For friends who go to the plateau area for the first time, it is best to ask a tour guide to accompany you. This requirement has nothing to do with your nationality, because improper handling of altitude sickness will lead to life danger. This is really not a joke, and the tour guide knows where to provide emergency assistance.

My mother, who was 76, with high blood pressure and diabetes, visited Shangri LA via Kunming and she suffered no ill effects. The trick is to take things easy, walk slowly, talk softly and give yourself time to acclimatise. Always have a small canister of oxygen nearby. May be you can try Shangri La if Tibet is out of reach. Best wishes to you.

@@justme6275 Having high blood pressure is still not a good idea unless it's well controlled with medicine. To those with pride and prejudice, I would like to say: Tibet's famous natural landscapes are often more than 5 hours' drive from the nearest town. Two of the three holy lakes are above 5,500 meters above sea level. If severe altitude sickness occurs, there is no need to call an ambulance. You have already Sentenced to death, so even for domestic tourists, tour guides will tell you over and over again about the dangers and how to avoid such tragedies. If you don't understand the language and don't have a tour guide with you at all times, no one knows what will happen. You may They will say, I have no problem, I am strong, and I respect your philosophy of not taking your life seriously, but please do not die on the land of Tibet casually. The locals regard this place as a pure land and pollute it. is not acceptable. At the same time, Tibet is facing various separatist forces all the time. If you care about these, you should know that there is a living Buddha who betrayed us. He still lives under the asylum of the United States. On the contrary, our government has carried out a lot of foundation work in Tibet. Construction, on your way to Tibet, you should notice that there are a lot of high-voltage wires on the top of the bare mountain. They bring electricity to Tibet. You can imagine how breathless you are standing on the mountain. Let’s see how arduous a project it is to erect high-voltage electricity towers on the top of the mountain. However, the current villages in Tibet are built by the government for free and provided to the local people for living and use. The Chinese government has no restrictions and obliterates Tibetan Buddhism. Otherwise, today, You can't see anything, can you? I hope your third trip will help you look at China more objectively. Of course our government is not perfect. On the contrary, it has various problems. As long as it is not pride and prejudice, we welcome your valuable opinions and look forward to it. You discover problems from a different perspective than ours and help us improve ourselves. I wish you a pleasant journey.

1) Half of Sichuan is Tibet. and yunnan too. 2) China is killing innocent Tibetans and imprisoning them for no good reasons. 3) Tibetans are 85% farmers and make a living by trading mushrooms and special insect that is used for medicine by chinese. 4) Recently a big Tibetan school was forcefully closed by china for no reason. 80% of Tibetan kids are forced to go to chinese boarding schools far away from home and there they learn only chinese and chinese history and culture. Most times onlty a few weeks they see parents every 3 months or so. 5) Tibetan monasteries and villages are being destroyed because china wanted to build a dam(that could destroy nearby nature and water) but most times the dam never comes and the village is already destroyed and monastery too.Leaving small monks and normal without education of tibetan history, religion or culture. The ones who protest against anything what china has to say go to jail or die. 6) Tibetans who protest against anything what china has to say go to jail or die.Or even saying Tibet is great or having HH Dalai Lama picture. Also being patriotic is illegal for tibetans. 7) 1,4 million tibetans killed in less than a decade by chinese invasion.Still counting! 8) China spread fake news to justify their occupying of tibet by saying there was slavery but there was no proof.Tibetans serfed the Dalai Lama and they called this slavery. China had way worse slavery and still has slavery till this day. Child labors or labor camps for Uyghurs and Tibetans. 9) When china invaded Tibet no one wanted them. That's why 1 in every 6 tibetans died that time.Tanks vs farmers.Still this day no tibetan wants them. 10) People say Tibet is now better than what it used to be because of china but that is not the reason. If tibet was independent it would have been better than nowadays where tibetans are still farmers and have less chance to make good money.Tibet is in central asia with himalaya that tourism alone would make good income for tibet. Free Tibet and East Turkestan for always.

I really like this series, rural China is the gem. The reason Tibet is restricted to foreigners is there have been a lot of foreign spy agencies send people there to plan and launch a separation movement. Chinese government doesn’t really stop people to visit Tibet if they just simply explore the culture, like you. In the uk, where I’m staying, and the states, I often see people holding a Tibet flag, they made that as so called “national” flag referring Tibet as a country instead of a province in China, protesting along the road where a country leader visits. Those people who have been instigated are still active overseas with the back of some western counties. Basically a lot of countries want China to be divided into a lot of different small countries like the former soviet unions. Then China could be massively slashed in economy and military power to make no rivals to other countries. Most of the weird policies to foreigners in China could be traced down to what foreign agencies did in China. China is just trying to protect himself from outside harm, aka self defence. Hope you can embrace the weirdness and enjoy your rural journey in China. Best wishes.

