I'm excited for a new album too, just not sure how I feel about this specific song (even after like 6 listens) back half of the song is definitely the best
Yeah, this song is absolutely something. Maybe not something I'm going to listen to on replay or even often, but I do APPRECIATE them doing this stuff, from the artistic perspective. It's not some "we're doing random sh*t" move - it has their signature style written all over it, and it's coherent, it's a song, a musical piece, not just a number of random sounds. Always excited for their new stuff. It sounds weird at first, but slowly grows on you. Like I appreciate The Stage so much, for example -- and I didn't dig it at first at all. More so with A Little Piece of Heaven which I just thought to be a funny song, but now I honestly consider it a Bohemian Rhapsody of modern age, it's just a masterpiece.
So happy to hear many similar comments like yours around there, cuz we're not alone 😂 first time listeningto The Stage, I felt absolutely nothing, and that was 1 of the biggest mistakes in my entire life! Now with that lesson learnt, after giving enough 3 attempts, the chorus already kills me and stick in my head the whole day 😂 The instrumental is, needless to tell as always, a true masterpiece 🙏 Can't fckin wait til June 2nd deathbatnation 🤘
@@TrungNguyen-wy2gi True that! And considering the good stuff they put out, I always wonder, considering of how much of a musical genius The Rev was, what they couldn've done if he was still alive.
I felt the same way with The Stage. At first I was like: Damn… bummer. I’m not feeling it. But as a true fan, I still got the album on my playlist, I would just skip it, until some days I was distracted and wouldn’t skip it, and NOW I adore The Stage. Masterpiece. I’m loving this song.
The way is see it is its super different but still uniquely A7x like no matter how long youve gone since hearing them or if youve never heard the song before if this comes on you can tell who this is even if you dont know the name of the song
How you experienced this song says it all. Me and my fiancé are SO in love with this song! So many layers of pure awesomeness! Everyone that hates this song can’t even comprehend the amount of detail this song has in it. You have to truly listen to it and take everything in. Every sound this song has. I can’t even begin to explain just how AMAZING this song is. A pure eargasm 🤯
Everybody who hates this song can't comprehend its detail? I would love to know your basis for understanding that about strangers. It's just a shit song and it's overproduced.
@@QuiveringNow you're entitled to your opinion but this is a very complex release and really kind of devisive. It's still art even if you don't care for it
@@QuiveringNow explain why it’s “shit”, otherwise you’re just a troll who hates the song for not being heavy enough or whatever you gatekeepers want from every band that are decades old. Don’t come back to belittle or insult anyone for not agreeing with you, so properly explain what makes this song “shit” to you. I’m all ears because different perspectives intrigue me.
I think the song is ass, and I can comprehend the detail. That weird distorted guitar effect is actually obnoxious. It should have only been used during the intro, but they chose to ride it throughout the song. Remove that and you have the song fanboys pretend is great. signed, a schmuck who was excited for their new effort titled Waking the Fallen and perhaps the biggest The Stage fan on the planet
I honestly love the song. Matt's voice sounds so fucking healthy, Brooks is keeping Jimmy alive and you can hear it in every section. And Syn made quite possibly one of, if not THE best solo, I've ever heard in my life. Literally cried during the solo because that whole song just made me feel like a kid again. I've been listening to these guys since City of Evil and have known ever since that it's my favorite band in the world. So many nostalgic feelings happened in the span of 5 minutes and 56 seconds of beauty.
@@timdarnell7819 Gotta disagree. I found his singing to be probably the the lowest aspect of the band through the years. And yeah I'm aware the sound was changed because he was effectively 'screaming wrong' and had to take a break from that. But his tone, his vibrato... honestly, Shadows is learning to sing better slowly and it's making an impact in how he sounds now. It's different, but melodically it's a very good thing.
@@timdarnell7819 to me it just sounds like he learned how to sing (finally) i love old A7X songs but hearing something different like this feels really fresh
It's amazing. I almost expected something like this after The Stage. On another note, serious though, I think they want to be the Pink Floyd of metal and I'm here for it.
