I Upgraded to a Hisense U8H - My Impression

The 55" Hisense U8H. This isn't a review. It is, however, my first impression and quick overview and the reviews that led me to my purchase.
The main reason for my upgrade was my old TCL TVs would lose sound through the soundbars. The TCL TVs in the family room and master bedroom were exactly the same model. They both had 2017 NVIDIA Shield Pro's the only difference was one had a Nakamichi sound bar while the other had a Vizio soundbar. With exception of the soundbars and all other things the same with the same sound issue on both... it came down to either a TV or Shield issue. Well I upgraded the family room setup to the Shield Pro 2019 and while the issue improved greatly...I still had to turn the TV, soundbar, Shield combo on and off a few times to bring sound back on occasion...this was much worse with the bedroom setup where even control of volume is lost (probably part of the flickering issue mentioned in the video). And I went through the whole troubleshooting cycle of power cycling, firmware upgrades, factory resets and none fixed the issue...hence changing/upgrading to a different TV.

I love my UH8 accept for the cluster of dead pixels it has. Screen uniformity is beautiful so I will deal with it as long as it doesn't get worse

Great info. Unfortunately my wife HATES the Google TV OS. If I hook a Roku stick up to one of the HDMI ports, can I get the TV to open directly to the Roku homepage when I turn on the set, or would I have to first work through the gogle homepage?

Yes. Under the "Power & Energy" menu > "Power On Behavior" > set it to "Last Used Input" This will obviously change if the input is changed when the TV is powered off...

...depends on the TV size, but for my 55-inch I didn't use the feet at all but I did measured the attachment points underneath to be roughly 34 inches apart

Good luck, my U8H lasted 2 years and now i have 2 yellow clouds on the screen. They may have a great picture but i really question Hisense build quality.

eh, then oh well if that happens to mine... TV replacement at that point would be an upgrade in technology...could possibly be that you got a bad batch/lot? My TCL's were only 2-3 years old...the one in the bedroom was on its way out and there were some rare audio issues with the other. But so far so good with the Hisense...but thanks for the heads up, I'll keep a look out!

Do you have the capabilities to hook a pc or gaming console up too it. I've been hearingix reviews hooking up a gaming pc up to it and really would like this TV for light gaming but I want vrr and 2.1 and all that

HDMI ports 3 & 4 are v2.1 and it does have VRR...I may hook my Xbox to it to check it out at some point...

@@cooptonian yeah I've been reading that like there's two different settings, one thru like the quick settings and the other only can be accessed thru the main settings and it has had people not able to either figure out how to properly set up the TV for vrr support to work properly and or they could get it to work on console but not a pc

...LOL, I purchased it from my local Best Buy online for home delivery. I wasn't even trying or even knew it was hard to find from what I am hearing...I think at the time it showed 8 in stock and at that price I purchased 2...

Sucks that our local SG variant of the U8H uses IPS panel (vs superior VA panel), ViDAA OS (vs superior Google TV OS), fewer dimming zones (100+ vs 500+), worse contrast, 300 nits dimmer, no subwoofer, no Dolby Vision gaming, no Apple Airplay, Homekit, Chromecast, use less power and weigh less, but cost more! 😪

@@Jeschitown SG is Singapore. Likely Asia and Australia will get the IPS version. I believe Europe will also get the IPS version, with the name U8HQ. Amazon should be US's & Canada's VA version.

@@cooptonian At least TCL sells their differing versions of miniLED TVs under different name - e.g. R635, R646 & R655 in US while we Asians get the C825 & C835 ... all retaining VA panels with slight differences in other areas. Hisense is the worst! They're selling their downgraded U8H as the U8H here, aka same name but completely different specs! Unacceptable!

...really depends on your budget and use case. I most watch movies and shows...for that I think it is definitely worth it. It covers ever HDR format (HLG, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+) usually any other TV would be missing 1 or 2 of those. While a dedicated receiver or soundbar will still be superior, the sound is better than most (in my opinion) due to the built-in subwoofer on the back. And is great in a really bright room due to its capable brightness...

Yeah I was put off by that too, about the settings... But I also checked RTINGS and their extensive test results as well as Stop the FOMO's analysis... Pretty much all in agreement it's great TV for all it offers at the price... May be even cheaper next month during black Friday

i wanna getting 75 inch of this, wish was comes in 85 inch too , BUT wanna wait till NeXT month blk Friday/Cyber Monday might get better deal , at this time is really hard to find one in stock in any size anywhere ....i have 55 inch TCL 6 series bought couple of years ago & hardly use it & still works great , BUT not fan of f*n Roku...Chromecast TV all the wayyyyyyy ...BUT defiantly getting one of this in 75 inch next month, great looking TV👍 MY fav UTUBER comes to TVS reviews is Digital Trends & RTINGS only! hahah JoelsterG4K, he works in game shop B.S

...the one I replaced in the family room I was thinking of returning and paying the difference to go to 65" but at the time it was near double the price and so wasn't worth it to me, if it were a difference of $200-300 I was down. As you stated it may be closer to those kind of prices on black friday/cyber monday... And yean, by and far I use RTINGS as they throw a crazy amount of tests on TVs. I am looking at them now for a mid-upper camera before the year is out...

@@cooptonian i don't know what u talking about, this TV 75 inch is $1500, 65 in $1000 ..on this sales going on now BUT if u lucky to get one in stock , I'm trying to get 75 inch for weeks now no luck from BESTBUY OR AMAZON , BUT if i was U ..i would return it & get 65 for family room ...Family room should be BIGGER TV at least 65/75 inch TV ...55 is good for bedroom, anyway good luck Hope u find a good camera ...BUT wait for blk Friday & cyber Monday always get good deals 👍

You're right! ...I am checking now and the 65" dropped by $400...when I was looking at it (at time of delivery) it was $1399, hence why I said if it was only $200-300 more than the 55" I would have exchanged it...oh well...lol
