I've Never Played Baldur's Gate 3. Can I Guess What Class These Characters Are?

Using just the headshots is a real handicap. Full body with their default costume would be more fair.

I am not here for the Gale slander 😂 though I can see his reasoning from the headshot 100%, if you show him a 5 second clip of Gale actually moving and talking fighter would go straight out the window 😂

I would have given 0.7 points on Minthara as a cleric, since that was the original plan for her.

I feel like he 100% needed full-body shots. Asterion as a bard still probably would have been the call. But Gale in a purple robe? 100% magic user. Karlach is a tall, beefy lady. Would have maybe leaned toward something physical. Halsin maybe would have gotten barbarian too, since he's a big boy. As far as Jaheria goes, I see a character design with half of the hair braided and lots of brown and green on the clothing, I'm instantly thinking druid. The clothing is sooooooo much a part of the character design.

Would have been good to use pictures of them in their camp clothes. That way a full body shot could have been given. I also agree with the comment about guessing cleric for Minthara should have given a partial point. She was a cleric for a long time in early access.

If he'd had fullbody images it would have been easier, but I think a few characters might still have tripped him up. I wish you'd shown him the Dark Urge too :D

Jaheira used to be fighter/druid in BG1 and 2 (AD&D ruleset multiclass), but in BG3 she starts out as a pure druid. Minsc was in BG2, in fact one of the first companions you could pick up in the prologue, and that portrait on his second slide is from BG2.

Someone who doesn't like being in the city but will begrugingly do so is quite on point for Jaheira, she comments every now and then about disliking the cities in the first two Baldurs Gate games.

My favourite Minsc factoid is that BG1, which was based off of Second Edition, had minimum anility score requirements for classes. Despite being a ranger, Minsc's Wisdom is not high enough to qualify -- it's 9. There is, on the optional critical hit tables, a head injury result which permanently halves all your mental stats. (Int, Wis, Cha). Soon after introducing himself, he brings up that he had a severe head injury in the past.

If he guessed barbarian for minsc and/or fighter for Jaheira then I would personally give it to him since I believe that they are both canonically multiclassed. It is just that BG3 has you build up all the characters from level one regardless of what level/stage of the game you recruit them at.

I was like “Astarion’s gotta be pretty obviously a rogue right” then I remembered the very first time I saw him without playing the game I assumed he was a bard just based on his outfit and personality lmao this might be fun

Jaheira feels like a trap, because she canonically a fighter/druid in BG1 and BG2 so her character as a druid is a little weird.

Minsc is in both BG1 and BG2. In BG1 he is able to be recruited in Act 2 of the game. In BG2 Minsc is one of the characters that is in the prison with the player character at the very beginning of the game.

A diadem is a ribbon worn across the forehead and fastened in back, usually with ribbons trailing from the knot in back and sometimes adorned by a jewel or brooch in the center of the forehead. It was the equivalent of a crown in classical Greece and Greek-influenced cultures.

as someone who made Astarion a 4/8 rogue/bard I 100% agree that he gives off bard energy, he has to play the violin as well

Minsc is 100% in BG2, currently replaying it with him in my party.

Misc & Boo is in all 3 Baldurs Gate games. He's a Ranger in BG 1, a Ranger/Berserker in BG2 and The Stonelord in BG3. How'd you get that wrong dude!

20:35 wrong. Minsc is in Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 as well as 3. He was in fact a member of the starting party in 2 alongside Jaheira and is in fact optional in 1. So you might've gotten them mixed up because there's no way you'd miss him in 2

Astarion probably should have been a bard personality-wise. Barbarian based on his propensity for violence, blood, intimidation. Wife-stealer based on rizz and looks. Babygirl and rogue by lore. Best friend based on gossip and loyalty. He's the most flamboyant but also the most masculine companion besides Halsin, as well as the funniest person in the peanut gallery. I pity the rare man that hates him because they're missing out.

Minsc is in BG2, he is perhaps the most beloved companion.

I thought Jaheria was a full elf too, but was upset when i learned she’s a half-elf, cause I was going to write a fanfiction of what the full elves do when the others are asleep, and was greatly upset when I found out she would be asleep.

Nice to see a fellow Minthara simp.😌 Astarion owns my heart and mind, but Minty is a very close second favorite. She's intimidating and yet so freakin' adorable when she's in her cuddly and vulnerable pillow talk mood.🥰 As you might have guessed from my two favorites, I have a thing for people with that kind of duality (Astarion is mean but all is forgiven the moment he flashes his usual puppy dog eyes☺).

20:30 That artwork of Minsc is from Baldur's Gate 2 and he was definitely in Baldur's Gate 2... in fact, Minsc and Jaheira are the very first NPCs the player meets in BG2, right in the "prologue" when your amnesiac Bhaalspawn character wakes up chained up in a gaol and has to escape. They both are in BG1, BG2 and BG3.

