Rickey Henderson, the all time greatest lead-off man in the history of the sport, got 94.8% of the vote, which is scientific evidence that baseball writers eat paint chips.
@John Doe I mean jeter was black and was unanimous and Ruth didn’t get 100% of the vote in 32 so I don’t think it was a race thing just they all drink room temperature water thing like psychopaths thing
I never will forget the day he broke the stolen base record. He makes some speech about how he is the greatest of all time. Then Nolan Ryan threw his 7th NoNo. That did not last long, Ricky.
I'm torn between the two camps. On one hand I believe in the importance of advanced SABRmetrics to accurately evaluate a player. But on the other hand . . . I'm Italian.
counter point to "every single other player other than Derek Jeter is underrated": Mariano Rivera got 100% of the vote, therefore he must be the MOST fairly rated player in MLB history
@@georgemartin5980 That's gotta be some like regional influence on your sample or something. I had never even heard of Rivera until like last year, but you bet your ass I knew who Derek Jeter was
“If some of you are hyper aware of Derek Jeter’s defensive metrics, the idea of physical exercise is probably terrifying to you” I haven’t been this lit up in years
I thought this started being a shitpost but it veered into being what I can only describe as the thesis of Baseball Bits and then veered right back to shitpost lane.
@@dannyc.2039 it was probably at the end where he tried to defend Derek Jeters defensive metrics by saying he is the Owner of the Marlins and hire the first Female GM. As far as I’m concerned Derek Jeter is doing a worse job as Owner of the Marlins than Geoffrey Loria, and that is saying something.
@@soarinskies1105, Loria-era Marlins: achieve success Geoffrey Loria: immediately dismantles the team 2020 Marlins: achieve success Sherman/Jeter: doesn't immediately dismantle the team yea I dunno about that one chief, and that's not even mentioning how the 2020 Marlins couldn't have happened in the first place without the good managing they received
Not enough people are saying what a great job you've done for the RU-vid community by practicing your presentations in front of prestigious universities of learning so you can perfect the content I watch when I sit on the toilet. What a legend.
The fact that Babe Ruth did not get 100% of the votes is evidence that there are most likely voters who have never actually watched baseball but just vote for the coolest names.
“Jeter is more famous than isiah kiner falefa” Debatable. I saw the the rangers exit the team plane once and there were tons of people who were screaming his name. He had quite a fan base over there.
Now that’s a lie, everyone knows women don’t exist. There are only men, men and of course, the ghost of Mike Piazzas mustache which gives birth to more men every year.
bailey, clearly you didn’t go to a southern connecticut high school in 2014, or else you’d know that “RE2PECT” is pronounced “ree-two-pect” (and you would also say it constantly for years afterward)
So if jeter played a decent right field would that really have taken away from the hate of a Yankee who won multiple titles? No they’d hate him even more and complain that he didn’t play shortstop.
I have always been baffled by the fact that we choose to further distinguish HOFers amongst each other - I mean, it's the Hall of Fame, it's the absolute pinnacle of sports achievement.
I disagree. Just as someone is or isn’t a hall of famer, some people in the HOF deserve to be inner circle members. Ted Williams, Ruth, etc are freaks among freaks, if that makes sense. Making it to the MLB doesn’t mean that you should be treated the same as Juan Soto or Kershaw, who are more distinguished than the average player in the MLB. In both cases, however, ANYONE who makes it to the MLB or HOF deserves massive respect, just some more than others.
@@joelambert7128 Well you used the operative word; almost. The NFL & CFB, are extra popular because of gambling, not the love of the game. I watch sports, baseball in particular, for the love of the game. Yes I have favorites, but I do love playing devil's advocate and having a friendly debate. Plus our favorite players aren't necessarily the "best". Cheers
I'd like to see a Cal Ripken and Derek Jeter comparison. Stat and award wise obviously. Cal won't beat Jeter in a popularity contest whatsoever. It just would be nice to see who's the better player.
Metrics suggest it's Ripken. Jeter was probably the better overall hitter but Ripken was the better overall shortstop. Both are rightfully in the Hall of Fame so it really doesn't matter to me personally.
That was an amazing ending to the video. I was fixing an appliance, just listening to the video while working away. The last point made me laugh out loud. Great video.😅👍
the Larry Walker / ID joke reminded me of the time Dustin Pedroia actually DID get IDed trying to get into the players entrance at Coors field during the 07 ws
Don’t forget that jeter career was literally a movie, 3000th hit was a homer, his last hit at Yankee stadium was a walk off. The dude literally lived every kids dream every day
No way, it was a weak oppo blooper against an expensive double-a team. The hit being overrated definitely fits the theme though. Actually, i take it back; that walk-off really was the perfect way to cap off his career.
As an old guy I always like Jeter when I watched him live. Hated the Yankees, but Jeter was the one guy you gave respect to. It wasn't because he was the best, but because you always felt like he was giving 100%. This was partly just a cultivated image, but there was some kernel of truth to it. Everybody hated A-Rod despite his skills. I watch baseball from 1987 to now so I saw Jeter's entire run. He was one of the mythical figures of that time. Sometimes sports is just about larger that life stories.
@@donfromregularshow4469 he was only a mediocre defender late in his career. Not easy to play shortstop for 20 years. Plus the guy made every big time play throughout his entire career. Absolute winner
maybe my favorite video of you, mr foolish. just the way you made your argument especially from the middle to the end is much the way i allign my beliefs. love ya
@@soldemers7809 Yeah, and the Marlins haven't yet proven they're doing it well. They won pandemic baseball, sure, but then they sold lots of their talent again the next year. So perhaps it's a re-re-build?
@@Qball42 the fact that they did not take 2020 as an accurate measure of how good their team was is a sign that this rebuild is in fact being done properly. They should be a threat to the NL East by 2025.
I could not put it into words better bailey fantastic job but I believe you should put a cool theme as the background of your next power point presentation
I believe it's annoying what has happened with Jeter because it's a subconscious recognition of how the media hyping something that benefits them SUCKS.
@@Phoneybeetlemaniacxs He hit 696 Homer with them and I bet he could hit 500 without them. Maybe he'd walk less due to team not fearing his power as much and his slugging would prob go down but he'd still be a first ballet hall of famer and better than jeter
@@denistuohy2535 I think Thurman is probably not in because he just didn’t play enough, but a 7 time all star, 3 time gold glove winner and an MVP in 11 years to go with 2 World Series rings should be in
@@croke835 yeah my rationale is, he died in plane crash while he was in the prime of his career, he was clearly on track to be in and there was a legitimate argument as to who was the best out of Fisk, Bench, and Munson while they were all playing.
Camp 3: You are a Red Sox fan You say Derek Jeter is bad, you know Derek Jeter is good. Big Papi is the greatest most famous baseball player in the world ask anybody* *in Boston
Somewhere this almost became a Barry Larkin video. I am ashamed I underrated him so much! (Great video by the way, first time seeing this guy and almost exited the video but was funny/ridiculous at times but brought it all home with a real compelling argument that I thought was almost impossible at the beginning.)
great video. I feel like this could be applied to alot of things in life. rather then trashing someone maybe the better thing to do is left other up who deserves it.
