You do realize you're referring to a youtuber who has the ability to write all his purchases off, makes money off the video where he does this and then on top has sponsors paying him to do this. There is no going broke in this situation. There is no budget. @@Countrybluez
Weird anti-climax at the end. I was expecting everyone to proudly reveal their bottles and receipts, seemed like they weren’t interested in participating lol
I live right next to it, and it’s the most disappointing store to go to. Readily available wines and bourbons go for 100%+ MSRP. The first time I went, they were asking $38 for a bottle of regular Makers.
I dont always watch all your hunting vlogs, but i love this as a review channel, and i think your personality, production quality, and consistency are of if not the best on this platform. Nobody is doing what you do at the quality you do it. You keep people who dont even drink enthralled with your review content, and especially your short form, just off your delivery. Keep on killing it brother. This channel deserves a million.
I negotiate at small stores I frequent and I have a great relationship with the owners. Negotiating on the price does not make you a bad customer, it’s part of the game. If a store doesn’t want negotiations they are always free to sell at MSRP
I agree, hundred percent with your choice of John J Bowman single barrel, I would’ve picked that one as well. Very fun video to watch. Keep up the good work.
$139 for the Redwood CS is double msrp. Picked one up for $69.99 the other day and have two of the three. You got the Bowman at msrp. Come visit the distillery in VA some time.
@ 15:19 pointed at Plantation Vintage rums. They come in different series with under the sea and flying with birds examples based on year release. Vintage collection is true small batch, aged for a long time, great packaging, great for guest series. Plantation renamed in 2024 to Planteray for negative connotation. Collectable and Tradeable. MSRP was $75-85 varying bottles.
My dad's always been a connisouer of spirits in general. At 35yo I have never been a big drinker. But he let me try some Bakers 7 and I enjoyed it enough to go buy a couple of things for myself. I'm hooked. Love the channel, and the content is extremely helpful for a newbie.
Raley's is a great store. Her in Northern Ca. I got an EH Taylor Single Barrel for $85. Last week, I picked up a Weller 12 for $89 at a store called Nugget. I will say, that both of these bottles were not on the shelf. Having a good relationship with the employee who manages the liquor helps in every case. I do regular grocery shopping and am always friendly. From time to time I enquire about such items. I have been fortunate that I walk in the store when they happen to have good stuff in the back for valued customers.
I bourbon hunted Reno this past month. You could find anything you’d want, but the mark up was steep. Total Wine was solid. My favorite place was Craft Wine and Beer. Incredible place where you can find some great under the radar gems. They also put the allocated stuff on the shelf at msrp, so if you happen to be there at the right time you’ll get something truly special.
I just found your channel, best retail deals are always going to be Raleys on mount rose highway and in Spanish springs. I think even right now they still have last years at boss hog at retail, among many others. Pyramid is right next door basically, their selection is fantastic. Their pricing is basically just what they found on google. Also whiskey lounge is a must see too for a solid pour and huge selection. Russel is Awesome.
As soon as you said 139 for a Redwood Empire cask strength was a decent price, I was yelling at the screen DONT DO IT. They're amazing I agree but they're 63 at Woodmans in Wisconsin right now.
So....we had to pause this video to go to Lee's Liquor in beautiful West Wendover, NV just so I could get the ingredients for that whiskey sour. It's DELICIOUS.
Grocery stores are great. Especially when they are going through product changes. They’ll just put them right to 50% off around here. Every time I go to the store, I’ll do a drive by looking for new clearance tags.
Yes it is allocated in certain states...fyi..in Ohio...Thats the reason why I love Ohio... msrp baby... they can't jack the prices up like most states...
About those movie poster looking bourbons, the extended cut (barrel proof) is actually really good - I had some at a bottle share recently and it surprised me for an unknown brand being helmed by someone who did a lot of work in Hollywood.
Leave the Lagavulin & buy the Bowmore 26. Both from Islay, but the Bowmore 26 is a very rare expression - not too heavily peated but lots of sea salt & iodine
“It’s in their best interest to ask the most price they think they can get, it’s in our best interest to try to get it for a better price.” Plain and simple truth, very wise words, Brewzle
Fun show, really enjoy the content! I’m in California and the Redwood Empire cask strengths here are 99.00 bucks. My store owner friend sold me all three for 52.00 bucks each:)
Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Strength Rye is readily available around the low 60’s in grocery stores even. That being said we still see them in the museums in different states from time to time for 200+ 🤯 Pretty good indicators they don’t have a pulse of current market prices.
