I was led to believe this will be a 56 minutes video about plopping only 16 lane highways, and a beautiful grid of skyscrapers, not this puny village. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Great video, I really enjoy the cs1 content a lot! There's just so much more room for creativity here!

I make a conscious effort to avoid T-junctions (except with one way roads) and generally, stopping, I want people to be able to just "get in lane" and be where they want to be. I only work with the base game (for reasons) and not having options for a "no right turn" at intersections is killing me, and every main road is slowly dissolving into a greater-city-area one-way system. Seeing how it works with so many junctions is interesting to me.

A great trick that i tend to do is make a grid pattern of roads but then delete the road segments in specific places in order to create a sort of grid of blocks that only have T intersections but only for vehicles traffic. I then replaced the original roads with ones only pedestrians/cyclists can only use so that you can reduce traffic jams at intersections while increasing pedestrian access to everything. As a result you get a more walkable city grid with easier access for truck shipments to local shops and transit services like bus and tram lines.

@@Ilikefire2792I try to reduce junctions by making large blocks that you can walk between easily, which is sort of the same idea in another direction. I also have my industrial areas set up so they're integrated into the grid but back onto the highways. No industrial area is more than a few turns from a cargo station. Oh but I'm base game, so I'm stuck having a district just to pump waste out of the city.

I do this a lot in my own City builds. Some people find American style cities incredibly boring because they are just grids, which is somewhat fair, But I love seeing how different grids formed and connected. Especially when based on some kind of terrain: Grids next to hills or bodies of waters. Where they follow curves and then need to connect in various ways. Those awkward spaces make great parks or spots for specific buildings like Services.

What I find funny is a lot of CS players say us style cities are all grids and European style cities aren't. Yet Barcelona is extremely gridded and Charlotte North Carolina has been proven to be the least gridded city in the world.

As a resident of Pittsburgh, I am more than familiar with funky grids, bizarre intersections, and poor traffic patterns. 😂 I'm glad you're just chilling and having fun with the game again. It seems like CS2 has caused a lot of stress and consternation, so it's a good time to revisit CS1 for some grid therapy.

I grew up in New Orleans (too young to really remember it) and I now live in Seattle. Watching this video made me realize that I went from one city with mismatched grids and weird intersections to another. Your city looks a lot like New Orleans, but with hills. Like a mashup of New Orleans and Seattle.

Opuntias as a city name, from one of the two families of cactus, to suit the southwest theme Districts and neighborhoods can be named after different common names of cactus, such as saguaro, prickly pear, lemonvine/gooseberry, etc. go wild, go crazy.

That's a nice extension to your city you've built, Diana! 😊 Your new area has a sort of New England meets Latin America vibe, so given your city's name I'd like this area to be called "Santa Palma Centre". The commercial strip next to the park can be called "Centre Street" and the commercial zone for the couplet can be called "Simón Bolivar Avenue". Don't forget to rename the streets! 😉
