Hiking tip - go slow, like only 60% effort. Keep your HR in zone 1-2. Keep eating and drinking throughout. I learned this from a Sherpa guide in the Himalayas. You’re so fit you would have no trouble with an 8-hour hike once you get the technique. Trail maintenance is usually organised by the local or national park authority, sometimes it’s done by volunteers. Materials may be taken up in vehicles via fire roads, harvested from the area around the trail, or occasionally dropped in by helicopter. Other times people will hike it all in or even use mules, it depends on the location. You’re right to recognise the trail builders, it’s tough work!
Oh Allana! Hiking is amazing. You have to give it a second chance. The connection with nature is like nothing else. You don't have to be going fast. And the more you do it, the more you will crave longer distances and more challenging routes. I love these vlogs ❣
Hiking is literally my fave outdoor activity, and that’s coming from someone in the god-awful heat of Phoenix! Anywhere in BC would be such a treat to hike regularly!!! Maybe try a harder hike on a weekday to avoid the crowds? 🩵🌲🌞🍄🌿🩵
Hiking has improved my mood, my health, and my outlook immeasurably. I’d highly recommend it. My hubby and I like the lesser utilized trails so we can enjoy nature in peace!
Hiking is so good. I love connecting with nature so much. I unplug from everything. No music. Nothing. Just me in nature. I love a good hike…refreshes my SOUL. I live in Virginia and we have the most beautiful mountains and so many trails. We are one of the greenest states in the US. You should come. We have falls too!!!!
I’ve done some amazing hiking all over Vancouver Island in the fall. Weather is not too hot, less people, beautiful fall colours. The Sombrio Beach waterfall was my favourite and Tofino actually has some decent easy hikes. Highly recommend! ❤
Do you go to the island for the day to do this?! Or do you always go for a weekend and stay?? I’m also embarrassed to admit how little time I’ve spent on the island (it’s zero 🫠) because it always seems like such a trip!!
@@allanaramaaThe ferry ride is what’s the killer for me - I lived in the island for a decade and it was the reverse for me. My suggestion is make it a weekend trip - no rush and you can time/plan well to take in all that the Island offers. 🎉
@@allanaramaa I’m from Ontario but a friend of mine lives in Victoria so whenever I visit we rent a car on the island and do a week long road/hiking trip. I agree that just going to the island for a day would be too much trouble!
@allanaramaa its worth the trip to the island! Fantastic hikes, beautiful Air BnB’s to stay in! Make it a weekend! Mystic Beach is an epic beach and hike! I lived in Victoria for 15 years; grew up in Duncan, and just moved back to Duncan to buy a house. I hardly ever get off the island to go to Vancouver because it’s so busy! 😊
Happy long weekend fellow Canadians/BC’ers! The sun is out and we will be at the beach soaking up these last rays. Can’t wait to see where you are off to!
I'm just like you: I like quick hikes with a view but HATE really heavy long ones... Also, the All'Antico Vinaio sandwiches in Rome and they are God sent 😍 Hope you have an amazing trip!
Yaaaay! So proud of you guys for doing your first official hike! I moved here from Ontario 5+ years ago, and hiking around BC has been amazing. There are definitely lots of great hikes that are chill (beginner-friendly) and not touristy! Perhaps a hike meet-up with your local YT followers?!?! xo
A tip for your travel/hiking goals (from your previous vide - travel to places like Switzerland in early autumn. Stunning weather, not too hot, perfect for hikes, and so many trails and options.
I’m from the US and Vancouver to me is the most beautiful city and has the best hiking in North America. Just take your time and make sure you can talk comfortably while you walk. Remember you played tennis beforehand so that would be tough for anyone. That view makes it worthwhile! Quick tip on your tennis form…you have a tendency to lift your one leg at every swing and what that does is put your body off center so you lose control of your placement and you’re also losing power. Keep both feet on the ground and try to be center before your next stroke (or swing). Trust me on this…ask your coach and I’m sure he’ll confirm. You’re doing great keep up the amazing work!
Next time you’re in LA and staying on the westside do Temescal Canyon or Will Rodger’s! Fun, gorgeous, way more nature-y than Runyon but still an “LA” hike. I’m from the PNW and love hiking more here bc it’s more mellow!
