Hey Dorian, I believe that you definitely missed the mark on this phone. Felt the same way in the beginning and then realized this phone has brought peace and planning into my life. Music like coffee, can become a crutch. No music no problem. I also feel that I am much more intentional of what I listen to when using the dashboard. It worked for me. I’m sorry that it didn’t work for you.

Great and honest review man! I have to say though, people who want this type of phone do not want anything but the phone and maybe text and some us, not even that. So the things that you didn't like, was exactly what I would expect from a "dumb" phone. You are a "smartphone" guy, and you probably, as you have stated, have to use other tactics to reduce your dependence on technology or social media. As for me, your review gave me the insight I needed, so thank you!! Keep up the good work!

it's called light phone for a reason lol. It's supposed to bring back life before "apps / noise" the whole idea of this was to have something that didn't track you like facebook / google etc. Just stick with an iphone if you want everything else.

I really appreciate your honest review. I just pre-ordered one. In an earlier video I think you mentioned you tried the phone because you were too attached to your smartphone. Do you think all the “excuses” why this phone doesn’t work for you, why you are so attached to your smartphone. Smartphones can become like our pacifier or binky if we are not too careful.

(Not to sound too assertive but) and I get that it’s just a review but Bro, all you have to do is use it what it’s intended for. It’s just a phone as it states and you’re digging deep trying to get the most out of the most simplistic piece of hardware. You’re probably not a minimalist that’s why. Different way of thinking different way of investing. That’s how I see it.

Kinda reminds me of my LG Prada phone I had back in 2007. It's funny how times change, back then people were telling me I was crazy to spend €600 on a phone and that they could never get used to typing on a touch screen 😂

I have a CAT S22 flip and it's the perfect balance between a smartphone and dumbphone. I can do all the banking/RU-vid/google searching a normal phone can but it's clunky enough that I'll only use it if I have to. Also the phone plan is dirt cheap.

@dorian curious if it’s easy to swap back and forth phones using mint, as that’s the service I have. I thought this might be a good phone for time while I’m with my family but I do need some of the smart phone features during the work week

It's just not a smooth enough bridge from smartphones. I'm all for utility over excessive infinite feeds, but the utility should be top notch and it should have all the best utility features we love from smartphones like a better navigation system, smoother more comprehensive texting experience, a crude music and podcast streaming service, etc. That is the only way it could truly replace it. So for what it is, definitely worth only $100.

Lightphone2 sounds "almost" perfect. If they release Lightphone3 that has faster texting larger keyboard would be just a ton better. Im so so thankful I watched this video before making the decision to buy it. Thank you man !

I used it for my only phone for a year in 2020. I was also traveling across the US for three months on a motorcycle. I finally had to go back to a smartphone. I love the Light Phone 2 for what it is. But, it could be a lot better. Everything feels like it's only half done. It feels like a Beta phone. Not only does it feel half finished, nothing has been done to improve it in years. Their development is next to none by how slow it is. I don't think anyone is working there on the phone anymore. My list of improvements to this phone are: 1. Larger and faster screen the size of the device. 2. Much bigger battery. I can get about 12 hours and I want 48. 3. Finished apps with top quality UI/UX. 4. Google Maps / Spotify. 5. 5G networking. This would make it a hit. I think it won't be done though. I think I'll have to do it myself.

This guy sounds like he wants the Light Phone to be a smart phone. It is not. The purpose of the phone is to provide a cell phone that is not addictive. Therefore, someone should not get this phone if they want music streaming, amazing driving directions, etc. If you want to actually engage with the real world, full of real people , however, this is the phone for you 😊

Do you have to go through the dashboard to have every podcast episode?

Rather than MInt ,why jot just get visible where its unlimited everything for 25$ ?

Dear phone manufacturers: please make phone models that are more like this one. You don't have to go all the way, but all I want are texts, phone calls, a camera, some display of photos/MMS messages, and navigation. The rest is expendable at best. Small is good.

Mint mobile is great, I buy the yearly plan for like $200.

Will stick to iPhone I use some screen time blocking apps and if I don’t have any apps with feeds I don’t get addicted to it

I think the whole point of this phone is to not have all that. Talk, maybe text. Thats it. I get the review though, it was very detailed and well done.

Also there's a cool app that servers to make you use your phone less, time limits and app blocking by time of the day

Sorry, but you missed the entire point of this phone. The point is to disconnect and not be texting. The fact that texting is there is just for high needs or emergencies.