I thoroughly enjoy this song. It has that ethereal, cosmic vibe that The Stage had but with a little something extra for spice. That intro/main riff is so good and has a nice spooky feel to it. My favorite part of the song is at around the halfway point when all the instruments drop out, we hear M. Shadows’ sort of acapella/choiry “I see”, the echoey “nobody” and then the main riff kicks in again. It’s so good!
Yeah I've been saying the same thing, this is using their style from The Stage and expanding upon it to take it in a new direction. I love how experimental this is, I really like this song a lot.
I listen to all kinds of music and I've heard of Avenged Sevenfold but this song just really caught my attention. I want to know everything about them and listen to everything they have ever played. I feel like I'm listening to orchestra/heavy metal/progressive rock/eastern philosophy.. this song is addictive..
I love it listened to it all day yesterday, it sounds like it would fit the stage album, and vibration frequency that comes off those strums is amazing
The “segmented” thing you spoke of is exactly why they’re the best. Not many bands can do that, and NOBODY can do it like them. And the hate will come bc it’s not the “banger” single people expected, but what they don’t realize is, this album will be a story where every song leads into the next… this is just a piece of the puzzle that’s yet to come
The face you pull when the song stops and choir comes in is BRILLIANT😂😂😂😂 exactly same reaction felt like I was getting lifted upto heaven by angels 😂😂😂
We been waiting for you to react to this as soon as it came out. You love the weird shit my fiance n I love. Thank you for finally picking this masterpiece apart. It's definitely a risky song for avenged sevenfold to do. But we all know they don't give to shits hail to the kings that keep putting us on on our asses.
I do like it, but my initial guess is that it will fit better as part of a whole album stream. They've been saying that this entire album all the way down to the artwork has a very specific theme behind it (based on a specific author or artist's work if I remember correctly), so I'm expecting on of those albums that is meant to be listened to all the way through in a single sitting. Albums like that have a tendency to have the singles feel a little out of place on their own. Either way, I'm excited for the full album. They've had some "less good" albums, but I'd never say any of their albums were anywhere near bad.
Been an a7x fan since sounding the 7th trumpet. First time I listened I HATED this song cept the solo. Now I've listened to it about 5 timed and a couple reviews. Can confirm it ABSOLUTELY gets better with every listen and I now love it. Can't wait for the album.
This is like the Stage, I didn't care for it at first but it grew on me and now I find myself listening to The Stage often. Same for this song, I hated it at first but it's grown on me so much to the point where I listen to it on repeat several times a day because I can't get it out. It's a really great song!
I resonate hard with the meaning of this song. I went through a pretty awful break up about 2 years ago from a very manipulative person, I won't go into detail as it would take too long to explain. But the dissolution of my ego and my spirit broken left me seeking higher answers, a rabbit hole I wished I'd never gone down. Once you put on those goggles it's very hard to take them off
Bro you kept it so real!!! Everything that you experienced on your first listen is EXACTLY what I went through too!! I fell in love with the song after my second listen. I watched the video like 4 times when I discovered it! Huge fan right here bro!!
I've listened to this probably ten times since yesterday. It gets more ingenious every time I listen. You're right too, the melody gets stuck in my head. I've never really heard much A7X so I was intrigued to start listening to more of their catalog.
The first listen on the radio for me I was like what the heck was that like you said but man the more ive listed to it the more i understand and the radio really did injustice to this song. I could barely hear shadows on the radio version but youtube it blew me away with my drivers. I am excited for june 2 considering they are still one of my top favorite bands.
im not an emotional person AT ALL but i damn near started crying when i heard Syn’s solo. im 21 and ive spent damn near my entire life listening to this band and its been so long since hearing new music. favorite guitarist ever.
