Thank you, to both Jen and Clare, for sharing this story. Being a thyroid patient, I absolutely can empathize with Jen. After almost 15-years of being treated as hypothyroid, it was just recently discovered that I was actual born with an abnormally small thyroid gland. At fifty, I've spent almost two thirds of my life suffering from it, and never knew. Even the treatments in the past 15-years have been incorrect. Keep on fighting, Jen. And, best of luck to you! XO

I was born without a thyorid. It has been a journey. Since I was young I have worked out and eaten heathly. Now I'm 3 months postpartum and the hormones are out of whack..During pregnancy i had to get a blood work every month to check the tsh levels. My son is in good health. Now I am trying to get the TSH levels perfect.

Paola Valtierra that’s great to know as the next step for me is babies. I was worried about what I might need to do but if it’s a regular checkup I can deal. Did you have trouble conceiving if I may ask? (Hello fellow non thyroid!)

+Hazel Watts No, we were married on December 3l 20l6 and found out I was about 5 weeks pregnant, in April, but in May I had a miscarriage. 😢. I felt horrible, I thought it was the thyorid, but My Dr. assured me it was not. Then December 3 20l7 I found out i was pregant. I was scared, because it was a threaten miscarriage in the frist trimester, there was a lot of bleeding. Then things got better. But I did get gallbladder stones, during pregnancy, because I was just lucky . lol. No I was my race, pregancy, and thyroid all make my more prone to get them. I had a typical symptoms, which means I did not get gallbladder attacks when I ate something fatty, it was random. It may sound scary, but my little guy is worth it.

Did you happen to have problems with toxemia/eclampsia when pregnant? I did. They did not want me to have another Baby because I died and they had to bring me back. I thought I may only have a small window to have another Baby so I risk it and had a girl. She was breach but fine. I still had some toxemia but was way less severe. Actually my Kids were surprise miracles because the Doctors told my parents I would not be able to have kids. We were in the middle of buying our 1st home when the kids were 7 and 5 and I did not realize I had missed a couple periods. On moving day I had a miscarriage. I could never get pregnant again after that so I am glad I had my Daughter so soon after my Son. There was a small window of opportunity.

I was born without one as well. I'm 24 years old now, and I still suffer from every single symptom it comes with, despite the fact I take my meds every single day. Sometimes I hate my body for it, because it makes it so difficult to live my life like every 24 year old would do. I just don't have any energy left.

I was born without a thyroid but they thought I just had hypothyroidism until I was 17 so my hormones were way off. I was born in 98 so the medication was available but until they realized I didn't have one I went through life almost in a trance; I couldn't think straight and was tired all the time. I'm glad to know there's almost a community for it as I live on an island and I know no one else who was born without.

Hello. I can completely understand going such a long time on the wrong medication. The doctors thought I was hyperthyroidism but when I was 18 found out I was born with out one. I'm 29 now. Still have a few health issues but my life isn't a haze anymore. Stay strong. 😘

I was born without a thyroid in 1957. It took them 2 years to figure it out. Actually a very young Doctor did. Maybe because he had the latest medical knowledge or maybe he was meant to be the one. Like she said..it is very rare. I am 64 and they told my fojks I would not live past 35. They said I could not have Kids. I did but had difficulty with toxemia. As long as you keep it regulated and check it 2 or 3 times ayear you can live a pretty normal life. I did have major learning disabilities as a toddler and young child but my Mom worked with me. Used a different teaching method. If anyone was born without a thyroid or even had one removed...NEVER EVER GO ON SYTHROID. It does not contain all the hormones you need. You need a full thyroid medicine like Armour. Synthroid can cause major problems including Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. It is only for People who have sluggish thyroids.

Shelleyfg87 I was born in June 86 without a thyroid gland (it happened in the March I think) and my mum swore the same although since then doctors have been adamant there is no connection. Can’t argue with mums intuition though!

I doubt it was Chernoble. It is exstremly rare, More People would have had this happen. They found out 2 years after I was born in 1957 because I was not growing like other Babies/toddlers. I had a couple seizures and my teeth were not coming in. I did walk thou. The Doctors could not believe that.

@salemsaglime7342
@salemsaglime7342 2 года назад
@@Shelleyfg87 why would you say that? You have NO IDEA what I have been thru. Some of your Doctor's found out early like 6 months or less. They did not find out until I was 2 years old. I had seizures and actually died once that they were able to bring me back. The experimenting with doses of how much meds to give me at 2 years old was very hard. We are talking late 50s. Why would you say you were glad I was not ur Doctor? That is very cruel. It is a miracle I am still alive. Wait til you hit almost 65. There have been a few problems with my health as I have aged. Since I am NOT your Doctor I will not tell you about them or warn you. I have met a couple people my age born without thyroids that had the same health problems show up. Even now they have no idea what causes this rare problem. Blaming Chernobyl without proof is foolish. Our Bodies are not robots. People are born sometimes without organs or limbs. Sometimes shit happens. I am not blaming anyone. I still had a full life. Sometimes thou I felt like a science experiment over the years but thanks to that young Doctor I am alive at 64 1/2. Even they you were rude I still hope you live a long life.

Don't take Synthroid if u were born without a thyroid. It is only for people who have thyroids that r sluggish. It does NOT contain all the necessary hormones for someone without a thyroid. It can cause problems to your body. Take full thyroid meds like Armour. Please tell me u r not taking Synthroid and not have a thyroid? A Pharmacist caught this on me. A Doctor had changed me to Synthroid. She caught it but I had been on Synthroid about 4 years before she saw this prescription. My regular Pharmacy was out of it. We were talking and I told her I was born without a thyroid. She was upset and said I should not be taking Synthroid. The lack of some of the hormones can cause damage to your body including HBP and Diabetes2 among other problems. Use Armour. It has all the hormones.

I was born without one as well, I've been following the research being done towards the possibility of having one transplanted and made from your own cells, so less chances of rejection with the healing process, think the Russians are onto it with success with a rat transplant so far. Hoping for a breakthrough soon, would be good to get off these meds and start knowing what it feels like to be "normal".. a lot of people look at me and say that I'm fine, but nobody really knows what it's like having a disruption to your endocrine system, it's debilitating at worst.

My dosages kept on having to be lowered and upped. I got put back on Synthroid last year and my levels have been normal since.

Yeah I am always awkward but I *was* interested. Again, I'm not supposed to "interview" guests, it's the *Storytime* podcast. I'm supposed to introduce them and let them tell their stories, which I've asked them to pre-prepare. In cases like this, I have no knowledge of the topic and therefore nothing to contribute so I rely on the guest to fill 20-40 minutes, as discussed with them beforehand. I think Jen did a great job. 👍