W/ the orange shirt, a nice classy flowy long white/beige skirt or a white or beige short and some sandals (flat or heels) or sneakers to be comfy, it can be cute and nice.
I’m so happy to see you out hiking. It’s one of my top exercises of choice. Hiking is just slightly more strenuous walking, you can do it, anyone can! 🥾 ⛰️ 😊
Murrin was the hike that made me fall in love with hiking. Its just south of Squamish in BC. A little baby climb but fun ropes on the way down. Truly feels like a playground. And the views are unmatched. Reward to effort ratio is perfect.
A short/easy beginner hike in Squamish is Mamquam Falls, It is stunning! I use to be indifferent about hiking but over the last two years I have fallen in love with hiking.
Keep hiking! Especially with where you live. Bring fun snacks and get yourself a bladder, it makes staying hydrated on longer hikes easy and fun. You're so fit already, hiking will just add that non-competitive physical activity and connection to nature that so many of us crave.
You talking in the mirror about getting little sleep and how you're doing your best had me laughing so hard, because this is also me, every day. So happy that you're starting your hiking journey! Quarry Rock is such a fun starting point! and she do have a spicy start. I don't even wear a sweater to start on hikes any more because I know ill be taking it off in a hot minute. My partner is always saying, "be bold, start cold". As for hiking suggestions! I have a many a hike to yet experience but I can share some of my faves and starters! One of my favourite north shore hikes is Mount Seymour. It's close by, and has one of the best effort to view ratios. It has three peaks, but most people just go to the first (pump peak), and has such a great 360 mountain view! You'll love it! You're also close to Anmore, which has the Diez Vistas trail around Buntzen lake! The Diez Vistas has a few steep sections, but you'll be fully equipped with your new trail runners and strong gams. This hike is loveeeely, and has multiple beautiful look out points. There is also a Lake loop if you just want to go for a walk with less elevation. Bunzten Lake baseline is so beautiful. I'd imagine it would be so stunning in the fall with the leaves changing colour in the surrounding forest. I'm sure you've heard of Joffre Lakes, but I'd highly recommend it as well. This is usually our go to hike when we have family and friends come to visit. It's a bit of a trek to get to being past Whistler. But it's a great opportunity to show case and appreciate the gorgeous views on the sea to sky high way, and is another hike with an excellent effort to view ratio. Unlike Mount Seymour where you get 360 mountain views, you get to be up close and personal with the mountains as your travel to three glacier fed lakes. The colour of the water and beauty of the mountains and glacier is unmatched. It also has lots of friendly grey jays who can come and land on your hand if you hold your hand out (with or without a little treat). Also to note that this hike often requires a trail pass. Water falls: There is the stunning Shannon falls in Squamish. You can park at Shannon falls parking, take the short walk up to the falls, and then continue on to do the Chief. The Chief has a spicy stair case to start and finish, so just pace yourself in the beginning and you'll be great! You also get a view of Shannon Falls as you hike up. Mamquam Falls in Squamish is also very beautiful, and is a short 2km hike. Norvan Falls in Lynn Valley. This is a longer hike 14k with little elevation. But would be really beautiful for the fall when you want to go on a long walk with the changing leaves and a waterfall finish. That's all for now! I'm so excited for you to climbbbbbbb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, till you find your dream (sound of music). And if you're looking for a hiking friend, I'd love to and would happily accompany you on all or any hike!
