Thank you for making this video. I am 75, I was married for 54 years, and my wife passed away 15 months ago. I have cancer that has spread to my bones and starting chemo this coming Monday. I have never been alone and having some issues with it. I have stayed very busy doing upgrades to my house. However, I am running out of things to keep me occupied. I would like to start woodworking, and I have all the tools to make easy projects. I believe your comments have helped put me in the right direction. I am so proud of you. Oh Amanda. What a breath of fresh air you are. I’m 58 & blessed to have 2 children (21 & 23). I am blissfully divorced & single. The world finds it hard not to pity what we celebrate … the ability to be enough for ourselves. It is truly a gift. Never feel you need to explain or apologise for something so precious.
Being in a bad marriage is far worse then being single. And daily many women are afraid to leave domestic violence relationships. So let’s stop bending to worldly pressures and sit quietly and count our blessings.😊
PS. When I’m upset, sad, or other emotions. I think about a pic on my refrigerator that has an extremely poor child , and her family on the other side of the world living in a home with a dirt floor . I not only pray for that child. I am aware of how easy it is to complain about life. Instead I count my daily blessings. I have been widowed, divorced, had cancer 20 years ago. Still I have had a great life. We all live better than most of the world. That’s why everyone wants to come to the USA. A fact, and let’s keep politics out of it.
I just found out a month ago about a mass growing in my kidney. The Dr believes it's most likely cancer. I may be doing immunotherapy and that's how I came across your channel, by searching for immunotherapy experiences. I started watching many of your videos and honestly I really love your videos. Your views, narrations, optimistic outlooks. It's refreshing to see authentic videos like yours. I subscribed and will be sticking around. BTW, I am married and have 3 children but I can understand and respect your perspective on being alone. Your family seems very supportive and that's great. Being a mother I did go through a time of feeling like I lost some of my self identity. My kids are 9 years old and older now so I feel like I'm at place to rediscover myself. Hopefully I make through this cancer and will be able to do that.
This is everything! I chose to be alone, well I have a sound dog. So many people in my life tell me I’ve got so many good years left & I shouldn’t be alone. I grew exhausted by trying to please a partner & putting myself second. I now put myself first & honestly am more at peace. I even took my first road/hiking trip with just my dog & wow, it was amazing. We are capable of making ourselves happy & that is what I do. I’ve cut out noise & drama & i truly love my life. Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate it.

Wow Amanda you have such wise words and you speak with such softness in your voice. It took me two failed marriages to finally be happy being single at the age of 66. I don’t live in fear anymore. I love when your pets join you in a video. I love animals. I don’t currently have any pets but I am close to my granddog. We have been best friends for 15 years. When my daughter and her family go on vacations, I stay with my granddog and we have lots of snuggles. ❤️🤗
Thank you for your insights! My husband left in February of last year. Then I ended up in the ICU unresponsive with Sepsis. Through those surgeries they found ovarian cancer cells. I spent the rest of last year alone but for my kids helping me. (I’m 55). I’m done with chemo and my hair is growing back but I identify with your thoughts so much. Particularly this video as I get used to life alone. Thank you for your thoughts. I too suffer those darned hot flashes, in fact I’m having one right now as I think about them… Have a great weekend! ❤
This is a wonderful video. I am happily married, but I do not want to have children, and I need alone time away from my spouse (or any other person). Many people get super tense when I tell them about this. They feel miserable when they are alone, and thus, they stress out seeing somebody actively choosing to be on their own. Some people go online to see videos with cute babies or pets; I'm here for videos like this - I love to see self-sufficient, beautiful women with a rich inner world.
I thought that I would never meet someone and get married, but I did, via dating direct and I've been married for 18 years now. That being said, I wouldn't seek out another partner if something happened to my wife. I do enjoy my own company, and I also enjoy being in the company of others. My brother is single and happy in his 50s, and I'm happy that he is happy like that, but there are people in my family who think it's weird .... I don't, I just really get it.