If you don't care for any of that and believe it's just territorial wars then how about how China treats their own civilians? Have you heard about their forced organ harvesting?

For those who have never lived at high altitude, over 3000m, flying into Lhasa 3600m is not a good idea. It takes about 5 days to adapt to the atmosphere. I took the train from Xining Qihai which is already at about 3000m, and I still had high altitude sickness the first few days in Lhasa. I had to really slow down movement to avoid short of breath. Keep taking the O2 is not a good idea, because you aren't adapting yourself to the new atmosphere. Using the O2 should be for serious headache and purple nails only, a sign of serious lack of oxygen in the body.

As someone who have been to Tibet plateau dozens of times, I fully understand how altitude sickness kicks in. A lot of people talks about taking some sort of pills...that is really not the key. First, avoid sudden body workout, don't stand up like you would in lower altitude, take your time, do everything slowly and force yourself breath deeper. Try to have more veges and fruits, and less protein-rich food to help digestion. It is kinda unfortunate that heavier people are more likely to suffer from severe altitude sickness, because your body ask more oxygen to maintain itself. So the key is still making less movement, eat accordingly, and use oxygen.

@@jasonyap7634 there are other reasons but I didn't want to get too political. people from certain western countries have to excuse the small inconvenience incurred in their travels in some parts of china. you have to understand for example the cia has been documented for inciting riots and terrorism within chinese soil including tibet and more recently hong kong. certain countries including the one these two are from constantly smear china with lies any which way and any time possible and use their media as propaganda tools. the usa also removed a once labeled terrorist organization from their terrorist list, and extremist organization that sent people to the kunming train station and hacked innocent people with machetes resulting in dozens of deaths. As far as I know, sky burial is not open to the public in recent years. 30 years ago, we could witness sky burial in Tibet. The scene was quite astonishing particularly when you see the master cut the corpse into pieces and the eagle ate the remains. When I talked to the Tibetian, most of them were grateful to the government as the later provided them with respectfuland fairly "good" lives (to me, they were still very poor at that time) , not as serfs under the noble monks at the 1950s. This image was quite different from what the USA said in recent years about Tibet.

He can explain the history of Tibet to my son in English. My son also thought that Tibet should be liberated before. After listening to the history, he knew that Tibet was part of China in the Qing Dynasty. Before the settlement, Tibet was a slave system. It was the new China that abolished the Loudi system. In addition, due to scheduling issues, our flight left at 2 pm on the last day. We had to visit the Potala Palace in the morning, which was too late because of the long queue. In the end, the tour guide explained that we were the first to enter the visit and catch the return flight. It is much more convenient to hire a local tour guide. In addition, the first night in Tibet is the most uncomfortable, so you must take painkillers and sleeping pills. Other medicines are useless. It will be much better the next day. @@kennykhoo1689 do you really think she hates China? Use some critical thinking. She made an entire video telling anti China idiots to touch grass like 2 videos ago. Unfortunately this commenter is upset that josie doesn’t praise 24/7 like many of the other RU-vidrs do. It’s an unfortunate consequence of social media. Josie being fair and balanced and honest means that they judge her against the hundreds of RU-vidrs who just plain lie about how much they like China for views. There are so many of them. I saw someone say that the food they were served on the high speed rail was delicious 😂 - we know this is just pandering to the locals for views, because those same people did the same thing in every other country they go to. It’s amazing how every country they visit is the most beautiful and has the best food and has the best people, isn’t it? Josie is honest. But because of this, when she says things like “the booking process was a little difficult” or “the train was a little hot”, she receives abuse for having little observations like this. Chinese social media netizens need to make a decision. People like Josie are real and honest. This means that those watching from outside of China get an honest picture (and 90% of what Josie says is positive, and breaks down the western stereotypes). Or they can back those that lie for views and pretend everything is 100% perfect. The problem is, those from the west can spot these sorts of fakes easily, and it looks worse for China. No country is 100% perfect. Small criticisms of booking processes is not hating China lol.

The only thing I feel unfare to present Tibetans is that, for many reasons, most (most, not all) Tibetans cannot get a passport so they cannot travel abroad. The restrictions are easing, slowly, so hopefully this will change in the near future. Still, most Tibetans I know, especially old ones, are not really interested in going abroad so that does not bother them.

In 1986 I flew into Tibet from Chengdu and spent a week touring the city and local areas, and then bussed out from Lhasa to Golmud. Throughout the 1990s, I lived in China and spent many summers mountain biking throughout Tibet. The route of the train that goes into Lhasa now, I bicycled with three Western companions, during the summer in 1993. I bicycled from Lhasa to Kunming in the summer of 1994 with the Tibetan friend. And in 1999, I bicycle from Chengdu to Lhasa, onto Shirgatse, Mt Everest base camp, Mt Kailash and stopped biking after reaching Kashir. Metaphorically speaking, my soul resides on the high plateau.. ☺️
