I've pinned this, a lot click off before the end!..... they'll miss that epic ending! Cheers Del, I can always rely on you to give it a full watch and add some feedback 😎
@@TomleyRC I actually met a bloke at a barbecue who´d seen my first sword-making video. It turned out that he´d just skipped through it. I was glad of the chance to ask him why people do this - he said: "It was getting a bit boring". I was gutted! We go out in all weathers to create content, and people sit on their sofas and decide they can´t be arsed to watch it properly! I think those of us who make vids are more likely to watch them to the end because we appreciate the time and trouble that go into making them.
Yes agree. I understand if people don’t want to watch the work bench stuff and skip straight to the running or vice versa, but to then ask a question in the comments that was answered a couple of times in the video can be rather annoying! I don’t get much time to watch videos, but I generally will watch from start to finish.
@@TomleyRC I always wonder how you manage to juggle work, family and your channel as it is, without watching other peoples´ work! I´ll skip through old eps of Top Gear, but not someone´s carefully-made amateur content - they found the time to make it so I feel I should do them the courtesy of watching it properly. Usually!
Same here and every time I check eBay for a used one they want Dam near same price for it if it was brand new or a hundred bucks more one I did like I got out bid I don’t want one that bad to pay 600 bucks for a used dirty truck with scratches
I bought the Summit when it debuted in Dec 2009. Loved it! Stock it would climb 45 deg or more. Jump just fine a skate parks. And fast enough to zip around. I regret selling it in 2016. Now I have a 16th revo vxl converted to summit suspension and wheels. Just Got my 9 y.o. a 16th summit for Christmas!
I've had one of these for many years, I love it! I would definitely recommend upgrading the tires. I run the Big Joe's on mine. And I also upgraded the motor and esc to a Hobbywing Exrun 2200kv sensored system. Plenty of speed and power but still fully capable of crawling at slow speeds. 6s is possible with that motor/esc combo but it's too much power for the differentials. 4s is perfect on that system. Congratulations on your purchase. Can't go wrong with that truck!
Purchased a summit from my LHS a decent while ago, and ever since that day, it's been great. the 20mph top speed is decent enough to be enjoyable at a small skatepark, but flipping it into low gear, locking the diffs, and going over things you wouldn't expect is the best part of this truck.
The summit have been high up on my wish list for quite some time, a bit expensive for my taste though(used ones usually sell for a lot here as well). it sure is an incredible truck! I ended up buying an 1st gen E-Revo instead. Looking forward to the next video 👍🏼
I have had a summit since 2009, it's an incredible truck. I drive in 6s with a 2200 kV hobbywing motor and 150a ESC. 11 tooth motor pinion. Slipper Robinson 65 teeth. The entire transmission is reinforced. All existing RPM parts are installed. Thus equipped the summit is indestructible. Congratulations on your purchase 👍
I had one six years ago, sold it for something else, since that day I regret it, and this Christmas I get one from my wife, I say this to you all, this 1/8 rc car will never be sold again that's how much I love the summit and the joy it brings me the fun with it, man it's my precious!!!!
Ah yes, the batteries are used in paralell, the motor doesn't run on 4S, but it does get double your MAH rating for double duration times! And you're right about the speed, it's enough for really rough terrain! My used one does not give 18mph, prolly service or change the motor soon.
Yes it really is a "only RC offroader you'll ever need" type thing! But now that I've spent the same or more on three different RCs, I'm still happy. And one day, just one day, I may get a Summit. It's the only Traxxas truck that I don't think is over priced.
Very nice when I started in RC I never looked at Traxxas Schumacher racing was always my go to RC because all they nitro cars were fast especially the menace 21 70mph but now I'm a Traxxas fan boy and admittedly they do make fast stuff maybe in your Traxxas summit you can put a certain KV motor it give it about 30 mile an hour
I definitely agree with you. I bought one last October, honestly there were lots of times in the past I was about to pull the trigger and I got my purple too. I was lucky to found at the same time the orange body/wheels combo at the same time plus the LED bar at a truly great price online. The BEST all around do it all RC truck on the market. I do a lot of trail hiking, and this truck is the best companion and most fun to run truck on my fleet. Obviously I placed 2 better servos than the stock ones plus a set of Badlands. Truly decent runtime since I got a 4 pack of 7600mAh lipos, usually a 2 pack gives me almost 2 hours of trail runtime. It does almost everything in stock mode. Got mine from Graves Hobbies Florida in 4 days and I live in Puerto Rico. I put a couple videos on my channel, you can check them out. Enjoy!
