@@Jeff_Biden the author begs to differ. And since he created Willy Wonka, his opinion reigns supreme. Depp's is closer to the book. Have you tried reading the book?
@@arvinroidoatienza7082 appeal to authority fallacy anyway genes version is charming and depp looks like an emaciated tumblr user who hasnt gone outside in years
@@Jeff_Biden Roald Dahl is the authority here because he created Willy Wonka and the books itself. He decided what Willy Wonka should look and act like. So it applies and not fallacious. Also your statement is based on personal opinion, which is also fallacious and biased. Willy Wonka isn't actually charming and he hasn't gone outside in years because he is busy managing his chocolate factory, pal.
i noticed when johnny depp needs to say a line where the character just mumbles and talks something fast under his breath, Johnny just uses his normal voice for it and doesn't even use the character's persona. somehow it still works ????????
@@MrWolfSnack part of that is probably because you voice can change dramatically as you change the volume even if you don't realize it, hence why he could get away with it so easily
My favorite line in the movie is when Wonka introduces the chocolate room : "Everything in this room is eatable, even I am eatable! But that is called cannibalism and is in fact frowned upon in most societies."
@@brandonelizondo7018 The kid who plays Charlie looks like the young version of the guy who plays the autistic surgeon from The Good Doctor (from the memes). Or maybe he's the same actor, idk I'm too lazy to look it up lol
"Everything in this room is eatable. Even I am eatable, but that is called cannibalism, my dear children. And it is in fact frowned upon in most societies."
He's awkward because he's been in the factory for a very long time, never came out and even refused to let people come inside. The only employees he had was the oompa loompas which weren't even considered as humans honestly. So it's logical to make him awkward because he hadn't make a human contact with anyone outside the factory which made him lose all the social skills.
I suffer from depression and social anxiety, and during the pandemic I was a shut in for a year and a half. It totally fucked with my social skills, what little I had. So imagine never seeing anyone for years and years and only having weird little aliens for company. You'd probably forget how to act normal too.
I love his ethics of why he won't allow Augustus to be made into fudge. Not because it's morally wrong, but because Wonka is a business man first and foremost.
@@tyrieceswift1935 That's the bit I find so hilarious. Then again, Augustus could totally be part chocolate with how much of the stuff he eats. Even at the end, when he's licking chocolate from his fingers and his mother tells him not to eat his fingers, he says "But I taste so good!" From his own mouth. Chocolate coated Augustus tastes good.
It reminded me of a sketch I absolutely love watching 😂 Just look up "Dylan Moran breakfast" and you'll find it, it's a short little clip about mornings & it's brilliant
I love how there are adults not accepting at all what is going on inside this factory like anybody in the audience would but it's acually true what Wonka tells them.
It isn't in the outside world but Wonka has this crazy factory that seems to go against basically everything, which is why it's such an awesome place. Shows the power of creativity and fantasy
THIS GUY GETS IT! GIVE THIS A PERSON AN AWARD! Seriously though, this why kids need to be tested on their reading, or in this case viewing, comprehension skills.
@@bunju8990Horseshit? Christopher Nolan came with Oppenheimer and Barbie is the first movie with an alone female director that gained a billion dollars. They're clearly succesful.
He is such a sunshine, a wonderful actor, handsome, knows how to transform, everyone says that they can’t understand what Johnny is, but I always recognize him by his look
The funniest thing about the video for me personally was when I watched the original movie, for some reason when Wonka imitated Verruca’s dad, I spent like 5 years thinking her dad had said the line. He did such a good impression of her dad that Johnny Depp gaslighted me unintentionally. And that’s why he’s one of my favorite actors
Oh my gabe I have known all the roles he’s played but I’m just now piecing all of them together and hilariously only now thinking of all of his roles are played by one actor 😹 I knew his name was to it but watchin this n reading all the comments keeps reminding me of all the roles he’s done 😹 gabe damn he is amazing like wow 👏👏
Can we just take time to appreciate not only how good Johnny Depp's menace acting, but also other actors, trilling and comedic movie, and the accuracy of the book is?