This song is an absolute banger. For them to go from the hardcore metal we love to this and nail it the way it’s been done is just amazing. Can’t wait for the new album
@@scarseven7855 Nate to you it could be crap but I’ve grown up with the band and I can see what they are going for and I THINK it’s a banger. You may not think so that’s totally fine.
I have been a fan of Avenged since 2011 when I started high school, and my friend took me into the library and had me listen to Nightmare and Buried Alive and i instantly fell in love with the band and they continue to be one of my favorite bands of all time. As soon as I heard this song, I fell in love and cannot get the song out of my head.
I love their new direction. I also LOVE that they wanted a full orchestra to do the brass strings etc. Those are real violins, cellos, brass and percussion. I love their prog stuff so far
I showed this song to my dad who has always disliked or not understood my music. He was quiet, shut his eyes, and let himself go on a journey. When it was over, he said 'Son, this band is something else...' That is a7x in this era...nothing else on earth sounds like this...haters just dont get it, how great and creative this is.
The droning guitar riff is the tick-tock of the clock of time. Tiiiick-tooooock, tiiiiiick-tooooock. It's subtle, but you can hear the clock ticking in the first 2 seconds
420 comments I kinda dont want to write one but man!! I need to tell you how much I love your reaction!!! you make me love music. I liked it the first time I heard it but now with you reacting to it made me love it! Im just headbanging along with you! Keep up the great videos man!
This song gets better each time I listen to it because I hear something new every time. So glad we finally have new music. I love the "solo from the gods"! 💯🔥
This is the kind of music that is more of an experience than a song. Like I can only see myself putting the video on after a little Hufflepuff and then going on a journey with the skelly boy, amazing stop motion and the trippy music. Gotta appreciate that solo too *chefs kiss*.
Been an A7x fan since city of evil. First metal concert I ever attended. Every album they put out is unique in their own way but each one of them fully delivers. I can’t say I love all the songs on the new album but god damn the good ones go hard af. This song is a masterpiece
Long time A7X fan, and The Stage took me a while to get used to, but I am digging this. The keep cementing themselves as one of the best of all time through experimentation.
They are continuing with their concept. It's out of this world and the meaning isn't easy to decipher. You can tell a lot of their ideals go into their music. Big brain stuff
They're my fav band ever and I definitely loved the song. I think I agree with everybody who's saying that u should listen to it twice or 3 times, this gets better with every damn listen!! The feeling their music always gave me is indescribable.... Super excited for the album for sure
I've been listening to them since 2002, and I love that they continue to develop. I agree with pretty much everything you said, and am super excited for the new album.
I have been a fan since i was in junior high they are the band that dragged me down the rabbit hole of rock/ heavy metal, and i love all their albums i was a little Concern after M.shadows hurt is voice box that the music would not be the same but i think its better now i love the way they are going and how they just matured as a band even with the passing of the rev.
Watching a load of reacts to this song made me realise that virtually no-one caught the fact that at the letter on the fireplace was a suicide note. Amazing video.
I like the melody, the riffs, I like that even though its a little different you can still tell it came from the same minds as buried alive and the stage
I have a lot of nostalgia when it comes to Avenged. I can't be the only one who would boot up B02/3 Origins just to see the awesome character introduction. It was mainly for the song though, since I didn't have WIFI back then so I would only listen to CD's that I got. I think it's great that they're experimenting more with what music they can make.
Definitely different from all of their past stuff. Always risk taking a new direction but all in all I like this song. Like you I like seeing artists experimenting and evolving, I will definitely give the rest of the album I listen when it comes out 🤘
Ever since Brooks Wackerman join the band for the stage A7X has been shifting to a prog metal sound and I love it! Brooks is a godly drummer and so is his whole family! His brother Chad Wackerman played the drums on some of my favorite Frank Zappa albums as well!
I agree. I actually enjoy it and appreciate bands evolving and trying new things. That one reason why Incubus is one of my favorite bands. Each album is different from the previous, but it's still them.