I too have waited a long time to get the Summit, Got mine last month and put in a 4274 motor and ESC from Hobbywing to run on 6S. This thing has been so impressive so far handling the power and speed. Love the love speed crawling it will do but then has 50 mph speed in high gear when wanting so real wheel speed.
My brother got me one of the 1/10 scale for Christmas a few years ago. It is an awesome machine! Later I found a 1/16 scale for sale and bought it. It’s a lot of fun too, especially with a 1/10 scale motor and esc on 3s!!
Awesome truck. I had wanted one for years and got one second hand in the summer. I don't like traxxas but I have to say it's probably the most complete RC ever made.
I'm not a traxxas fan due to how they treated me with a warranty problem with my udr several years ago but I will say the summit is a nice rig. My friend has a full blown custom one that's been converted to brushless and runs on 8s and I will admit it's such a blast to drive since the conversion, lol.
@@TomleyRC @Tomley RC Yes it's def a nice rig you got and glad you finally got the 1 you wanted. We all have that 1 we truly want and hopefully will aventually get. Yes it was a shame with my traxxas issue as I liked my udr and several of the traxxas rigs and would've bought more products if they treated me differently but it is wat it is. It was just easier to give my business to a company who treats me like a customer. Good luck with your summit and hope enjoy it 👍
Love these things! Amazing flex for a double wishbone system and I honestly think it's all the crawler a lot of people would ever need with the added bonus of being a good basher too. Not super fast with the brushed motor but they usually have enough speed to be interesting once the motor breaks in properly. An upgrade to brushless would be an obvious choice these days. Some people will say it can't handle it and others say it's bullet proof lol. From what I've seen, if you're not abusing it too bad it should hold up quite well but the diffs need to be shimmed or better still, get metal diff end caps/bells. There's cheap metal ones from China these days which do the job nicely apparently. I wouldn't make it super fast but I reckon about about 30-40ish top speed whilst still being able to crawl would be perfect.
Awesome video as always. My awesome brother got me the Traxxas Snap-On limited edition 35 hot rod truck for Christmas. I can't wait till the weather clears up so I can take it out. I definitely need to get a different body for it so I don't crack or scratch the original one, its far too nice for that. Its my second Gracias. My first,I still have,is a 2 wheel drive stampede that I've had for about 15 years. I'm in the process of upgrading the electronics
A great truck and very underrated in my opinion. It goes EVERYWHERE literally. Wait till the snow comes and you’ll see how amazing this truck is. Try it in the woods, it goes over any log rock etc. one of my favorite trucks!!! P. S. Try it with two 8.4volt nimh batteries and you’ll get more punch!!!
One thing that is great about the full size is the dust boots and seals it the suspension and drivetrain. Looking at my 1/16th I just inherited, the drive shafts and pillow balls are open to get dirt and moisture in them. I wish the 1/16th had remote diffs and Hi/low Trans.
I was lucky, I got a mamba monster powered summit with rpm upgrades everywhere and is my favourite, most used rctruck. It's not the very best at anything but definitely one of the best do it all, 'Jack of all Trades' rigs money can buy. Its very very fast on 6s and still quite good a crawling in low gear. A great trail rig 🙂🙂
Dude I FINALLY just ordered one. Couldn't pass it up; good price, free shipping, and with flexible Affirm payments. Can't wait to unbox it! (My wife will not be happy 😄)
Agreed it’s massive for what it is! We were really underwhelmed with this truck though. It did absolutely anything - but weirdly it did nothing well... who knows, maybe it was the right car at the wrong time for us hope you enjoy it more than we did!✌🏼
Yeah, I think they are a very good all rounder, but not an all out crawler or basher so could be a bit 'meh' to some. I've got a few ideas for this one ;)
always wanted one too but never pulled the trigger on one love that basically nothing stops the summit it plows threw or over anything theres a used one in my area maybe i snag it up n put a mamba max in or something lol glad ya got one homie
Awwwww yer I'm excited you've got one I nearly bought one instead of my trx4 now I get to really find out if it's worth $900 will be following this one very closely 👊👍💯
Hi! I bought a summit a couple years ago I don't know why on RU-vid channels they never test it or pay attention to it, it is an excellent and versatile rc, I have a lot of fun with it thanks for your video, it was very good
As a owner of two of them for years, three things that are a must in my opinion. Upgrade the micro servos to the traxxas metal geared ones ( On my new summit they went out in about 3 or so runs and stripped out so I got the metal ones after that) And go up a tooth or two depending on what you want on the pinion and third tighten the slipper clutch down makes it way more punch down low.
