UPDATE - I did a few overheating tests again with AI AF/Eye AF/Active Stabilization/Lens Comp and I was averaging 45-75 mins on 4K24 10 bit 422. 4K60 was about 12-15 mins and 4K120 was around 10 mins.. While 4k24 and 4K120 did better still with the update, the 4k60 took a toll. Ambient Temp was 28-32 degrees celcius indoors with no AC. Which lenses do you wanna see me review with the Sony A6700?! Lut Pack Winner of my last video!! 楊文翔
Glad to hear you finally have unlocked your final form of your A6700. I can now update my camera in peace haha. I'm currently rocking the Sony 16-55mm for my camera, but I have been loving my Sigma 30mm F/1.4. Perhaps I may contemplate getting the 23mm or 56mm next.
It evolved into a tank lol! but ya super happy with it. I want that sigma 30mm as well.. it's so tiny!! would be great for travels. I feel ike 16-55 is the perfect all in one lens for it.
@@VictorLaforteza would you say this camera is better than it's fuji competitor the xt5?? Also, I'm a beginner getting into photography and thought about getting the fuji xt2 + xf 18-55mm lens to start with. Is that a good combo or should I look at things from the sony side?
@@reversicle212 I don't have experience with the XT5 but I'd say the only different would be the workflow and the autofocus. Sony's still unbeatable with it but XT5 should be as powerful as the a6700. I'd stay with the fuji if you already have lenses but again up to your preference!
@@VictorLaforteza Thanks for the reply man. I've looked for used sigma zoom lenses for sony but they're way overbudget and I believe older sony cameras like the a6400 or the a6300 suffer from firmware update issues. Will be going for the fuji xt2 now. Btw, your channel has been a huge inspiration to me because you're the reason I got into photography/videography, and I really aspire to take shots and scenes in the style that you do. Cheers!
Thanks for the tests and sharing the results after the update. I am super happy with mine and I'll update it ASAP. I plan to start creating content about it this week and for sure I'll those extra minutes for the talking heads. Really keen to see the low light cinematic video!
Nice! Good to hear. I'm shooting a destination wedding in September (free beach vacation kinda lol). And I'm planning on taking the a6700 when I want my high end gear to stay at the beach house locked up. But just to have a nice travel camera for personal stuff.
@@ChillStudyDateI kept it. I don't know about other people's experience. But after the update, I took it to Portugal. It was a nice 27°C there and never had an overheating warning..... however, the longest footage i took was only about 15-20 mins 4k 30 and 4k 60.. so it probably woul've overheated if it was longer but I shoot in segments so I dont need it that long. Longest I have tried 4k 30 was around 40 minutes after the update, then it overheated.
@@max97livecouk did you put the setting for temp high also put it in airplane mode as the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth might be heating up the processor. Also how is the 1080 on it have you tried 1080 240 fps?
Thanks for the update! Depending on what the A7C2 looks like I might also hop on board with this lil cam. Would love to see a review with anything from the sirui nightwalker set or the DZO Vespid Retro set. Shoot, maybe even with the Helios 44m if you're feeling artsy!
it'll have the same look as the fx30! what you see on my nightwalker set review would be the same look! I'm really wanting to test out the vespids. Hoping to get my hands on them to test out!!
I watched your VDO a week ago and also commented about firmware update that it might help since I never have overheating issue at all but I did updated firmware on the first day release. I am glad I watch this VDO. Really give me peace of mind. Looking forward to your korea and japan trips vdo. ps. I would love to see some Anamorphic lens from Sirui tested on this beast :)
@@VictorLaforteza hope its on a6700. Cant wait. I have been eyeing on these lens for a while. I am no professional vdographer but the footages from these lens are so cinematic and add a lot to the vdo.
Congrats on 40k man. I can't get near these times (18min in 4k24 XAVC-HS) with standard temp threshold! Shocking. Do you think HS creates more heat? Because of the internal compression work going on? Also, why don't Sony just ship it with the higher temp threshold and not give us the option? So odd.
