After the many times i recently resolved triple tactis or flame bufferlo's "discard 1, draw 2", and using decode talker heatsoul i can attest to that opinion. sometimes blindly drawing 2 doesn't do the trick. especifically searching the card you need does. however, blindly drawing 2 can be a good negate / ash bait
The silly thing about it is, Pot of Greed is mathematically negative cards in deck. A 43 card deck with 3 PoG is legitimately more mathematically consistent than a 40 card deck with the same 40 cards. Wild that going first is so reliably an instant win that your first main phase is too slow for a card to be worth using, no matter how good it is.
Not really, the pilot played really good and built a strong deck without really using floodgates, skill drain only came up once and still didn't be impactful
True Draco resurges every single festival/event in Master Duel because the deck is heinous. It should be no surprise that it's just a few cards away from competing at the top tiers of play against the most broken decks ever conceived. Honestly, every top 3 deck of the last several years is 1 wave of support or 1 format nuking ban list away from jumping right back to the top. Modern decks are absurd.
If they played like 20 games, I bet True Draco would walk away with more wins. Of course it also depends on who goes first, but True Draco just draws like infinite cards.
Ngl before halq was banned I would in a D/d legit end a board with a bsd with no links the halq and d/d ghost during their standby banish halq for formula and then synch for hot red archfiend during their turn
Not gonna lie, this tournament was less a battle of a banned cards and moreso a showcase of how Quantal and Halfmiss were miles ahead of most other pilots.
@@alfian4653 Funny enough they were actually praying to mill destrudo after last banlist in the OCG. Fortunately, they already moved on from that version
I am the Tear player, Chicken game was a big mistake, I should've played another copy of the Kash field spell. It's for synergy with Destrudo to cycle for the Perlerino. Chicken game was a really dumb choice.
"TrapsPlaysGames where's the negates?" "It's right there see I tributed auroradon." "You were suppose to equip it from grave." "Dude I'm gonna." "Oh really? So, equip it from grave." "Ok I will." *Auroradon banished* "I see the problem."
I think the true hilarity of D-Link is that it didn't even *touch* the Dragon Rulers. Quantal saw them, pushed them aside, and gunned it for that Elpy + Eclipse Wyvern duo.
I think there might be versions of the deck that would be playable, I built one with a small dragunity package 3 gold sarc 1 tempest 1 redox, can't remember what my search target for redodx was but I think it was good, would have had to extend to 60 cards with the one grass though. I think it might have been in the vicinity of playbable with 3 crossout to turn of ash before left arm offering and nib and droll as a response. I am not even close to good enough to represent the deck though realistically the dragon rulers represent like the 35th best dragon cards and you need to fit handtraps and staples
@@crazyn0074 No, the Rulers are bad at this point and as you can see from Quantal's list they're already full of better dragons. The added fact that they dont synergize with the Bystials (which are a morepowerful engine) is also a big point of contention, let alone the -1 effs they have. Dragon Rulers at 3 could possibly be their own deck but they would definitely not be played in Dragon Link.
Well, after watchkng that final, I've only got one thing to say... If MY girl and Rokket Tracer are both drowning, and I can only save one, you can catch me at my girl's funeral popping a card on the field to summon Rokket Recharger TO LINK OFF INTO BORRELEND DRAGON AND SUMMONING A ROKKET FROM GY TO SYNCHRO BORRELOAD SAVAGE DRAGON!!
I was so looking forward to the nightmare combination of Kashtira + Tomahawk + Auroradon, with all the cool things you can do with Iblee and stuff. Those Kash games were disappointing.
The Zoo deck was disappointing. I expected Labrynth Zoo, though I guess MBT wasnt going to showcase "floodgate stun: the deck" on his stream even though the deck only searches normal traps and has to hard open or draw into floodgates.
As it turns out, a deck that already basically FTKs going first doesn't do anything special when you add several Garnets to the deck to try making a shiny board for winning when going first instead of just playing the deck normally and winning when going first.
@@BorkBigFrighten2 Kash is one of the biggest auto-pilot decks this format, i swear to god. They basically made Floow more lame and turned that concept into a new archetype.
@@four-en-tee Going first, sure. Going 2nd with the deck does take a bit of finesse since despite it having access to great board-breakers, it's quite fragile.
nahhhh D-link was more like: thanks for elpy, pisty and eclipse wyvern swoswo was like: if my girl and protos are drowning and i can only save one, you better catch me at my girls funeral declaring dark and locking out my opponent from using a dark deck!
They should've played Labrynth Zoo and been on 30 floodgates, but we all know that would've been boring despite being the most optimal build for Zoo in this banlist format. It literally sets Zoodiac Combo from the deck among other disruption and shit, it would've been supremely busted to end on Drident and a shit ton of traps.
@@c_spare Are you under the illusion that that means anything? A Bo3 might be more accurate than a Bo1 but its still not that accurate. Nobody is saying your deck needs to play PoG to win, we are just saying its silly to not play it.
