The saltwater catfish has spines that can inflict injury and cause infection, you were smart removing it with pliers to avoid handling the top fins where the spine is located.
Like the lighter tackle surf fishing. A good way to tell the difference between waves and a bite is that a bite will be erratic and jerky on the tip. Waves slowly pull the tip down. It sometimes get tricky but as a general rule it a good way to tell the difference.
With beach fishing, you want cast either in front of or behind the sandbar, which are 2 troughs where the fish like to hide, so try to cast in one of those instead of blindly casting, but it was super windy so it might be tough. Cool video!
Nice vid! I've been surf fishing lately down here in Brazil, been tough, no snooks this season; when I surf fish I usually hold the rod with a finger in the line, cuz you can feel better the hit than just looking and you can hook faster!
Use a rubber mallet to pound your rod holders in . Ive been icefishing for yellow perch, crappie and bluegills lately. Doing pretty good.

Su pesca es increíble siempre con peces grandes, su equipo de pesca es fantástico ¡Felicitaciones, es un pescador profesional muy exitoso! ¡Dios te bendiga siempre!👍🎣🐠
can you please bring back your budget challanges and your random store challanges where you look for stuff to make a fishing rod or you find stuff to make a lure :)
Should buy shrimp, put in zip-loc bag and cover it with salt. Put in freezer & when your ready fish bring it out. The shrimp will be much firmer and easier to catch with.
Not sure if you’re still around in Florida but crescent beach is probably my favorite beach to surf fish from clear water and it’s never really busy and certain months you can drive on it
Watching the vid while you use fishbites and the area right in front of you is filled with little V's and bubbles. You had the best surf fishing bait for pomps right at your feet the entire time! Did down around those with a sand rake or even a bucket and scoop up a bunch of em to toss out there next time! Just look for the V shapes in the sand after a wave retreats! Pompano candy, whiting love em too, and I've even caught red and black drum on them off the beach! Sailfin cats, which are obvious with their long fins, are tasty to eat! Saltwater cat spines hurt a lot more than freshwater.
Love me some surf fishing! What youre using should work for pomp. Get sputniks if u can. Florida in winter is a gale. Then the salt water catfish arent to be messed with. The sails are highly poisonous, but taste real good.
For pompano and whiting use peeled shrimp and hold your rod. For big reds use fresh mullet. Hardhead catfish have wicked spines but you can handle them like a channel cat or bullhead. They're ok to eat but not great. Fish the troughs that run parallel to the beach.
On days like these you wanna use a surf weight, or spider weight as some call them. that rod can handle a 2-3oz one and it would stick and hold just fine in these conditions
the saltwater catfish u caught is called a hardhead catfish their dorsal fins have spines covered in toxic mucus would definitely be careful holding them they hurt like crazy if u get stung also they taste nasty but gafftopsail catfish another saltwater catfish aren't bad to eat.
Yes i have fished in those conditions like that because I live in NC and fish the outter banks in the surf and the the waving of the rod tip is the waves and hard pulls are fish
I was raised fishing mainly saltwater on both the Atlantic and the Gulf coast of FL there are 2 saltwater catfish in FL waters the hard head which you caught and the gaftopsail catfish called that due its long dorsal fin both are edible the gaftop tastes better to me.
That catfish is a hard headcat fish and you have to be very careful because their spine is venomous, you can catch them in like any bracketish water canal, at least in south Florida
hey mate good vid but here in new zealand we use something called a sand grabber sinker or break away sinker to hold our lined in one spot so we dont have them being pulled all down the beach all it is are some wire spikes put in the sinker that dig in
Last time I did what you're doing was at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. We caught a couple of them two to three foot little gray surf sharks and took them home and ate them those things are amazing with some lemon and salt and pepper.
Dang man. Such a bummer about the topper. If I were you, I'd reach out to Leer and let them know what's happened (especially with the dealer that put the cap on). All of the issues with you've had with the topper are things that should not come from something brand new. I'm no attorney, but I think reaching out and expressing your concerns is worth a shot.
So in England we use a fishing weight called a grip lead when sea fishing in strong tides and when it's rough sea's and the grip lead grips in to the sand to keep the bait in one place. Watching this video your rod tip was bouncing about thats due to your led and bait being washed around in the tide not sure if the us have them but the grip leads are awesome man. Also what the heck how come you excepted that cab thats so bad it cos you 3g and it is in that state all damaged scratched window frame all worpt and stuff thats more like a second hand 1 man you need to take that back and tell them to get you a new one.
Yes, those catfish have skin that is poisonous along with the same spines that freshwater cats have. The saltwater cats also have poison in their spines and it really really hurts when you get stabbed by them.
Fyi if you suck on the end of the tube after it’s in the sand the suction will bring it into the sand with a light push. It looks awkward but it’s the fastest and easiest way to get it into the sand
That was a white catfish and yes they do once I made a mistake when I caught one and it flipped back and got me with its spine and it I had to go to the ER it was terrible pain
Hardheaded catfish! They will jack u up!! When the weather is like that in texas we go bass fishing, stay off the beach. It’s too hard to control your bait
As a tinter for the last 13 years I can tell you that the guy was inexperienced or he was going too fast, you shouldn't have light gaps and he should've cleaned all that glass up
I'm telling you man. With the rod holders get the bottom just barely into the sand an you can put your mouth inside the top and suck the air out and the holder goes right into the sand
Great video bud. You gotta read the surf and where to cast. Trust me, I started off by thinking it's one big ocean, just cast your line anywhere and there will be fish... Took me way to long to realize that was totally wrong. Tight lines!