I owned 5 of them over the years. One pretty much tuned out, the list of upgrades was endless. It’s a money pit. I’m trying to get a 2 gear transmission in my Arrma BigRock to create a similar experience as the summit (bound to fail).
I Absolutely Love my 1st Gen. Traxxas Summit! It's all original except for the Proline Trenchers. Still runs strong and even better when I went with 2s liposuction. Have fun and enjoy. It will go many places.
@@TomleyRC lol very true! But to be fair it's really good at that one thing. I see the summit as a bit of a jack of all trades though, good if you can only afford one rc i guess, but not particularly good at any one thing. As always though you do a good job of presenting and demonstrating the RC, i just don't fancy the Slaxxas Tummit 😄 keep up the good work though. 👍✌🏼
I've got a first generation Summit. It is quite incredible what it crawls over. The only thing I wish it had was the crawl mode like the TRX4 does. I would change out the ESC to the ESC from the TRX4 but it is only rated for 3s. It's hard to find something that accepts 6s, but is a crawler ESC. My first gen summit doesn't have a LVC and is really only ment to run NIHM batteries. I bought a castle ESC and motor combo about the same time I got it but haven't burnt out the stock motor or ESC yet. It is a good RC I think.
My one complaint about the Summit was the poor efficiency/run time with the high voltage 775 motor. Not enough to commit to going for a goodly long walk in the bush with it, considering the number of batteries required to lug around. I changed mine to a 2~3S water proof sensored esc and a 1/8 sensored 2600kv motor from Hobbyking (I had to run an external 10A BEC to power all the servos), but I wired the batteries in parallel.. So the motor running on 7.4v is super efficient and collectively doubling the battery capacity, but spins the same speed as the 775 Titan on 14 volts. So much torque it blew the grub screw section out of the stock pinion :P **edit** However, the locking diffs are not as strong as the E-Revo and don't last if you do a 4S + Brushless set up like the E-Revo.
@@TomleyRC There be plenty if you try 4 ~ 6S big air bashing XD Seen a bit of that while in the industry. If a customer mentioned intent for a MMM and 2650 swap into a Summit they were looking at, I'd usher them to the E-Revo and the stage 3 cantilever kit.
Out of all the ones I let go of over the years the 1/10 summit is the one I regret getting rid of. And I'm having a hard time finding any locally reasonably priced anyway. Awesome video buddy.that thing is an unstoppable monster
Oh yeah I remember that I really fancied getting one of these a few years back. Sadly Traxxas went way down in my estimation when they tried to put everyone out of business with stupid lawsuits. I'm surprised that they didn't claim to have invented putting round wheels on RC cars! They can sod the flip off as far as I'm concerned! It is a nice bit of kit though to be fair and wouldn't mind being sent one for free :-)
Yes, I still don't like how they do business. But I've come to the conclusion that nearly all the Manufacturers out there don't really give 2 sh!ts about us as the customers... so I'm just going to enjoy everyones RC's... Hope you had a good Xmas Pete. Any new RC's?
@@TomleyRC yeah I know they are all just mega corporations but I do like the way that Jason Dearden of Arrma will take the time to explain why things sometimes go wrong and works to sort them out. I don't think you'd see those types of honest interviews with the Traxxas MD. I wouldn't entirely rule out getting a Traxxas product if they made something that really appealed to me that no-one else was making. Hope you had a great Xmas too. Pretty quiet here but plenty of booze. No new RC's as yet. I keep going on and off the idea of a Losi LMT. It would be the most expensive RC I'd ever bought. It does look the business though doesn't it?
