Fun Fact: the plane you flew on, the Dash 8-400 or Q400, is built in Downsview in Toronto. However, the production line will be moved to Calgary in a few years
You should file a complaint or worst case consult with an attorney. What YOW claimed is absolutely ridiculous and doesn't make sense at all. It is public space, just like other airports including Toronto and Vancouver.
The Airport LAND is owned by Transport Canada, the terminal buildings are owned and operated by the Airport Authority operating the airport itself. So while the "land" might be public, the terminal can be considered private.
Wow...I have so much admiration for your sustained, great attitude. It makes watching your videos more of a "must-see" for me. Anyone who undergoes what you did and continues to be gracious to the very people who are giving you a hard time, deserves our loyalty to the channel as well as our respect. Btw...you have a great way of energizing your videos to make them very interesting. Thanks.
Great new video!! Thank you for making it without curse words. I have shared it with many of my students and they love your videos keep up the good work! 🎉🎉🎉
I never heard of this happening to anyone before. Almost all airports are publicly owned which you can film. I did it back in USA airports and I had no issues.
I’ve seen review videos made all around the world. This “not allowed to film” business is usually BS, and coming from people who don’t know what the laws actually are.
It happened to me too recently. I took a flight from Hamilton to Halifax with Swoop and I was doing a vlog and an airport employee told me to turn off the camera. He was pretty pissed. Other airport employee saw me and said nothing. Lol. I think it depend on the person. I could be wrong.
It is ALWAYS the person. Because these stories always end the same. Person is told to turn off their camera. Incident goes viral enough that the traditional media picks up his story. Owners/CEO/ higher-ups of said place where the said camera is told to be turn off see the story and the release a statement saying, "we have no such policy...and we are now retraining our employees, so that they know our policy"
Weirdly the Plaza Premium Lounge in the US terminal at YYZ has great bathrooms despite being tiny in size. It is way more cramped-feeling, but has the same food and drink options and impeccable bathrooms.
Videotaping in airports specially in the secure areas or in customs or security points is actually a breach of security. The videos could be used by other random individuals for terrorist purposes. Also if one person states clearly that he does not give his consent or authorisation then the recording is illegal.
If it's the same as other anglophone countries, it's only THEIR regulations that prohibits filming, the actual law allows you to film in ANY public place. It's best if someone who is NOT flying goes back and asserts their rights to film there. That's why they didn't arrest you. But someone must stop them abusing people's rights to film
You should review Avianca airlines because I had lots of problems with my flights but I don't know if it always like that. So can you please review there airlines. 😄
I flew from Orlando to Ottawa a while back - I’m Canadian and funnily enough it was my first time ever being in my country’s capital city 😂. Ottawa is _not_ a big city - it’s where the government operates, and apart from the Parliament building and some natural scenery, there’s not much else to see - and it really shows in the size of YOW airport, as u quite accurately mentioned at 7:58. Despite that aspect, they do have service with major cities on the US east coast, as well as major cities throughout Canada.
I am a little late to the party here but ever since Garda World got the contracts for around 40ish airports across the country to do security, they haven't exactly been the greatest people to deal with at a number of airports. Probably about 90% of my interactions with them have been unfortunately sour for no good reason. The Commissionaires were way more honorable and nicer people to deal with before they lost the contracts to Garda in mid-2020.
According to Canadas law, just like the US in this regard, it is perfectly legal constitutionally to record in the airport as the major ones are indeed public property. That includes Ottawa.
I think the reason behind them not wanting u to film might have something to do with the fact that Ottawa is the capital city, and since capital cities are places where the government does their work and official matters take place, they might have some genuine privacy concerns. But ya obviously you aren’t any kind of threat lol, ig they were just trying to be careful.
You know tentacle the security guard is in the wrong because the airport is a public place and you don’t need consent to film in a public place and also they can’t do anything to stop you from filming in a public place so basically he just giving you crap
And aslo that security guard does not seem to know the law because half of the stuff he said was incorrect honestly they can’t do anything because if they try you can take it to court or just have that employee fired because you do have the right
I live in Ottawa and it's a government town so always rules everywhere but we like the airport because you never have to wait very long to take off or land.
