In this video find out what i eat in a day as I travel to Newcastle in the UK to try a pease pudding stottie! But the challenge for this video, is that I have to do it all in one day. So I take a coach from Leeds, UK to Newcastle, UK, have to find the best pease pudding stottie, try it, and make it back to the coach station in time for my coach out of Newcastle later on in the day. So will I succeed? Or will I fail? Find out in this video!

Have you ever tried using a Megabus? They are a coach service like National Express. They are very good value for money. Coach travel is slow compared to trains/planes but it is a useful affordable alternative I'm very grateful for. 😊 For long journeys I sometimes travel overnight and sleep on the coach. Saves paying for a night in a hotel.

I have an elderly Scottish friend who loves a ham and pease pudding stottie - fabulous ❤ She has it every time she visits me. Pease pudding is normally made (in my family) with a ham /gammon joint. ❤❤

I love pease pudding. My girlfriend is a Geordie and I was once invited to her late mother's house for tea where she'd made homemade pease pudding. From what I remember she cooked a pork joint with the yellow split peas in a slow cooker where the fats and salt from the meat would then be absorbed by the peas. It was then mashed up and I've got to say that homemade pease pudding tastes so much better than any shop bought pease pudding! I try and get some every time I go up to the north east. Thanks for the video EIE!
@robtudor3785

Normally a ham rather than pork joint.
@Zooumberg
@Zooumberg 23 дня назад
The thing is, is it's so easy to make. Just put a gammon joint into a pressure cooker cover to half way with water. Cook for thirty minutes. Take out and set aside. Top up the water from the meat with water and add yellow spilt peas. Cook for forty five minutes and you've got a very very inexpensive meal and it's so much better than the pease pudding at a shop. As the shop bought stuff is vegan and hasn't got the juices from the meat. The Try it, it's really easy.

@@TeamCGS2005 good luck. You can do it in an ordinary pan, but I do mine in an instant pot. It's so easy to make it's laughable. If you add even more water when cooking the split peas, you can make a really nice soup.

Pease pudding, also known as pease porridge, is a savoury pudding dish made of boiled legumes, typically split yellow peas, with water, salt and spices, and often cooked with a bacon or ham joint. A common dish in the north-east of England, it is consumed to a lesser extent in the rest of Britain.

Train prices are just a joke and something needs to be done about it. For all the bleating about cars' impact on the environment the government does nothing to either subside or improve rail prices so that people actually feel inclined to choose them over car. I couldn't go on a coach like that as I'd have a panic attack

I didn't know Pease Pudding originated in Newcastle? In the 70s when I had an after school job at the local supermarket in London, an elderly lady called Lill came in every evening for a small tin of pease pudding and a quarter of black pudding for her tea. Bless. She was probably born in the 19th century and lived through WW1. I always associate pease pudding with Lill. I tried it once, not much flavour, but didn't know it was served cold in a sandwich. The stottie did look nice. And yes, train fares are ridiculously high. London next for David Beckham's favourite Pie & Mash at Manzies? On the Coach?

Great review from The Toon . Bet you didn't know you've had a medieval dish .. that's how far back pease pudding goes .. pease olde english for pea,and was originally called pottage. A lot of us add a bit of English mustard to a ham and pease pudding scottie... you can also fry pease pudding and the outside goes nice and crispy , can also be used to top a pie instead of mashed potato or pastry .

Hello I live here in Newcastle, I commend your intrepidness, Newcastle is an unusual place for some, plus this is a sparsely populated area of England, I think like less than 4-5% of total population of country live up this way in NE England, underpopulated. As cities come in my opinion it punches way above its size, not a big city compared with others but we have better architecture and landmarks, we have an excellent Metro Train system, also we have pretty good parks and large open green spaces. If you come up again you would appreciate the Grainger Market. Northumberland has great food also if you can get up there, Craster Kippers are a must, and you can get excellent in high demand crab sandwiches. Thanks for promoting the City

Sandwich looked really delicious. Was the bread buttered? We used to have pease pudding out of a tin with our Sunday roast during my 1980's London childhood and I never liked it. But I like most of what I hated then so I really must give pease pudding a grown-up try!! Incidentally, I'm glad you didn't give us a National Express toilet review as in my experience using one is like trying to wee in an earthquake 😰😰

We've a few local foods in Scotland, such as Lorne sausage, white pudding, Cullen skink and tablet. I live in Glasgow but these foods are available throughout Scotland but possibly too far for a day trip. I've been following for a while but my first comment. I enjoy your laid-back approach. Train prices are insane unless you can book ahead with a railcard. Please keep doing what you're doing I enjoy each and every video. I've visited Newcastle a few times and always buy some Pease Pudding from Grainger Market but wasn't aware of the Stottie. I'm originally from London and regularly had Pease Pudding at teatime growing up in the 60's and no Northern/North Eastern roots as far as I'm aware

I think it was a bit of a trek to go and have a sandwich which looked pretty average to me, however, the cost of the train return £65 was a total ripoff and disgrace. How can you justify that cost ? The quality and expense of travelling by train is embarrassing considering other countries. What must tourists think? No wonder most people have their own car otherwise we would use public transport more. But thanks for the video anyway.

The coach station at Newcastle is ran by the council, who don't look to care about the station. And about the fares if you book in advance, and buy a non refundable ticket it would probably be the same, if you used flixbus it would have been cheaper, and you certainly missed a foodies treat by not going to the Grainger market. And actually after a complaint to Nat Ex I got a compensation for my complaint on how dirty it was and there were no facilities , and how it's not a very good first impression of Newcastle.

The train ticket would have been much less if you’d been able to book a month in advance.