Johnny has to be one of the few actors who I could not identify straight away. He really makes you see the characters rather than an actor playing a character.
Lmao kinda. And surprisingly I was actually scared of this movie when I was little. Idk how, but I understand the similarities with squid game here. It might as well have been a horror movie, if everytime a kid was taken by the oompa loompas, it would've been replaced with the character dying
if i had never seen this film before like 20 times, not in a million years would i ever guess behind those glasses, that accent, and that hairdo was Johnny Depp
I mean the original is better in pretty much every way but I'll be the first to admit Johnny Depp was hilarious insanity in this. I honestly wish this was more an intentional parody movie than a straight adaptation it probably would've been received better.
@@pusheenqueen519 i heard roald dahl hated the original because wonka was not supposed to be as creepy. his wife was involved in the making of this version.
@@pusheenqueen519 I grew up watching the original, so I had reservations when it came to the remake. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. The music was more in line with what I like, the little gags in the dialog ("MUMBLER!! Seriously, I can't understand a word you're saying. ")
The guy literally created sentient life out of chocolate, then sold it worldwide and people still question his scientific knowledge every other sentence.
@@cheesygubbins5322 I sometimes wonder how he couldn't make the Indian prince a palace that wouldn't melt if he was able to make ice cream that didn't melt. Maybe the palace being made out of chocolate prevented him? idk I'm probably just thinking about it more than was intended ;-;
@@reedz7068 because it was the grandfather that told Charlie the story, I would say it was Willy Wonka’s earlier days, which probably means he hadn’t came up with the formula for ice cream that can’t melt. That’s just my idea though!
Doesn't understand how to communicate with anyone properly. He is completely deranged and only really cares about candy. All just as it should be, perfectly represents the book

@@JaniaSanders he's probably gonna have to adapt it to his own style... Trying to copy Depp's exact style in this is gonna be very difficult (and, to be clear, I really like both Depp and Chalamet as actors)
I can’t be the only one that audibly gasped back when I found out Willy was played by Johnny depp, props to his insane talent and whoever did the makeup/wardrobe/styling because I literally did not recognize him.
So you're telling me that man who does not give a 'fudge' (made of Augustus, get the joke? No?...Sorry, bad joke I know my humour's broken), is Captain Jack Sparrow who has sand nd dirt?
This movie scared me so much as a kid, even watching it later when I was older there was still something off about this. But this is probably my favorite version of Willy Wonka
Everyone hated this, but I absolutely loved the dark moody and strange feeling this movie had. Depp’s Willy Wonka was one of the most memorable characters from my childhood, which is among Jack Sparrow and Mad Hatter. And looking back at the story from my older self now, I also think it’s pretty great that Burton was essentially pointing out how we can become man-children if we don’t let go of sweet things from our childhood, or if we get crippled by a dependency on them. It’s an all too common issue nowadays.
@@hwasaitgirl7309 a lot of boomer reviewers bashed this movie because of the darker tone and being nothing alike the original 1970's original adaptation and was generally considered to be a soulless cashgrab Which is pretty ironic considering the facts that this movie not only stayed true to the source material its based upon, but also Roald Dahl's (the author of the original book) wife had creative input in the movie and stated Roald would've loved this movie especially considering how much he hated the 1970's version for being very off track from its source material
The Kids didn't die. They Squeezed Augustus Out and he became extremely thin They Drained that Gum eating kid out but she permanently became Blue They Pulled the Smartass kid and Practically made him paper thin The Spoiled kid and her dad fell in the trash canister Their lives maybe ruined to varying degrees but they are infact still Alive
That is entirely the parents fault tho, they shouldn't have spoiled their kids and made them such brats then maybe they could have avoided such fate🤷♀️
