Brother this is my favorite burbon channel on the interwebs. I say with Respect: please exercise and work on your weight so you can be in less pain. I mean this from the bottom of my heart. If you do ever read this. Stay healthy man you have a lot going on. Seriously love your team and your channel. Exercise eat clean so you can continue with this type of content. With all do respect. If this ever gets read.
He and his team are awesome. See him change will be motivation to myself, and i hope to those who watch him. I hope he keeps up the great work. I'm sure if he works this hard on his channel he will work just as hard on himself for his family, and us lovers of whiskey. I'm not sure if this is jill his wife but tou guys make a great team.
Love seeing you guys share the bottles, especially at the end with the restaurant owner. You can tell how much he appreciates it, and that’s what it’s all about. Sharing and making memories
Grocery store near me sells Weller 12 year for $45. You have to go to the customer service desk and ask for it and it's not always around but everything they sell is at state minimum and they can obtain about anything you want. Sometimes they can be a gold mine.
Rod & Hammer is my local distillery. Can confirm it's MGP juice. They just barely put in a new still so they can get their production up. Their Cask Strength is more than worth the buy. Their standard offerings, not so much.
Hi TJ, It's a scotch but since you said you would be keeping an eye out for them, you missed a Springbank Local Barley 11 years at 7:24. I doubt the price was fair though... who knows!
Your wife is 100% like mine. I always think way hard on buying it and she is always giving me the "When will you ever see this bottle again speech". I love her and I won the wife lottery lol. That Widow Jane Decadence was a miss. That stuff is so freaking good!
Keep making your videos Sir, hell with the haters it means you're doing something right. I've never drank Bourbon in my life and have been binge watching all of your videos.
Same here i just enjoy watching him haggle and seeing his knowledge in all the different bourbon flavors i end up on his lives when he tires them out and it’s just entertaining
@@justinlindsey9178 I've learned so much about double barrel, store picks and barrel picks, malts etc. One thing I've wondered do you usually put ice in your bourbon (LOL) and do you chill it.
Please come do a hunt in southern CA. Where you are is not really CA, that’s the sparse populated area, LA (Los Angeles) is the place to be. Just LA alone has 10x the population of where you are now. That’s a fun hunt, its supply and demand and the thrill of the hunt. Right?
If you ever run across a red breast PX at $150 or less, buy it. It’s Irish whiskey, but it’s absolutely fantastic! I enjoy good Irish whiskeys and that is probably the best one I’ve had. So much so that I bet anyone who doesn’t like Irish whiskeys will also enjoy it. Red breast also has a bourbon barrel aged Irish whiskey…I have a bottle, but haven’t cracked it yet. PX…it’s the real deal…
Tale of Winter is a 2022 limited edition finished in Marsala casks. Marsala is a Sicilian fortified wine that was originally made to compete with Port when British sailors would come to Sicily as the British at the time loved fortified wines. It never took off and ended up becoming cheep cooking wine.
That was also pre label change John J...lots of rumors about what juice was actually in the bottle and whether it's changed but I'd buy several of those being the old label.
San Jose is the land of easy whiskey since the scene is heavily moving into Tequila. All across CA the availability of bourbon/rye is extremely available compared to the rest of the US. I guess the Fireball/Wheatley Vodka sales are still strong so you still get crazy allocations all across the state.
Any of the Mitchell & Son Spot irish whiskeys are solid yellow green or red, they’re usually Allocated at our Governments (BC, Canada) premium spirits release but not necessarily hard to find…but all them I so far have tried are very enjoyable.
Living in BC, which is a government controlled system with a secondary private liquor store system, it is wild to see what we have litterally everywhere (Buffalo, Little Book 4, 5, 6, 7 ---- etc)
In my neck of the woods. Sorry to have missed you all. I think the Larceny C923 is better than the ECBP C923. Oh and that Jim Beam Single Barrel is delicious you should have picked it up. Keep up the great content!