Maybe it is the HS. Did you ever try it in just straight S so less compression = less heat maybe? I am on the verge of buying this camera but am worry about overheating. I shoot 4K 30p in regular S codec….
amazing! i was worried about overheating and was considering the fx30, but i went to sony store today and found out that a6700 with 1655g is already kind of heavy for me, the fx30 is 153g heavier, and if i use a grip it's 215g more, the fx30 is also kind of bulky and they say the fan can't be turned off, but now the overheating issue is fixed, i don't need the fx30 anymore, i should be happy with a6700
Thanks for sharing this Victor! I got my a6700 and was so disappointed with the overheating issue that i felt like selling it, gonna update it now and give it another shot!
the test is great. but id like to just suggest that it should have been moving people or a scene of a place with little movement or might be just a place with rgb led it will still register some movement, so that we can have a very realistic application of the recording instead of a plain black video. shooting black space wont need a lot of processing so taking less battery consumption. but all in all lets say we take out 5-10% of that numbers out from the test, and we still have a great test out of it. -planning to buy a6700 soon
Absolutely! I did about an hour Timelapse outdoors in the city and it did about 1 hour and 15 mins! Pretty good results for Korean summer! but you have to watch out some are reporting bad results as well. The results are like a roulette! Seems like everyone’s getting different results :(
I'm going to test today, was going to return it. There's nothing definitive online other than your video really that it gets better. I'm honestly still on the fence a bit. I can't afford overheating at weddings so the fx30 would be good but I also need it to be a photo camera@@VictorLaforteza
This really put the a6700 right neck and neck with the fx30 in terms of performance. Ergonomics and port wise, I think not so much, but for the use case. I think it's there, either way I'm still not really convinced to swap my fx30 to this camera. Thanks Victor! I learned to use Davinci because of how your video about nostalgic color grading the fx30 footage. I'm a premiere user way back 2018.
definitely both have their use cases and pros and cons would weigh in depending on what you need a camera for! both are great cameras! Glad to hear I was able to get you on Davinci! It's definitely miles ahead in terms of coloring!
@@VictorLaforteza Thank you Victor. I was really considering the a6700 but changed my mind since I rarely do photos now a days. And that dual card slot snd built in fan is unbeatable. Especially here in the philippines.
Surprisingly see my name over here😆 I also got my a6700 few weeks ago and updated last night. The recording result has nice improved and thanks for the testing✨ I'm using Sigma 18-35mm & 50-100mm on this camera body recently. It's very versatile for the shoot.
Congrats!! email me at victorlaforteza.yt@gmail.com for the LUT pack :) I've had the same setup with my a6300 before!! such good lenses!! those 1.8 zoom lenses.
That's right, 2 megapixels vs 8. Also 6.2k while may not sound that much more than 4k, that's 20 megapixels vs 8 on 4k. You can crop over 50% into your fotoage with no quality loss. However the more than doubling of resolution also means you need a much faster PC to play and edit.
Thank you so much for this update video. Makes me a lot more comfortable to make the move to get this camera very soon! Please if possible do a review with difference real world scenarios like - landscape, portrait, lowlight and wildlife content. Do suggest some lens too. I am looking at - 1. Sony 11mm (ultra wide) 2. Tamron 18-300 all in one (regular use + little wildlife) 3. Sigma 56mm (portrait) 4. Tamron 50-400 (optional as wildlife telephoto lens) What do you think of this setup ? please give your valuable feedback. I am someone who wants to do a little of landscape, cityscape + portraits and wildlife photography/videography.
Can speak about Sony 11 1.8. I held that lens for 3 months and ended up selling it. If you are like me, have an experience using smth like sigma 16 1.4, sony 11 will dissapoint you: - Cheap plastic and feel - Autofocus motors wigle and dangle adding to the cheap feel - 11 mm may not suit you because of distortions and Iphone ultra wide look you get - 1.8 aperture is not enough for shooting indoors like restaurants, or any place with ambient light - 1.8 with this wide focal length does not give almost any bokeh on distances over 1-1.5m, so it looks as shaky Iphone footage - Heavy barrel distortion in your raw photos - A little bit pricier than competition The only left plus is: + Size and weight. With Size feeling not that much small, especially with hood on. But weight is really weightless. I really value weight and size of a camera. That is why I am consciously on apsc. But Sony turned out to be too cheap and not fast enough and a little bit too wide. Bought Viltrox 13 1.4 and have no regrets. Fast, Wide enough, is almost perfect optically on raw photos, fells and looks like a tank with solid metal build and nothing tangling inside the lens
Oh, and also DEFINITELY sony 11 1.8 is not 1.8! More like a f2.0 or f2.2! It is definitely more than one stop darker than 1.4 lenses while it should be only 3/4 stop darker. Keep it in mind
i need advise: im filming a lot of event/ rave/ club situations where there‘s barely no light and a lot of strobes/ flickering lights. currently using the a6400 and it struggles a lot. do you think the a6700 would be enough of an upgrade or should I switch to the a7cii because fullframe wins in this specific case?
