Veruca may be a brat and all but at the end of the day the actress did a really good job portraying Veruca. What's funny is that in real life she is such a sweetheart according to her co stars.
A spoiled brat is more like it. She has no patience, no heart, no compassion, no selfless bone in her body. She’s greedy, careless, selfish, heartless, no-good, lazy, bossy, and ungrateful. Hopefully that garbage shoot makes her see she can’t get what she wants. It would serve her right if she had everyone laugh at her and also the maids force her to have a bath with hot water and shampoo that stings her eyes. Her bratty ways annoy me.
I know right! Seen this film many times but this was the first time I thought that. He didn't care if she was 'sizzled like a sausage' he cared that the process to getting her sizzled was delayed lol.
A few years ago, I went to a theatrical screening of Willy Wonka. When the little girl got to her last line and she got what was coming to her, the audience in the theater actually got up from their seats and cheered when she went down the garbage shoot.
@@cinnamonroll1922honestly i don't see it that way They aren't booing at the actress They are booing at the character And plus if you're bood by kids because you're character is evil Then that means you're an outstanding actress who played them right
He couldn’t care because none of the kids even listen anyway. And he knows well of the punishment that’s waiting for And he couldn’t care less and honestly who could blame him because she had that coming to her.
Yes the Charlie in this one was definitely a good lad the only good one of the bunch of kids that were invited to Mr Wonka's factory by getting a golden ticket I think we can excuse Charlie and Grandpa Joe the fizzy lifting drink thing Mr Wonka only did that thing where he made it look like Charlie was going to lose in the end because he wanted to know for sure of course whether he would let someone else have access to the everlasting gobstopper and he passed the test he won everything lifetime supply of chocolate and something even better as soon as he was at the age of majority Mr Willy Wonka's factory would become his own because Mr Wonka chose little Charlie as his heir. He could never have chosen any of the other children as his successor Augustus certainly wouldn't have been the right choice because all he liked to do was eat sweets and other stuff Violet certainly wouldn't have been the right choice because she didn't want to listen to him when he said that she shouldn't mess with that gum veruca certainly wasn't a good choice because she was a brat a spoiled little brat who had to have her way all the time and Mike wasn't the right choice because look at what he had happened he tampered with Mr Wonka's Wonka vision thing the TV thing where it could send chocolate and other food items by TV in fact Charlie was the only choice he was a good young lad and Mr Wonka knew that he could trust him to keep all his secrets to never let out any of his secret recipes so that anyone could copy them anymore and could treat the oompa loompas well Charlie was the perfect choice a nice sweet boy anyone would want for a son!
Veruca Salt may have been an absolutely insufferable creature but damn, did she absolutely own this scene. Bravo Julie Dawn Cole, thank you for portraying the ultimate bad egg.
Love how the Oompa (when Veruca takes the egg) is thinking "please put that egg down and put it down softly". And he looks worried about what she's going to do until she puts it down. And when Veruca stands in front of her dad talking to Wonka, I love his bored reaction on his face. He has no intention of feeding into her. Love it!
I just love when Veruca throws the wrapping over Wonka, that none of it actually touches him. I have to wonder if they planned for that, or it was just a cool coincidence that they managed to capture on film.
R.I.P. Gene Wilder. We'll miss you. "She was a bad egg." You can say that again! It goes to show why you can't always get what you want. Also, Willy Wonka isn't interested in her wishes of wanting this and that by force. She was a spoiled rotten brat! Or better yet rotten egg! That's why she was definitely indeed a bad egg!
@All the men fancy me - Why would he be jealous of her? She's not going to replace him in his grandfather's affections. Nor would he envy her, since she's a walking demonstration of the bad side of wealth.
