurants where you can try Nanaimo-bar inspired cocktails, ice cream, cheesecake and crepes.

New subscriber from the UK and catching up on your videos. Loved this one! Poutine looked delicious as did the salmon bites. The Sean Connery impression was genius 🤣

I love poutine! The quality of the gravy is what makes or breaks the poutine experience for me. The best poutine I’ve had was at a Blue Jays game a few years ago.

As a kid, I used to split Nanaimo bars into it's layers and try to give someone the base while I ate bites of the middle and ganache lol

I was a bit unsure about trying Poutine, but I gave it a go in Québec City. Absolutely loved it!

Oddly, I lived in the Comox Valley for 9 years. Every Christmas, almost everyone I knew made butter tarts. One of my absolute favourites. Never heard of them in the USA, but the filling is similar to a pecan pie. I’m quite surprised you never heard of them in Vancouver. Super common on Vancouver Island.

I never had maple syrup until I visited Toronto, only “pancake syrup” (aka corn syrup with imitation maple “flavor”)... I was like “why have I been missing this?” 😂 My dad always said the only cocktail he liked was 7 & 7, Seagrams 7 (American blended whisky) and 7-up.

Most excellent Canadian Food vlog. Here in Nanaimo, the bars are obviously popular for tourists. One day, I saw a pamphlet for the Nanaimo Bar Trail, which listed the best places to buy Nanaimo Bars. That list was pre-Covid, so I'll list my favorite Nanaimo Bar locations. Nearly every resaurant here has a version of the desert. The Bocca Cafe, up in Old City Quarter on Fitzwilliam Street, has the best selection of Nanimo Bars, including a peanutbutter cream bar. (If it is peanut butter, does that mean that it is not a true Nanaimo Bar?). The Vault Cafe makes excellent Nanaimo Bars and Red's Bakery on our Commercial Street seems to be a hit for tourists. Anyplace that sells coffee and sandwhiches, like Serious Coffee has a version of the Nanimo Bar. There is even a bar located on Front Street just steps away from Harbour Air, called The Nanaimo Bar. Ask for a Nanaimo Bar martini! When cruise ships dock at the Port of Nanaimo, the bakery at Thrifty would have a giant mountain display of packaged Nanaimo Bars ready for shoppers to purchase the treat. The pyramid of Nanaimo Bars would be sold out by the time the ship was ready to leave the harbour. When I have guests (Pre-Covid) who ask how they can safely pack Nanaimo bars to take home, I suggest buying the ingredients here in Nanaimo, then making the bars at home. I explain that the only thing that one needs to buy in Nanaimo is the Bird's Vanilla Flavored Custard Powder. That is the secret ingredient that makes a Nanaimo Bar a Nanaimo Bar. The rest of the ingredients can be found in their home grocery stores. If you need suggestions for another food vlog, how about the Nanaimo Bar Trail theme? On Nanaimo's Harbour you can go to Javawoky Coffee House and get a house made Nanaimo Bar. The ice cream places on the seawall have Nanaimo Bar ice cream. You can walk over to Albert and Wallace Street to have a house made Nanaimo Bar at the Vault Cafe. You may as well then go to Red's Bakery to look at the housemade Nanaimo Bars before heading up to Old City Quarter, where you can find several different flavors of Nanaimo Bar at Bocca Cafe. After 5PM, the Nanaimo Bar and Lounge is open. With current restrictions, all places I mention have outdoor seating or window only service.