Hey there! I don’t know what the best way to contact you is but I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and I have found them really helpful for an insight into the Bourbon world in America! I run a bar in Bristol, UK. At the moment we stock Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101, Eagle Rare 10 Year, Balcones Texas Malt, Sazerac Rye, Rittenhouse Rye & Jack Daniel’s. I want to expand this and make it more interesting, with this list in mind, what would your no.1 choice be to add to it that would be unique and interesting, I’ll stock it and give it a go! Again, love the videos! Keep doing your thing! Hope this gets to you, Taylor
To get the best deal I feel like you have to hit places that don’t know what the secondary market looks like. A buddy of mine lives near an Indian owned gas station/liquor store and regularly gets $50 bottles of Blantons and Caribou Crossing
The Raley’s featured in this video is at the 2389 Wingfield Hills, Spanish Springs location, not Sparks. As for 4:00 PM today, the OFC was still there-in case you were wondering. You can get lucky anywhere, but in my opinion, the only other Raley’s worth visiting in the area would be Incline Village.
They were some sad sack viewers that turned up though... no one was interested at the end, it was like trying to get blood out of a stone for them to participate. Half of them looked a bit touched......
Whispering Vine is one of the only places in Reno where you can find some of these special bottles. Paying a bit more for them is fine if you are drinking for the flavor.
I'm curious. As many of these I have watched.. I'm wondering why yall don't just run over to a local U Haul and grab a 6 or a 12 bottle shipper. I used to trade beer quite a bit and it helps a ton.
Hope the glass shelves with all the bottles at the Pyramid Liquor store are rated for that much weight. Seems very risky to have all that sitting on glass displays that are probably meant for jewelry. Great video as usual!
Excellent video as always! I’m blown away by the amount of Springbank and Kilkerran on the shelves there. I’m lucky to score a bottle of Springbank a year up here in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I watch all the videos but don’t really drink. But the watching has got me wanting to try some of these bourbons I see TJ try all the time. And I love the fact that it’s a social sport. So now I know quite a bit about bourbon but own zero bottles. So that has to change. I look forward to buying my first bottle of Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace. And I do know from watching the video the Spring Bank you mentioned you should have grabbed on a side quest. Those were priced way lower than I’ve seen in the past. Seen them at 300 per bottle and anything around 100 like you seen 150. Should definitely grab.
I haven't tried any of the FRANK AUGUST but you have to look at the tag around the neck it will say small batch or what type of finish it has , some are mizunara or px brandy that I've seen so far
You should come bourbon hunt in San Diego. I don’t know much so i couldn’t show you around but I’m sure there’s someone who could and I’d love to see you visit the local stores here and I’m sure I’d learn something
I would love to participate in a bourbon hunt contest like this one. I missed your last visit to mandeville, Louisiana. Maybe next time. Maybe a New Orleans hunt. You would be surprised at what you see in some of those old stores.
you should taste other single grain whskeys from scotland and Ireland they do not contain any malted barley. and are colum distilled so you don't taste that malty taste. you will find several different bottles. thanks for the great videos, the best Bourbon channel on youtube. greetings from Finland.
Insane to see so many. But 399 dollars for the SB 18? I got one here in Sweden 2 months ago for 1589 Sek that is 154 dollar. But you only get one chance and max one bottle so 399 might be ok price.
@@GöstaHöstasson I'd say $300 is prob a fair price in the US. Issue is springbank only has 1 US distributor and "word" is they make it very difficult to get. I've never seen any Springbank on a shelf .
@@GöstaHöstasson Id say a Fair Price in the US is $300. You can purchase it online for around $400. Problem is SpringBank only has 1 US distributor and the "word" is they make it very hard to get and increase the prices. I think Kilkeran also uses the same US distributor.
Not just that Springbank but that Kilkerran for 99$ is a steal man. I want some of that Cambeltown love where I live. I think I’ve seen a Kilkerran once and it was 160$
Video is another reminder International markets are weird. Buffalo Trace products are everywhere in the UK. Springbank meanwhile is super hard to find at MSRP. And it's just sitting on the shelf here, albeit marked up.
Great content. My favorite stores in Reno is the Raley's on the south side of town and Pyramid up north. a good amount of barrel selects there. Not impressed with OFC other than fantastic packaging. I've had a better 15 year old wheated bourbon that was fantastic that still makes me drool to this day. That was Commander's Select 4 from Horse Soldier. I see pyramid had a series 3 right next to the OFC at the 20:04 mark.
Man its crazy for me to see that Elmer T. Lee be in the locked case nowadays! I have drank at least a case of that over the years...makes me wish I kept every bottle I ever bought...but naaaahhhhhh....good going down 🙂
Now I'm a scotch guy and a Rare Breed fan but them ryes so many amazing looking bottles with green and white. I pray Rare Breed Rye come to Sweden one day would love to try it. We had Pikesville Rye here a year ago it's amazing but over 100 dollars and I don't know if it will be back.
Pyramid Fine Wine is overpriced and disorganized. A true tough hunt for something decently priced but they have a really good selection (For obvious reasons) if you are willing to pay for it!
coming outa southern california; these prices are INSANE! im suddenly grateful for what my local providers charge me... thats enough to drive a man to sobriety
