To coincide with Iggy Pop’s outstanding “Post Pop Depression” being awarded Rough Trade's Album of the Year, we were kindly invited to Iggy Pop’s home in Miami to film a Q&A, and Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore was coincidentally in town, a chance meeting of two legends became a very special reality. The album is available from Rough Trade: roughtrade.com/music/post-pop...

I met Iggy pop in person in 2007, after the show in Zagreb Croatia, he was the nicest guy to us, he hugged us all , like we were his friends. He even asked about my band, when he saw it on my shirt, He ¸, Ron and Scott Ashetoon from Stooges signed our records, and talked with us for 30 min, one of the best days in my life.

David Bowie also loved Sonic Youth, especially their music during the 80's which he called "the most exciting music from around that time with Pixies. Both of these guys are beloved figures by Bowie and they both probably love Bowie. The art world is sometimes just nice and sweet like that.

The Velvets where so influential, and their real musical mastermind John Cale not only playing viola on The Stooges debut, but also producing it (also plays the repetetive sleighbells and piano on I Wanna Be Your Dog). Such an unsung hero, considering he also produced Patti Smith's debut Horses and Jonathan Richman's Modern Lovers, both also milestones in the making of alternative and punk music. And last but not least arranging and producing (the latter two) Nico's Marble Index, Desertshore and The End lp's. Gothic a decade before that term became a household name.

True, John Cale is such a great producer, everything he produced tends to be the best album by that particular singer or group. Squeeze comes to mind here, Horse's is arguably Pati Smith group's best album.
@mcnowski
@mcnowski 6 лет назад
So Jack Kerouac writes "On the Road", which can arguably be credited for starting the Beatnik movement, which turned into the 60's "hippie" rebellion, Jim Morrison read's this book over and over, Iggy Pop extremely inspired by Jim Morrison's present's on stage start's the Stooges, The Stooges help inspire the the underground punk, new wave scene, notably musicians like Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, ect, then out of this is born Nirvana. Kurt Cobain after achieving success gets to become the hero of "On the Road" (Sal Paradise) for a day and meets Burroughs and try's his Orgone box just like in the book, this my friends is the completion of the cycle, the Hero's journey, and quite possibly the end of an era.
@paulsavage5057
@paulsavage5057 5 лет назад
I suppose if you look at it that way... These people only cared for themselves and their creations in the 1960s and they have left us with no humanity whatsoever. Kerouac saw the greed involved in it but the Iggy is just a false name and an auteur - they stole everything from Kerouac and then some.

@@startervisions Cheers from Kentucky. I figure I was about fifteen or sixteen years in as a rocker when I had a couple jobs and a wallet to match at the record store. Raw Power was a myth and rite passed on to me from my elders at the time. There was something spooky about it. My friends of all colour that used to wear glam boots for height, found the Ramones and punk rocked with Sheena in the mid/late 70’s. The Stooges were treated like their secret sleaze and that just made them more fascinating to seek out. Listening to “No Fun” on a self-recorded cassette via walkman as a lonesome 15 year old meant everything to me. “Maybe stay out, maybe stay home, maybe call mom on the, telephone” ❤️⚡️
