The pinchi shoe part made me realize something.. In ancient China.. Higher class women would basically wear small shoes which it calls foot binding.. It modifies the size of their feet and it's a symbol of status back then... Man.. That would have hurt walking around with it
No worries, on Mulan's time, probably Tang Dynasty, there's still no such thing as foot binding. The Next dynasty, Song Dynasty, during this time, Foot binding becomes a painful tradition to some han woman.
@@jhengleone I forget exactly when it’s supposed to take place but Xiran Jay Zhao figured out the exact year based on hints from both movies. It’s in their Mulan 2 review where they talk about the different historical bits and pieces. I highly suggest their videos. They do ones in general Chinese history as well.
if you watch some kdramas with ancient concepts you would actually see some girls who do pretty much whatever they want or work in a way they like and some female royalties that need to maintain grace
omg I just watched Mulan 2 last night on the fourth. This song also makes me think about myself and my personality,Thank you for making this song!!!!!!🎉🤓🌹⚜😁🙂😇👯👼👑👑👑
Sadly royalty has to follow strict rules and can't be free from the rules sure being a princess can be good but at the same time don't you want to choose your own life?
It´s funny how I like the beginning. The serious music, the sad but true lyrics. And the rest of the song just... isn´t all that interesting to me. :')
Funny song, first time I heard it only in Russian ( my language), when I was little, I watched "Mulan 2" on VHS with Russian dubbing, this is why I had not heard original before. I remember the time, my sister watched the cartoon on VHS with her friends, and I watched too. Good song and good cartoon! 👍👍
No it isn't. In first world countries, mgirls have more freedom than they've ever had but in countries like Saudi Arabia like the other commenter said, yes girls are still held back. But don't say this still applies like it applies everywhere.
THAT IS HIGHLY FALSE AS WOMEN HAVE MORE RIGHTS IN THIS AGE THAN IT WAS 100 YEARS AGO. THEY CAN WORK ALMOST ANY JOB OPPORTUNITES THEY CAN DREAM OF AND BE FREE WHEREVER THEY WANT ! ( Except for middle eastern countries ig and pay gap is still evident in several countries and treatment which I hope it ends already)
I used to love this movie as a kid, and of course I still like this song, but it’s so Westernized to the point it makes me kinda mad. Wouldn’t it have been cool if they’d fought for women’s rights instead? If they realized that other girls aren’t actually free at all?
@@cutleyaurilxna9424 Yeah... It is a kids movie, but the first Mulan was exactly about this: if the kids got it the first time around, I bet that they would have understood the second time as well, don't you think? I mean, this saga literally contains war, racism, suicide and murder already... I shipped them with the soldiers too, but I am pretty confident that it is something kids can handle.
I'm glad you answered me on the thumbnail " like holding a lily" now I know after all these years lol. I watched this back in VHS days and I just turned 25 on December 30th sheesh time flies damn