So proud of you guys. I’ve hiked most trails in Yosemite to a lot of the waterfalls. They’re so beautiful. Some were all day hikes but worth it. I actually got engaged there overlooking the valley. It was stunning ❤
Definitely recommend Golden Ears Provincial Park, lower falls trail is more like a nice walk and Mike lake as well for a quick loop, but there are more challenging hikes as well. Also, Rolley Lake in Mission has a Great Lake loop plus waterfall addition if you want a proper hike
I’m in the camp of people who love hiking, so I second all the advice they share. Pls don’t give up, it takes some time to build stamina and get courage for longer hikes but it’s absolutely worth it♥️ Plus Canada has so much to offer in that regard. I started hiking only after I moved to Canada and I live in Toronto so views sadly are not as great but now every year we have at least one trip that includes some sort of hikes. Also, this year we will do our first multi day hike (4 days) a bit scared about how it will go but very excited ☺️
So jealous of your beautiful autumn vibes! Here in Italy we are still baking in freakin 30C 😂 btw you should try neats or cakes for n*ppies cover! They are much larger and literally invisible under anything you wear, they were a game changer for me this year
With your flexible working schedule try to hike on weekdays to avoid the crowds. Fall is the best time of year to hike! Cool breezes, changing colors, fresh smells…Try looking up some hikes on all trails. You can sort by length and difficulty. 😊
It takes me a while to get back in the flow of my golf swing after lessons. But so important to stay on track and not let bad habits form. Orange and white….white outfit with picante makeup 🥰
Yay! You got a hike in! Hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?!? Love the new Lululemon bag & shoes and the dark forest green legging and sports bra! Tis the season! The package from Dior was gorgeous... and with the headphones! Brilliant. Safe travels on this next trip! Xoxoxo 😊
I travel from Ottawa to BC/Alberta to hike (3 years in a row so far)! Though I love the big 8 hour hikes, shorter ones can be just as beautiful! On one of our rest days, we went to Lindeman Lake in Fraser Valley. The lake is an amazing emerald green colour! I even saw a couple of guys wearing slides on the hike there! My favourite views so far are the ones overlooking Howe Sound (St Marks Summit, Brunswick Mountain) 🌄
I live in Port Moody, BC and there are a few around me! One is across from quarry rock. It’s called jug island. Saint marks summit and eagle bluffs are both beginner level hikes 😊
Lan, It’s wild watching the likes rack up on one of your videos as I watch it. Thanks for this vid on your trip to NYC. I NEVER get tired of watching videos of RU-vidr’s I follow in NYC. I hope you have a lovely weekend wherever you are. 😊
Not sure if this orange and white event has in fact already happened but why not try the white cotton a-line skirt you love with the Ky top? Sounds like a cutie little fit! Also love the idea of all white and orange accessories to go with Picante. Just some thoughts from me 🤗 Love seeing Dan in the vlogs too
Beginner hike recommendation! The first peak of the Chief hike in Squamish. Waterfall kind of at the start, and right next to Shannon falls, amazing views at the end. Have breakfast and a doughnut at Fox and Oak before then grab some sandwiches at Buvette for at the top. Should clock in at 3 hours including time relaxing at the top!
As someone who has been a diehard gym goer for over a decade, like cardio & weight lifting, Lululemon shoes are actually the best. I’ve had Nike airmax, shoes specifically designed for bodybuilding, etc, and the Lululemon shoes do truly take the cake. Very true to size and so many great options!!! Enjoy the end of your summer in your fabulous shoes!
In terms of hiking, there are a lot of easy trails up Cypress (Bowen Lookout, St. Marks Summit, Eagle Bluffs, etc), Seymour (Tim Jones, Dog Mountain) and Squamish (Murrin Loop, Shannon Falls, Brandywine Falls, etc.). If you want to be straight in alpine, go to Whistler for summer access 🏔🥾
When I lived in Vancouver my favourite hike was Dog Mountain, even better in March/April because the snow makes it easier because it makes it more level than up and down. Lake Joffree up in Whistler was also BEAUTIFUL, I used crampons in November because it started getting icy. I won't do a hike if I don't get a view at some point, and both of these are WORTH it. ❤
To think I was gonna pass up this video! Talking into the trunk of the Car!!! Cool to see more of behind the scenes Dan! I’ve never heard of stairs on trails for hiking, is that Canadian because you guys are more Outdoorsy than everyone else…❤
Ma’am, you HAVE hiked before! Years and *years* ago you did an early sponsored post with a Greek yogurt (?) brand, where you added a bunch of seasoning to it and brought it hiking and dipped baby carrots in it on the hike for a snack. It has obviously imprinted on my brain in some kinda way, but I clearly remember the hike being a part of it! OG viewer memory!
