Honestly the biggest flex in this video is TSG showing off a landlord who not only lets them be as creative as they want but actively encourages it by bringing them stuff he thinks they’ll like.
Haha my exact thoughts! I wish I had a landlord like him. Alas mine just enjoys jacking up the rent on the regular without making improvements to our place (and our small city's landlord have a very well known private Facebook group where they add the details of "difficult" tenants who would like to live in a decent place and file complaints to our council (who many of the landlords work for)
It's a good idea to accept old furniture! I think the sorry girls should open for subscribers in Toronto or GTA to donate their old furniture and upcycle them.
I love this series. If someone from the team sees this, is it possible to tag these as part of a series? I’ve seen some other channels do something like that for running series. Maybe they already are and things have changed and I can’t find it lol😅 just really enjoy these and now am rewatching a few.
Love this series! 300$ for that credenza was an absolute steal, I think you could’ve gotten well over $1000. It seems like some of these are actual antiques, it might get you a lot more money to work with an antiques dealer vs an Instagram reseller!
Ditto! A substantial art-deco piece should command way more than that, I can imagine the person who bought it will sell it on themselves and make even more profit!
I think it might be worth noting that TSG may not want to sit on items too long. So yes the credenza may have been able to fetch more, but it can take months to get that right buyer who is willing to pay it. Just speaking from my experience reselling mcm furniture.
Rachel, this looks amazing! 12:57 Just a little warning for anyone who works with a brush like this on metal, please cover your eyes very well, because it's possible for a metal splinter to get into your eye. If that happens your eye can start to itch, causing you to rub your eye and damaging it. The chance is very small but you really don't want that. A good pair of protection glasses will help! Edit: happy to see Rachel wears them later ^^
Absolutely love this series, Rachel does awesome with the restauration. And as an (mostly women company), I would love to see Endometriosis causes being helped out with donations, as they already receive very little government funding.
So glad that beautiful piece was saved! You put such love and hard work into the restoration and it came out STUNNING! I love giving old "garbage" a new life. They really don't make stuff like that anymore!
It's a long term project but opening a space where people can come restore their pieces in autonomy, under your guidance would be amazing. A collaborative TSG workspace. I mean I don't live in Toronto but I would love to have something like that in my city 😍
Wow! Beautiful work! I love the attention to detail, like catching the wood dust so the wood filler matches perfectly. Truly brought that piece back to life! What a transformation!! ❤❤❤
Just wanted to let you know, if you didn't already: there's something called a "rust converter", which allows you to convert rust into a type of primer for the metal. Makes the job A LOT easier (I had to restore 2 old windows last year and it was truly my savior lol)
I love this series. I think you should donate to a woman's shelter. When my mom and I fled a toxic home, the woman's shelter helped us start over with furniture, a place to live, my mom a job, and clothing. You never know the value of something is until you have nothing.
That credenza turned out AMAZING!! I definitely think you should look into a mental health / homelessness charity, as being in Toronto means you get a front row seat to how the system is failing on both fronts, and winter is coming.
I think the charity of choice should be local to where you guys live. Man, what an episode this was. The restoration on that credenza came out beautifully!
I love how you really restore the pieces, you don't just slap a coat of paint on it and call it done. You really give your best effort to make the piece look its best and stay looking great for a long time (scraping all that rust and using the proper primer and paint to refinish it for example), while also respecting the vibe and era of the thing you're restoring !
I literally said WOW outloud at the cabinet transformation!! That is stunning!!! Also loved the landlord calling you a sorry girl and not knowing your name😅
This is one of my favorite series on this channel. I love how you take some amazing & not so amazing finds & turn them into something unique & beautiful with little to no money. I also love that you are taking the profits and putting them towards a charity. I look forward to seeing future episodes & hearing which charity you are donating to. Well done!
Awesome video! That credenza planter is such an amazing piece. I am surprised Becky didn't scoop it up because it fits her aesthetic so well as it looks quite MCM to me with the stained wood.
