I wonder if you can do it again BUT pour the resin in first in a mold, and then put in the records in one at a time so the resin coats the records completely. And to get the waviness, use the fast set resin due to the heat it produces and you can get some really groovy looks!

I scored my father's albums when he died, his collection included original Beatles albums. For me it is the memories attached to them. We would often sit with our parents when they played their music, they would talk about their memories of growing up that the music triggered. For my Mum her memory of seeing both the Beatles and The Beach boys when she was a teenager was vivid. Their quality collection of artists gave their children a education in what great music is and the joy of it.

he was actually cutting into that first part of the mold, that part didnt explode til it hit the floor, it sheared off cuz of the smooth surfaces of the vinyl dont bind well together, @nick zammeti next time i would suggest sanding the vinyls with 240 to give em extra grip to each other (it sheared off at a layer of vinyls)
@PurpleAmelia
@PurpleAmelia 2 года назад
I was wondering if maybe the fast resin was more expensive so he didn't want to use so much or maybe there's a limit to how much you can use at once, but if he made the mold smaller, just a little bit wider than diameter of the records, he wouldn't have to use so much
@fredrichardson9761
@fredrichardson9761 2 года назад
@@PurpleAmelia That's a pretty good take on it. One other thought, maybe hot water could be used to make the records wavy in advance and then they could be set in the less expensive resin? I think some waviness to the records plus a cool dye in the resin would actually be awesome! =)

It appeared to separate at the first "hot" pour and the second slow set pour. I wonder if the thermal reaction that warped the records also enable a better bond to the vinyl records. The remaining slow set also came apart in a couple of places. Possibly the warping allowed for a less linear bond layer which also would assist in keeping it together. The good news is you didn't get hurt and were able to salvage and use the coolest part.

For your next project with records: make some resin spacers cubes (a lot of them). Use the cubes as a spacer between each record, pour your resin. Your records will have a more pronounce wave to it and it would be locked into the resin better then being flat. You might have to drill air release holes in the records because of the pressure pot. Anyways, I made some knife scales and this is how I did it. Hope it helps you.

Having the records vertical instead of horizontal would have both reduced resin useage, as you could have made a mold with a round circumference and a small opening at the top, and allowed for a better resin envelopment. Horizontal increases the risk of bubbles significantly when you have flat items stacked on top of each other, as resin flowing around can trap pretty large air pockets between the layers. Or, as others have suggested, pour first and then insert objects, preferably at a slight angle.

"Vinyl" records are very sensitive to heat, and quick set resin (epoxy as we call it in North America) generates a fair bit of heat. So the heat of the curing process caused the 'rippling' of the records Nick. If you wanted it to be the same through out you needed to use all quick set resin, or to keep it out, use all Slow-set resin. I am pretty sure you knew this anyhow! Beautiful bowl to save the day too I mite add!! :)

Is it bad that when I saw it explode, then saw how upset you were, I was thinking.....it’s ok he’s gonna do something else with it that will be awesome. Side note, I thought your tip for the belt sander was a good one. The shorts are cool I think.

I think a vertical stacking of the 45s would look cool, with a label out each side. Use the Fast set, not only get the heat reaction. Add spacing between outer wall and last record, so you can be sure the labels survive. Thinking the effect of the layers revealed after turning would be awesome. And, with another "cool" record on the top... awesome project using mixed media, with that wood, make it a lamp... a funk-a-delic lamp for the outrageous...

I actually love that. I think it turned out better because using the wood really highlights the cool wiggle effect that happened with the bit you used the Fast resin on. That fast must get really hot...I wonder what else it might melt?!?

Kind of makes me think of a cat’s eye marble. The white vinyl is really eye-catching in there. What about painting resin between the records before the pour-over to encourage adhesion? Love all your projects-even the ones that maybe don’t succeed as intended.

In away watching this is very depressing even though I don't know who's artist records you are using. I have like 3 dozen LPs and I can't imagine using any of them for a project like this. Some of them are German music and right now I am trying to learn German. When I first saw you mixing up the resin I was thinking you will need a lot more resin than that. You didn't just break some records, you smashed them. LOL

Same here, and being honest I probably have 300 albums... I still have most of mine from my teens (1970s) and I spent years going through the vinyl at the local yearly library book sale (got easily 4ft of classical & old jazz, some in near mint condition).

Please don't waste your time by learning german. German is a language on the expressway to extinction. Right now we are undergoing a process by the ministry of truth to establish "newspeak" in the everyday life. So even when you learn german from historical sources and came to Germany no one will understand you. Learn something with quantum mechanics instead. THIS is the future. Greetings from Germany.😁

Hi Amazing Grace, it’s nice meeting you here.. I’m Richard by name, it would be nice getting to know you better, if that’s ok with you? Richard ... you men are unfortunate in that we women have had nothing but scams from random online greetings or FB requests so that one can never trust. That picture is almost two decades old now. Taken by my son in law when he was dating my daughter. My daughter died in 2019 so that smile has not seen the light of day since. 💕🐝🇺🇸

@@amazinggrace5692 Good morning, I’m so sorry about your daughter, God knows best and I’m sure she is in a better place now. Speaking of scam, I have been a victim not only women are prey. I guess I was too desperate searching for love again, my wife passed on 8 years ago, she died of cancer. It was really a sad experience for I and my daughter Lisa.

It looks like it failed where the fast set epoxy meet with the slow set resin. So I'm not so sure you couldn't turn the records like you thought if you use the slow resin all at once.

I was thinking the exact same thing...lol. There was no scuffing between the resin pours either which also aided in the separation. And that's also the diff between the wavy and nonwavy, the resin types. But still loved the project. 😊

14 minutes in and my question was answered haha "Don't smooth things just de-laminate in resin unless maybe layered with resin between each layer?" edit: Follow up, was the separation between the fast resin and the slow resin? I know my attempts at mixing resins don't always stick to each other...