Hahahhaa I am SCREAMING AT YOU REMEMBERING THE OIKOS 😂😂😂😂😂 thats the beginning girl thank you for being here all of this time 😭🫶🏻 To be fair this is true but I said we’ve never hiked in BC 😅 which seems hilarious given that we happily “hike” everywhere else haha help
Allana! You guys have to do Lindeman Lake hike in Chilliwack, so beautiful and a good intermediate hike. Also the Chief in Squamish is great too, it does get busy at the first peak so I suggest going a little extra to the 2nd or even, 3rd peak! Happy hiking 😊
Cracking up at the Dior ear buds! They go with your Dior yoga mat! 😂 I miss hiking. I had a knee injury and now that’s all healed, I’ve been dealing with plantar fasciitis. I just wanna get put into the woods!😢
lol, I call the grind a work out, not a hike. As you dip your toes into hiking, Lynn head waters is a good place for a leisurely hike in nature. It’s at the top of Lynn Valley in North van. ❤
Hiking doesn’t always have to involve elevation! I live in Illinois so many of our hikes are like longer flat walks through nature trails in marshlands, forests, and prairies. I would say your Griffith Park walks in LA are still hikes! Haha I am also always thinking about who built the trail!
Oh gosh I did the Howe Sound Crest Trail (for those living in BC) 13 hours of moving time, slept on a mountain and truly thought I wasn't going to make it. Was so beautiful but I just...... I cannot fathom ever doing that sh*t again
Mountain goats 😂😂😂😂 the way I laughed out loud at that self description 😂😂😂😂😂 The dreams I dream of being someday sponsored by Lululemon. I’m currently on day 7 of 75 Hard (I needed a full physical/mental reset!) and all my fits are the Align 6” shorts, matching colored Energy Bra and a Love Tank in a complimentary color because I don’t go just sports bra, yet!!! Working on being a powerful strong woman!! That being said, I’ve been out by 7am on workdays, 8:30 on the weekend so far, for a little morning walk. It’s okay to not be a mountain goat and just a girl who walks! I mostly do sidewalks along a quite busy roadway cause I’m alone and I’m not about to be stollen, but there are gorgeous trails all around where I live, that circle around all the lakes I’m blessed to live near, and when someone will come with me, those trails are not hikes, but just a beautiful walk in nature! And that’s okay! No mountain goat over here! lol. This vid had me giggling through most of it. And so much Dejan on the vlog this week! Hi Dejan!!! I hope wherever you’re off too is fabulous! One last touch of summer while Canada is welcoming fall. ☀️😎
I recommend driving up to Squamish BC where they have a lot of beautiful hikes, I believe the Stawamus Chief Trail (aka Stawamus Chief First Peak) hike is one of the most famous in the area with beautiful views and branches off into multiple other trails (it’s about a 4hour hike if you spend time at the top and I would give it a moderate difficulty rating, with a high elevation gain, stairs at the start then chains and ladders at the first peak, eat your lunch at the top and go on a clear day).
I appreciate hearing someone else say that they don’t really like hiking. I live in Utah and it’s basically a sin that I don’t like hiking. I have really bad asthma and hiking at altitude is really not fun for me. I’ve finally stopped agreeing to go after I had an asthma attack hiking up to a lake a few years ago because that was truly miserable.
My favourite was Stawamus Chief! Challenging and scary for sure (I’m from Toronto) but so stunning! You can decide which of the three peaks you want to hike to.
Love these vlogs 🤍 Is it just me or are you suddenly saying ya’ll consistently😂 I feel like I’ve never noticed you do this and now you do it constantly 😂
Sounds like tennus is really important to you and it was really important to me at one point in my life until I tore my ACL while playing tennis with my son anyway your form looks nice but try not to pick up your leg whenever you before hand stroke good luck!!!
Omg yes!! I hiked Peak District when I lived in UK, the nature, hills with sheep scattered around and little gates to pass through, truly beautiful ❤️ Also great for Jane Austin fans 😅
When u were telling us about the shoes and backpack.. i saw the green leggings and was like beeeetch she not gona tell us she has those new lulu aligns on too!???? 😅and theeenn u said it 😂❤
OMG all that Venco Dutch liquorice when you're checking out at that café post hike! 😍Do Canadians love salty liquorice too, or was this an inexplicable one-off? Also agree re: hiking, I don't mind a 3 hour hike but 8 hours? I get so bored (even though surrounded by beautiful nature) 🤭
I got some trail Hokas in a light pink color; awesome shoes, but bad color choice as they get dirty so fast but I feel like I’m on a cloud. 😅 I love your vlogs, Dan, Meryl and you!❤