Lenses can make a big difference when it comes to overheating. Lens correction and autofocus increase processing, so manual (i.e. cine) lenses may yield better results. Did you test with the same lens?
I just tested it again with the same lens as last time and the results are very similar to what it is now at least at 4k24 S-I. Multiple reports (comments) on the first video as well saying it's lasting longer.
What was your ambient temperature in both tests? - even a 1-2c temperature difference will have a big impact on your test results. If you still experience overheating in a warmer room with no windows open, opening the battery door and side doors helps a lot!
it was hotter this time around 32-34 degrees ambient temperature and it got more humid at night!! The first test (video) It was hovering 28-31 degrees.
@@VictorLaforteza Amazing result! - I had something similar with my ZV-E1. So many people complaining it overheats on RU-vid, but I recorded 2 hours of 4k50 in direct sunlight, no issues at all (well, I overheated and got a sun burn, the camera was fine haha) and did a 4k30 stream over USB-C for 6.5 hours (!!) - no overheat and battery went from 100% to 83% in this time (basically, you would never need a dummy battery for streaming). So happy with these recent compact Sony bodies, I'm excited to see what the A7C II brings, that price though!
@@DigiDriftZone That's amazing!! I've always had doubts with the zv-e1 that's why I didn't pull the trigger but it seems that the A7Cii would be the perfect replacement for the A7IV. I'm ready but my wallet isn't hahaha! gotta save up more so I can also share some of my experience with it.
@@VictorLafortezahaha, I know the feeling! - I was very surprised about the ZV-E1, I've recorded few videos on my channel if you're interested about moving from APS-C to Full Frame, so far my Full Frame is smaller, lighter, cheaper and MUCH better than my previous APS-C (Fuji), how crazy is that?? - I think the gap is narrower with the excellent A6700 though, but I'm still so surprised full frame is smaller/lighter. I actually pre-ordered the A6700 and cancelled it last second to get the ZV-E1 heh - both are excellent options though.
so you don't have AC? Are sitting a room and it's 90 degrees? you look pretty cool in the video, I would expect some sweat. especially with lights and a room temp of 32 celsius / 90 degrees Fahrenheit. wow@@VictorLaforteza
Please review Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 with Sony A6700 because that is what I bought as well for my new Sony A6700. The lens is already here but Im still waiting eagerly for my camera to come! This will be my first camera and Im absolutely excited about it!
Thanks for this Victor! I'm wondering if this update will help those with their a6700 spontaneously becoming unresponsive. For some it has only happened when using the hot shoe with a flash or flash remote. Have you had any of these issues?
OH I definitely have so I'm wondering as well.. I haven't recreated it since I updated the firmware but It's happened twice during my trip in Korea and I have videos of it just suddenly being so unresponsive! Only happening in photo mode but after I hit the shutter, it just freezes. It seems like the camera went long exposure mode. It happened on Aperture priority mode. I'll try to see if I can recreate the issue but definitely something weird happens. This will probably be in my top 5 "issues" with the a6700 video at some point.
Basically no overheating on 1080p you'd be recording until your battery is dead. Even if you have an external source, it'll be long long recording times.
I've run the a6700 plugged in over USBC for 3.5 hours in a 72°F environment in 4k24 HS 50mb. Not sure I'd trust it outside for weddings or something. But indoor talking head it should be fine.
two very similar camera but have their pros and cons. If you're going to shoot primarily video, the fx30 makes more sense! but the a6700 is a really good hybrid. Just depends on your use case!
Is it worth it to use the 35mm 1,4GM lense with this camera? Thinking on getting that as my starter kit and wanted a great lens that holds value with time
@@VictorLaforteza got it. My doubt is going for this or the a7c, which is full frame. I mostly do pictures, family, portraits and the FF could benefit that simple workflow.