The bookshelf turned out so good! How nice of Sheldon to just gift it to you for free! And Rob seemed like a really sweet person, too. :) All in all good vibes coming from this video! :)
Homeless Connect Toronto is doing great things for the communities that are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. I got to work with them during the summer - they're great people and are doing amazing things throughout the year!
Wow!! This series is really cool, thanks for flipping those and knowing their worth. It is awesome to see the outcome, the credenza just looks out of this world good 👏🏽
One of my favourite things about this series is just learning all the different upcycling techniques! I had no idea it was possible to save something that rusty - definitely will make me think twice before throwing things out in future 🤩
Your landlord is a goldmine! Not only is he sweet to let you redo the shared bathroom, but that he went and helped out a friend clean out his late mother's home and found a free furniture piece that you girls would appreciate!
Girl you blew life into that credenza. That was one of the most gorgeous transformations! I was hoping you guys would keep it to use, but what you're aiming is even more incredible. Much love from Montreal ❤
How lovely that your landlord is such a great partner in The Sorry Girls business. You do his bathroom, he gives you vintage pieces. And Rob is a champion for aiding you by selling the pieces.
My friend growing up, her grandpa was a cabinetmaker. He told me once that a lot of damage to wooden furniture are actually dents & not gouges. His tip was to get a wet bit of towel & wet but ring it out. Then get an iron & iron over the dent, the heat sometimes makes the dent spring back out. It takes time to do so it’s not a 5 minute job. He also said that you could leave the damp bit of towel on the dent overnight. I dropped a set of ladders on the banister in my house & made one hell of a mess of the banister. When I tried his technique it all but vanished. It’s worth a try before breaking out the wood filler if it’s just a dent & not a gouge.
I would recommend Scott Mission. I remember them fondly from when I was a little girl in Toronto. I am now 70 and have been very fortunate in my life. Places like Scott mission helped me so much when I was young. Also huge kudos Rachel. Great series
It takes a village!! You have a wonderful and keen eye. The thoughtful care in which you’ve restored these pieces is incredible. Partnering with Rob and the relationship The Sorry Girls have with Sheldon are invaluable to the community at large. When you do anything with a giving and loving heart, you will be successful in accomplishing your goals. Good for all of you in your “village”!❤
WOW 🤩 seriously girl you are so so good at restoring furniture, you may have a new calling here. But i would not be surprised if it was originally just like that and was painted yellow by a previous owner. I love it, great job. Oh and also your DIY wood filler was awesome! I tried that once but I messed it all up lol so bravo good for you.
Love this series! This and the home makeovers are my favourite by far. So glad you're doing something for charity too. No suggestions of charities as I figure Scottish charities are not what you're looking for, but I really wish you luck and I'm looking forward to the next installment.
In the step before you spray painted the metal, I would recommend using a rust converter or rust reformer spray for any residual rust before you prime. Rustoleum makes one. Otherwise Great job, one of the best transformation videos from you guys lately.
For which non profit to donate to, because sorry girls does home decor and renovations, I think it’s very suitable that you donate to an organization that helps with housing and shelter for those who are struggling to afford a living space or those who are homeless. The restoration of this piece was absolutely beautiful.
I've been watching the sorry girls since at least 2014 and I'm so proud of how far they've come!! I love Rachel and this series so much, I think it might be my favorite one!
I LOVED the cabinet! Wow.... This charity is a South African based one however they come to the aid of anyone anywhere in the world (including Canada during the wildfires), they are "Gift of the Givers" and are truly a worthy charity.
WOW, that credenza is amazeballs! You did such an amazing job. I'm not into art deco, but I'd totally want that piece in my house. It is timeless! And the chairs ... OMG. I would have loved to have those in my house! I'm loving this series, Rachel! Wasn't a huge fan of the side tables and mirrored coffee table, but the chairs and this credenza are STUNNING.
Love both pieces! David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is my favorite charity - they foster and rehab baby elephants, who are then released into the wild when ready :)