@@LuigisLegend For sure not terrible but the question would be is it ban worthy? Personally I think limited to 1 or 2 would be fine and I'm not just saying this because my ritual rogue deck needs it😅
The True Draco vs Spright match was one of the funniest matches I've ever seen. Not even Alex Cimo could top deck those DM staples like the Draco player did in game 3.
Had a lot of fun doing this despite that horrible round 1 game 2 nibiru (thought that firewall was gonna be apo and in that case that was the last chance to nib). If you ever need an evil dark warrior player I'm always down to play, just as long as you don't unban protos in which case I'm coming with lots and lots of non-dark extenders and fricken gearfried.
@@soup2504 I did expect it and I accidentally submitted a list that didn't have gearfried in it. I had 2 lists 1 with duo and 1 with gearfried. Meant to submit the one with gearfried which as you can see would have won me that game. You better believe I was kicking myself when I took a look at my list after I got picked only to realize the mistake I made. I just sort of had to hope for the best.
@@digitalduken9973 big rip but hey you might not have been able to go into it so the game couldve been lost anyways so dont feel too bad RNG may have not been on your side
Bro True Draco won after getting delinquent duo'ed. If we ran this through again True Draco could definitely take top spot if they play going first. The deck can just ignore like everything.
See now if the Swordsoul player attempted to summon Baroness before commiting to Mo Ye the last duel would have been incredibly different considering the any number of cards that could easily be drawn or searched off of Chixiao 1 Mo Ye 2.
He would probably still lose though I only saw the swordsouls player opening hand and I was screaming for him to make baronne first and then I look at the DL players hand and see the game decider veiler 😢
@@Malister23 If he had Baroness instead of Long Yuan the Saronir had no way to force out the Blackout and would have been forced to crash to start the combo. Sadly the Swordsoul player could have walked away with it, but made 1 tech error that ruined the entire game.
I think you should instead pay attention to the die rolls. D-link won every die roll they encountered. And you know D-Link going first was the issue when the blind second True Draco deck decides “no I need to go first against this deck”
Deep draw isn't the same as having the disruption needed to stop modern degeneracy from making a board(or to break said board after they made it with enough disruptions to kill your draw engine). Maxx "C" really is more busted than any draw spell because of that.
@@DCComicsAndSomeOtherThings Gemini Imps is a handtrap that negates a card that discards on resolution, then let's you draw a card. While situational, it keeps your handsize the same after use and can negate cards like Delinquent Duo. Would certainly be a niche card that only would see play if discarding effects became more common, but if Delinquent Duo became unbanned then it might become be a good side deck option.
@35:20 the Rukallos was only allowed to negate because the Runick player chose to Summon for some reason. You pick which effect to activate when you activate Runick Quick-Plays in the same way you pick effects for Talents, and in the same way if for instance you chose to "Take control of opponent's monster" with Talents, the opponent can't Ash you; you can't Rukallos the Flashing Fire if they chose to negate a monster.
It's incredible how Draco only lost to the one deck that's even more broken, if it was matched up against something else it would've gone to finals and lost to d-link there
"This is me unbanning two thirds of the yugioh banlist!" "MBT, this is the 7th time in a row you've shown Unbanning two thirds of the yugioh banlist in class."
Dragon Link is such a weird deck.. it feels like its always just 1-2 cards away from returning to Tier 1 Status. And hey.. Elpy and Eclipse would just do that. And the Deck got even stronger with the Bystials sliding in so effortlessly.
14:41 is the game is the exact reason I've always hated playing against True Draco. No matter what their board state is, you're always just 1 Card of Demise into Duality into Diagram into Heritage away from losing the game.
well you're right though. not even regarding the pilots, the single elim format doesnt do it justice. we need swiss rounds to see how the decks deal with other matchups. But I know doing that would probably double the time it takes to do the tournament (or more) so I understand why he doesn't do it.
I still kinda feel like Tear could've had a good chance if they didn't side Nibiru in for Swordsoul. That deck is notorious for how easily it plays around Nib, and putting in too many handtraps has a good chance of causing you to brick yourself (as seen here). They also had pretty terrible luck game 2, since they had 20 strong mills in the deck and they missed all of them from a mil 5. though siding in Nibiru seemed to be part of the problem again lol. Come on, they knew they were going first game 2 and they still made their deck weaker with Nib!?
I don't have a lot of experience against swordsoul and my side deck was complete garbage. Definitely could've done better, though I didn't replace engine for hand traps, I replaced the kaijus.
