Sadly she messes up the choreography by coming in too soon with one of the steps, but covers it very well.

Great job, choreographer Randy Skinner! l saw Randy Skinner perform "No,No,Nanette",many moons ago with Virginia Mayo and Gale Gordon,also an excellent production!

Why be stuck on 1971? We want the proper period. Twenties? Are there recordings from then? I used to rehearse myself singing at the piano from about sixteen. I used the vocal-scores I played Jimmy etc..

Saw this production at Encores. The cast did a great job as did the choreographer Randy Skinner. I know that this is really just a small reproduction of the original revival but I think they did a great job. Yes the Ralph Burns orchestrations and the twin pianos shined through.

Correct, I've always loved the section at 3.53, which was cut in the OBC recording, sadly. I would have loved to have heard this on the recording. Brilliant playing here as well. So crisp and clear. wonderful dancing by the chorus as well. I could watch..and listen..to this all day.

Sandy Duncan did a great job, but she can't touch Ruby Keeler - she owned this number!

Ed Harbur this was for encores which means about a week of rehearsal for just one half-week of performances. Also wondering - how old was ruby keeler when she did this and how old was sandy duncan here?

@@meredithchandler73 Duncan is about the same age here as when Keeler did it on broadway...62-ish...

Never saw Ruby on stage, but she was a crap tap dancer in films.

Duncan is a much better dancer than Keeler. Keeler didn't have those high kicks. Keeler brought the magic that comes from having been a goddess of the Silver Screen. Few could touch her for that but Duncan tops her in taps and talent.

Tap is fun no matter how simple or complex it is. (Except for the kicks with flexed feet . . . ya, I know it's a Charleston kick.)

I didn´t need to find out who was the choreographer, I knew right awart, this is Randy´s! the best of the best for a beautiful classic and distinguished tap dance number!! From Argentina an old student of Randy

I LOVE this number! But please could someone tell me context of it? Who is the Sandy Duncan character and why are the men singing I want to be happy with her? What's just happened before the number? She's clearly not Nanette...
@jasonc.parker4644
@jasonc.parker4644 6 лет назад
Dianaemanuel I think the context here is that they had Sandy Duncan, and wanted to give her a chance to lead a huge production number. In the show, Sandy's character, Sue, is the caretaker of Nanette, along with her husband, Jimmy. Nanette has asked Sue if she can go to Atlantic City with her friends, but Sue says no. Jimmy then gives Nanette $200 to go to Atlantic City, because he just wants everyone to be happy. So really the number is for Jimmy and Nanette.
@folliesfanatic
@folliesfanatic 6 лет назад
Ok, Nanette and her Uncle Jimmy just previously sang a duet, I Want to be Happy, because she was always being told no to everything she wanted. He cheered her up with this song, there were a few lines of dialogue and then they both exited the stage; What follows is this chorus song and dance. In the original revival in 1971, it was designed to give Ruby Keeler, a tapper from the Busby Berkeley films of the 1930s, her big number and it did!!!! Sandy Duncan in this production as was Ruby, Nanette's Aunt Sue.