Brewzle, with as often as you bourbon hunt while flying, you may want to consider a piece of wine luggage. I check mine everywhere I go, and use Vin De Gaurd 8 bottle luggage. It keeps the weight under the checked bag limit, and I’ve checked it over 50 times with zero issues. Just an idea my friend! Keep this content going, love it
That Lost Republic is actually really nice. I was a bar manager up until a couple years ago and I had a rep come in and sample that for me. I've been looking for a bottle of it for myself for a while, but it's only special order for bars and restaurants in my area.
Very great to see you visit San Jose, I’m sorry it didn’t turn out better. I am from the San Jose area and most liquor stores are tight with pricing unfortunately. Welcome to California…. Where anything is expensive
Oh Yeah! You definitely linked up with the Best Bourbon Hunter on the West Coast. Looking at his hat he also has a great taste for BBQ Sauces and Seasonings😁
It's pretty funny when people increase price above MSRP on the bourbon county stouts. In my area anything from 2022 or older is HEAVILY discounted because the retailers want them off shelf. One of my local gas stations is already marking the 2023 releases down 30-50% just to move them. I walked into one of their locations and the clerk said "take all of them and I'll give you a great price." They were already $6.50 per 2023 barrel aged stout but they had 35 of them on shelf. Probably could have walked out with them all at $5 a piece just so they could clear their shelf space. Most chains know that the bottles are designed to "age" in the glass but they simply don't care. If the item is not moving quickly they will price it to move. Per year they make far less off the Goose Island Stouts than they do off PBR/Coors/Bud Light and they want more shelf space for those high movement items. The smaller specialty stores just want to make margin on their unique products since they don't need as much footage dedicated to their standard and high moving products. Of course, you won't find 2017 bottles in most chains - they would have thrown them into the dumpster by 2020/2021.
If you can find a Balvenie 21yr aged PortWood for $230, or under, it is worth it, if you are interested in a Scotch that isn't overly peaty and has some lovely caramel and grape notes. It is my favorite scotch ever made.
Well, San Jose. I use to reside there years ago, in fact I was out there this Feb 1 to Feb 5....Anyway, that is what made it so interesting living there was the great quest for Whiskey, Bourbon, and Rye. My best encounters outside of Bevmo, was the numerous Liquor Stores...I resided on the West Side....but when you looked there was variety and slection...sometimes the price was to gouged.
Tj I will always respect and appreciate the effort you do and the knowledge you give, you are the reason I switch from tequila to bourbon, lol but that hater tho he funny ignore all the commotion. And good drinking here from Houston,TX sir, cheers 🍻!!
I have a local store that marks up bottles to full secondary+. If a tater from Alabama comes in, Stagg is 349. If a local hoarder who already has 14 bottles of every batch made comes in, it's 349. If a local comes in regularly, purchases shelfers, and talks to the owner like a human, Stagg is 100. Lol! I fully support this method.
Ever since I started watching you, I started paying more attention to bourbon, and I went to a store that was charging 800ish for stagg and 200 for antique 107😮😮😮
Cool that you stopped by my city, San Jose. We're not really known for our whiskey, but always have stock of Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare! Next time you're out here try some local distilleries like 10th Street Distillery.
You pointed to the scotch on the top shelf in one of these places and all I see is Scotland. Tax went up years ago and I think what craft distilleries are doing in the US with malted and copper pot stilled whiskies is too compelling comparatively (by price, especially). The other thing is that in Scotland AB Inbev and Diageo own them all except a very few. Those that like Islay scotches should drink Kilchoman - the only craft distillery left in Islay. In the US what comes to mind for me is Defiant (out of North Carolina). If you don't typically like scotch, Defiant is easier on the palette, like a lowland scotch. Balcones (from Tx) is one of my favorites - very very very unique. And there are a couple from ASW in Atlanta that due to value/price, I can't pass up. I basically try to like everything from ASW, but I"m biased, being an Atlantan. Would be curious your opinion on the "Fiddler" line (bourbon wise). You have probably covered it and I just haven't seen it yet. The pecan barrel one to me is pretty good.
Hey gentlemen… can you two make a video on the small stuff? How to drink bourbon like a boss or just a newbie. What glasses to use Glencarin or a solo cup. How much do you pour? How much to drink in one night/ one sitting. Do you stick with one glass of one kind or taste multiple till you can’t feel your face haha! What is your top daily drinker? How does Brewzle do it? Thanks men. San Angelo Texas here.