@@rocapbg9518My bad, that actually makes a lot of sense. Kaiju are obviously trash going 1st so you needed to side them out for something. Super Poly might have been slightly better going first, but you didn't have a lot of strong options. You really were mostly just super unlucky.
i feel like we need a bigger tournament, not just 16 decks mbt chooses with some of them just being a normal deck but with 1 pot of greed. i imagine some of those wouldnt even have made it to top cut. but what do i know
mbt talking about ad revenue while I smile at my adblocker :D anyway this was awesome as always! a few noteworthy moments: - 10:00 zoodiac traditionally performed very well in past tournaments but here it got eliminated 0-2 in the first round. wow - 18:05 true draco once again establishing itself as the big villain by beating splight in frightening and cruel fashion - 22:13 bad news: infernity at full power still isn't good enough because of the clear chokepoints. good news: archfiend can come back to 3! see? - 24:58 - dasher + nibiru was fucking hype! unfortunately he couldn't turn things around afterwards - 28:40 let this be a lesson to you kids: if you hold your nibiru for too long, it might be too late... - 40:09 absolutely tragic that we didn't get to see the ftk. incredibly unlucky! - 47:12 this whole matchup was like a 12 rounds boxing match but this was the early cut above the eye that led to TD's downfall. the big evil goes out in the 2nd round. btw eclipse wyvern has such cool synergy with bystials, it's a shame that they could never be played together irl - 52:29 free the cat! prankids is another streamlined deck that loses to 1 simple well-timed interaction. even 1 cat is not enough - 53:40 the lowpoint of the tournament. orcust player sacrifices anaconda to end on 1 negate but kash player summons a vanilla savage... welp - 1:05:20 sometimes it is just nice to watch a cool deck absolutely wreck a boring deck. dragons wiping the floor with mathmech was cool^^ - 1:13:40 didn't expect the final to be as good as it was. the dragon player played out of his mind. not even mbt's favourite mispronounced card LONG ONE could save the wyrms. amazing gameplay. not necessarily the best deck one, but the best player.
I love swordsoul, but I seriously downplayed it so badly and thought it would get eliminated immediately compared to the other decks. Also that kash player forgot d shifter lasts for two turns oof.
Thanks for the amazing video as always MBT. This kind of tournament really helps understand the differences between archetypes from many eras. The design philosophy they had, how they are played, what they lack, what they exceed at; how everything contrasts between one another.
Card Vomit decks like Dragon Link are always a couple cards away from being unbeatable as they either don't have garnets or can still go full combo with them effectively giving them no downsides or weaknesses.
Quantum a good player on d link who was smart and seem like he tested his deck vs most people who seem like it was their first time playing their decks.
something not mentioned enough is just how crazy good dlink player quantal think is. that deck is hard to play even without all the changes made by this new list, i really think if you gave that list to a regular player they wouldnt make it nearly as far
banning a large chunk would be super fun, see what happens when all the 'main' strategies are gutted. Or maybe do like a themed event where you have a representative of each major tribe (spellcasters, dragons, warriors, fish, zombies, etc) could be fun too
Farfa is doing that series rn and it's wild. Predaplant was basically broken in it. I also died a little inside that non floodgate gravekeeper beat madolche. Like it actually won a game.
Oh wow, true draco even without floodgates almost wiped the floor with the tournament again, what a surprise, it's almost like master piece is a problem
It took a whole 20 seconds for the Swordsoul player to shit the bed. I know they ended up going far but holy hell that Game 1 setup and the Blackout play in response to Book :x
No Adamancipator in the Tournament with this banlist?! If I had known this I would have send in a list myself. I mean Agido, Mudora, Block, Meow-Mu, Grass? Hopefully the next Masochist Banlist Tournament takes place before Superheavy Samurai gets hit. Would be really sick to see that deck at that power level.
The reason why adamancipator was not chosen was because it was deemed too uninteresting and too generic good stuff that other decks were deemed more interesting for the tournament. There was only a certain amount of slots as you know, and the tournament organizers wanted to have a mix of current meta decks, ftks and jank decks, and evil combo decks like mine, along with fan favorite moron decks like true draco and zoodiac.
To be fair the banlist helped them the most especially with elpy and eclipse wyvern. My jaw dropped cause I forgot 1 eclipse wyvern is basically a deck of eclipse wyvern
tbh it needs a quantal thinker to make some of those plays with dragon link I played a heck lot of combo but I can only reach like 80% of what d link is able to achive with my skillset. That said let's continue the grind
I would really like Konami did this. That said, as fun as this was, few things are lacking. 1) Everyone should be allowed to play any deck. Number one factor in determining how good a deck is is representation. Even the best decks can brick once, but that is often absorbed by other decks.Having one Spright and one Kashtira with the worst pilots possible doesn't prove anything about those decks. 2) Number 1 was the main concern, but there should be at least 3 or 4 tournaments with the same list. That all being said, there were enough tournaments to conclude that Wind-Ups and Infernity suck and should be released. Also, would like to see Tomahawk since it does nothing in the OCG or MD.
MBT has run amok with too much power. He has transcended card text. Edit: have you considered paying royalties to lithium2300 for "time for that all important game 3" 😂
Its always an interesting watch, to be fair, but Im also left with the same takeaway of "What an idiot" or "Just why?" True Draco is a problem every single tournament and he insists on trying to make it okay while giving it enough to become relevant again. D-link was insane, but a combination of errors in judgement. Protos was definitely a mistake. Love these, but you gotta try and actually succeed sometime. That and maybe run double elim or swiss to get a better idea of how things perform long term, but i understand how hard that is to arrange.