Before the update 4k 60 lasted about 30 min, after update not longer than 23 min. I'm curious how youtubers are getting always better results in testing? 😉
well there's my proof right there that it lasted an hour. You can watch my first video that it was crap out of the box and only lasted less than what you had until the firmware update lol
@@MikeyYuanY no it didn't work, but...I put the camera on airplane mode and was able to continuously record for 52 min. 4k60, XAVC HS 4K, 100M 4:2:2 10bit
@@VictorLaforteza do you think that makes a difference? Would you have other cards that are not Sony tough that you could test them against? I think there might be something to it
SD card write speed plays a huge factor in heating. What card did you use? V30? V90? I use a V90 card and no over heating issue even on stock firmware. Not planning to update the firmware if its not giving me problems.
Sony tough card v90. We’ve got multiple reports people having both overheating units and non-overheating units! Some gets fixed some don’t. It’s weird.
@@VictorLaforteza Since 93% of production is from Thailand, it could be a batch production issue. Nikon usually does a recall on their bad batch of production. Will sony do the same? hmmmmmmmm
@@Dylon1981 I’m convinced that it is a batch that’s messed up. It was the similar with the a7iv! Mine was a complete tank and my friend was overheating like crazy. Recall though? Nah they want the sales.
@@VictorLaforteza Wow thank you so much for the fast reply! Just purchased it and cant wait(and PLEASE make more of these a6700 guides they're the best thing ever!!)
How come you start the vid with Chinese ? Did you live here before ? Genuine curiosity Also I looked at the a6700, but I think the fx30 would suit my own needs better. Still the 6700 looks great, I started on a 6300 and I’d still buy one now if the chance came up
I live in Taiwan usually during the 2nd half of the year. Got friends and family here. Worked in China a bit before Covid as well. Since my partner's family mostly speak mandarin, I try to integrate it with my life as much as I can. I even did a short intro just in Chinese in one of my vids haha! 100% if your needs are video first, the fx30 makes soooo much sense but the a6700 is a really good hybrid.
@@VictorLaforteza oh nice! That’s actually almost level with where I live in the mainland, Wenzhou. My wife’s from here so been here 10 years now, still yet to get across to Taiwan , hopefully before the year is out. Yeah for hybrid shooters the a6700 makes perfect sense, honestly most Sony cameras within the last few years are ace
@@VictorLaforteza thank you Victor , let’s hope my memory doesn’t fail when I do client work , might have to spring for a big boy sony card or something 😬
My firmware update failed - started getting long flashes and it was over 20 minutes trying. If this happens to you - and you have left it for plenty of time - Pull the battery out first of all. Then re-download the firmware update and save onto an SD card (making sure to delete the previous download) Then put the SD card back in, and replace the battery. It should flash in 1 second pulses, then move on to 3 faster pulses at a time, then finally the camera will click and the screen should display that it is all done. SONY support are USELESS. I hope this helps anyone having similar issues.
If these tests are correct there’s more value in the A6700 rn. FX30 lacks evf, mechanical shutter and continuous shooting mode and will make you angry because Sony cripple hammer. Why is the more expensive camera lacking functions?
It's their business strategy I think.. but at least you have the cameras for every need. Just sucks features don't carry over unless its a firmware update that takes forever
What did u do? Put in the Freezer & Leave It There! Good Idea! Good Solution! 😎😎 Check out the guy in South Florida. He's also not too psyched about the Sony a6700. Shut down for him in hot humid Florida. Sony forgets one thing, People TRAVEL now days all over the world. They expect their cameras to WORK ALL THE TIME. Okay Sony, put in active cooling in ALL YOUR CAMS .. Lumix has seen the light). lUMIX S5IIx-A TRUE HYBRID!
Photography RU-vid is dead, and it's killed by people only reviewing gear. A new camera comes out, woo, send it to a RU-vidr for free advertising. These reviews are bias at best because wed all know they won't send you anything else if you gave a bad review.
It’s not dead. There’s a lot of channels who do actual work and showcase it. In terms of not giving a bad review, Gerald Undone and Phillip Bloom both complained about Sony cameras multiple times and they still get new cameras. Can you name reviewers that specifically just shill about cameras? In my case, I buy these cameras and enjoy reviewing them for my use case. I wish I had free access to cameras. If you wanna see my first a6700 video, I showed my disappointment with this camera. I wanted to make it work before I returned it and luckily it did.
