Great video! This was the first EBOC that I missed (due to a vacation in Japan). I agree that the Cal Berkeley students put on a first rate small convention. Hope to see you next year at PCOC in Sacramento.

My son is a huge origami fan, he makes a lot of origami from Jason Merril and Joe Nakashima I think are their names. He's really good but he's only 9 years old. I wonder if these conventions would be appropriate for someone as young as him to come out to?

Hi Lizzy - absolutely. There are kids younger than him that have skills and personality that will humble the most seasoned folder. My first convention was last year's East Bay convention and after that my practice and designing has grown 10 fold overnight as the community is very welcoming, helpful, and inspiring. I recently taught at this recent convention too! I highly recommend as it will further aid in evolving your son's origami. He'll also meet new friends and in general fold next to others compared to origami's typica isolated activity.

Steve is totally right! Your 9 year old would love these kinda of conventions! I definitely recommend the New York convention this July or Pacific Coast convention in Fall 2025.

@@Su5hanth I haven't tried any of Joel's, but they are super cool! I have folded some very complex tessellations for competitions in the past. I think I even made a video review on my experience!

In any of your origami CP does red means mountain fold and blue valley folds? For example origami sword and shield, so if i just fold the CP for it and just do these valley/mountain fold should i get something like the end result?

Yes. For all of mine red is mountain and blue is valley

Ahh thats far away. But you can fold 9ths and then divide. You can find reference on google

Hi! Thanks for watching! I think it is very hard to have origami as your only job. Even for me it is a second job, but it is a good second job. To start to make money from origami you need to be able to provide value to others whether that is classes, high level work, or entertainment. Its good to learn business, entrepreneurship and sales skills for these things and you must make sure to do ethical practice and love origami because it is not easy. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in your journey.