I love how Mr. Wonka was standing perfectly still as Veruca sang, but covered his eyes when she started tearing everything apart. At 2:15, he is rubbing his face, trying not to get frustrated. 😂😂 I love Gene Wilder. ❤ You can even see him shake his head slightly, as though thinking ‘don’t, don’t. You don’t know what’s coming. You won’t get off easily for destroying my beautiful room.’ 😂
Still rambling away I see. What your saying is purely your own opinion with no factual basis. Veruca is just a spoilt brat who's been brought up poorly and expects to get what she wants when she wants it, but that has nothing to do with the political stuff you're babbling on about. Absolutely nothing about her character suggests that in today's world she would be a "rabid feminist SJW" and all that. You're like one of those conspiracy freaks who's obsessed with the Illuminati so you notice when triangle shapes and hand gestures appear, then you blog about how it's all part of the Elite's plan to brainwash kids, etc. Here's my point in a nutshell: Stop expressing your opinion! It's just dreadful!
In that era there quite a few memorable musicals. Musicals were very popular. Not so much today. It was surprising that La La Land, a musical, was well made and received.
You know it’s funny how everyone hates her when the movie has an entire song about how yeah she’s a brat but at the end of the day it’s her dad’s fault for spoiling her.
I'll never stop being amazed at how perfectly the yellow plastic drops around Gene Wilder, then everything else in the shot goes right on cue. Great performances, especially the remarkable Julie Dawn Cole.
Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt) smashed a watermelon-sized chocolate egg on a rock in the chocolate room that she didn’t know was real. She badly cut her left knee falling onto it, and if you watch carefully in her first scene with the egg you can see that her left stocking is bloody. She still has a scar on her knee from the injury.
AHHH! I remember I did this song for an OLIVER audition and I ended up getting Nancy. Now a year later I see this on my recommended and I remember the amazing memories it gave me :)
He probably just couldn't be bothered because he clearly new that she was just a spoilt brat who expects to get whatever she wants and so just wasn't worth it.
I'm like that but sing better and my dads always like...."of course sweet heart you can get anything!" And also I'm kinder and sweeter so I'm a good egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Veruca: Gooses Me: Not quite right, sweetheart, but try again. Veruca: Geese- Me:There you go you got said it rig- Veruca:-es Me:JUST SAY GEESE OR GOOSE
CosmicUndeadElf yep, but in history she said at the time the movie was being made, she had a crush on Charlie. Also when the movie was released in 1971her 2nd husband was born.
"I WANT ONE! I WANT MY OWN ARMY! I WANT MY OWN PLANET!" That moment you realise Pink Diamond from Steven Universe is actually Veruca from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Why do I get the feeling that if Violet hadn't chewed that gum and turned into a giant blueberry, she would've thrown Veruca down the garbage chute herself?
Best scene of the entire movie The Wonka factory is officially closed since MR Wonka is no longer with us but the memories of this movie will live on in generations to come thank you Mr Wonka for making us have chocolate dreams come true
FUN FACT: This scene was shot on Julie Dawn Cole's birthday and after she slid down the chute, she discovered her birthday cake with candles and the cast and crew entered seconds later to surprise her with a party. Cole had three gifts which were the props: the egg, gobstopper, and golden ticket. In addition, although Cole sang "I want it now", what you see here is a lip-sync performance; her vocals were done prior to filming and she mimed during the shoot.
Mr salt; where she gone? Wonka:the garbage shoot Then Mr.Salt laughs. Mr.Salt: where does it lead to? Wonka: the furnace. He laughs again. Mr Salt: she will be a sausage Wonka: she'll be stuck in the tube He laughs again Mr.Salt: Hold on Veruca, Daddys coming! Then wonka doesn't care
1867Phoenix I think Caitlyn Tube was saying that the 2005 version was based on the book. You are right that it was the squirrels in the 1964 novel. However, this film came out in 1971, and they didn't have the technology to portray a bunch of squirrels. Plus tbh I like the geese better.
I think the newer Charlie and the Chocolate factory followed the actual book, because she did get attacked by squirrels, lol. She is always a brat though, but apparently the incinerator wasn’t on because it was broken which is lucky for them, and kinda weird that Willy Wonka didn’t care. 😭😭
The actress did a brilliant performance! They didn’t have the technology back then to get trained squirrels on set and adapt the Nut Room scene so they had the actress perform this number and got Veruca eliminated 😅