To me, the interpretation of the music video is this: A man is depressed in the world and body he lives in. So his soul travels around the earth and through history to find peace and joy. He realizes that the world is full of death and destruction and so meets the devil who then tells him he will take the man's soul to a eutopic paradise. The man agrees and lets the devil take him to this eutopic paradise in a different world. When the man arrives he realizes that this "perfect place" is actually an artificially created hell where no one else exists and everything is fake (because a perfect artificial eutopic world does not actually exists). And so the mans soul runs to the edge of this hell and jumps off into the space time continuum to then rejoin his body. The moral of the story is to be careful what you ask for because you just might get it. Be careful searching for paradise because what you think is paradise might actually be hell in the end.
I hated The Stage when it first came out, one day I popped it on again and was in the perfect mood for it. After that I just couldn't get enough of it. It's now right up at the top for A7X albums for me. After hearing this song multiple times I fucking LOVE IT.
The first time I heard it I didn’t know what to think especially since vocally it sounds different but I can definitely say it has insanely grown on me and I absolutely love it now and can’t wait for the album!
This song was unexpected, but the more I hear it the more I like it. Just hard to get over the change in Shadows' voice, been listening to a lot of City of Evil and Nightmare recently so that's the voice in my head.
I honestly, love this song. I didn't like it too much at first because the start of his singing sounded so mixed, from his older voice. but when you get more into the song his voice sounds so good, so healthy. And like I don't know why people hated on this song as much as it did, its different just like every other avenged sevenfold album and it sounds good his voice sounds like matt and like it grew on me faster than most songs
I’m so excited and happy that this song is so fucking good. The first stream and listen during the reveal was definitely a big wtf moment for me. I liked it after 3 listens. After 6 listens I thought it was very good. A dozen plus and I think it’s brilliant stuff. With decent headphones and on Spotify or in the car it is pretty much an out of body experience sonically for me. There is so much to digest and take in and I appreciated the challenge from them. One of the most emotional solos with those beautiful strings accompanying Syn and Brooks’ drumming. It gets buried some but Shadows sounds really good too and Johnny gets some time to shine in the mix as well. Truly one of the great bands for how much they can evolve and change over time yet still produce such high quality music. Makes it so much fun to be a fan.
Should also check out the song "Death" from the album this song is in. Also, fun fact: those flame effects for the stop motion models is done with painted cotton balls that have lights in them. Every band has the same problem with fans. They'll ever bitch that they never change and are boring, or bitch that they "sold out" and no longer sound the way they used to.
Hey, Alex! I really love your reactions, I've only discovered your channel a couple of months ago but I've already watched a lot of you and I really love it. I don't know. I don't necessarily believe that it's the first time you're hearing a song every time you say it, but your reactions are gold, especially when you take your time to google and dive into lyrics. And your overall energy. That being said, I have a, probably, unique request - how about you react to some of Silent Hill (game series) OSTs by Akira Yamaoka? And don't judge it only being soundtracks for games, there are a lot of very beautiful songs. Akira Yamaoka does concerts all around the world, I think he's a genius. (if you're into games, there is a big chance that you'll want to play Silent Hill after listening to these songs). p.s. Sorry for my English. I understand it perfectly well, but when it comes to expressing myself...not perfect.
Although this song may not meet all of our expectations we all have to remember this is just one song out of the upcoming album so that means their other songs could be even better and having listened to A7X since I was 4 and now 15 it probably will be a fantastic album just like the others
Dude anytime i hear someone say they can't find a single A7X song they like i can ALWAYS find a song they haven't heard and instantly get that person to admit "yo man i won't lie this shits fire, whoever their guitar player is man is killin' it"
I think this is setting up to creating a concept album, which is something that they've been trying to do for a while now. God I have missed their sound so much, I'm kind of pumped. When they released "The Stage" album, I didn't vibe with the sound of it for some time, but it grew on me. I am sure that their new album will be the same. the more experimental they get, the more time it takes to fully digest it, but the pay off is always epic!
