Is it really about the money? At what pay rate does it become worth it to risk your own personal safety or life?

In my opinion, the protection or sacrifice of life (in terms of employment) is tied to the scope of work. Law enforcement and security are similar, but vastly different in the scope of what is asked or required from their officers so the level of willingness to take or sacrifice life raises or falls with respect to the profession. Soldiers make much less than either generally, but the scope of their work places them in much closer proximity to life and death situations. Much like you alluded to, it comes down to the mindset of expectation.

Every job worst case scenario is usually spelled out in its training. Military recruits all do basic traing...but then they go to a seperate school for their MOS which has specific training for their job. Money isnt the issue there...survival is. Same with police, they are state officers, sworn in to uphold the constitution. Depending on their background, it can take 6-48 months for them to be fully ready for the job. Depending on their specific job within policing/law enforcement, they recieve specific training. Then there's security...for all intent and purposes...if youre yalking about $15-20 an hour..then we are talking about a 40 hour training on state statutes governing private security and another 28 hours on firearm provisions should one want to be armed within a private security capacity(Florida Requirements). With all do respect to the job...these are minimum requirements for knowledge on what private security IS NOT. This is because prior to state mandated training, security officers violated peoples basic constitutional rights on a regular basis. Its not really law enforcement. Its policy enforcement, policy of a building, policy of a business...thats it. If someone gets physical ...we can protect ourselves to the same degree. However, we cannot pull out a firearm or any weapon and engage that person. Also we should not be escalating a situation . Even police and military...who are trained hundreds.. thousands of hours have specific criteria before that can physically restrain or attack someone. Ive had to train a lot of security personal when I was a supervisor and ironically, the former military and police were the most chill and grasped the job easily. It was the wannabe super cops who caused the most issues. If youre not military or active sworn in law enforcement responding to domestic violence, fights and assaults...why would you want to go beyond observe and report? Would you want a security officer to go "hands on" with your child or spouse? That is there for safety reasons... usually to protect the public from ignorant, uninformed guards.

Well think of it this way. The difference between what law enforcement does vs what private security does has to do with their area of jurisdiction and what power they have. For instance, if a police officer observes or gets a call about a shoplifting or an armed robbery in progress at a local gas station/convenience store, then based off of that situation, they have to determine how many officers are they gonna have to bring with them plus how many service weapons will there be but that’s only because they’re acting on reasonable suspicion. As for private security personnel, observing, reporting, detecting and detering crime should be the only roles that they have unless if a suspect commits a felony or a misdemeanor crime on private property cause they have more power on private land then the police do in the community areas. Does that make sense to anyone?

Well first thing is that $40 vs $20 is a HUGE difference. $20/hr you’re stuck in the hood with gun shots going off (like I did the other night). $40/hr you’re in a luxury apartment or can buy a home. That being said, of course money isn’t the ONLY driving factor for why people do things, but I also don’t think we should ignore the value of money. People say “money doesn’t buy happiness” but I always respond “but it does make you comfortable, less stressed, safer, and give you opportunities to pay for school, move, and do MANY other things that contribute to happiness”. Just my thoughts on it

If you work security, police, fire, EMS, it's about the passion of the field that you have for it, If it's about money then you will never be satisfied in what you do, me it's about how much like doing what I do and how I do it and the people I work with and the people I deal with and as I getting paid for what I do I am satisfied...

This is a difficult question because it depends on the individual. I think most people watching your channel are part of the 1% club who do it for principle. No amount of money is worth your life. Also, when I put myself in dangerous situations, I say I do so because it is my job. I don’t say “ well, I am getting $42 an hour plus retirement benefits.”

Stealing is stealing no matter what. If we allow even for a small amount like a candy bar to be taken, that’s not what it’s about It’s about principle like you said. It’s about knowing we are what stands between right and wrong Anybody can be that line that stands for the right thing In todays world where morals are decaying It’s more important now, then ever before Our job is to make sure the right thing always wins. All it takes for evil to prevail, is for good me. To Do nothing If you say “it’s ok for minor theft” we allow major thefts later, due to no consequences. Somebody has to stand for the right thing, and too many people now days. Don’t want to do the right thing, because it’s not “easy” To hell with that I’d rather Stand with God and be judged by the world, then stand with the world and be judged by God

In regard to security and law enforcement individuals decide to take the job knowing the risk. Law enforcement have no legal obligation to protect anyone, so they chose to do so. Both jobs are about the same, as you never know what the day will hold and who you may encounter. At the end of the day it’s all up to the individual if they feel what they get paid to do is worth it.

BTW, I forgot to mention in video and comment; instead of chasing after someone and going hands on for theft under 500, obtain warrants which is the responsibility of the manager of the store. Or even when obtaining an incident number via local PD, give picture to the officers so they can try and track them or maybe they already know whom they are. In which you can then obtain warrants for theft. There are many ways out there to deal with shoplifting and other crimes than going hands on as security. Can’t and wont get into full details but a recent incident that occurred where I had to unholster my weapon due to threats of violence WITH the intent by use of a deadly weapon, the store manager obtained warrants on the subject and now he’s a wanted subject. I could’ve legally fired my weapon or arrested him as a private person and licensed security guard for threatening the use of violence, attempted agg assault with DW showing intent, criminal aggravated trespass, disorderly conduct and probably more offenses. Instead, I took his license plate down. The subject is well known at the location and to law enforcement just based off a picture and tag number. Now, he has additional warrants on top of his warrants already. That’s another thing security guards don’t understand or know of, obtaining warrants on people. At least in Tennessee you can and you go before a judge or commissioner and swear under oath and gather and persuade the evidence and facts. Hey, even law enforcement officers have to do it the same way to obtain warrants.

1 Timothy 6:10 KJV Bible For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Philippians 4:11 KJV Bible Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

The Police Departments have the backing of the police unions in case some one makes a mistake. They also have a retirement but, they have more stress because of politics and they are held accountable to responsibilities such as making arrest and interaction with the community. Some Security officers do have job benefits and retirement and a stable employment but very rarely. Most security officers have no backing by their companies and if something goes wrong run the risk of going to jail without having the support of anyone. The way society is now personally I don’t think that any type of authority is respected today. Individuals that work in Security n Law Enforcement are taking a great personal risk.

Very good points. I agree that we take a risk doing this job. I work in a hospital where those risks are more frequent. The safety of vulnerable patients is my responsibility. You mentioned backing by the companies. Hypothetically, If the companies provided advanced training and stood behind their officers, does that change anything?

Well you get benefits and a retirement plan with LE. If not willing to do a job, don’t sign up. As long as I can survive and pay my bills I’m fine with it. Personally I don’t like boring sites but even busy sites can be boring. Boring equals you did your job and it was a good day compared to having to do reports. Now that’s not what I said. Relisten to the video fully on that

Nope... Not gonna risk my life and limb in current era. I'm not paid to do the job of the police. Don't be a hero. Graveyards are full of "heroes". Easy job, easy money. Collect paycheck. Go home in one piece. I am unapologetically observe and report only.