Hi Amanda, really enjoyed your video. I'm 56 & can't have children. I got divorced 10 years ago and my ex hubby became a father at the age of 50! This totally broke my heart & hit me like bolt of lightening! How could another woman succeed by giving him the most natural gift where I had failed! I did a lot of soul searching and actually found my happy place by finding me, doing the things I wanted to do without having to consider another. I absolutely loved having my little routines and never felt lonely even though others felt sorry for me. What I'm trying to say is maybe the person who wrote you the 2nd comment felt for you because her "normal' is sharing her NYE with another, therefore maybe will never appreciate how great being with oneself can be. Anyway I always used to say "I'm not alone I have my fur-son with me. 😊 Sending love from the 🇬🇧 xx
Amanda, I'm just going to say what an inspiration you are. I am 75 and boy I wish I would've known you in my younger years. There is so much I would of done differently and known this would be a good choice. Hope I am clear. I'm not good on commenting. I still shy away from it. I want you to know you are such a beautiful and genuine person. I can sit with a cup of tea and listen to you for hours. There is a calm about you and I feel it. My hubby and i, and both our kids are introverts. We didnt go out for New Years although we could have. My daughter in her early 20s chose to stay home and invite her boyfriend over. We had a lovely seafood dinner and a movie, which was much nicer to us then being at a place with a zillion others. I most of the time, much rather be on my own, i enjoy my own company, can occupy myself with numerous things including DIY projects. On the occasion i want to go out and meet a friend, i will, but my enjoyment and quality of my life is not dependant on others. Great youve figured this out for yourself too, but sad we have to explain to others why we dont feel the need to be social all the time.
Hello Amanda. I am 55yrs old and have now, after a failed marriage and children, finally found my true companion. It took years to realise that I enjoy my own company. and love being independent. My dog is my best friend and I never feel lonely. I spend some weekends with my partner and we enjoy the same things and both value our friendship and our individuality. I totally agree and understand your feelings of the future and love etc. after all you are going through it’s lovely to hear your words of wisdom and hopes for the future. Some people do not understand how we enjoy our own company nor our choices of how we spend our time. Happy New Year love xx
new sub here... i really like your videos. they're so heartfelt -- really well filmed with a very calming, creative eye for detail. it seems we all eventually see the familiar siren songs from childhood as red flags. and once we truly accept it, we're around the 30-40-ish age range. but there's a solid serenity to be had in being alone, i feel, especially when you have a loving community. thanks for sharing!
I loved this so much I watched it twice 😂! You are totally 💯 correct! And at nearly 50 I’m now learning that my relationship with myself is so much more important. I work in a male dominated environment and so many of my colleagues constantly go on to me about getting back on the dating site and bagging myself a man! They think I’m crazy when I say I’m done! Many of those guys I speak to spend all day moaning about their relationship but actually admit they could never be single. I also spent a wonderful New Year’s Eve on my own reading. The pitiful looks I got at work when I told them this. None of those people went out but they had their partner sitting on the couch with them. Well done on such a great video xx
Your video definitely resonated with me as at 34 I took the decision, like you , to have a break after failed relationships, I do have children, but they are grown up now and I raised them as a single mum. I am now nearly 64 and have never ended the break ha ha , but like you love my own company and although I am not saying I would not like a relationship, I wouldn’t go out looking for one and would be very wary of letting someone in to my settled life. After looking after my granddaughter, I do like to come home to my own space and be on my own. I think it is hard for some people to understand this and I know my sisters get very upset that I am on my own and I know they feel sorry for me, I don’t know why, as they always say you seem to be much happier on your own . ……..All of this said a companion would be good :)
My best friend is divorced for years and she would love to meet someone but what's out there she's not interested. She would rather be alone but she's not lonely. I think it's harder being alone if u lose a spouse.
Would you consider visiting a group for companionship. E g walking, hiking, painting or woodwork. Just to expand your horizons. I spend most of my days alone as I’m in recovery atm but I enjoy my days. I have been going to a hospice group monthly and it helps to be with other people. I’m too introverted. You’re looking well, getting back to ‘normal’ 😃
Well said you ❤ The thing is, when we are truly happy with ourselves, that's what draws the nicest people around us. Clarity and change of focus happens after what you experienced. It's what we do with that soulful search that matters.🪷 Stay safe with those fronts hitting.