Yeah Arrma are one of the better ones... but they are slowly slipping down the big corporation slope with Horizon. Let’s hope they don’t get to ‘big’ of you know what I mean. That LMT looks so cool! 😎
I feel the same way, they make some great stuff but have become a corporate monster. Buying up patents for things that have been around for years simply because nobody else bothered before is a dick move and when they killed the Arrma Nero and Vaterra Twin Hammers for having suspension Bandai, Tenth technology etc had already used in the 80s and 90s was awful. Believe it or not, they had a patent on their website for a "semi pneumatic tyre with tread" at one point but it's not there now. They sued HPI too for using a receiver box that was two plastic halves with a rubber seal in between. Only in Texas would they have been granted a patent for something like that in the first place!
Nice video! I also have a summit on my list, there are so many modding options: more realistic looking tires, rock bouncer bodies, maybe a castle sensored system so you can switch between crawler mode with drag brake in first gear, and normal brake in 2nd. I hope you’re having fun with it!
Medic loves rc construction equipment more because thats all he really plays with. I deleted his channel because watching a rc fork lift load a rc semi isnt that cool to watch amd Jang loves Legos more then this truck and now has a Lego channel amd quit the rc channel lol
@@Vaterraman haha yes he was. He was proud of his first gen rustler and how he won a few races lol. Traxxas only wins at my local track when the top brands break lol
@@jeffbryner5355 I remember him putting up posts about his modded Rustler, thinking it's the ultimate machine. I was banned from the forum after commenting on how the little LaTrax rally car had slick tires, and he just argued that most real rally is on road, so it made perfect sense to have zero tread on the tires. He constantly attacked the posts I made about my Vaterra Glamis Uno, such as saying it sucks because its only 2wd, it sucks because it has more 1/10 sizes wheels, and not the standard 1/8 wheels of a 1/8 buggy. Had it been a Traxxas Glamis Uno, he would have been complementing the great scale looks. I didn't love Traxxas ever, but he made me start hating Traxxas.
Now, the best summit and/or e revo are the mini brushless versions. The summit is hard to get now, but they still make the e revo if you don’t already have one.
You can turn a 1/16th revo into a Summit easy. 1. Wheels & tires. 2. Long travel suspension rockers. 3. Change springs (revo is green, sommit is blue) 4. Check pinion/spur gear ratio preference.
Make sure to switch out the hardware with stainless steel. I got mine from rc raven. 20$ and about 2 hours but its worth it to avoid the rust. That stock hardware rusts if u sneeze too close to it
@@TomleyRC It is very nice, I have several Revo's and the Summit kinda brings the best of both worlds, slow and fast :) I really wonder why they have not released a Summit VXL Brushless this size, price ? Anyway will convert mine later, i'm looking for nicer crawl speeds.
You know what? I've wanted one about that long too! 😳 Don't know why, but there is a cool factor to it. There are stronger Bashers, it's not Scale by any stretch, and it's NOT a Crawler... But it's one of those rare Trucks that does everything at least adequately! And I STILL want one. 😉 Wishing you further prosperity in 2021 my Friend!! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Love my Summit! It's not really a basher, but it's som much fun and very capable. Hope you taped the vent holes in your wheels! I put some big Proline Trenchers and the Proline Apocalypse body on it. Instant bad ass truck!
A Legendary R/C Truck, im so glad i picked one up "pre-covid" with all the LEM & RPM extras/ goodies before the price hike on EVERYTHING ! Oh an a 14.4V Dewalt Conversion for a bit more Speed & Torque. Its Still phenomenal at crawling but now its made to last. I also choose the purple one too. 😊 Cheers for the video. 👍 Note - Dont go Brushless ! It defeats the purpose of the epic rockcrawler. I know i never will.
Makes me wish I had a good place to bash around a vehicle like that. That thing has some amazing crawling performance, and love the different features with the toggle switches. They've really outdone themselves with the summit.
