I turned an old tool shed into an Art Studio and I did it for under $3,000!
I began painting seriously at the beginning of the pandemic and quickly outgrew my bedroom studio. With no other options available, I decided to take an old shed in my backyard and turn it into an awesome art studio with proper walls, electrical, window, and a custom wall easel. This happened in two phases which I discuss throughout the video (including the total cost).
Enjoy 🙏
I'll be doing at least bi-weekly videos moving forward (I swear). Enjoy!

I love the vibe you created, and I will probably copy most of it, especially that cool gallery wall easel!😊

I turned a shed into a studio using only money made from selling my art. It's so nice to have a space that's totally my own. Off to watch your video.

Awesome! Ya, I need my own space for escapism. Helps me focus.

@@DarrenNaylor Can you put heat/air in yours? Mine has a space heater and Ac in the wall. It helps.

I have portable versions of each but being in California I don't use either much@@RockyRoadCreationsbyDiana

@DarrenNaylor I live in the mountains of CA, so it can get really cold.

I envy your art space even with extreme hot and cold temperatures. I too have taken inspiration from TenHun and Slewp. You could always set up a wash area just outside the studio so you keep the space clean. Love the video. I subscribed!

I appreciate that! Happy to have you. Now that I've switched to oil I'm not washing things as often so thats helped. With acrylic it was constant to prevent things from hardening.

That’s a really amazing space buddy Must have been a great learning curve to go through. Deffo better doing it yourself instead of getting someone else, not only is it cheaper, but you learn more things and you get more satisfaction in it in the end. Love the milk crate storage, I’d noticed that from TenHundred too. Great video Darren!

I would have considered moving forward with constructing a skylight for this shed and installing a mini split HVAC.
@DarrenNaylor
@DarrenNaylor 5 месяцев назад
I agree on the sky light! Still thinking about it, haha. I live in good enough weather that I can be in there year round with just a fan/mini heater or I would have done the mini split too.

I hav a big insulated metal shed I am wanting to convert to a pottery studio. Cleaning it out and sealing the floors is going to suck

The cleaning it out part was rough since mice had been pooping in it, but it was rewarding as hell when it was done :)

Useful video, but I doubt Ken’s time is factored into the $3K.

Did you add any heating/AC? I didn’t hear you mention that. Also, what about a water basin/sink? How did you get water out there? I’m looking at doing the same in our yard.
@DarrenNaylor
@DarrenNaylor Год назад
I didn't, but i did end up buying a portable AC unit for summer and a space hater for winter. I live in CA so fortunately weather doesn't get extreme. Adding the insulation helped alot as well to make it more year round.

@@DarrenNaylor Which brand did you get for the AC and heater? I’m looking for similar setup for my studio.
@DarrenNaylor
@DarrenNaylor 7 месяцев назад
I can't remember the AC unit brand, I ended up selling it cus I never used it. A fan was good enough. The space heater is just the Heat Dish from Costco. Works great and doesn't use as much energy.@@thebluelizzard4700

Do you live in area where winter is tough? Does it handle weather okay?
@DarrenNaylor

I’m in California so weather is good year round for me. Some hot/cold days here and there but nothing a fan/heat dish can’t handle.

Great ! You’ll get used to the space besides a lot of artist paint and even smaller spaces. Good ventilation if you’re using oil. Maybe you can expand it a couple feet on one side that would bring you a lot more room. Great video enjoy it you did more than enough
@DarrenNaylor
@DarrenNaylor 7 месяцев назад
Thanks, Mark! It's funny, I think I've figured out how to maximize the space but if there was one thing I'd really like is more natural daylight through the roof or something. But that would be more work than I'm up for so I'm happy as is :)

@Darren Naylor, you really do need to invest in a quality chair, that horrid basic chair is not worth the health of your back.

I ended up getting a better one like a month after I posted that video, haha! Mainly due to all the editing hours in the chair.