Funnily enough I play Gale as a heavy armor multi class because he looks awesome in armor

I haven't played Baldur's Gate I, II or III, so here are my picks; Astarion Bard; Gale Fighter/Pirate; Halsin Ranger; Jaheira Sorceress; Karlach Warlock;; Laez'el barbarian; Minsc Monk; Minthara Cleric; Shadowheart Cleric; Wyll Bard. I was close to their expert, often following the same logic and having the same second choices.

As soon as I get Withers, I usually respec Astarion as a Bard (College of Swords) and I change Shadowheart's domain to Life rather than Trickery. I've also experimented with Gale as a sorcerer but not all the time.

I think Teen Titan's Raven would be a shadow monk personally but i can definitely see the sorcerer vibe!

If I'm not mistaken diadem is a specific type of circlet

with full body shots it wouild have been much easier... the full body character design is very much on point with all of them

So here’s the thing, respeccing a character immediately sets their ability scores to the default for their class. For some reason recruiting the companions in the later acts also respecs them when they join, that’s why after recruiting Minsc’s strength isn’t very high either and Jaheira’s dex is lower than it should be to actually work with her scimitar. That’s actually why Halsin has low strength. If you inspect him before recruiting him you will see that he has 16 strength I believe. Once you add him to your party it just sets him to low strength since Druids don’t need strength.

To be fair, I have Halsin use owl bear rage often enough that he might as well be a barbarian

In his defense with Gale, he does have the City Watch ability and a few weapon profs with it. So he did used to be a captain or a bit of a brawler there, from a certain point of view

Until I played BG3 and got Astarion to join my party, I was SURE he was a bard. Or at least a high charisma/swashbuckler rogue. 10. This guy has 10 charisma. That's lower than my Barbarian.

To be fair for Minthara, in ealry access before Paladin was added, she used to be a Cleric.

Hey to be fair, Halsin is an outlander and he's wild, so that does fit the barbarian vibe. Also, it took me way too long to find Gale in the game (actually if I hadn't looked it up he'd have died in that portal), and both his personality and his voice were nothing like I imagined from looking at his picture. He sounds sweet and nerdy, but looks like he'd have a lower voice, and be a typical leading fighting man. I'm glad he isn't. Also, my feelings about Lae'zel changed throughout the game, and I legit cried when we said goodbye 😭

The head portrait of Astarion didn't even show his elven ears, but calling him a "tiefling" when he doesnt even have horns is a weird read. Also, considering what weird hair/skin/eye colours elves can have in Forgotten Realms and how Astarion is so pale and has silvery-grey-white hair, the red eyes are supposed to make people think he's an albino. What is far more telling in-game is how you can see the two scars on his neck when you first meet him if you pay a little bit of attention (esp if you get the scene where he tackles you to the ground) and the tiny fangs when he talks...

There really aren't multiple ways to pronounce "Astarion". Just one. The way the way the voice actor himself pronounces it and also every other character in the game: _[Ah-STAH-ri-on]._ For crying out loud, when you first meet Astarion in-game he introduces himself to you _by name!_ The only person who started this "A-stair-ion" American pronunciation was the gamemaster guy who ran the promo D&D5E BG3 "sidequest" for the BG3 voice actors where they played as the BG3 characters.

You Take Jaheira on a date to Friendly Arms Inn. Jaheira and her husband Khalid first appear there in BG1. Oh that is fun using her picture old BG.

14:39 In BG 1 and 2 Jaheira is actually not a pure druid - she's a Fighter/Druid. But don't forget that those games where based on AD&D 2e which had very different rules and also a different class system. 20:33 Nope, this is Minsc's BG 2 picture. Minsc is in all three games, and he is in fact one of the beginner companions in BG2. In BG1 he had a habit of dying in a lot of people's games because of a special mechanic in that game in terms of some companions: They came in pairs and if you left one behind then both leave the party which was a bit problematic in the case of Minsc. In BG 1 there are over 20 possible companions throughout the game and a lot of them are martial class characters - and while Minsc was a good melee combatant there where others that where just better (the palading Ahantis, the ranger Kivan, the Fighter/thief Coran, the fighter Shar'teel...arguebly even the fighter Kagain who didn't deal as much damage but as a dwarf had such a high constitution score that he actually slowly regerated HP while exploring, and the fighter/cleric Yeslick who was an ok fighter but at the same time a cleric as well. Minsc's partner character however, Dynaheir, is hands down the best magic user in BG1 which means that unless people played a magic user as the main character literally everyone and their dog wanted Dynaheir in their party. Jaheira also had a partner character btw - her husband Khaleed, a fighter. However - Khaleed was the weakest fighter in the game.