Pretty nice truck, dude! Great bashing! 😃 You know, it's not a speed demon, but it's pretty nice! 😃 Happy new year! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 BTW, you're going to transform it into a speed demon... Aren't you? 🤨
Update I also went with purp an idea you plane to bash have someone make you a motor brass for between chassis and motor for when you land after a big jump
great purchase brotha. I had 2 of these but sold one recently I won't ever sell my other one it'll stay with me forever. you get the best of both world crawling king and basher. great video 💯👍💪
Run it on batteries with a higher c-rating I got 27 kmh on grass out of mine (I have 7000mah 50c lipo) And you need to switch of the lipo cut of and use a lipo alarm instead, because it throttles at 50% battery to 50% throttle Im really looking forward to the next video with it!
I've got the same Summit and I can only say I hope you have a better experience regarding reliability. It is an awesome crawler and can out perform my dedicated crawlers in that respect and it has what I would describe as unique handling the way it sags, dips and lifts an inside wheel as it lollops around. Tons of fun. Just an edit to say that although it has 2 x 2s batteries I think the load is shared where only 1 battery powers the drive system and the other powers the electronics so technically it's a 2s powered motor which is probably why you're underwhelmed. Correct me if I'm wrong but try plugging in one battery at a time and you'll find you can power up the car on just one battery but the other one powers the motor.
I just watched you race Kevin, so I checked out your channel. I also have a Summit, but mine has a snowplow on it. I love Traxxas RC's for 2 main reasons. I only need 1 transmitter for all my cars and their guarentee. I just bought 2 LMTs and now I got to find a transmitter that I can bind to both. So of course I also had to buy 1/5 scale Outcast roller to justify that transmitter. Or I could just put Traxxas receivers in all of them. But I do like the battery level on the spectrum transmitter.
Great to see you've got one! They've always been so cool! Awesome crawl at the end! Oh, and I almost forgot it came with the 775 motor. I have a 775 in my TT-02 😁
@@TomleyRC and it's direct drive! I managed a 52.3mph so far on 6s. Still needs some adjustments to try for sixty. After that it's 8s.... for curiosity sake. It'll be neat to see what you end up doing with that Summit. I've always though they were awesome. Currently building a mini version with my 1/16 revo even.
Hehe, oops, forgot to comment on here when I got mine last year! £275 off Fleabay for a used one! It all worked, but the tires were kind of old and splut in places, and now one of the diff lock servos has quit. Traxxas servos are way too expensive, so I've ordered some metal gear servos and we'll see if I can "waterproof" them when they arrive.
it's more on the 1/8 scale and two brushless motors way too go and you can use DeWalt drill motors works great.. you want try and get a set of jumbo kong wheels very rare but looks great on the truck
Good video. The Summit is an awesome truck! It's not the fastest, but it's not supposed to be. I do wish there were more tire/wheel options for it though. We have a blast with ours in the snow.
Thanks tomley, had no idea this thing is a crawler too. Being new to the hobby nobody does videos on them, very cool, very capable @ crawling and a decent basher!
Ah the summit. I never owned a full size. I converted my 1/16th e revo into a mini summit a year or so before I started my youtibe. Miss that little thing. It went everywhere. Kept up with 1/10th scx10s. Had 1.55 swampers on it. The revo and summit are almost the same really. Was kinda interesting Awesome choice man.
I don't get the snobbery about traxxas. I have 3 so far and they are user-friendly easy to repair and upgrade and they are plenty fast. I am about to get my oldest daughter a 2wd Slash as her starter truck. I love them worth every penny if you just wanna hot rod and bash.
Very cool rig man! Just don’t try to go brushless with it because it’s a rabbit hole you and your wallet don’t want to go down...don’t ask me how I know lol. Swap out the servos and hardware to stainless and you’re good! MAYBE a second titan motor and esc would work, but I went with the Kershaw dual motor conversion and couldn’t keep up with broken driveshafts and ring gears. Spurs as well. It’s a great truck as is and should stay that way mostly imo.
take it from someone who built one like on rc sparks with LEM diff cups,LEM driveshafts,Traxxas steel center shafts, 1/8th scale brushless system, 40 series wheels, the whole 9 yards..... wasn't worth it by far lmao i traded it for a losi dbxl lol it was fun but wasnt worth the over 1500$ i had in it
Bit slow for the price I wouldn't think it would coast a boat load to speed it up a bit though Definitely cool looking and stable for as tall as it is ✌️