Great video, TJ! At some point I highly recommend you try Driftless Glen. I went to a distillery tour in Wisconsin and it was amazing. Great folks over there.
Your not wrong about finding jack Daniels But I’m in Pennsylvania and the state owns all liquor stores. I go to jersey to hunt. And I find a lot more in jersey
If you like scotch, Glenmorangie makes quality whisky, that doesn't break the bank. Most scotch has exploded in price the past couple of years, atleast here in Europe. So i've been dipping my toes in to bourbon. For some reason the cheap ones are marked up quite a bit. Wild T 101 is 30usd while a Eagle rare is 40, then again a Knob Creek 9 is like 60 usd.
Awesome Video! Was one of the better videos in a while! Love to see the camaraderie of the group throughout the video and the special bottle pours at the end!
It's so weird how the west coast has all these Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare bottles filling up their shelves. in another video it was clear a lot of stores out there had Springbanks all over the place. All of those bottles are hard to find throughout the mid-west.
Indian and Asian store owners mark their stuff up big time. I used to run a liquor store in San Jose. Been in Beer for over 10 years. The whole if a beer is aged means it is more is not a thing anymore. It was 10 years ago but when bcbs sits now a days it means because it’s heavy passed on. Bcbs 10 years ago never sat on shelves. I used to sell bcbs aged beers at the same price as current aged ones. Used to sell on off bourbon at 20% above retail mark up. I understand the art of having expensive bottles on the shelf and making a heft chunk of money off them but a shop is there to sell product not sit on it.
You’re definitely right that Jack Daniels stuff is extremely available. That said, the SiBBP Rye is oddly scarce in some regions. Including central Tennessee. I live an hour from Lynchburg and I’ve found it twice in a year. Not really your fault that it tastes so good that everyone wants it though lol. Keep making the content. Always entertaining!
I think when you tried to get into scotch and see if there was one you like, it was a good variety, But I probably wouldve started you off with some different American Single Malts. They share more similarities with bourbon as typically they are aged in new american oak which results in bigger bolder flavors, rather than delicate complex ones. They tend to be a bit young, but its a fast growing catagory and most that Ive had are delicious
I’m from San Luis Obispo where Rod and hammer is based out of, and the sample I had from them was delicious. It was my aunt and uncles bottle, don’t remember the exact bottle it was but it was delicious
Yea I picked up the high west cabernet, and man am I happy with the decision. The nose is immaculate and the pallet holds up too it very well, but I wouldn’t quite call it immaculate
Rod & Hammer's....San Luis Obispo California distillery. I bought a bottle of the cask bourbon last year, but yeah maybe a bit young and I am a bourbon rookie.
I have been binging these hunting videos! I know you have hit Orlando before but if you ever make your way to Tampa or St.Pete in Florida would love to show you to a few spots!
Love the fact you guys made it to Reno. One place I would recommend if you find yourself back in Reno is a bar and bottle shop called Death & Taxes. They certainly charge full and over secondary, however they have some really awesome bottles for sale. Otherwise, they have probably the best drink selection I know of in Reno. So the worst that can happen is you have a nice drink while you are there. I grabbed myself a Weller Full Proof barrel select recently from them and they have many other BTACs, Willets, and others to choose from. Lastly, if you got the pocket change you can have a sip of some 199x O.F.C. they have on hand.
Funnily enough last night I was just talking to a friend who works for a friend of Rod & Hammer and one of their Christmas gifts was a barrel pick from Rod & Hammer so its pretty cool seeing you pick one up
@Brewzle i was wondering, one of my favorite drinks is 4 roses select and bullet rye. I dont have a bunch of money my budget for a single bottle is 40-50 on high end and i wanted to know if you could suggest a few bourbon in that range
Don't want to sound like a "fanboy" (cuz I'm more like a "fanoldman) but this was a great video. As my brother would say, "everybody with a garage is making bourbon" these days. I only wish I had to the budget to try some of these picks. If in California, you have to try Dorothy Arzner Rye whiskey which I believe is distilled in California by Francis Coppola. Excellent! Cheers!
